We realized this morning it's officially been 2 years since we parked the RV in Nova Scotia. TWO YEARS...can you even believe that? The land has changed so much in that time but at a risk of sounding like a complete cheeseball, I think the biggest change has actually come from within. We couldn't have pictured things turning out the way they did (I'm sure we'll be saying the same thing in two years from now) but it's a really rewarding feeling to look back and to be so proud of everything we've accomplished...cheers to growth and to the next two years of adventures! 🍾
So excited for you guys. It's easy to see a beautiful project and think it happened 'overnight', but that's rarely the case. Your progress is amazing and look forward to seeing what you create next! Have a great week!
So proud of you guys ❤️ It's been a pleasure watching your journey and seeing all your progress and all the hard work it took And I can't wait to see what's to come next Lots of love to y'all ❤️
I found your channel about 6 months ago, I immediately fell in love with your journey and binge watched every video you put out. Now I wait anxiously to see what you’ve been up to every week! Just LOVE your story, your love and everything you have accomplished 💕 SO happy for you!! And be a cheese ball whenever you feel like it. I love the REAL emotion you share, you don’t have to but you do and I for one appreciate everything you choose to share. RAW, REAL LIFE!! Can’t say it enough JUST LOVE YOU TWO!! 💗
My mom was able to reduce the amount of creosote accumulation by attaching a wood stove thermometer on the flue. The thermometer let her know if she was burning her stove hot enough to burn off the creosote. Also, to help control the mosquito/black fly population she added bird and bat houses throughout her property.
I agree. I used to own a wood burning stove (Ben Franklin) for 15 years and never needed it clean by making sure it got hot enough when used to burn out the creosote. Never had a stack fire which can happen if the creosote gets too bad.
Hey guys, try using Rutland Toss-In Creosote Removers EVERY week! it helps so you do not have to disassemble the chimney more than twice a year! Plus, stack the wood so there is air filtration alleys between rows! Too close stacking maintains moisture. I painted the roof of my wood shed black, it heats up in the fall to promote drying! Good luck, be safe!
not knowing what is actually being burned but haven't I also heard that any pine wood creates even more creosote than hard woods .........also familiar with the toss-in creosote remover
I would suggest using fire starters instead of newspapers for starting the fire. We use those white baggie things for our wood burner on recommendation from the guy who installed it and our chimney sweeper. We only use birch and fire starter bags. This winter we have had the fire going all day, every day. No problem with the chimney, as far as I know... I think I will ask the sweeper to come for a check soon though 😉
And the award for the best look of today is Tyler when Todd says, “oh this will be easy “. Have really enjoyed your journey these past two years and appreciate your taking us along!

The alarm going off in the early hours is so annoying but I love looking at the silver lining of not having woken up at all if you didn’t have it. I will remind my husband of that the next time ours goes off. ❤️
Just a little note to say that dont burn anything else but wood in your stove. Use proper firestarter. Newspaper even if burning ever so little is bad for stoves. Newspaper and the "ink" contains oil, believe it or not, and that adds quickly to the creosote. Dont burn paper milk cans and stuff either. Just wood, and your woodstove will love you for it. Glad you had that alarm guys!
Congratulations on 2 years off grid. You’ve faced many challenges and risen to meet them all. Definitely put the hot tub in before you build the cabin so after a hard day of building you can relax your sore muscles. You deserve it❤️✨
For your gazebo, next winter put clear shower curtains around your balcony to enjoy it longer. That is what I did with my balcony in the last 2 winters. It’s fantastic. Put a tine piece of wood on the bottom of the curtain so it doesn’t fly in the wind and anchor to floor.
I never realized that you could get that much creosote from wet wood - the normal drying out period is a year. I am so glad that you were woken up by the CO2 monitor. Spring is coming - which means more projects - thank you so much - I have learned so much from you! Love you guys! :)
Isn’t it fascinating how every predestined project has correction work involved!?! It always drives Anna and me crazy. Have a great week guys. Keep those dreams alive.
It’s been two years?!? Gosh, I’ve been following you when you were traveling around and then had to go back to NS due to the pandemic. You’ve both accomplished so so much in these two years! You should be very proud of all that you’ve done so far. I know you still have years of dreams to make the land everything you want it to be. You are both an inspiration and a joy to watch. Thank you for taking us along. Much love and awe from a senior in Woonsocket, RI. 🥰. 😲
So impressive the space that the two of you have made! I am always so happy to see the gays make a great life for themselves outside of a metropolitan area. You two are an inspiration to little gay like me! Thank you for inspiring us all.
So happy for you guys, you've accomplished so much in two years. I have been with you all the way. Sending lots of love from an old woman from Oklahoma.
Elaine Ferry has a good suggestion. Also don't burn soft woods. Soft woods are pine, black cottonwood, (red, white and northern white) cedar, balsam, balsa, fir, and pine. Pine contains more resins even when dry that will create creosote. Your best bet is hardwoods like cherry, walnut, oak, hickory, maple. The nice thing about hardwoods not only will they not create as much creosote but they will burn longer than softwood and will be just as hot as a softwood. Problem with softwoods is they not only create creosote fast but also even though they burn hot but they burn fast. Much faster than a hardwood.
I have worked in the Nova Scotia forestry industry in various ways most of my life, and still heat with wood.” Seasoned” fire wood is just wood that has been cut usually the fall before. Its sap is dried out but it is in no way considered dry. It is NOT stored inside out of the weather to dry. That is your responsibility. Most obtain their wood in early spring, and as it dries in the summer, bit by bit they store it for the winter. You may want to consider storing a few days or a weeks worth of wood inside the dome to further dry it. Regarding your clogged flue, during peak heating season, you should check it weekly and clean it every two weeks, or as necessary. A month is too long. The longer the flue, the more the gases cool and condense and the more soot collects in the pipe.
Cracked up "put a bell on!" I have told my husband 1,000 times that I'm going to put a bell on him! He is 6'6 and weighs 300lbs. and is Completely silent while moving!!
Your gazebo looks great, and so does the entire dome area! It's warming up here too - can't wait to spend time outdoors again. It was hard to tell on the video but when I added screens to a similar one, there were gaps at the top of the "walls" under the roof - I added some screen there too (just a tip in case yours is the same). Thanks for another great vid - have a fun week guys!
Had the same thought and came to the comments to make sure someone brought it up! It sure looked like daylight was coming in between the tops of the walls and the roof.
I just love your Sunday updates. They always seem so short- but that’s just me. They could be 2 hours long and I’d find myself saying: “That was WAY too short!” The gazebo looks fantasssstic!!😍
You two are such a joy and an inspiration. I feel blessed that you have chosen to share your life with me and everyone else who watches your Vlog. Thank you so much. Your videos are the highlight of my Sundays. ❤️🥰
Wear a BELL! That took me by surprise, so much so I chocked on my bagel. After I recovered I rewatched that part again.. I have totally fallen’ in love with your family. Thank you for being so truthful and transparent in your episodes. I can’t wait for Sunday’s!
The "m" word 🤯🤯🤯🤣 you kill me. Great vlog, with an excellent tip to check firewood before accepting for purchase. I too have been sold unseasoned wood which caused not only creosote build up in my chimney but also smoked us out of the house everytime. Lesson learned !! The ice cold bucket of water outside of the sauna, pure genius! See you next Sunday and 💜💜💜
I'm glad the bug netting project came together easy for you two 👍 I hope your leaks stopped leaking too. Wishing you both all the best 💕Thanks for giving us a peak into your piece of paradise.
Its preety rough here in Roumania guys. Refugees keep comming and somethimes we can hear the bombs over the border. Luckly, we are in NATO but it gives me goosebumps just thinking what happen just few hundred kilometres from where I live.
I just watched the vlog from March 14, 2021 (when you switched out the old RV and installed Connie as your new home) - it's amazing what you two have accomplished, just in the past year: the dome, installing the water lines, building the solar field, the outdoor living room, the outdoor shower, the well (and fixing the filtration system that you cleverly designed and assembled) - the list just goes on & on; plus dealing with Charlie and his illness. Didn't see Lily on the bed when you two woke up in the RV. It's wonderful to start out the week, watching what you have been up to in the past week (and can only imagine what isn't in the vlogs!) Take care and, yes, build the hot tub first before tackling the cabin build. If I knew your address, I'd send you plans for a combo house/ indoor swimming pool - yes, with a giant slide - that I have floating around in my head. Love to you & your amazing family.
I'm so glad you both woke up, and fixed the issue..your both Mr fix anything, I love you guys. I'm in Australia and you guys are my Monday morning treat. 💕🥰
Hi guys! If you get a sprayer attachment for your yard hose and spray liquid dish soap around your buildings, it will inhibit the eggs from hatching and reduce your mosquito population.
I've really enjoyed watching your journey over the past 2 years, you guys are so clearly in love it warms my heart... Myself and my partner live on a boat in Southampton England. We are on marina which is on the river itchen. Its within the city so nowhere near as beautiful as your spot in Canada but we love it here. We have a log burner like you so the winters can feel hard at times but the summers more than make up for them. Your video's are so beautiful to watch because you both make such a good team with the support and love you show each other. Building a new life together is what we've done here too, any time you decide to come to England you must come and pay us a visit guys we'll take you over to the isle of wight for a beer and some fish and chips at the Folly in. Xx❤❤xx
The vision of your land coming to fruition is an amazing feeling I'm sure. We are almost done with our bus build and listing our house jn the next week or so.
Ash is in soap, and soot used to be used as tooth cleaner for centuries. Have you read Ruth Goldman’s The Domestic Revolution? She’s a domestic historian who has lived experience of cleaning and cooking, etc, as earlier ages did it when EVERYONE lived off grid. Will you fell, log and season your own fuel? I believe there’s trees local to your place. Love the sale jacket. I do love a bargain!
Listen, eating out after grocery shopping has become a habit for me too. In my mind, the groceries need to settle and get comfortable and get to know eachother.
You both have achieved so much and you should be so proud!!! Always get excited on Sundays just to see what you have been up to. Love you both and have a great week. ❤️🤗
Hello my friends plant some lavender and mint I to live in the woods amazing and y'all will enjoy the sweet smells of nature. May God bless you and your family I pray for peace and understanding of all humanity love from Tennessee 🇺🇸❤🇺🇸
Happy Landiversary! 🍾🥂 So happy for you guys and AMAZED at all your progress in the past couple years! Absolutely love you two, and look forward to seeing what you're up to every week. Love you both! Have a great week and we'll see you Sunday!!! 💛💛💛💛💛
have you tried burning potato peelings? i have a wood fire place and i know it def helps clean the chimney. i also use a cleaning burn log. Also to help with the bugs maybe build a bat house :)
Does your wood-stove have a direct outside air intake? That would prevent negative pressure inside the dome. If you do NOT have a direct connection to outside air for combustion THIS could be cause of the CO problem. Also, keeping wood inside the dome for a few days will further reduce its moisture content.
When they were cleaning it, it appears to be a direct vent (exhausts through center tube, fresh air through outer tube). I just installed a DV gas fireplace with the same type, a bit larger though.
Yes. This!!! Fresh air. Fresh Air. Fresh air. Basically the volume of air going up and out of the chimney MUST be replaced by fresh air coming from OUTSIDE. This is ESPECIALLY important in a tightly sealed structure. Fire consumes oxygen (air). A sign of not having enough INCOMING fresh air is the condensation problems that you’ve been having…a sure fire sign of a tight structure without adequate fresh air exchange. The winter air is so dry, if you had adequate fresh air flowing into the dome, into the firebox and up the chimney, you wouldn’t have the condensation problem. So again. Fresh air. Continually supplied to the inside of the dome. This is the solution. (Just like the holes in a shoebox or jar lid like when you were kids and caught lightning bugs, crickets, etc). So rig a vent from the outside into the dome, keep the front door open etc etc, anything to get FRESH air flowing into the dome!!! (Ex science teacher here. Plus park ranger. Plus forestry major, garden center manager oh and 22 year airline pilot. 🙃)
@@chrisantoniscountryman-pur9954 I came here to say you need fresh air (you’ve already said it so much better) and may also need to burn your fire hotter, which will need even more fresh air. It can feel counterproductive to open a window or vent the room when it’s really cold outside, but makes a huge difference to the fires performance, and air quality in the room. I love fires 🔥
OMG! Lol! Todd, I say the same thing to my partner! She's so quiet and I am always in motion. I always tell her that she's gotta watch out for my flailing arms! I'm so glad I'm not the only one out there!
Great to see you both but all the work you do is amazing and you keep adding on more it’s cool to watch I love my two men in the woods the time goes so fast ever week.
Great to see you both! 😊 You make my Sunday!🌈🤩 Love the bug netting bc I hate bugs too and they are everywhere😵💫 Glad you alarm worked😳 Stay safe, be well and see ya next time👋👋
Hey guys! Love your videos! Making your own firestarters is so easy and works way better than paper. All you need is cardboard egg cartons, dryer lint, and paraffin wax. Fill each egg hole with dryer lint and pour some wax on it! Voila! Ready to use! Tear off egg hole, cover with wood in fireplace, light and walk away! Burns roughly 5 minutes. Have a great week guys!!
Gentlemen: After your close call with the clogged flue of your wood stove it occurred to me that you might want to turn off the exhaust fan at least at night. Your issue could be in part that your woodstove is "starved" for air. Another solution would be to install a direct air duct to the firebox. Stoves that get oxygen from the living space are also less efficient. Hope this helps keep you safe and comfy. Best regards, Rich NYS
This was fun! I’m glad you sorted out the problems and the gazebo looks great. Canadian winters are worth it for when the spring comes - although that can be short-lived and suddenly it gets hot. And it is certainly amazing to hear birds again.
Kay Cee belowmentioned a thermometer, also for next winter try to find some very dry, softer wood that you can use during the daytime. Build a real "blazer" a couple of time a week. Another things that would help is putting a small vent under your stove through your subfloor, which will allow you to draw in some fresh air from the outside and immediately heat it. Its seems odd that the dome is as airtight as a CO2 alarm would indicate. Maybe test with a second CO2 alarm.....
Whew! That was a close one. I am so glad you figured out the cause of the carbon monoxide. Take care. I’m looking forward to next week and more signs of Spring.
I think part of the trouble with the stove is that it is really too big for that narrow a chimney. Seems to be insufficient draft based on the smoke that comes out when the door is opened. Also metal chimneys that extend up very far outside tend to be cooled in cold weather and allow the smoke to condense and collect creosote. So I think the best long term solution is a bigger chimney. Be safe..I would be nervous relying on just one alarm.
I would agree about your stack Especially since that’s your only source of heat I’m really surprised that it didn’t come with a 6 inch galvanized pipe or painted with heat resistant paint
Melt the snow and use that for bathing and cleaning and you can filter it then boil to use it for drinking. Me and my boyfriend did that when we lived in a small log cabin with out running water or electricity . WE lived like that for 5 years
I was afraid you weren't going to post anything this Sunday, but I'm glad you did. Everything is turning out nicely. You 2 should be very proud at all yr accomplishments !!❤️
My husband has has been sneaking up and scaring the crap out of me for 39 years. I literally laughed out loud when you jumped and screamed. I can relate. He claims it’s not on purpose but I’m not buying it because he seems to get too much of a kick out of my reaction.
Do you guys have a wood burner thermometer? If you burn at the wrong temperature then you'll be creating creosote. There is a sweet spot between too low (creosote) and too high.
A chimney thermometer is very useful. A very tight wood stove throttled way down so it burns all night can burn so cool (especially in a non insulated chimney) that creosote will form in massive quantities no matter how dry the firewood…heated my house with wood for 10 years!
I always grab something to eat on the way home from the Grocery Store lol I thought I was the only one 😄🌞😎🏖🐊 It's a beautiful day here in Atlantic Beach Florida ya'll 🐊🏖😎🌞
I started watching these guys like 2 months ago - and binge watched everything! lol I absolutely fell in love with them... when I first started watching - I thought they had to be newlyweds - like still in their honeymoon period... then one of the q and a vids said they'd been together like 10 years or something! I love them even more!!! Just how caring and loving and teasing and wonderful they are to each other... I just love these guys!
So interesting to see fuel price developments in Canada. Did the math and it‘s about 1.4€ per liter in Canada vs 2.45€ in Germany lately 🙈 Renewable energy transition cannot come soon enough 🙏🏼
Nice job with the Gazebo!! Is good looking and romantic. Everything is coming around as a charm… but I see how much work and time you invested. Well done 👍🏻 As always send you my love 😍
Thank you, UA-cam for recommending this channel! I love the way you two live. It’s my dream to be out in the woods away from people lol! Good luck to you both.
Hazel ☘️ … I always store two days of wood ahead in the house beside the fire … it is an aesthetic pain in the butt , however it really dries it out for better safer burning during winter season , because I too had problems with ‘moist’ (🤣) wood , and I was living in Spain at the time ! I’d sure crush one of those burgers right now .. yum yum ! Be safe, be warm and happy ! 🙏☘️😘
If you burn your fire very low, you will get a build up of creosote. Heating that pipe up is also scary, since it is right against the fabrick. Usually, you burn the fire hot, once a day, and it cleans it out naturally and doesn't cause a fire. Keep a stack of logs close enough to dry out beside the stove, but not close enough to cause a problem. That will dry it out and leave the home with a bit of sweet moisture from the natural water in the wood.

Hello guys. Just a reminder to check the heating in the sauna too, if it uses same firewood. I am so grateful you guys had that CO monitor.
I agree, Billy. I wouldn't have even thought about a CO monitor - thank goodness these guys are on the ball. They are like family to many of us now.
Good call, Billy! Def need to give that one a clean and a check!
These comments are so sweet and informative at the same time.. such a great community of people

I was going to mention, are you burning the fire hot enough?

You guys are hilarous, and so loving. Sunday is complete when your video drops, thanks Tyler and Todd.
You two are a breath of fresh air, thank you once again. Have a wonderful week ❣
Also add some weights at the screens hems, in case the wind is blowing that will reduce the gaps at the ground level.
Had the same thought and came to the comments to make sure someone brought it up! It sure looked like daylight was coming in between the tops of the walls and the roof.
My husband needs to put a bell on too. 33 years and he still startles me.
I just love your Sunday updates. They always seem so short- but that’s just me. They could be 2 hours long and I’d find myself saying: “That was WAY too short!” The gazebo looks fantasssstic!!😍
A swinging bed built out of pallets would look great on The Land. It's a plus outdoor relaxation spot for all 4 of you. I love your videos.
I can’t wait for Sunday’s!
love you guys! So glad you guys are safe and installed the necessary home safety equipment.
Thank god for the monoxide detector! Gazebo is wonderful and I’m sure you will be sat out there all the time now.
Your dogs are just the cutest ❤️
The forest scenery is so beautiful. I'm sorry to hear about the wood stove problems but I'm glad you got it solved. Another great video!
Congrats you both have accomplished so much sending our love see you all next Sunday
Ben & Jerry's Hell yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
have you tried burning potato peelings? i have a wood fire place and i know it def helps clean the chimney. i also use a cleaning burn log. Also to help with the bugs maybe build a bat house :)
Ben and Jerry's...best thing in your shopping cart!
I'm so glad you have the alarm and took care of the issues safely. I lost my sister to CO in 1994. Take care!
I absolutely look so forward to Sunday to watch, Tyler and Todd. Great video. Spring is on its way. See you next week. Hugs ❤
OMG!
The gazebo looks SOOOOO GOOD! You will be glad for those curtains when the bugs come out!!!
I enjoy my dinner watching you guys..every week there's always something amazing!! 😍😍😍
In this crazy world, you are the sun in my life! 🌞
Love you! ❤
Hugs from the Åland Islands! Hasse
So happy that the carbon monoxide detector went off. I just love you guys and am so grateful that I get to journey with you on your adventures 🥰
I ran home from food shopping to see you both!!!! Love you both .. love from Spring Hill, Florida
14:37 - OMG I'M DYING OF LAUGHTER
Whew! That was a close one. I am so glad you figured out the cause of the carbon monoxide. Take care. I’m looking forward to next week and more signs of Spring.
You guys are a hoot. Glad you had the safety alarm. Always smart! 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗

Wow no kidding - had no idea, we'll def look into that!
A chimney thermometer is very useful. A very tight wood stove throttled way down so it burns all night can burn so cool (especially in a non insulated chimney) that creosote will form in massive quantities no matter how dry the firewood…heated my house with wood for 10 years!
I always grab something to eat on the way home from the Grocery Store lol I thought I was the only one 😄🌞😎🏖🐊
It's a beautiful day here in Atlantic Beach Florida ya'll 🐊🏖😎🌞
You both are living my dreams ❤❤
We clean our stove window with old cloth rag squares cut from towels, flannel sheets. Just water, no ash needed.
Heyyy guys
Can't wait to watch !!
I got so happy seeing that y'all posted ❤️❤️
Lots of love to y'all
Absolutely love watching your videos
The comedy and cuteness is top notch.
Nice job cleaning up the dome, and putting the netting up, loved seeing the puppies but I missed not seeing LIly, Is she okay?
You can see her in the door at 18:39 ☺️
Brave dedicated hardest working adventurist couple in North America
Loved this so much. The outdoor space turned out beautiful. Love you guys.
THANK YOU! We're so in love with the entire space!
I love you guys ❤️ my birthday was yesterday
Happy belated, love!!!
Happy ongoing Birthday, Neisha! 🎈
Love you ALLLLL!!!!!! With lots of love all the way from Indianapolis, Indiana.. USA 🇺🇲❤️💯🤙🏾🌺
So interesting to see fuel price developments in Canada. Did the math and it‘s about 1.4€ per liter in Canada vs 2.45€ in Germany lately 🙈 Renewable energy transition cannot come soon enough 🙏🏼
Yeah. Here in New Zealand we just crossed into $3 a litre. Pray for us lol
Nice job with the Gazebo!! Is good looking and romantic. Everything is coming around as a charm… but I see how much work and time you invested. Well done 👍🏻
As always send you my love 😍
Thank you, UA-cam for recommending this channel! I love the way you two live. It’s my dream to be out in the woods away from people lol! Good luck to you both.
Hazel ☘️ …
I always store two days of wood ahead in the house beside the fire … it is an aesthetic pain in the butt , however it really dries it out for better safer burning during winter season , because I too had problems with ‘moist’ (🤣) wood , and I was living in Spain at the time !
I’d sure crush one of those burgers right now .. yum yum !
Be safe, be warm and happy !
🙏☘️😘
Okay, the co2 monitor has proved itself.
The sauna is my favorite and that you 2 use it is the best.
Carry on
If you burn your fire very low, you will get a build up of creosote.
