When things like this happen, you have the responsibility to nip it in the bud immediately. If you choose not to it will continue to escalate. Been there before with these workplace bullies, but I was this woman’s supervisor and I went to management and they were no help. Had to leave that department.
I'd lose my job before I had to cope with a difficult employee. No one should have to put up with their crap and if they try bullying me, I'd cuss them out.
I've been in the reverse situation. Corporate forced our business to create a lead position for our team none of us wanted it but since I was the lowest seniority I was told I would be let go to hire an external person lead lead if no one accepted. So I ended up accepting (we were in the middle of buying a home). Even though no one else wanted it several people really pushed back when I started doing my new job, ensuring they did theirs within compliance, including moving things to hard to reach places and in ways that were damaging our office supplies and it took time out of the day to fix. Luckily I got a chance to leave.
I would tell my boss “it’s either me or her and if it’s her I quit”. Wouldn’t hurt throwing a ultimatum, just make sure you are out working her at the time of the ultimatum and be kind at the same time
He’s exactly right! I dealt with the same type of older woman. I was extra supportive, kind and one day, I even brought her a bouquet of flowers for her desk. She did a complete 180 and our relationship was wonderful after that. 😊 When people behave like that, it’s because it’s out of fear.
Myra, don't worry about it. Just move on. It's the offices loss. This lady's negative attitude is probably a big contributor to her original cancer and her big C relapse. She won't make another year or two with a negative mindset anyway. Leave. You don't need the grief.

I rotate through several locations and this is the ONLY person in the whole company that speaks to me like this, so I am making the case that it's not me. So I rotate back to her department and again yesterday I get the accusatory tone about something. Since she is the lead at this location, I cannot simply go over her head with a complaint about her behavior. And if I ask to NOT rotate there, I will have to explain why and I am not good at making up stories. If I quit over one bad actor, I will have to pay back a huge sign on bonus and put my whole life in upheaval, not to mention the way it looks to quit a job in 90 days... anyone got any ideas??

In the words of Dalton from Roadhouse: Be nice, until it’s time to not be nice.
Poor communication over time leads to resentment which leads to an aggressive coworker or at the very least a coworker with a bad attitude.
