CODE 3 GOTTA ROLL SEMI TRUCK BLOCKING BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION

- Hello Ladies & Gentlemen and as always, thank you for watching!!! Today, the Missouri State Highway Patrol has requested that we "expedite", which authorizes us to run Code. We do not get to make that decision to run Code, we have to be given authorization. I know it is strange to a lot of people seeing and hearing a towing/recovery unit running lights and sirens, but, here in Missouri, the state recognizes us as Emergency Services. revisor.mo.gov... Anyway, today we are asked to move a semi truck with a loaded trailer that is stuck in heavy traffic coming up to road construction on top of a bridge. Gavon is running traffic control. Ethan is running the Western Star. And, I'm running the rotator. When the call came in, it was unclear what the situation was, only that a semi was involved and the bridge was blocked, and we were asked to "expedite". So, we send enough equipment to move whatever may be needed. Thankfully, the driver of the semi was uninjured. I do not know the status of the people involved in the other related incidents. We have a difficult and dangerous job and we take it very seriously, that doesn't mean we can't have fun and enjoy our work. We strive to be polite, professional, efficient, and safe...and still can have fun. I hope you all enjoy this video!!! Thanks for watching and God bless!!!

My common analogy, "there are many ways to reach 10". I could have approached this (any) job several different ways. The approach method is important, but more important is achieving the desired result, safely.
Again, a very special thank you to all my viewers, family, and friends who having taken the time to show their support. May God bless and protect you all!!!

Does the lift arm have an inbuilt secondary locking system to prevent accidental lowering, whilst you are working underneath the stricken truck?
Yes....there are "holding valves" built onto the cylinders which prevent movement of the cylinders in any direction unless hydraulic pressure opens the valve. So, even if a line blows to the main lift cylinders, the boom, in theory, is suppose to stay in place and not fall. I do not wish to test that theory. Typically, we place wood blocks under the tires after lifting and prior to going under the truck. I know we have been hammered by a lot of people on this video for not having the blocks in place. We are human and we make mistakes. I asked for the blocks, but didn't verify they were in place before I got under the truck. A mistake was made and a lesson was learned. That's how we grow. I know you weren't the person being critical. You were simply asking a question, politely, which I greatly appreciate. For the haters and critics.....have you never made a mistake or an oversight, especially when under pressure? I know I certainly have. I'm very safety conscious. I made a mistake and failed on a major safety issue and, thankfully, nobody was injured because of it. At least I'm humble enough to admit my mistake. Thanks and God bless.
@@RonPratt I think it is good that you post these videos. Simple things like the blocks that you have done thousands if not millions of times are super easy to forget that one time (but it only takes once). Having 129,000 people looking at your work is a very easy way for those things that you forgot be pointed out.
Thank you for doing what you do to keep our roads safe and moving.
@@RonPratt Thank you, take care. 🙂
i was thinking the samething. i'm always leery of going underneath a vehicle like that or on a hoist at a "shop". i know there's suppose to be redenies, but crap still happens. i tend to be a bit paranoid about such things. it, just takes that one time and you're screwed.
@@RonPratt Nothing like a collection of wood blocks and some wedges. Would you benefit from a set of close-fitting helmets like the tree-cutting guys wear? You can get them with low-power UHF radios built in, which is great for on-scene communication. That wind might have been the cause for someone not hearing you ask for the blocks? I would never try to run your scene but after a few years of asking we have them now for extrication, the same noise and wind, and low-angle rescue alongside highways and such.
No matter where I am, I consider ANY vehicle with flashing lights (no matter what color they are) an emergency vehicle and give them a wide berth!
As always, be safe and God bless you, your crew and your equipment!
I'm with you. Unfortunately not everyone feels the same.
For me, it depends on their duties, not lights. Are construction vehicles emergency vehicles because they have flashing lights?
@@CommanderZachere2012-qd8wg wish you guys wouldn't speed past mail trucks risking their lives
As much as we all might like the longer videos, we can all appreciate when it's shorter. It means no one was seriously hurt (or even hurt at all), everyone was safe, the job was executed extremely well, there was no confusion among those who responded, and the job went (mostly) according to plan. Excellent job as always Ron, and to your guys as well, it looks like they have taken a good bit of pride in their work, seeing as how they are not bumbling around, but issuing orders on their job, as well as asking the correct questions, and getting it done as fast and as safe as possible.
Such a pleasure to watch a PROFESSIONAL crew at work-- so many guys I've seen do this-- have NO clue.... yours are ALL masterfully trained and a TEAM...
Having had a Holiday Rambler motor home leveling system fail and drop a complete motor coach on me, I can't even begin to explain how it sickens me to see you crawl under that truck before the front end is chained down and ALL hands are away from the controls. OK, I know it can only fall until the wheels are on the ground and there is a lot more clearance between the bottom of the truck and the ground than a 38 ft Holiday, but still I remember the months of recovery and 24 years later still have some pains. Be careful out there Ron! On the positive side, anytime I see someone trying to change a tire, I stop and be that PITA old guy that explains why you don't put your legs under the car when it's jacked up and why you always put the spare on the ground under the vehicle and once the flat is off you slip the flat where the spare was until you are done. If they are lucky, I show them my scars.
I paused just as the right frame at the end of the video to start wondering why there was an ad on the windsheild... then I realized it was a billboard haha.
Thanks for the hard work, everybody! You got the guy out of his pickle if a good dill of time! God's many blessings to the Midwest family!
I’m a retired critical care nurse and haven’t a clue how to drive a stick shift. I love everything about your videos. You are such a kind man. Thank you for your good work.
Ron, tell Ethan that He needs to be VERY Concerned when the bridges STOP shaking. A shaking bridge is a sign of a Healthy bridge. I spent 23.6 years on the Highways of Delaware.
I’m not a dot truck driver but I love watching this channel Ron Pratt best content on UA-cam in fact better than all streaming platforms to watch god bless you, your family and the team
As a volunteer firefighter, as far as I'm concerned, you are first responders
@williamleonard6481 Kindly allow me to agree.
Maybe the term "2nd responder" is better... first responder is worried about life and safety of the person and calls for the 2nd responder to come, 2nd is worried about the property and getting it so there's not surprises for others on the road.
I agree with this as well on most MVA’s the tow guys are the ones who get us out of the dangerous situations such as dangerous roadways and around here we also use the local tow company if a vehicle is over a hill for vehicle stabilization the tow guys contribute just as much to the effort as we do
This volunteer firefighter agrees with the above volunteer firefighter.
@@wolphin732 I don't really see where the differentiation is necessary. Do firefighters become "second responders" if the building on fire is vacant so there are no lives to protect, except their own when they go in? Besides, there already is a kind of difference as Ron and his oeople can only run Code when the police explicitly tell them to, they can't do it based on their own judgement.
Another job well done. I can imagine that the Highway Patrol is always happy to call on your team to clear a traffic issue. Ethan is becoming an excellent recovery pro.
Stay safe and healthy.
@chuckmoore1380 I can only agree, Ron and his crew have built a good relationship with police/fire agencies. In one video, there's even another tow company that stopped and assisted in traffic control. In another, fire rescue heard that they were called, and decided "what can we do to make it easier for Ron?"
Especially when his terminal is literally around the corner
I can bet that state patrol like having you guys around to clean up the highways Ron. You guys always do it in every safe way possible. God Bless You Guys.
I love your professional relationship with your boys. They were first on scene, they're capable, they're calling most of the shots and you're there to support THEM. "what do you need from me?"
Love it, love it, love it!
YOU ARE EMERGENCY SERVICES!!! Geting there and clearing crashes asap prevents others and saves lives. You operate safely in these videos, much respect.
I know you’re in a rush however you asked for a wood block under the front tires and it never happened. Hard hats too.
I caught that too! A big safety oops!
Geez, everytime you look over that bridge my vertigo takes a beating, Nice job guys!
It would sure be nice if a lot of drivers would be able to see a video like this just show how much work you guys do and trying so hard to get things off the highway great job guys
Hi Ron! I bet your Dad would be proud to see Ethan running his truck!, He suely must be smiling up in heaven! Stay safe and God Bless!
I was just thinking that they still have a "Father and Son" running the 'tator and the Western Star, they just changed a generation.
Amen!🙏

Being retired from the oilfield, I am pleased to see the teamwork and moral support that you have for each other. And yes the kittens have been great
Always great to get a new vid. This one was a bit unusual on the safety front, at least in my opinion. Seeing all 3 of you under the truck without the trusty wood blocks and only 1 hard hat (the one we were sat on lol) made me a lil nervous. I guess i'm too used to those things being done in previous vids that it caught me off guard. Don't get me wrong i'm not knocking the work or you guys, i just don't want anyone to come to any harm out there. Daft as it sounds, i've become kinda fond of u lovely lot at midwest truck. Be safe!!
Ron did suggest putting blocks under the tires, but it never happened. Guess everyone assumed someone else would do it, or the blocks were on the passenger side of the tow trucks and they decided that the risks of spending a lot of time getting them out and putting the back up were higher than not using them.
Whatever the reason, it made me a bit nervous as well, even knowing it all worked out because the video was posted.
I think they only really worry about hard hats when they are doing overhead lifting, and Ron needs to wear his because (as you pointed out), that's where the camera is mounted
Totally agree with all these comments. I bit too much of a hurry 😶😶
I am from Missouri. You all do awesome work. I use to drive OTR and it is people like you who ALWAYS HELP and DO AN AWESOME JOB. THANK YOU to you and your valuable crew!!!!!
I love the episodes where you roll code. It is just something different to see a tow truck running code.
We haven't seen Mike in a while. I hope he's doing well, wherever he is.
I was thinking about that earlier this week.
Mike don't work with them anymore due to health issues🥺
Yeah, even Raymond
Not just mike, some of the old faces that were in older videos, Tom and others whose names I’ve forgotten.
You have a sharp memory to remember what equipment is in which box. I'm 78, and with my current level of memory, I'd forget where I parked the truck!
Damn, Ethan has come a LONG way in his skills and responsibilities since I first started watching your channel. Kudos
well he did learn from the best
If you Tow Operators were not on the scene in a timely manner many people would die or be more seriously injured. I am guessing you dont show many of the more intricate tows of having to tear apart/relocate vehicle bits to allow FF and Med personnel to gain access to the Patients. The amout of knowledge you have to keep up with each year is astounding!
Thanks Ron and Crew for helping to keep all of us safe! You are most definitely First Responders and should run codes. Times a wasting in the Golden Hour! God Bless!!
Glad ive been watching YOUR channel( yours only)
My f250 had succumb to mud, my V10, was powerless. My neighbors chevy suv has no towing ability, but i found decent spot to attach my 20' 7,000 lb strap, n i directed just how to initiate, "Slow steady movements" and got my truck freed. Thanks!‼️
I am really impressed with Ethan I been watching since 2017 and he's really come along way in a short time! Gotta be a proud moment every time you get to work together for you.
That team had it covered and knew just what was required… great you were there for guidance if it was needed.
I am really trying to let them roll more often. Ethan does much of the calls after hours now. He does really well when Dad is not over seeing everything lol. Thanks for watching and God bless.
I appreciate the fact that Ethan was comfortable telling you what things weren’t done, rather than succumbing to “go fever”.
Thank you all first responders for your services
I remember how proud Mr Pratt was of the Dodge pickup when y’all first bought it. Prayers for you and your guys safety out there
Ha- when you're DRIVING in the TATER-- and I can't see ahead of you because the camera on your hat is high- I catch myself leaning down to see if I can see better!! ha. THAT is how INTO these videos I get-- like I'm IN the truck with you..ha.
Been there too, done that
Human nature. Many of us do that, actually, strange as it is. Especially those of us who are loyal viewers of Ron and the 'Tator since, as you said, we get totally into it, and feel like we're there with Ron. There's a whole bit of neuropsychology behind that tendency, and similar ones (ever leaned sideways while watching a cockpit cam of a banking aircraft, or a police dashcam of a pursuit through a tight curve, for instance?), not that most of us are interested or would even understand much of the science. Definitely amusing, though.
I HATE Breaking down in Construction Zones. I blew an Air dryer once. 3 hr wait for a 5 min fix. Air dryers should have a bypass so you can charge the air system.
I didn't know you could hook up air lines to a tractor like you can a trailer.
Is that a new feature?
Good work as usual Mr Ron & co.
Ron And all Road Side Maintenance and Emergency crews Thx for yalls service risking lives to keep us safe snd roads open ❤ 🇺🇸
It must brighten your day a bit when you say "you need to do..." and somebody says "he did." You don't have to tell them everything, but you make sure it gets done--good boss!
Yes, that can be a real problem when someone takes offense because you double checked. Sometimes I’ve had co-workers say, “don’t you think I know how to do my job.”. So when I don’t ask and they mess up, guess who gets to spend hours fixing the mess that could have been avoided in one minute? Not them.
Up here in the great white north, the tow trucks have just gotten approved for blue lights and are still getting hit! Be safe out there!
That secondary crash and potentially others is always a concern when there is the first accident. Maybe "rubber necking" or people just not paying close enough attention. Mobile phone use gets the lions share of the negative press (for a good reason). But there is plenty out there that can cause a distracted driver. I remember driving to work when I was in High School and I would be tying my tie. Strange but back in the 70s "bag boys" had to wear ties to carry groceries out to the customers vehicle. They used to "tip" us back then. They only paid you $2.50 an hour but on Saturday you could make $100+ with tips.
and back in the 70s... $2.5 went a lot further than even $10 these days!
Excellent. You do have many good people. Ethan is progressing very well. All of you STAY SAFE OUT THERE.
I'm glad everyone was ok & nothing was damaged & no one injured just a simple breakdown. Good thing you did go up there to help as looked like he needed an extra set of experienced hands on scean, plus got it moving faster. Team work is the key
As always Ron much love and respect to you and all the other tow company and drivers.
I was working security and driving company car (outfitted with amber lights), and was same type of situation. I honestly saw a lot of cars almost hit this guy in his car multiple times.
So I turned on all my lights and sat behind him till the police arrived. I like to think that I saved this guy serious body harm because I was able to provide a block. And all of this was at like 2 in the morning.
My son, Dylan Myers, watches you and tells me about you all the time!!! Now I'm watching when I have time 😊
I miss watching you when you ain't on here keep up the wonderful work you and your crew do God Bless you all
Thanks for another great video Ron and Ethan.
It was interesting and informative.
Great hookup and getting truck off the interstate.
The retired Air Force veteran
Im a volunteer firefighter in missouri and i been told that you guys are first responders been volunteer firefighter for four year's started when I was a cadet firefighter at 15 and now im 19
Would love to drive the Tator with the lights and sirens! Ron, you have the coolest job!
Yea, sort of. But we, luckily, don’t get to see the nastier side of some jobs.
i would love to see a truck tour video showing what you carry on the truck and the ins and outs of the rotator
Respect to you all. This is a dangerous job.
Good to see ron teaching the youngins properly with patience and reassurance 👍 not to many ppl like that
20 years and retired FD here, great job guys!!! Communication and knowing how to overcome fittings on brake system. I'd loved to have worked with you guys about 3 years ago!!! Great effort in a tight spot! Be safe my friends,God bless!
Happy Friday Ron! What a beautiful way to end the week!
Short but intense! Good compliment to Ethan about catching the truck. Another job well done!
Glad I found this channel. Just love it. I'm 80 fem. and don't get around that much. Always wanted to ride in a big truck and this is pretty close, with a siren yet .....lol
Always enjoy watching you work and listening to your explanations. God bless you and keep you and your crew safe.
Love how you run code but still you use your turn signals. PLEASE STAY SAFE OUT THERE.
When there isn't a quick fitting it takes about 30 seconds to take the pop off out of the air dryer and screw in a fitting for supply air. Swivel head 3/8 drive with a deep 9/16 is all ya need and it's way faster than tapping into the plumbing.
That truck's set up was a little different and a great learning opportunity for Ethan and his buddy. Nice job.
Good to see the STAR doing what it does best!
Hey Ron, thanks for another note video! I have watched all of them. I subscribed years ago, I was also in the towing business then. Would watch your videos after my shift. I only did light duty, with a rollback. Many years prior I was a electrician. When 9/11 happened, that night I felt that I needed to do something. So, in my garage I took a piece of 1/2 inch heavy wall conduit, drilled holes after talking measurements of the flag I had on the front of my house. Sorry for the run on sentence but it just got emotional. Then I drilled a hole in my ladder rack, and installed Our American flag. Had to make a little adjustment the next day, so the flag didn't wrap around the pipe. After that, no matter which way the wind was blowing, she was straight out, proud!!!
If I told you the response I got, it would be a long book. Have you ever thought of running flags on your trucks? With the choas in the world, all Our country, might give people more hope. Just a thought. As we say, stay safe! God's got your back. Amen brother 🙏
Subscriber here shouting out from Lowry City Missouri. Another great video. Loved the Terry video. What a wonderful guy he is. So are you. Pretty amazing. Be safe and continue to make these amazing videos. 😊
Ron, you and your team are the best. Keep up the safe and outstanding work sir!
Great Job men alls well that ends well ! Great to see everyone working to get the job done and the lane frred up as quickly as possible ! 👍👍 to Ethan on top of his game there ! Course he had a good mentor !
Ron I’ve been towing for 22 years and I hate to see tow truck drivers injured I wish Indiana would let us do that here run code stay safe out in Missouri when I get a chance to visit you all I’d like to do that
You have an amazing team, thanks for sharing your videos
Hi Ron, this might be the last UA-cam video I'll be able to watch because UA-cam is now cracking down on ad blockers. So far, I'm not sure how to disable the blocker so I've tried to contact UA-cam to help me with this issue. If I can't get this fixed, I'll be extremely sad because I Love Your videos and everything about you and your channel...!!!
UA-cam doesn't care about viewers... other than the ad revenue they generated them, but they don't bother following the AUP for what is permitted for ads (don't get me started on how ads use specific frequencies to seem to be louder to our ears, bout not trip auto-leveling to reduce the volume), nor police the disinformation videos.
sometimes incognito mode works to watch videos... or changing the URL a bit...
It's an arms race between adblockers and youtube... and will continue till youtube decides to throw in the towel (or is legislated to do so, which is more likely). But that the blocker wish is run without a massive tech services can keep breaking it, gives me some happyness.
if on laptop/pc you should be able to click on the lil adblocker logo up on the top right of the screen. a lil list will appear with a slider for "enable/disable" on this website. make sure it's showing red instead of green. ad-blocker should then be turned off for youtube. thats how it worked on mine
Great job guys.. I know it's fun working on a bridge trying to hook up with traffic moving across. Lol. Stay safe.
Wow cant believe someone did something like that to cause a second crash! Once again great work ron, although i am surprised the tator still has that original siren on it, genuinely curious about the code 3 (hopefully this doesnt sound too repetitive)
Morons are a dime-a-dozen, these days. Actually, they're the only things going down in price, there are so many of 'em!
I might be misremembering but I think Ron bought the siren from a scrapyard and installed it in the shop. He also added the red and blue lights and a howler from an old firetruck.
In Missouri they are allowed to run red n blues and sirens upon authorization from highway patrol/dot. They are considered an Emergency service only within the state of Missouri. Where they are located they are not far from Illinois state border and are only allowed to run Amber lights and no sirens there.

As you know better than most, the Simplest Job can be the most Dangerous Job due to location and dealing with an unpredictable traffic flow. Safety First is Job One. Stay safe to all at M T.
Love the Tow Mater (From the movie Cars) sitting on the dashboard. Nice touch.
Brother as a fellow tow truck driver we are all first responders! Don't let anyone ever tell you different. We still have to respond to the scene when we are called
And many things you see you cannot un-see. Stay safe, Brother.
Every state should allow code 3 for all heavy dutie tow trucks
Experience counts, good job your fit to crawl under vehicles God bless you both 🙏👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🇬🇧
your boy doing just fine he's come a long way Ron be happy In knowing you have been a good dad
Great job! That’s some serious height. I hate that feeling when you’re stuck on a bridge or overpasses and you feel it moving up and down 😂
Awesome video... glad you're all safe...!
Breakdowns are probably the worst for tow operators as they get less traffic blockage help vs recoveries where they have fire department to help block for them, or have parts shut down. When I needed a tow, I always try to keep our tow company in mind on where I stop, all because I watch Ron's videos.
I know International trucks have quick couples on their tanks. I used to drive an International truck and it's one of the things I checked for. I guess their mechanic took it off? I agree about being able to use lights and sirens for tow trucks. It should be universal.
I understand kinda of what u guys do I was mainly driving the fire trucks or flagging traffic because where I used 2 live in Williams Oregon it was only a 2 very narrow lanes in most places
Love ur new arrow bar on ur pickup!
Looks like u almost need a second arrow bar on the tailgate as well. People are either looking or they aren’t looking.
had to close my eyes when you looked down over the wall im scared of heights
Ron, Nice, smooth job. I hate it when my vehicle stops for no apparent reason...Grrr
Good morning Ron from Medford Oregon 🌞
Nice Peterbilt Ron Pratt please stay safe out there God bless u and your family
Even after having lived in Missouri years ago, and having traveled through the state many times since, were it not for your videos, I would not have known that recovery vehicles are recognized as emergency services in the state. I can't recall a time in all my time there that I've seen (or heard) a tow vehicle running code. At the same time, it makes so much sense, that now having seen your videos and explanations, I wonder why they aren't everywhere. Do you know if they are in other places?
Good work as always and thank you for your work.
Great job..... cool trooper ..... Thank you again for sharing
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK AND GOD BLESS YOU RON
It seems so strange to see this today. Oregon is one of those states where tow and recovery vehicles do not respond code. A tanker full of nitrogen rolled over on I-5, blocking all southbound traffic. (I don't think anyone was injured). A DOT Incident Response truck instead gave a code 3 escort to 2 heavy wreckers from Grants Pass to the scene, about 15 miles away. Now THAT was cool to see.
Looking over that bridge railing makes me nervous. I hate heights now. Alex isn't yet.
Ron, I do occasionally watch other You Tube channels, but without a doubt, yours is the most genuine channel out there. I always look forward to Fridays for another episode of action around Scott City. Your vids are always interesting and a pleasure to watch. You and your team work very hard and thanks for sharing your job with us. Best Wishes and Stay Safe, y’all. Roy W Nantwich UK
Just watched your video explaining the statutes. It makes complete sense. There’s no real difference between a wrecker and a fire appliance when responding to an emergency call.
I'm new and addicted to your channel 😂 great job.
I used to run lights on horn blasting also to get to serious accidents up in northeast when I worked for towing and recovery a couple years ago
I know it's usually not good when running code in tator but they are my fav videos
These Code 3 (lights and sirens) runs are the reason you almost never have a crash back up except for the rubbernecking.
Wish ALL states would do this.
And Ron, jist curious ummm why is there a Sheriffs Pffice Badge Watermark in bottom right corner of video? Or am I the only one seeing it?
Wow a recovery truck running code 3 to the scene, how I wish ours could do that, sure beats having to stand for an hour in a live lane with traffic coming at you. Hell most of the time I can’t even get permission to allow them to run the hard shoulder to my scenes. Just got to stand and wait while they sit in the stationary traffic. 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
Ohhhh yeah...your getting better dude❤
I heard you ask, but I never saw any safety blocks under the steer tires. I realize the importance of getting out of the way quickly, but I’m going to modify a quote from my electrical apprentice instructor from decades past. There’s old wrecker drivers and bold wrecker drivers. But there’s damn few old bold wrecker drivers. Safety trumps time constraints always.
Well said. You are correct. Safety should always be priority. Sometimes, in the rush, seemingly small things get missed. However, it wouldn't be a small thing should someone get crushed. Thanks for watching and God bless.
Be safe and well wishes to everyone
Very nice work thanks for your time looking good all of you 👍👍👍👍👍☺️
Before jaws, etc. the wrecker crews did a lot of extrication. Many lives saves by you guys.
Hey Ron, I see your 'check engine' light is on, hope the tator is in good health.
Just another thing, I noticed you asked the lads to put wood blocks underneath the tires whilst you were working under the truck and that was never attended to. Just keep safe you guys💪
good job Ron and Crew
