Getting mine next wednesday. Its currently in the showroom awaiting registration. I wish the dept of environment worked the weekend, I'd probably have it tomorrow 👍
Got mine 1 month ago. I love passing my time driving it and under it to make her as good as new. Im not a mechanic but youtube is full on DIY video for this car. Get one. NA best years!
your better off with a NB if you dont mine not having the pop up lights.. most of them are beat up, rust bucket by now.. might as well get a 240 or a 3 series and drift it.
I finally have permission from Ms SMB to get my Miata. Had an RX-7 decades and can't wait for the hardtop MX-5. A buddy got one with all the bells and whistles.
+Fintan yes i agree with you, rotary power is amazing but the only trouble of rx7 rotary engine is when it needed to do the service of internal parts and the complication of tuning the throttle body air intake.
Proof that you don't need to get an Aston Martin to be James Bond. This agile, compact-but-bold newest member of Eunos family is 'man' enough to do the trick...
does this system influence the weight and drive of the car at all? or is it the same as the soft top? I was gonna get the current mx-5 but damn is this thing sexy
+Jake Methner In this case it is a targa because there is not enough room in the back for the whole top. Mazda designed the MX-5 all around light weight, so the PRHT did not have priority I think.
+Jake Methner Because there isn't enough room in the ND to stow a full convertible hardtop like in the NC, so this is the next best thing. Also, it looks badass, soooo....
+Mutation666 Because they weren't the first ones to do it. Porsche was back in 1966. It is literally a trademark of Porsche AG. They're protecting their asses. "Porsche, the Porsche marque, 911, Spyder, Carrera, Targa, Boxster, Cayman, Cayenne, Panamera, Tiptronic and Tequipment are registered trademarks of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG." - www.porsche.com/international/legal-notice/
They're really completely different cars. The Miata is great for sharp turns on windy roads, but the Challenger excels in raw power down straight paths.
+emacs My problem is o used to own an NB Miata and i drove a challenger extensively over a year. They were both awesome cars. I'm still a year or two away from getting one (need to pay off my wife's car first) and have been having such a hard time deciding. I'll definitely be doing a couple more test drives when the time comes.
Almost good coverage, except they name drop the 911 for no good reason. Porsche coined that term, but they were not the first to implement it. Is Porsche going to be their automotive equivalent to Apple? haha
Come on Mazda....seriously? People have been asking for a full hard top Miata...and you give us this heavy ass electric targa top that is going to cost a fortune.
There wont be a fixed roof Miata, maybe Mazda will make it and call it a different name but won't be called a Miata as it will lose its roadster title.
This version is not gonna be cheap I'm looking at a club edition with the BBS wheels and Brembo package and the stickers nearly 34,000 . I'm going to guess that this cars easily gonna be 37,000+
$30k-$40k? this guy has no idea what he is talking about. MAYBE if you completely spec one out and get a limited edition you might get into the low to mid 30's but there is no way Mazda will sell these for 40k. If they do they better have a good reason for it costing so much such as a decently powerfull turbo 4 like the older speed3's had.
The whole roof assembly would be that reason. That kind of mechanical assembly does not come cheap. If they did it properly in the spirit of the car and just made it a manually removable panel then I'd agree with you at that point.
illitero while it is true that it will deffinitly add to the cost, it is not going to make up for a $10k-$15k hike in price. These cars start out at $24k and go up to $27k for the more premium model not counting the 25th anniversary edition which is only expensive because of the exclusivity.
There's no information on manufacturing numbers or options loadouts, so it could very well be cutting it close. I mean, I'm not HOPING it costs that much, haha. This is a pretty big stretch for Mazda in a few respects, so no doubt it's going to definitely be up there. But of course we'll see.
+Ben Dover How can you legally enjoy acceleration with 280 HP? You accelerate for two seconds, then you are too fast. This is for the real world, not for a race track or the Autobahn.
If you want a fast car you can get a used one for a lot less than the cars you mentioned. This isn't the point of the miata though, power != a good driving car. This is one of the best handeling cars, it's also light and people who've driven the ecoboost mustang say the miata is about as fast.
+SPIDER MANN Why would anyone want a people mover with a flux capacitor??? Nah! This with 2.5 turbo! Mazda please! Its easy, just put the 2.5 from the 3 slap on a turbo & BAMM! New MSM but this time the performance to match the looks! 250hp is all that's needed to make it a GTR giant killer & if not a little bit of tuning.
+MOORE_ELITE This isn't a convertible, this is a power retractable targa top. I see the appeal, but it's going to weigh a little more than the convertible and won't be as open, so I'd go with the normal MX-5.
+MH5tube Its nice but I'll wait for Coupe or Removable Hardtop like 1st & 2nd Gen with a bubble window as its much lighter, has better rear visibility, will be less expensive & more aero dynamic. Also IMO will look even better with the lines of the car. This is a Targa not a true Fastback so when the top is up it wont be very aero dynamic as the rear glass goes straight down rather then follow the fastback lines. It is however much better looking then previous PRHT.
BEATIFUL! Well done Mazda, well done.
Getting mine next wednesday. Its currently in the showroom awaiting registration. I wish the dept of environment worked the weekend, I'd probably have it tomorrow 👍
Didn't think the MX-5 could get any better - but it just did with the Targa top!
Still working on getting myself an NA MX5.
I feel you bro, on the same boat 😂👌🏼
Get it bro! Soooo much fun!
Got mine 1 month ago. I love passing my time driving it and under it to make her as good as new. Im not a mechanic but youtube is full on DIY video for this car. Get one. NA best years!

+Mouse Click thats sad:( where i live there is alot of them owned by old men and women never wonter driven.
I need this car.
+Denzel Garcia my mum has this and the mk 1, they are epic
I finally have permission from Ms SMB to get my Miata. Had an RX-7 decades and can't wait for the hardtop MX-5. A buddy got one with all the bells and whistles.
You guys are about to hit 1 Milion.
They hit the mark already ;)
That for some reason changes the whole look of the car... I love it!
Awesome. It looks amazing!
It has serious looks, serious handling, please, give it serious power!
Damn, mazda played the pipe down HARD
Getting this as soon as it becomes available
An absolutely perfect roadster.
The Miata, also known as the MX 5, is an alien. That's right a living, breathing alien from some world outside of our solar system.
CRX del Sol TransTop! About time somebody brought it back.
That's beautiful!
Side View: Wooooooow! Back: Dunno, have to get used to it maybe
All In ! Just have the Limited Slip put in the Grand Touring not just the Club
Do you think they will have this in red to? Just cant see a red version myself and thats my favourite
It will come in soul red, yes. There is a picture of it on mazdausa.com, and you can find some on google if you search for it.
Oh, almost at one million!
Triumph came out with the targa top design first on there tr sport cars.
omg I want it so badly it's so beautiful
Sweet design.
sold!
I hope they come up with a new rx7
Agree. +1
RX Vision
It's coming ;)
me too!
+Mike Ennamorato Lets hope not too much of the RXV design is lost....
What are the weight specs now that it has this top?
does this system influence the weight and drive of the car at all? or is it the same as the soft top? I was gonna get the current mx-5 but damn is this thing sexy
Damn that's one beautiful car. Not that I'm not happy with my 2007 ragtop though :p
Anybody notice his jacket has "CES 2015" written on it? lol
the del sol was doin that back in 1992
+Trippsol except this walks all over the del sol which I did like
Isn't the point of a targa roof to be easy to manually take off? Why would you want it to be basically a convertible but not entirely?
+Jake Methner In this case it is a targa because there is not enough room in the back for the whole top. Mazda designed the MX-5 all around light weight, so the PRHT did not have priority I think.
+Jake Methner Because there isn't enough room in the ND to stow a full convertible hardtop like in the NC, so this is the next best thing. Also, it looks badass, soooo....
lol no mention of the supra for targa or corvette
+Mutation666 Because they weren't the first ones to do it. Porsche was back in 1966. It is literally a trademark of Porsche AG. They're protecting their asses.

Never said they were the first but thats one of the most iconic targa's IMO
They're also probably the only targa tops I've seen in action in the states, you're right.
When is it for sale?
February
Well. I know what I'm getting once I pay off my NA.
your paying off an NA? your kidding right:?
Mouse Click I'm sure not. Didn't have 4500 sitting around when I bought it. 75 k plus a hardtop no rust.
Mazdas are dope.
I'm not sold on the RF. If I want a 4cyl automatic hard top convertible, I think a used SLK230 is a better deal than this
Mazda is really making it hard for me to decide between a challenger and an MX-5 as my next car.
They're really completely different cars. The Miata is great for sharp turns on windy roads, but the Challenger excels in raw power down straight paths.
+emacs My problem is o used to own an NB Miata and i drove a challenger extensively over a year. They were both awesome cars. what colour is this?
What color is this?
oh god....I knew i was in neckbeard territory when i saw Vape, VR, Miata's on same homepage.
Almost good coverage, except they name drop the 911 for no good reason. Porsche coined that term, but they were not the first to implement it. Is Porsche going to be their automotive equivalent to Apple? haha
Apple makes cars?
Son Goli ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
...
so...where's the new Rx-7? just kinda waiting here
Mazda killing it
I think I'll wait until it's under 5k like the MX5 of ol'.
華麗なる車。
Before its a hairdresser. Now it looks abit like a lotus Elise
I thought it was a coupe from the thumbnail but a targa makes more sense- why the hell would you buy a Miata coupe? Almost defeats the purpose.
Ces 2015 top ?
Prefer soft top, something about it looks too bulky and weird, the engineering is amazing on that top tho
Look awesome!!!
What a car!
20 second ad, really?

+dill doe na, I think this will sticker around 34, since the brembo stuff on the club actually ends up being more than the GT miata
Sticker price is about $3-4k above the soft top club and gt price.
When I wanna pretend that I'm a big shot, this car is a go-to car
It's still a great car.
maybe when they are 10grand I will buy one for a project car.
+yes sir who the fuck is gonna spend 30-40k on a miata god damn
I need one but the 124 spyder is still very tempting
I'm right there with ya I'll definitely keep my fingers crossed that these depreciate and a tremendous rate
TA P probably a lotus would be a better buy.
+FuLLeFFekT1 a man can dream can't he
awesome
Now put a turbo on it and make 1 million sales
cant wait for the ls swap for it.
But how much does it weight
2133 pounds the standard model if I remember right, then I don't thing that hardtop weights much
+CeeDee Player Usually retractable hard tops weigh a lot, but Mazda's all about saving weight with the miata so I'm pretty curious
+Hadi Abbas
yup, that's what I'm looking forward to know too

+bob345 the loaded club edition has a sticker of 33 thousand plus so I can easily see this car being north of 35,000
Bob is right, they ended up making it a $3-4k premium offering only club and GT tiers. That put the GT RF around $35k
124 spider is shaking
I want it soooo bad
Need a 7 seater hardtop.
Would be cool if it weighed LESS. I suppose that's really not possible though. :/
I was going to buy MX-5 soft top in this summer. But........I stop.
PLEASE CREATE MORE DESIRE IN PEOPLE!!! THEY NEED ALL THAT SHIT, EVEN IF THEY DON'T KNOW IT YET!!!
Fuck 160hp or whatever this thing has, it needs like 280hp
+Ben Dover How can you legally enjoy acceleration with 280 HP? You accelerate for two seconds, then you are too fast. This is for the real world, not for a race track or the Autobahn.
+xyzphyl You don't, but who gives a shit? Just don't accelerate around police. 160hp is extremely underwhelming
I normal hardtop convertible looks better. The car looks great though!
Damn, lower that thing.. NOW! Looks fab though.
Guys how much is this car? Thanks!(:
Should be $3-4k above normal US prices. Prices are out in Canada and UK already, I believe.
beautiful ,a muscle car.
DOPPPPEEE!!!
Take my money
Cute
👍 👍 👍 👍
Would have much rather had a regular hardtop or manual targa. What a waste of weight!
Being topless is half the reason of owning a Miata.
Shut up & take my money!
HOT
MAZDAおめでとう

35k? What a fuckin joke. For a small four banger with basic components. Why not get a mustang GT for the same price? Or a used BMW M3?

Or you can just spend an additional $40+ and get a Nissan GT-R.

+Johsiah Luciano LOL!
Not worth 30-40k that's for damn sure
+Tyler Peacock 30 K wouldn't be bad 40s out of the question
braaaap sutututu v
Sharia Pepe ik it's just a joke
I usually do it to slow cars
second...
ehh, I'd rather have the proper convertible
if a hard top convertible isn't proper what is?
+MOORE_ELITE This isn't a convertible, this is a power retractable targa top.

+Kupo969 what did you expect a toyota or maybe a lambo?
And that's what matters most.
slow
I'm sorry but that's far from gorgeous.
