Rhaeny’s children and grandchildren are Rhaenyra’s cousins as well because Rhaenys was her cousin, so, of course she cares for her family. She even wanted to give pardons to her Hightower siblings from King Viserys because she felt that they were given bad counsel by Otto Hightower.
This is a tragic story, made even more devastating by the fact that a family is destroying itself over a conflict that could have been settled without such a heartbreaking outcome.
@@ShaiShai1 By the time the suggestion was put out there she wasn't engaged to Laenor, Viserys just put a stop to the idea because of the age difference (also seemed like he might have been against an incest marriage despite previously being married to his first cousin and he himself being a product of incest).

Like she wants to show her affection but either doesn't know how to (since she's not her daughter, and Baela herself puts distance between them) or doesn't want to get too attached to Baela to then lose her as well
I think it is Rhaenyra respecting the boundary. Remember, she too lost her mother young. I think Rhaenyra does love both girls, but Baela is a bit more like her father and grandmother....she's outwardly tough.
I still don't understand why Rhaenys didn't have a proper funeral... Even the twins and Luke without a body to mourn had a funeral, but not Rhaenys... 🙈

It's cuz there were a few very crucial differences. Firstly, Meleys' former rider had died YEARS prior. While no one has a "right" to a dragon, so theoretically Vhagar was "up for grabs", it's in very poor taste to try to claim a dragon literally on the night of its rider's funeral. Aemond was a kid so I don't necessarily blame him for that, but also you similarly can't really blame Laena's daughters for being pissed about it. And secondly, we can discern from Rhaenyra's story here that Daemon had tried to claim Meleys but Meleys wasn't interested in him... indicating he was first given an opportunity to claim his mom's dragon BEFORE Rhaenys had a shot. And thirdly, most obviously, it's just the nature of the familial relationship at the time. Rhaenyra literally says that Daemon WAS mad here, and if the state of their family's relationship was like the greens vs. blacks at that point, I'm sure the event would have been treated as more serious and Daemon's "faction" would have been furious with Rhaenys.
