I am voting this as best video on canoe camping in the ADKs! You captured the vibe perfectly. And thank you for being authentic and not adopting that goofy game show host persona that every other UA-camr adopts. 🤘🏻

This sure brought back memories of my ADK experiences back in the 70's. Canoeing, hiking, survival trips, and climbing the high peaks. I was based out of the Christian camp at Speculator NY called Deerfoot Lodge. Lots more of these would be great Mark!

Hey Mark. Late to the party here but I spent decades in the Adirondacks. My family as well. Including Speculator as Jim Fraser mentioned. Beautiful country. You really captured the magic of the Adirondacks in your video (rain, hiking, the loons, etc.). Well done. I like your canoe. I'm looking at the Adirondack Pack 13.6. Swift makes same great boats. Loved the Adirondacks . I grew up in Utica in the 60's and 70's . Was a Boy Scout and we went camping once a month . Spent most my time on the Fulton chain of lakes , Big Moose Lake and canoed the Moose River. Spent the summers at Cedar Lands Boy Scout reservation on Long Lake in Hamilton County. Words cannot explain how marvelous those times were.

I’ve been doing the backcountry stuff for 30+ years and I forget that sometimes what it’s like to experience these things.
It’s refreshing watching someone learning as they are going. Nice catch and thanks for not editing it out because it fell off. Too many people try to show how confident they are with everything when they clearly are not.
The pad Thai is my favourite. The lime Amirite!
Just returned to add this to the comment. As I was writing the post as you pulled out the meal. Glad you enjoyed it. I normally only eat two meals per day while out so for me two servings is perfect but that’s just me.

Great video, Mark! I'm watching this as the snow falls outside and the temp is a cozy +6F...dreaming of Spring. My wife and I moved permanently to the ADKs 3 years ago to our, then, vacation home. I'm a bit older now (85) but still enjoy hiking, camping, canoeing, and fishing.

I hope you're watching it indoors at a balmy 70° at least! Haha. I give you a ton of credit still getting it and doing it at 85 thats a great accomplishment. Bet it helps keep you young! I'm ready for Spring too.. got at least one paddling trip planned so far. 😁

Oh yes, the indoor temp never gets below 68 unless I run out of propane and firewood. As for paddling, I tore a rotator cuff 2 years ag (not repairable) so my paddling days are few, unless I want to go in circles. Maybe I'll just tag along with you vicariously in these videos. Immediately hit subscribe! No idea why YT took me this long to show me your channel since canoeing, fishing, and Harley vids are about 90% of my time on here, but I TRULY LOVED every bit of this video. Thanks for taking us along.
For years I kept emails with Stu and bought Boundary Waters Mag...it will be something I will do one day when family situation allows. For now I do day trips and sometimes a bit more.
Love a solo boat and some paddling and fishing and fire time.
Sometimes it's a pain but on calm days and slow paddles I will troll a streamer fly behind the canoe. The floating fly line keeps the fly up on a 8-9ft leader. The gentle motion of a paddle stroke causes the fly or lure to undulate and catches a ton of fish. From a spinning rod set up a small plastic bubble float will keep a really light maribu hair jig up off the bottom with a 5-6 ft distance from float to lure. The single hooks are about all I use anymore...too many times I hooked myself or my pack or clothes with a treble! (Not fun and easy to get fish off for me)
I also took note of the loaf pan, good idea. I have used an old tin deep pie pan for years as a shallow pot, griddle, and fry pan...the loaf pan may work even better.
I look forward to more of your channel.

This was a lovely trip down memory lane for me. You didn't tell us which lakes you were canoeing. Fulton Chain? Long Lake? What time of year was this trip? If it was actually August, I'm surprised at the absence of black flies and mosquitoes. I always did my hiking in early spring or fall after those pests had retreated.
I love the Adirondacks dearly. My first wilderness experiences happened in the High Peaks region and the Nothville Placid Trail back in the 60s and 70s. I live in Thailand now and unfortunately, I'm at an age that makes hiking and backpacking all but impossible and that makes seeing your travels all the more interesting.
