Track cycling dates back to at least 1870 and, with the exception of 1912, has played a part in every Olympics in the modern era. Track Cycling events can be roughly split into 2 disciplines -- Sprinting and Endurance
Sprint Events:
Individual Sprint - This is a very tactical event in which riders try to outmanoeuvre their opponents. Sometimes riders will come to a standstill in an effort to make their opponent take the lead, which is the least advantageous position before the final sprint to the finish line.
Team Sprint - This spectacular form of racing sees two teams start off on opposite sides of the track. It is raced by teams of three riders over three laps for Elite Men and two riders over two laps for Elite Women. Each rider leads for a lap before dropping back.
Kilometre / 500m Time Trial - This is an individual time trial from a standing start. Elite Men race over 1km and Elite Women over 500 m. The competitor with the fastest time is the winner.
Keirin - Keirin racing originated in Japan. Contested over 2 km, the field of three to seven riders follows a pacing motorbike at an increasing speed, all the while jostling for position. When the motorbike pulls off the track with two and a half laps to go, the battle begins to win the sprint to the finish.
Endurance Events:
Individual Pursuit - Two riders start on opposite sides of the track and compete over 4 km for Elite Men and 3 km for Elite Women. The winner is the rider who manages to catch his/her opponent or who records the fastest time.
Team Pursuit - Two teams of 4 riders (3 riders for women) start on opposite sides of the track and compete over 4 km (3 km for women). The winning team is the one that manages to catch its opponents or that records the fastest time.
Points Race - This superbly tactical discipline is contested over a long distance, usually 40 km for men and 25 km for women in major events. The final result is determined according to points gained during sprints (one every 10 laps on a 250 m track) and when a rider manages to lap the rest of the field.
Madison - Up to 18 teams of two riders take part in this relay race contested by means of intermediary sprints. While one team member races, the other slows down to take a rest. When he rejoins the race, his teammate throws him into the action with a hand sling. The classification is established according to the distance covered and the points won in the sprints (every 20 laps). The Madison is held over distances of 25-50 km for Elite Men, depending on the competition.
Scratch Race - This is a race for up to 24 individual riders over 15 km for men and 10 km for women. The first across the finish line is the winner.
Omnium - The Omnium is made up of 6 events and is disputed over 2 consecutive days. The final classification is established by adding up the finishing places in each event. The winner is the rider who has the lowest total. At the 2012 London Olympics, the Omnium comprised a Flying lap, a Points race, an Individual pursuit, a Scratch Race, a Kilometre / 500m time trial and an Elimination Race.

Basically, the cyclists Don't want to be the one who leads because if you're in front then the person behind you saves a lot of energy from your wind displacement
@@TheRedmondEthan That's not really true, because if you're behind you have the suprise advantage and you can get past someone without them realising before you are in front of them.

Same rules as in every sprint? The first that crosses the line wins
the strategy in this is insane. If your in the lead, the drag will slow you down, and the other person knows that. Stopping will try to get the other opponent to get the lead so the drag will slow him down and you get the slipstream and beat him. thats why dimietriev won both of those because he had the slipstream, and because of this the person in front sets the tempo to the race, not the back. Very strategic and awesome to watch.

Not really i average 25km/h my fastest was 50km/h so really 60km/h is decent 65 to 70km/h is impressive and ive seen guys do that. I personally do not do this type of biking i do mtb if you wanna come check me out on here and strava you can follow me
It's not impressive on their bikes. It's way more impressive for how long they can maintain that speed, when they get it, and the tactics.

To those who don't know bacically the 1st man has a disadvantage as it is believed that if the 2nd man feels less drag 30% to be exact as a result he tries to outrun his opponent in the end

Задача - приехать к финишу первым. "Нижний" велосипедист стартует первым, но не может сразу ехать изо всех сил, т.к. из-за особенностей аэродинамики он будет тратить на 30% больше энергии и "верхний" велосипедист сожрёт его на финише. Поэтому первый круг они пытаются пропустить друг друга вперёд.
Не особо понятно, но интересно.
Кэп, спасибо! Но требуются дополнительные разъяснения. Что - первый круг незачётный? Я вообще не понял что к чему, когда эти танцы увидел.

Короче, едут они всего 3 круга. Задача - приехать первым. Первый круг-полтора - самое интересное, тактическая борьба, экономия сил. Ситуация, когда они стоят на месте - сюрпляс, друг друга пропускают вперед, кто дольше простоит. Сейчас длительный сюрпляс запрещен, раньше могли по полчаса стоять.
Самая идеальная позиция - если едешь на колесе у соперника и на последних 150-200м, набирая макс. скорость, выезжаешь из-за спины и, будучи посвежее, обходишь конкурента.
Что значит "незачетный" круг? Здесь зачетная только финишная линия, а до нее все 3 круга равноценны, никаких преимуществ за отдельно выигранные круги не получаешь.

@@Vechnyi_dvigatel в общем, никто не хочет ехать первым, потому что первому тяжелее из-за встречного потока воздуха, преодолевая сопротивление которого, тратится больше сил. А то, который едет сзади, он на подсосе, ему легче, потому что чувак спереди рассекает воздух. Ну, тут, видимо, как в дуэли а диком западе - кто первый не выдержит и щиманётся вперёд)

I never understand this Race in my entire life trust me
three laps, first one wins. The problem is that the one in front will lose a lot of energy due to air resistance while the one in tha back can take advantage of the first's wind displacement. The second one will then have fresher legs to sprint in the last corner, surpass and win. To avoid this the first one makes every attempt to get the second one to surpass and swop the roles. (sorry for bad english)

Павлин Краснопёров второй раз потому шо всегда два заезда, с разных позиций, останавливались это сюрпляс называется, т.к позиция сзади более выгодная и первый старается пропустить второго вперед, но т.к тормозов на велосипедах нет, приходится поднимать заднее колесо и гасить инерцию об трек. колёса для аэродинамики, у переднего сопротивление больше, поэтому там лопасти.

Для тех кто не знает правила - это спринт. Нужно проехать два или три круга, кто первый тот и победил. Время не важно. Хоть час можно ехать. Вторая позиция считается более выгодной , так как из-за спины легче совершить резкий рывок перед финишем. (Можно пользоваться наклоном трека, накатывая с внешнего края трека к центру, как бы с горы это усиливает ускорение). Первый спортсмен может этот момент прозевать и вынужден постоянно оглядываться. Просто втопить с самого старта и до финиша скорее всего не получится, т.к. второй будет экономить силы в аэродинамической тени и у него останется больше сил на финишный рывок. Поэтому идёт тактическая игра, каждый старается занять вторую позицию вначале, пропустить соперника вперёд. Вплоть до остановки.

There is an advantage in being behind the other person less drag, and they use that advantage to gain a quick boost in speed and get ahead of the other person right before the finish line so the other guy can't use the same tactic to get back in first place. And this is not a timed race it is a lap race, so it doesn't matter how long it takes to win the race just as long as you are in first place at the finish line on the last lap

Когда едешь за спиной, на тебя сопротивление встречного воздуха не влияет т.е ты используешь человека впереди себя как своего рода зонт. Тем самым тебе легче педалировать - быстрее набирается скорость.

Can someone explain the sport, or at least tell me the name so I understand
Track Cycling Sprint.
Both players start at the same time, but a predetermined one must lead for the first lap. Once they cross the start line again, they try to force the other to the front, so they can see them easily and can use their slipstream to save energy and thus go faster, while the player in front can easily be surprised and has to deal with more drag. You can stop, weave, etc., but you can't touch the wall or the other player with anything, or the floor with anything other than your tires, and you cannot go backwards.
First person to the finish wins, a match is best 2 out of 3. Time does not matter at all, but tracks will take a split time for the final sprint for informal comparison.
Basically it's a game of cat and mouse, with aerodynamics and the element of surprise making the back the advantage

Это трек. Надо первым проехать определённое кол-во кругов. А стоят на месте они изза того что не хотят ехать первым, хотят пропустить соперника. Ехать первым не выгодно, сзади ехать легче, ведь твой соперник рассекает воздух, а ты сидишь за ним. И в итоге за полкруга до финиша ты начинаешь объезжать соперника. У тебя сил больше чем у него. Таковы соревнования. Сам этим занимаюсь. Не забывай. Это спринт на треке.

Instead of spending time outmaneuvering, why not take that time to go faster than your opponent? Or just use the faster maneuvering tactics when you’re already in the lead going as fast as possible???

they pedal backwards. these are fixed bikes, you cannot coast. when you pedal forward, bike goes forward. when you pedal backwards, bike goes backwards.
