- The Value of this Mattress is incredible!
For around 3 years now, Susie and I have been testing out an air mattress from a company called Wenzel. To be honest, I am not familiar with this company but after looking it up, it has a very interesting history.
Anyways, the air mattress in question is the 4” NeverFlat and was given this pad by a viewer and we liked it so much that we purchased another one.

Wenzel Mattress Review :
Materials : Very thick polyester laminate material.
Dimensions Setup : 74.5” x 27.5” x 4”
Dimensions Packed : 6” x 12”
Weight capacity : 500lbs
Weight : 3.5lbs
Cost : $25 on Amazon at the time of filming, retail looks to be $40
Includes : Mattress, Repair kit and storage bag
Review Pros :
- Very comfortable mattress as far as the cushion goes. The materials is comfortable enough to lay on, direct skin to fabric contact but having a sheet or blanket over the top makes it much more comfortable. You can easily lay on this any way that you like and you won’t have issues with touching the ground.
- Impressive weight capacity rating.
- No leaks. Stays inflated throughout the night
- Very durable - we’ve taken these pads all over the country, thrown them in the truck and in the van and never had any issues.
- The price on these mattresses are very impressive - great value.
- Good size pad - that does make it bulky
- The air-stop valve works well but does take a moderate amount of inflation for it to securely close.
Review Cons :
- This is a large mattress and requires a lot of air to inflate. Inflating via breath is possible but it is going to take you a long time. With that being the case, some sort of pump is going to be highly recommended.
- The inflation and deflation port is of an odd shape and doesn’t securely fit any pump that I have tried. It doesn’t prevent the pad from being inflated but it does make this process more of a chore than it really needs to be. I use my hand to make a seal and that works well enough.
The air-stop valve often closes when you are working on releasing the air from the mattress and are rolling it up. This means that you will often have to stop what you are doing to open it once again.
- This pad offers virtually no R-Value and there is nothing to stop cold from coming through. In other words, this is not the best for cold conditions but if you plan to use it in such conditions, putting a thin pad to cut the cold from coming through will be of a big benefit.

I’m 76 and decided to start camping again a few years after my husband died. I researched tents ( can’t afford an rv) and got a two room Wenzel tent. They said it takes at least two people to set it up but I can do it by myself. During rain and some wind, it has been great. There has never been one drop of water come in in the two years I’ve used it. Love Wenzel.
Wenzel been around forever... I recall them when I was a teenager in the Boy Scouts getting into camping - and I'm 70 now.
Wenzel is a decent company. They are kind of on par with Coleman and companies of that nature. Mostly relatively budget friendly car camping equipment. I got a Wenzel tent for my 1th birthday (now 38). It was great for camping as a kid and is still around today.
I respect your opinion more than anyone when it comes to gear. In fact if I am interested in something I look to see if you have reviewed it first. It’s simple too, if you say it’s good I buy it, if not I don’t. It’s always worked for me. Thanks for the advice and great content. You have a great life and wonderful family. You’re a good man.
I've known Wenzel for ages. They make sleeping bags and tents. The quality is good, worth purchasing and doing a thorough test.
i've had my Wenzel camp quilt for 3 years now. it was like 25 or 30 bucks, super comfy, warm, excellent to throw on the ground and not even worry about it, and wrap around you partially or fully if you're cold. Simple to clean. really nice bag. Also doubles as a great sleeping bag liner, just slightly slippery against polys, but they bring back the classic feeling of owning a piece of gear you want to keep and know will last a long time, which is rare these days. if i could only grab a few key items in a hurry, my Wenzel is mandatory lol starting to sound like a paid review sorry but i love it 😆
Its crazy how much i trust you when it comes to product reviews. 👍🏻
Luke and Susie thank you for straight forward honest reviews. Thank you for your hard work.
Thanks for the heads up on this! Just snagged one to put in my van before I build out the bed! $25 seems like an insane value.
The Wentzel company is fantastic! I had one of those instant "soccer field" 10'x10' tents they make. One of the frame pieces broke at a rivet. They replaced the whole tent, no questions asked, after I had had it for several years.
That right there says something about a company and customer service
Thank you so much for this fantastic review. Your comments & insights are so helpful.
Wenzel has been around forever, sadly this pad has been discontinued. Amazon is out of stock, but may get more, who knows. Wenzel has them at retail pricing, about $40 as Luke mentioned. Steep & Cheep has them for $30 , I just ordered 2! Add $7.95 shipping as of 2-28-23
Thanks for the review. Looks like a awesome pad to keep in my overland vehicle.
Wow. Great to see a 4 inch pad that is comfortable and durable.
I am excited to learn of the price and quality.
Thank you again
Awesome as always Luke.
Thanks for sharing.
GOD BLESS Y'ALL
Great review as always.
We’ve had our wenzel 4 man tent for 18 years and still going strong
Good to see another positive review from you.
Brilliant review Luke, I can watch reviews about things I don't even need 😎
Appreciate your honesty
Great info Luke, Thanks!
I have been looking for a truck bed air mattress for my Kodiak Canvas truck tent. Thanks Luke. You have been more help than you know.
I've had that exact same mattress for over 2 years. Tried countless others this thing is awesome. My storage bag is great though. Thanks
I own a Wenzel "Summer Breeze" cabin tent that was given to me after it had been used for a number of years. We have used it in all kinds of weather and it has been awesome.
Hi Luke hope all is well. I have one and love it been using it for about 2 years now, it's held up very good and it is very comfortable, Thanks for sharing
As a kid I camped with my family for years in a Wenzel canvas tent. I ended up giving that tent to a friend a few years ago and it was still in good shape at about 35 years old! No recent company experience but the old stuff was pretty good.
Luke Its Worth 25,, And Yes Very Heavy Top Coat To Prevent Holes. Repair Kit Is For Animal Damage Or Knife Damage. Love This Amazing Wenzell Created Great ❤❤❤
I wish I had known this before I spent over $40 for a sleeping pad! This looks great! Thanks for great review!
I've had one of these Wenzel mattresses for almost a year and it's been comfortable each time I've decided to bring it along
Luke that is cheap price for that Air Mattress thank for the review I can't wait for another video you come out with
Perfect, been looking for an outdoor air mattress
Good review. Thanks.
Good review. Thanks Luke. $25 sounds like a steal.
I have used their tents and air mattresses while I was a scoutmaster for 11 years, put them to the test and they never failed us. Well worth the money.
For 25$ can't really beat it . Especially if you have used it for three years. And does come with a repair kit . I can't remember if you mentioned needing to repair a leak . This air mattress owes you nothing .
Thank you
Luke
I have a Wenzel dome tent we bought in the early 80s. It was inexpensive, like $40. 3 person size. I still have it. I've always loved using it for car camping. Have not used it in a while. a couple of the seams have stretched in 40 years. Whenever I used it I sealed the seams and sprayed down the lower body and fly with water repellent.
I’ve learned to watch your videos before purchasing any items for instance I bought the Teton vista two person quick tent now I’m looking for that perfect mattress. This might be the one. Thank you for your videos. Keep up the good work.
Not a bad price for it. They make good tents, too. We had a Wenzel 3 room tent years ago. never had an issue until we left the poles at the camp and didn't realize it until a couple weeks later...LOL Way back in the day, their canvas tents were top notch! Great products.
I have one of their tents front 20 years ago . They are great products.
Hi Luke it looks very very good for the price , it reminds me of the 70s and 80s for summer time in the pool
Well worth the price! I will definitely get one for car camping.
Been working out ? Lookin good Luke. We're still freezing here in Montana. Thanks for this assessment !
Discontinued by manufacturer…thanks for the review anyway. We have used Wenzel canopies before and have been happy
One of my favorite tents is a wenzel cabin tent with the screen porch. Got one second hand that lasted another 5 years. They still make the same tent.
As of 3/22/23, it is longer available on Amazon and another reseller shows this mattress as discontinued
Wentzel makes great products. Never been disappointed with my purchases from them. Too bad I cant get 1 of these air matts. Out of stock/discontinued most places I checked.
Good video, thanks a lot!
Hey luke..Looks like a good travel mattress ..and 3 years positive review on the durability..I do wish it had some..R Value.
Luke is looking so buff and powerful lately.
Luke, for someone as avid about camping as you, I am surprised you never knew about Wenzel, I had a Wenzel canvas frame tent forty odd years ago, it never leaked in bad storms, I think I paid about $60.00 for it back then, kept it till I bought a popup trailer. great tent slept four with plenty room for gear.
Made in America too. Out of stock on their website and listed at 39.95 still looks like a good value. Going to have to try it.
Everywhere it is listed as "Out of Stock" or "Discontinued"...my belief is it is no longer available...unfortunately.
Wentzel was a name i remembered from my childhood camping trips but I didn't think they were even in business anymore.
I know back in the 70's and 80's they had good budget friendly gear. Had a tent that I used for years. Also have a sleeping bag that I got when I was 12 (58 now) that I still use when car camping. My experience with their gear is it not very backpacking oriented.
Unfortunately, this item is no longer on the Wenzel site and I was unable to find it through other vendors.....bummer dude!
Even Therma Rest gives a repair kit. I Have a few of the Camp XL's that are close to 20 years old. Still working great. But for 200 bucks, now they are 250 bucks ouch. Thanks for great info, cheers.
This looks a great air mattress and the price sounds good. 👍
I have a Wenzel cast iron Dutch oven. It has a coal lid and a flat bottom with a coal rack for underneath... really good
That is a great product at a great price!
Had a Wenzel wall tent, canvas and durable, used over twenty-five years or car camping . Sod it at yard sale forwhatI paid for it. Wheel products are worth the money.
I bought that because your video... I will try that
3 Years-that's some longterm testing. We used Wenzel products all the time camping in 80s.
The price is right! (But they’re sold out - I think there was a rush after your review!) 😋👍
It's really nice. I have a self inflating mattress that is only 1.5 inches thick, but it insulates and keeps me off the ground and hasn't gone flat as long as I've had it. I think it was made by Stansport. That looks like one of the only ones that wouldn't end up going flat for that type. Otherwise they just aren't worth having in my book. Maybe a light one for backpacking, but I carry one of those roll up deals that weighs less that a pound. Uncomfortable but never goes flat.
Grabbed one. Seems like a steal.
Good review. I've owned one for some years now. Great value for the category. I don't care for the horizontal tubes b/c I tend to roll off once in a while. Longitudinal tubes or box baffles are IMO better. The Sierra Designs ones have box baffles and thus are more stable. But ....those are 6" and heavier. Also the SD ones were only in a 56" wide at the time I bought mine which is OK in a big tent but too wide for my camper shell the way I have it set up. The Wenzel corp. has been in camping gear for like decades. BITD, Wenzel, Camp Trails and Coleman were mainstays with White Stag as a step up. Much of Coleman seems to be sold just on the name these days but Wenzel seems to have resisted the 'cheapening' trend at least to some degree. Thanks for the info.
1:25 I just love listening to the outdoor gear review that is my favorite UA-cam channel
Looks very comfortable
Good job ! Finally , something that regular people can actually afford to buy , thought you had gone Gucci for awhile there .
I think you should appreciate your viewers by giving away all the good items you test (none of the bad one's, please). I'll take one of each:)
Size, weight, no insulation and inflation issues would probably prevent any camping use, except at mentioned, in a truck. I would consider it for a guest bed. Sadly Amazon says, "Currently unavailable.
We don't know when or if this item will be back in stock." Enjoyed the review.
The tab on the valve is for grabbing and pulling the flap part way through the hole to deflate it.
I bought my first Wenzel tent back in 1980.
Could you review the Wendel dome tents? The 2 person dome tent “Torrey” looks interesting, but I’m not sure how good the waterproofness would be. Cool stuff Luke!
That pad now is currently unavailable on Amazon after you posted this video. Good thing I bought one right after I saw this review.
We have a set of Wenzel cast iron pots and pans. We absolutely love them and they are in my opinion, better than lodge cast iron pots and pans.
Had a canvas covered air mattress which never had a leak. Unknown brand. Only had the small, bicycle tire type fill valve which screwed close. It was olive green
I've heard of the brand before and I think I used some of their camping gear before. With the mattress, it really does feel like a steal compared to the other more pricey mattresses that end up too small or/and damaged over usage. For what it offers I can say it is well worth it unless you want to go ultralight then I would suggest something else or no mattress at all.
I've got one of their 30-40 degree sleeping bags and have used it in 18 -20 degrees and stayed warm almost to warm all night. They make good products at reasonable prices. Great video. Have a great day sir, thanks again informative as well.
Would love to see a review of a few of their tents.
What would you recommend for the coldest temperature this would be good for. Lows in the 50s , 40s ? .Thank you for your reviews , I do trust your opinion and base my purchases on your input . Thx .
I' that wenzel camping gear was purchased in the late 1960"s early 70"s that is still my main go to hear tents tarp sleeping bags lanterns all have held up and never failed me I prefer wenzel gear over all others I have a lot of faith in the Brandon quality and price. Sorry u are just coming aboard the wenzel gear brand but trust me and believe me it is definitely a brand you will come to love as will Susie. Buy everything you can get ahold of made by this brand. U can thank me later LUKE
At 0:15 you said you had one and so did Suzy, you had me at that point, yep. 15 seconds
I have this mattress for motocamping. Works great! I use a DIY airbag made from a trash compactor bag too inflate it.
I didnt know Wenzel was still in buisness,I have had one of their packs for about 20 years and it also was a great deal.
Greetings thanks for sharing stay blessed
I have had to cut two camping trips short now because I am a side sleeper and also have some sciatic nerve issues, so I need a bunch of cushion. The pad I was using was too narrow and when I would sleep on my side my arm would just lay on the cold floor of my tent. I woke up in pain and had to leave. I just ordered this (it is difficult to find) and I am hoping It works out for me.
So these are discontinued as of fall 2020 per an e-mail response from wenzel while i was trying to get one.
Hey Luke! I was thinking the music in your intro would benefit a lineal sound decline/transition towards the end. Love ur vids
I wish they had a smaller option for easier packing and inflation. I still might try it for that price though!
You should review some of their tents!
They are a good brand and I'm honestly surprised you did not know about them before you received the mat.
I've used Wenzel products and they usually work well. I have a question about the mattress. Would this work on top of a cot? I usually car camp and use a cot but without padding it isn't very comfortable.
I can't find the Wenzel air mattress anywhere? They don't have it on they're website either? Any ideas or links I might be able to try? Thanks Luke!
What inflatable matress do you recommend for backpacking of a budget?
Use a mini vacuum to deflate the mattress. Keep up the great work! 👊🏽
Utah's San Rafael Swell is calling you!
Just ordered one, thanks!
Ordered from where!?
@@ljohns36 got it from the Amazon link in the description. Must have got it fast enough, looks like he sold them out.
Hey buddy hope your family is doing good.I think it is worth the money. When you put blankets over the mattress does it help with the cold coming through?
Seems like a good option. I'd love to get a Big Agnes or the like but seems like robbery how much they want to charge. $200+ for a thick material balloon is a bit crazy.
We’re suffering from Susie lag out here , time for a you & Susie video
Too bad I didn't see this video yesterday. Amazon sold out of them. Hopefully, they will get back on stock.
I had a Wenzel tent back in the late 60's for 5 books of Blue Chip Stamps. Great tent!
Used it until I got my Eureka Timberline in the late 70's.
I have one of these mattresses and I love it! I’m a side sleeper and can verify everything Luke said as factual!
