The spinning wheel - unlocks the next level of armor. You will need even more iron.....
Good fight ! I’m glad you discovered your shield. Well, the sunny, peaceful plains awaits.
I think you should use more primary attacks and get multiple attacks in rather than one secondary attack. You can at least get two faster primary attacks, sometimes three for higher damage. The secondary attack is so slow.
AI Overview
In Valheim, for optimal damage output with a sword, it's generally better to use the full chain of three regular attacks rather than just one secondary attack, as the secondary attack usually deals significantly less damage per stamina spent and is primarily useful for specific situations like backstabs or staggering enemies.
Key points about sword attacks in Valheim:
Full attack chain: Most swords have a three-hit combo where the final hit deals the most damage, so performing all three attacks maximizes your DPS.
Secondary attack drawbacks: While secondary attacks can sometimes deal high damage on a single hit, they often consume a large amount of stamina relative to the damage output, making them less efficient for sustained combat.
Situational use of secondary attacks: Use the secondary attack when you need a powerful single hit, like when attempting a backstab or when facing a single, large enemy that can be easily staggered.
The Drauger fang adds some poison damage to any arrow it fires. Most of the stuff you build with the Artisan table(at least for now) are used in processing stuff from Plains resources. So, it's on to the Plains! The wooden missile won't have a use until the biome after that.
Congrats on the Moder win Caster 🎉🎉 That was a pretty text book take down! And now all you have to do is the Plains… easy! 🤣🤣👍👍
Great job on getting your stuff back. Great fight! The draugr fang adds poison. Congratulations Caster!! Yes those are tamable but very tough!! There are a few ways to tame them but make sure you are more prepared to fight them. You can get surtling core from the surtlings (the fire creatures in the swamp). If you "farm" those it gets you more cores than the crypts. Windmills process the next biome's farm crops. Thank you for the video!!
Nice fight! Good to see you controlling the battlefield and not just running. Controlling the battlefield can be key to many fights - like “You are being hunted”
Good job! You have killed the Mother. I hope the Father doesn't find out. Lol!
Also, now you can make a Plains base. What fun!
Just a heads up, as the game progresses, it will take you further south, so try to prioritise that as the direction to head in.
Grats bud, well done for sticking at it. There is so much reward and satisfaction in this game. Its well worth the battle. Onwards and upwards. It should be ‘plains’ sailing from here on 🤣
Spinning Wheel - Get plenty of iron as once you get flax, iron will be the next ingredient to go along with what is produced from the spinning wheel. You will unlock that by going to Fuling camps.
Mad respect taking on Moder alone, Plains is the next biome to explore! But take your time exploring this biome before you take on it's boss :)
I'd recommend you hoard as much materials as you can, expand the farm etc, good luck!
Lox - Tough creatures to fight. Their stomp attack is brutal. They can be trained with Barley or Cloudberries. Once trained, keep them protected from the Deathsquitoes. They are mortal enenmies of Blob Tars also found in the plains. They will crush through a stone wall in a couple hits.
Congratulations!! What a fantastic turn around, Caster!!! I've experienced the first battle you had with Moder, and it was humbling. Nothing like a good comeback story, which you definitely had. On to all the fun, and challenges the Plains hold. Looking forward to all your upcoming adventures!! 😃
Well done, Caster! I'm enjoying watching you adapt and make progress, and I'm looking forward to seeing how you deal with the Plains now. They switch it up quite a bit there, and they'll switch it up even more once you get to the Mistlands. Some things, especially with respect to resource gathering, are going to be less important in the plains than they were in previous biomes and some things are going to be much more important than they have been so far.
Also, I've come to call the plains the "Mostlands" as it seems there's so, so many sections of plains scattered around Valheim, especially further out from the center, and it starts to feel like they're just *everywhere*.
On to Yagluth! (eventually.)
Congrats Caster!! that was a good fight!
Blocking is really essential in Valheim and you are getting the grasp of it.
A little tip : Whenever you block if you look closely there is a red vertical Bar appearing next to your character - this is the Stagger bar. when the bar fills up you will get stagger even if you blocked the incoming attack.
Bravo! Nice job. Yeah the Moder fight is really impacted by terrain, more so than any other boss fight. You had a pretty awkward location but the terrain modification did the trick. Its so satisfying to get the boss kills.
Moder == mother, so yeah it's a her :)
Good job! Moder is really not that scary, as long as you avoid her ice shard attack. In my last game her mountain was surrounded by Mistlands, so that was fun :)
Good job! You had her number after the initial panic! Make a fully upgraded root harnesk before you enter the plains!
Just to pile on with all the advise, I would recommend getting in the habit of loading up on food when you venture out instead of just taking 2 or 3 of any food item. Food is not heavy, so take whatever the maximum is of each food item for one slot in your inventory (10 of Onion Soup, 20 of the Wolf Jerky, 10 of Wolf Skewer as an example). My numbers may not be entirely correct for the items I listed, but you get the idea. This way you have plenty on you at all times. If whatever food you are carrying is one slot in your inventory, you might as well fill it all the way up! Yeah, you're going to have to take time out to build up your reserves of food by farming, but it's worth it to just grind it out and fill up your storage containers so you always have plenty of food available. You're doing great!
Nice victory there! I think the upgraded shield was the key...
Exploring the plains, you may consider wearing the root harnesk because of the piercing deathquitos.
You should also find a nice place for a little outpost there.
But before taking on fuling villages, I would recommend to upgrade your weapons first.
So have fun exploring the plains, there should be some nice progression ahead.😊
Good work! Preparation and knowledge is what you need...
Well Done on beating Moder!!!!! Great job right there. On a side note, Moder in Scandinavian or Norse means Mother ;) one of the few female bosses and the Ashlands boss is called Fader (Father) see any relation there ;) - Like Sarah4and10 said, the bow gives poison damage and if i am not mistaken so does the obsidian arrows, might want to check that in their stats though just to be sure. Tip for boss fights, keep an eye on your stam and health and keep the damage going on the boss, even if it is just a little at a time. My strat for Moder is when she is down and my health allows i go tank and when she is in the air i do ranged. Such a fun episode and glad you were able to recover from the previous episode. On brainheimS2 we had the misfortune to fight multiple (more than 6 i think) and that was hell for all of us, deathloops galore and all of us have been playing this game for a good while so you taking her solo and killer as fast as you did, hats off to ya :D - thx for the vid, looking forward to see what you get up to next. Tip on fighting the Lox's, as long as you can keep moving, even walking backwards while shooting them with bow you should be fine. They are a good source of food and the lox hides makes for fine decorating, looks fluffy lol. If you check the crafting tab more carefully the preperation table can be made as well as the kettle for potion brewin, unfortunately i could not see in your kitchen if you already have them therefore the mention. Place the Windmill in the plains (best winds and all)
Obsidian arrows don't add poison damage. But they're first class arrows and quite cheap to make.
Go back to trader Hildir on the Moder island. She has a table in front of her you can interact with to unlock some Quests!
Its also a good location to dip your toes into the Plains . . . if things get too spicy you can fall back to your portal or hide in Hildir's protective bubble!
Well deserved.
Deciding which tips will help you without giving away spoilers is difficult, but you'll miss out on a lot of the fun and satisfaction you could get from exploring the dangerous side of things on your own.
Don't target Moder's head because that is not a weak spot. Reportedly there may be a weak spot on the back or belly, but I am not convinced. The body and wings are certainly attackable and give good damage.
Mosquito
Hold block ( not parry)
When it strikes your sheild you have a second to attack.
It kills with one hit
It dies with one hit.
Bellows are fordge upgrade
Congrats well done, preparation is key in boss fights. Next Mosquito country, dont forget your root harnesk.
With the swords, do three normal attacks rather than one secondary attack - not only do you hit more quickly, but the third attack in the sequence does extra damage. Secondary attacks are all well and good but leave you vulnerable while you are winding them up. You could have finished the fight in half the time by using normal attacks rather than dancing around trying to get a good secondary attack in. (For reference, using the attack combo with blunt weapons is less effective though - blunt weapons push back the enemies more, so often the third attack will miss anyway.)
As for the crafting options - go for the oven first so you can start cooking food (from the Food Preparation table). The other items will become useful once you start getting resources from the next biome.
Chopping wood while fighting Moder is the ultimate macho flex.
I always cheat and dig a base under her summoning stone. And 200 obsidian arrows.
How much block and parry you can do is relative to the amount of health you have. When you got staggered through blocking its because your health was low.
