Love your videos. They helped me learn the lean-drop on my fj40 carb and center link rebuild for example. I’m looking at a 100 (if a good deal comes by)
I had a nice mice nest after putting a new air filter. They entered through the inlet side. They peed so much the urine corroded the throttle plate needing a replacement. Since then screened on a wire screen.
Sounds like a lot of work needs to be done just from the visual inspection - replacing rusted parts , spline joint , and wheel bearing . Would you offer the customer a "deep-dive" engine inspection by checking the plugs condition, compression test , cylinder inspection with a borescope ? Would using pH test strips on brake (with moisture test ) and coolant fluids help what future jobs may be needed ?
We do offer deeper pinpoint inspections. But we usually only use them if we're looking for something specific. Usually you can pick up on engine issues with codes and the test drive.
For checking if codes have been cleared, you can use a scan tool and check to see if the monitors have run. They won't have run if the codes were just cleared. Or sometimes there will be a data PID that says something like mileage since codes cleared. For the odometer I think the only way you'd know is looking for discrepancies in the Carfax report. If the odometer says 100k but it's had an oil change at 250k there's a pretty good chance the odometer was tampered with.
Our LCs and LXs are getting a couple decades old. I'm hearing that some parts for these SUVs are getting harder to source. What's your thinking about how many years these vehicles will be reasonably repairable?
We're starting to see things go unavailable. Mostly on 94 and older. The list of stuff for 95 and newer that we can't get isn't too bad yet. Toyota is doing a much better job than the American companies. There's stuff that's critical to running that's discontinued in under 10 years.
This truck didn't have anything noteworthy to mention. I'd avoid any truck with AHC. It's a failure prone garbage system. Just about every truck we see the lines have all rotted out. This truck was unusually clean for our area.
@ that’s a bit harsh. I understand the rust belt (I’d avoid any vehicle regardless of make/model from rust belt) but that is saying you’d avoid every Lexus lx470….
I really enjoy your videos. Learn a lot about our 100's.
Thank you.
Thanks!
Thanks!!

Love the video!! Great info!

Wow!!! I've seen some nasty mouse house, never enough to corrode the throttle plate. That's crazy!!

like the video... so would have been the verdict on this one?
This one was a keeper. It had normal wear and tear but was much cleaner than most we see.
@@OTRAMM awesome. keep up the great work!
I am hearing alot of car lots are turning back odometer or clearing codes. Any way of checking that? Great video.👍

No mention of AHC system?

@M4ttj0nes I would indeed avoid every LX470.
@@OTRAMM fair enough - respect your transparency
@@M4ttj0nes we just see so many issues with them in our climate that it's hard to justify the added cost of repairs over a non AHC truck.
