- If you grew up in the Welland/Port Colborne area, you are probably familiar with The DeFranco Family - five siblings who racked up a number of Top 40 hits in the early 70's along with numerous television appearances on shows like "American Bandstand" and "The Mike Douglas Show". Back in November of 2001, brothers Tony and Benny DeFranco returned home to Port to visit with friends and family, and reminisce about their days growing up in the area.
Wow!! He is gorgeous still!!
Pretty cool watching this... I grew up in the '70s and my sister adored Tony and The Franco family. People today might think this is cheesy but the '70s were pretty great! I grew up in the best time in human history!
100% I agree!! And the MUSIC!!! TRULY THE BEST!! ❤️ & ✌️TO ALL
@@georgemusic4all4seasons Did you actually read what I wrote? I said people today might, MIGHT, think is cheesy. And yes, I believe that is a true statement... People today might find them to be cheesy because, as you said yourself, their style was of the time, which is not of this time. And by the way, I never said they were cheesy directly. If anything, I said the '70s were great, the best time of my life, and this would make them great too.
@@RumbleFish69 I was agreeing with you but you misunderstood and I will remove my response to your question. It was not my intent to upset you whatsoever.
So did I
Absolutely true. I’m 65 and the 70’s had the best music ever!!!!!
My female first cousin loved these guys while I was into KISS and KC and the Sunshine Band.. Years later I do appreciate the DeFranco Family!!!
Tony was my heartthrob as a teen. Didn't miss a Tiger Beat. Never forgot him.
Seems like a really nice guy with his feet on the ground , not ego driven or resentful . I assume he and his siblings had well grounded parents and that makes all the difference . Kudos to him and his family .
I agree. But, how come the rest of the band/siblings, are not at this event?? 3/5th's of the family band is missing!! 🎶
Janet ☮️
As good looking as ever! More so, really. ❤ I had the biggest crush on Tony as a kid.
Awww well aren’t they adorable. It’s like they are still the heart throbs of us all once young teenagers. I’m 62 and still love their music! ❤😊
OMG!!! Tiger Beat!! Yes! and 16 Magazine! Oh how i miss the 70's!! Loved the DeFranco family!
Such memories. Loved Heartbeat.
Tony looks great! Even better level headed, not influenced by fame.
I used to read Tiger Beat and that's where I learned of the Defranco family. I got the 45 single "Heart Beat It's A Love Beat" for Christmas at my elementary school Christmas party. Spent the Christmas holidays in front of the old brick gas heater with my turntable listening to it, over and over again. Great memories. He's still handsome!! ❤Beat!
Me too !!
Good music, good times, good people. Thanks Tony and DeFranco family for spreading the Love.
I loved The DeFranco Family!!! I had Tony's picture from Tiger Beat on my wall in
73-74!!! Loved them!!!!!
I and Tony are about the same age. The family music was happy, uplifting, inspiring and just made you feel good. He had said in some interview? That their contracts with music was not the most beneficial to the family? Thanks Tony for make a sad child happy for a little while. My Respects to You Sir, and your very Talented Family. RH DSD
The dude can still sing well! Looks like he kept himself fit and healthy too. Good for Tony. I hope the rest of his brothers and sisters did well too into adulthood.
Tony you still make my heart beat!! Lol
He still has a beautiful voice! I grew up in Scandinavia, never saw them on tv, read about them in youth-magazines and heard them a few times on the radio. I was an Osmond fan but Tony was just as good as Donny! When I got my first computer at the age of 37 in 1980 I hurried to find The Osmonds and De Francos, and finally see them "live" dancing and singing🥰
Tony grew up to be a handsome man!I had a huge crush on Tony Defranco when I was ten."Heart beat it's a love beat"was the first Defranco Family songs I'd heard. And my fave!I like "Save the last dance for me also.Hi Tony&Defranco Family!thanks for making my life fun!🎸🎤😊
He looks great as an adult!
Tony DeFranco I think I still love you!!❤ Best memories ever!
I was 12 and was totally in love with Tony Defranco. The Jack Benny Show was my first time seeing The Defranco Family.

What a well adjusted man. Who can say I was a teen idol.
Italian people are such gorgeous people!
I was 9 yrs old when i watched all of De Franco Family perform at a Bob Hope OSU tour 1973 Ft. Worth Tx. Cotton Bowl Stadium. 80000 thousand other souls watched also :-)) 50 star studded night and it was Grand.
I think Tony sings even better now!!❤
I still have that album somewhere in a box LOL XOXO
So cool to see this so many years later. They look and sound great! 🧡
Wow.i love canada
Doesn't appear that childhood stardom messed him up in the slightest. Seems like a level-headed guy! I'd love to see these guys in person today!
Great memories of their music in grade school. I should say Thanks DeFrancos!
They didnt last long. Maybe they had good parents didnt see them as cash cows.
i still love you Tony!! 🤩😚
Omg i was out of my mind for tony defranco i was so in love with him i litterally got sick lol

Thank you DeFrancos ... I loved all of your music and still do. Thank you.
Glad he mentioned " sweet Loretta" I ended up liking that one more than heartbeat
Tony seems like a down-to-earth kind of guy. I'm glad he found success after their band.
I went to school with Tony at St. Patricks school. He was a very out going guy.
Tony DeFranco is even cuter, now! Thank-you to the CanContent rules for music that brought us these 70’s artists!!!
Never going to forget you guys it was my best years misd you

So much Talent and beauty 🎉❤❤❤ I made my mother buy everything with their pictures! I makes my heart skip beats to see him. I always wondered what happened to them. I am very happy they're healthy and have a family!!!!🎉❤❤❤❤
November and December 1973. Loved this song. God bless Tony DeFranco and the DeFranco Family many more years of good health. The World needs more singers like them today. Being a Niagara Falls, Ontario born and grew up in kid we quickly knew who Canadian music acts were first before the rest of the World became more familiar with them. It was a top hit at around the first time in my life I fell in love with the opposite sex a few years before I ever knew what sex is. This song reminds me even as a 9 year boy a Family neighbourhood girlfriend the same age as me and I played the song when we were together when she visited my house. She also hung around my sister. What do I remember about the Fall and Christmas? My sister's 45 RPM Records I played: Elvis Presley "Burning Love", The Rolling Stones "Angie", Led Zeppelin "Dyer Maker", Edgar Winter Group "Free Ride", The DeFranco Family "Heartbeat It's A Lovebeat", Todd Rundgren "Hello It's Me", Loggins and Messina "My Music", Helen Reddy "Leave Me Alone", and the Carpenters "Top Of The World". For the second Christmas in a row in 1973 like 1972 I had a box of 64 Crayola Crayons With Built-In Sharpener and 24 Case of Venus Canada Laurentian Pencil Crayons given as gifts. Also Evel Knievel Toy Bike, hahahahahaha
Live and grew up in the US have the same kind of memories
Love that you remember all those songs. Some of the best from those years. I was 15/16 and they are indelible parts of my high school memories...would love to go back, if only for awhile..
Wonderful to see!!! Thank you for the great memories and fabulous entertainment. Catherine and Michael Sacco 💖💖💖
I grew up listening "Time Enough for Love"..usually the radio played very early in the morning when my sisters got prepared to go to scholl. THANKS VERY MUCH TONY!!!!
I was only like 2 yrs old when the DeFranco Family hit it big with Heartbeat it's a Lovebeat, but I remember that album being in my older sibling's collection and it's one of the earliest songs I can remember hearing in my childhood. I heard it on the 70s station on XM today and it just blew my mind, such a blast from the past, really stirred up the nostalgia for me.
I really do think Tony DiFranco is Great and I would love to meet him I have always thought he was a great singer and I wish he was still singing. 😅 🎉 ❤.
tony can still sing!
And he's still handsome 💘🤩
That was so much interesting to watch that was an interesting interview of Tony DE Franco as great to see him sing that song after so many years and see and Benny with them
Loved that song I wasn’t aware they were from Canada wow
I was an Osmond fanatico, Tony was a little too young for me but I did love the Heartbeat song. Glad to hear he's had so much success behind the scenes.
Love that he is a recreational Hockey player too!
Adorable that they are performing their hit song!
What a wonderful memory! I was one of those 11 yr old girls that subscribed to Tiger Beat Magazine and LOVED Tony & the DeFrancos! Thank you so much for this update! ❤
Omg how did I miss this!!! I love you guys.
I would love to see a video of this entire thing... but thank you for this clip. I have never seen it.
OMG.. that is my YOUTH right there. And that is my heart. I'm still eleven when I look at his beautiful face. I used to literally about pass out when I would see Tony on tv. Every month I would wait for bated breath until the new Tiger Beat hit the stands. I finally got to see him at Six Flags over MidAmerica. My parents took me and my mom was his second biggest fan, next to me of course. She told the story for years... that he came out to the crowd and said, "Hi, I'm Tony." And the girls went into hysterics. She talked about him yearly until her death in '95. In my life, my youth.. he was IT. No Elvis, No Donny, Nobody else.. he was IT. *sigh.. such great memories
Gawd, I miss my youth. lol
Very Cool....
Nice looking family
Yes scrapbooks and posters and records 😸Wow beautiful man he is here.and still close w/family.
You make my life better i had sad times now im ok because of music like you 😍
I discovered the DeFranco family while watching VH1 as a teenager. “Heartbeat, It’s a Lovebeat” is such a timeless song.
That was super nice, glad it all turned out good,I always wondered where they went cuz that song always pop up in my head
Even better looking now! Damn! Even Benny is hotter.🙏🏼
I always remember going with my mom to her friends house as a baby and her daughters would play the DeFranco Family record for me! 😍
Tony DeFranco still an amazing talent great voice, what the hell have you been doing all these years !! ????
He became a somewhat successful real estate broker here in the Los Angeles area. Specifically Westlake Village.
I use to get mistaken for Tony in shopping malls Ironically my last name is DeCarlo lol. Still remember them in the 70s growing up close to where they lived in Ontario.
He still had some pipes during this show
my fav band besides Jacksons growing up
Beautiful
Wow.tony .
I went 2 junior high school with Tony Defranco in the early 70s.
WOW
okay
@@arlenebowers326 Okay what?😀
Tell us about Tony. What was he like?
@@DebbieUnderfinger I knew him at Walter Reed JHS in North Hollywood California in Los Angeles. This was between 1971- 1974.He was a just a regular guy.He wasn't famous yet.😁
No wayyyyyy je sound great wow
He is still cute.
Lpol, I had Tigerbeat magazine! Oh the good old days. Lol
Only Tony DeFranco's voice was actually used on the records. All the siblings really sang during their sessions, but afterwards the background vocals were substituted with session singers. The same session singers who "augmented" the Bradys, Jacksons, and Partridges. It was in effect Tony DeFranco and the Partridge Kids. The Defranco Family was unaware of it. The Tiger Best man was frustrated over not receiving a cut of record sales from all those faces in his magazines. He simply created an act to make that money.
He didn’t create the act. They were a family act already.
They need to make more music. I love them had the 45 till 2000
Loved the Defrancos the sisters were advice columnist for tiger beat. I followed their advice.
BECAME FRIENDS WITH THESE GUYS WHEN THEY APPEARED ON THE MIKE DOUGLAS SHOW WHEN MY AUNT WAS HIS PRODUCER AND I REMEMBER THERE MOM TALKING WITH MOM THE WHOLE SHOW WHILE I WAS BONDING WITH TONY AND THE GUYS. ALL OF US HAD GREAT PARENTS WHAT BETTER BONDING THAN THAT.
Every is either a neighbor or a relative.
I really liked the DeFranco Family. I thought they were better than the Osmonds.
Unfortunately, they weren't given much of a chance to see how far they could go. Bad management decisions and changing trends…
Blasphemy!!! 😉 lol 😂
Still handsome a very good looking family. Sweet had the 45s unroll I moved to Florida the movers stole my records. Except my Beatles albums that were my mom's. I left them with her.
I wonder if Tony would think it was ok if I cover "Heartbeat" but in an adult deeper voice, like sort of how Elvis might have done it..I will do it, what do you all think?
I say GO FOR IT!! I for one, would like to hear that!
I want to hear your cover
it great to be italian
Tony grew up nice.
Tony turned out to be a hotty💖
One of them was on the news this morning
The older brother
I was in love
They even had the Defrancos making triangle symbols 😳
I can't believe ' how many cover's of Heart Beat" by other artists, there Are ' Unbelievable '
Hey Tony, your sisters is cute. {Waited 44 years to say that}
💜🎶
I wish the two girls would have been there too. Maybe they can do this again? Port Colburne is in Canada right?
Yes, Canada, Ontario
Gotta remember, this was 19 years ago.
