You are on the scene for a short video of the aftermath and cleanup from a fatal crash involving 50-60 vehicles. on Interstate 81 at the Northbound 116 Exit(Minersville).
State Police would not allow me to get any closer (Hence the shortness) than I got to the scene ... Cleanup could take a day or two more. There is a detour in place around the accident site.
God Bless the victims and their family's as well as all the injured people.
Also the First Responders who put their life on the line to assist people in need.

Sad...I'm retired from trucking, 27 years. I survived, avoided pile ups and many other things. I saw them coming (the wrecks).

Congrats on the 27 ... I have 40 in and I shudder when thinking about the bad things I've seen out there ...

That happened while I was at work. Only 6 people lost their lives in that mess. So greatful to the First Responders to get there so fast once the first call went out. Snow Squalls are very dangerous.

the dumbest thing i saw was a video of people getting out of their vehicles and standing there, until the next vehicle came crashing in

I dreaded getting toned out for that but my tones dropped around 6-7 pm for additional fire police assistance by the Lavelle Fire Company

When cellphone came around,it actually changed trucking. Some for the best and some not so good. Nobody runs with there CB on anymore and for a trucker that is like driving at night, with no headlights on.You used to be able to grab your mic and let other truckers know about what is happening ahead of them, letting them know to back out of it.it’s crazy,I don’t get ,but that’s trucking now.

I totally agree ... I use my CB every day ... Integral part of my trucking life ...

It all started with people being stupid to dumb to pull over and wait I'm so sick and tired of everybody always in a big hurry to go nowhere. They really need to put governers on cars and trucks.

    • @FDNY8231
      @FDNY8231  2 роки тому +4

They DO have governors on most trucks, however that doesn't help in these conditions when you need to be WAY slower

No offense Lisa, but I don't think it's possible to obtain a CDL or regular Class 3 license on a computer ... A lot of different things caused this accident I don't think this is one of them.

The snow started it ... BUT My belief is some people may have been traveling too fast for the conditions present.

@@FDNY8231 especially when you see that in cab cam from one of the trucks. It ran into the back of the propane trailer you see in this video, and you get to watch a dude dive for his life.
      Channel "American truck drivers"
Video "Dashcam of 50-cars and trucks pile-up on I-81 N and Rt 901"
There was already smoke in the air then and that was early in the crash sequence.
The second clip in this video, when you see vehicles come to a stationary stop instantly thats when its damaging humans. Is the Green trailer in this clip the one with the Blue cab that you show being towed in this video at 2:45? It was a very abrupt stop and looking at that mangled cabin that is barely survivable.
Right after that in that second clip you see a SUV come to a similar "abrupt" halt lucky it was not the drivers side and an airbag may help.
But the way the next three four trucks in quick succession just slam, one after the other, speed (to conditions) were not the only thing done wrong here.
The third clip in the video i link has the tow truck from "Hammers" 24 hr towing the same company as that above that hauling the blue cab; out of control during the actual crash. Its not the same tow truck but same company.
You know there is some very special ice or something when even the recovery tow truck is out of control in the same incident.
