  • Tonight was a scary night.
    I came across a bunch of storm debris and the power was out at two sections of the road during my bike ride. It can be dangerous riding in the dark on the road after a storm. You need to be especially careful of sticks, fallen trees, downed power lines, etc.
    It was sprinkling rain at the beginning of the video, and then let up, and then there was a heavy downpour near the end of the video.
    Before heading out I had pizza for dinner, and I think I didn't wait long enough before jumping on the bike so my stomach was still trying to settle throughout the ride.
    One thing I forgot to do before going out was to charge my flashlight, so I think it began to dim slowly. I will be upgrading to a brighter light, so stay tuned.
    Video about my flashlight here

    This kind of filming style of yours is the best, where the camera is around your chest and we can see your arms and you commentate while riding. Keep doing these kinds of videos !

      GodsChaingun I agree, watching BikeBlogger ride is almost like watching a computer game. All he needs is a UI on the screen showing speed and heart rate or sommething :)

    Thanks for sharing. I really like to ride a bike at night with rain, and now I cant,. so this video brought me that feeling.

    This is a really cool idea for a channel! You should encourage some of your viewers to suggest topics that you could talk about while filming the video, I think that would maybe help you grow! Regardless, great channel!

    Another great video, I am amazed at the amount of bike lanes you have. The UK is not so well served I'm afraid. Cycling on our roads is not a pleasant experience.

    before a wet ride, try applying toothpaste on your glasses and rinse them until it's clear so it wont fog (from the inside). :)

    • @BikeBlogger

      ***** Good tip, Noel Fonseca! Some other tips I picked up from swimming with goggles... dishwashing soap or baby shampoo, place a drop on each lense, don't let it bubble, rinse well but do not jet the water over the lense, let it air dry and avoid using your fingers because you may remove the film that prevents the fogging. Another less effective option is your own spit/saliva. And if you buy a specific product to repel water like Rain X make sure you get the right version for your glasses, for instance, original Rain X is for glass, Rain X Plastic Water Repellent is specifically for plastic/polycarbonate glasses. Other anti fog products worth checking out include Jaws and Cat Crap. I have no experience with any of these products but I thought I'd let people know they're out there. I would be careful either way though because some glasses may already have some protective film and you could risk removing it.

      BikeBlogger Well, just don't use all tips from swimmers.. Like whizzing on them before use ass that also apparently helps fogging issues hehe :)

    Night riding looks fun but I get paranoid because all the weirdos and bad people roam out in the streets during that time. If I had a permit to carry conceal, I wouldn't mind at all riding into the late night hours. I'd be nervous riding the lonely trails and back alley ways if I didn't carry a gun..... you just never know what lurks behind the next corner. Stay safe out there!

      This was one of my old lights. I think it was 400 lumens. I recommend at least this much to see while riding.

    Think you can do a video on not getting to work sweaty and smelly. My commute to work is 10 miles and i only ride home from work atm because i dont want to get to work all nasty lol. I heard taking time to cool down(slow down heart rate) prior to getting off your bike a few km away from the job helps, since it seems i only feel like im starting to sweat after i stop, as well as changing as soon as you have cooled down.

      Krevra I'll add it to my list, Krevra. Maybe I'll try to control my need for speed and ride slowly one day to work too. :) Those are good suggestions and I do agree with ya.

    What light are you using, if you don't mind me asking? I've just got back into biking (I'm so out of shape), and have limited my riding to a local parks paved trails for now. Once I get my legs back into shape, then I'll do some more advanced riding. Anyway, I have some red tail-lights, a small flashing red light on the back of my helmet... and now I'm looking at veracious headlights, and I'll get a flashlight mount to use as a backup... I ALWAYS have a an EDC Flashlight on me. I'm looking at the Bright Eye light on Amazon and the the Solarstorm lights... something not to expensive but good, and something I can run that will light my way be not be too overly bright. I much prefer biking at night... it cooler, there is usually less people and cars to deal with, etc. I've been checking out your video and find them enjoyable, and have subscribe. All my best...

      Thank you. I was an avid biker growing up, through high school, collage and until about 32. My friend and I twice road in a Bike-a-thon from New Jersey to Florida (1979 & 1980), and we often did 80+ mile round-trips during our Summer breaks from school from Trenton, N.J. to the Jersey Shore... or we were 10 to 20 mile on more local trips 2 or 3 days a week, and I road to and from work almost daily. Most of which was all done on an 1972 Sears Free Spirt 10-seed my parents bought me for Christmas to replace my Schwinn Continental 10-speed that I bought with some of my savings from money I made with my paper route.
      I'm now 55 and out of shape with back issues from an auto accident and a fall from a tree a few years back while installing an owl nesting box (I'm a wildlife researcher).
      I now have a dedicated bike headlight with battery pack, but also want to mount a flashlight bracket to mount on of my many flashlights in to have a backup light, and for my long rides in wilderness areas in the New Jersey Pine Barrens rather then having to stop and change battery packs... and thought not a frequent, lights can fail, break or fall off. Your set up gave me the idea.
      FYI... I’ve been watching your videos which give me inspiration.
      All my best... and thanks again.

      ***** Hello, kevin o, the light is a Fenix UC40 UE. The setting used in the video was 400 lumens but I forgot to charge it before I left so I think it dimmed during the ride. I have brighter headlights now described in the video here ua-cam.com/video/y8L3jecwc1I/v-deo.html

    so can you pick up groceries or pizza on a bike?

    • @BikeBlogger
      @BikeBlogger  9 років тому

      +Icy bubba Sure you can, Icy bubba. A bike rack with bungee cords and a container is good for that. Pannier bags are also very nice for that. Or you can use a backpack for smaller hauls. I described some other ideas in this video here ua-cam.com/video/yEn8YWYJaCY/v-deo.html

      BikeBlogger Thank You! I am not quite old enough to drive or ride a motorcycle or whatever so Bicycles is something cool because you can go on the road on them without a license. It is kind of embarrassing that I don't know how to ride a bike yet, balance is my issue. :/

    • @BikeBlogger
      @BikeBlogger  9 років тому +2

      +Icy bubba Nothing wrong with that, never too late to learn. I know people who can't ride bikes, swim, ice skate, etc. I got a drivers license but choose to ride my bike most of the time instead, it's healthier and more fun I think.

    • @Icybubba
