I do vw diesel mechanic since 30 years. One of the good modification to help cam on PD engine is drilling oil pass on cam caps (Franko6 mods). Jérôme Québec
@@JoshsJettas lol yah most people think it has to follow the spec or engines explode...all mine have been deleted so the requirements for low ash no longer are needed...t6 has been very heavily and I've not heard anyone say it's lacking quality and I know more than a few others that use it on their tdis as well
I use CastrolEdge Euro 5w 40 in all my shit. 2.0 BEV gas and the ALH I am fixing up, even my Lawn tractor lol. You can buy the 5 liter jugs on sale for between 40 and 49 bucks Canadian usually at crappy tire. I think they are like 59 or 60 dollars reg price. Where do you buy the cam shafts and lifters for the PD BEW? I am lost when it comes to cams/lifters...so much junky stuff out there its become a nightmare . I dont have a BEW but may at some point if i see one thats worth putting back on the road.
Yeah I just grab a pail whenever it’s on sale, the v10 takes 12L, so between that and the 4 cyl TDI’s it eats a pail up. Cascade German or Idparts have billet cams and Ina lifters, there’s a few performance ones that should last longer as well.
How often were you doing oil changes? I had a BRM that I got at 210k and drove it til 390k before the cam went out. Only used 505.01 religiously, but prob did 7-9k between changes. Maybe I should have done them more regularly.
15k km oil changes, it got a couple 20k km changes from mis-communication. The brms I’ve done were around that 350-400k km when they had holes in lifters
Is shell rotella considered cheap? Where I live it is sold for almost $30 for 1 litre. Compared to Castrol Edge TD which meets the VW 505.01 spec which costs $45 for 5 litres (i use this for my tdi pd 320k kms)
@@bobirving6052 search on youtube for volkswagen silicate bag removal. its going to be in your coolant tank and youll see a logo that looks like a hand with a bag on it. sometimes you can drain the tank and see it, but most people have to replace the tank. I got lucky and was able to remove mine. I also swapped from G13 to G12++ which people tell you not to do, but its fine if you drain the entire system and replace it all.

Cam bearing Reengineering for PD motors on tdiclub forum
I watch a channel that build race can engines and he also added lubricant to cams and other area ..Thanks for the tips
I haven’t done that but I’ve seen the his mods, it’s a simply mod that makes sense
Awesome video man. I enjoy stuff like this with these older tdi engines ✌️
I’m planning on some alh videos once I get my v10 set
Thank you for this video and information
Been using shell t6 in my tdis for 19 years...cjaa..alh..brm..cata..cnrb..not an issue..my brm has 516,000kms and still drive it daily
I can’t complain about the results on this car. It’s a sin if your on any of the tdi pages though.

Evil Energy look great😈! !thank you
Ran Pennzoil or Motomaster (Shell) 5w30 Euro in my CJAA. Bought 5L jug for under $30 on sale. OEM filter. Can’t go wrong
My passat is deleted and I run Amsoil Signature Series 5W40
Ive been running t6 15/40 in all my vw tdi and v10. oil changes every 5k never a probem so far. No oil burn either
Time to put the savings from Rotella in to lanolin oil undercoating! 😂
For sure, the rockers were good when we got it but it got a couple sets of fenders.
Thank you for sharing the video. I’ve learned a lot from it., are you in Ontario? I’m thinking of buying a TDI car recently
Yeah southern Ontario, they definitely have their pros and cons
I have a Volvo that has the inline 6 diesel based on the 1.6 diesel. Any oil suggestions. I run liqui moly 10w40
00' golf 235k , 03' jetta 560k rotella
PDs came from 1998 onwards though in the shape of the AJM. Dunno about the US though.
PDs in the US around 2003-2004 i think.
We only got them 04-06 (until 08 if you count the v10)
505.01 501.01 507.00 only use these on the us engine👍

are you talking about kms or miles?
Didn't matter brms had poorly made cams...most just wore out regardless of oil quality or brand.
@@dbeni23 Km, sorry should have specified.

I buy it by the 19L pail for $140-$160, liqui moly 505.01 spec is about $70-$80 for 5L.
Still gonna run t6 in my potholed ckra lol
We seem to rack the mileage up on my wife’s cjaa, maybe I’ll get to do a video like this one on it sooner then later
My 2012 cjaa burns oil. It has 165000 km. I don’t believe it’s the turbo. Any ideas why it’s hard on oil?
My guess would be turbo or rings
The spec oil wears cams worse than that right?
Need high zinc as an anti wear additive.
Vw spec man, in my 2012 cjaa
Do you know if the 15 tdi's also had heater core plugging issues or is thas strictly a ckra issue?
They did as well as leaking into the cabins.
Most recommend replacing the coolant every two years, as well as pulling the silicon bag out of the tank
Silicone bag? What is this?
I have a 2015 Jetta gas with a plugged heater core.
