- Join us as we explore the ruins of the once stately and beautiful Westmoreland mansion in Danville, Kentucky. It was named for Westmoreland County in Virginia where Lawson Moore and his wife, Elizabeth Rochester were originally from before settling in Danville in 1798. His wife's family, the Rochesters, were a wealthy and prominent family in Virginia. By the time Elizabeth died in 1815, they had twelve children. Moore remarried after Elizabeth's death, to her sister; Jane Rochester.
I have been passing by this place for years and have always wanted to get a closer look at it. It has been abandoned for quite some time, and since the roof has given way, the rate of decay has rapidly increased. I'm honestly surprised that we didn't fall into the crawl space while we were exploring and filming. Even though this house is in such an advanced state of ruin, it is beautiful nonetheless. Its easy to imagine how incredible it must have been generations ago, when it served as a stately home of the prominent Danville, KY resident, Lawson Moore, and his large family.
ATTN : Do not trespass on this property or attempt to explore this house without permission.

Oh wow! I can't believe I found your video! Lawson Moore was my 5x great-grandfather! Thru his first wife! I often wondered if his house was still standing..and sad to see it in ruins. But it is awesome to see this video and realized this was the home of my ancestor! It would be neat to find an old bottle or old coin from his time!
that is so awesome!
To think they built these lovely homes themselves. Now we have so mucn with so little effort. These were hardworking people and they are to be commended. Love the music ....as I am 70 years old now, I remember my parents listening to similar music. Nice video.
Even at this state of decay you can still see what was once, a majestic beauty. The music is wonderful, I love all kinds of music, and it was so simple back then. Thank you so much.
Love this music. Reminds me of my folks and Grandmother.
This looks REALLY DANGEROUS!!!! I think it's a GOOD IDEA when they actually TEAR some of these places down! TOO MANY HAZARDS!!!!
This was no doubt a beautiful home at one time. I was amazed at the interior walls, they looked like sandstone bricks with plaster over them. A lot of memories within those decaying walls. Thank you for another great video.
Your video is superb in narration and filming thanks!
I love your work. You're a true artist!
I enjoyed this video very much....thanks again.

+Anne Gable Thank you Anne, very much!
Love the music at the introductions of your videos
Enjoyed watching your video. I liked the shot of the sun dancing thru the holes in the roof. Great work
Thank you! That is mine also.. I can never pass up the sun through a roof :)
He built another antebellum style house in Independence, MO. During the Civil War, it was used as a field hospital. It’s a private residence now. Still beautiful! Apparently there are soldiers buried near the old barn and in the front yard. Look up the Battle of the Little Blue and Shelby’s hospital for more information.
Wonderful documentary. Thanks very much.

+Kentucky Urbex quite fitting to have the Ink spots singing while the beginning of the video is playing well done, (shhhh say nothing but I was singing along lol) I am not that old but I used to listen to this when I would go to my nana's house, thanks for the upload, keep on trucking my friend, nice video's and by the way, I'm not that old lol
Excellent video. See house is beyond repair, sad to give up history like that..
+ndog2005 Thanks a lot, yes its very sad I agree
Once water starts to deteriorate those home made and fired bricks, a structure's time is limited. That's why keeping a good roof on these places is the most important thing.
