Through the course of my job, back in the early 2000s, I was in contact with Mr. Hawk somewhat often. I can truly say, I was never witness to any rudeness or egotism. He consistently seemed to be a genuinely nice family guy.

He's obviously a master level skateboarder, but as a result he also walks in the same circles as other master level skateboarders who specialize in other areas (like street skating, as that particular question was asking about). So to an average skateboarder he'd probably still come across as a demigod while skating out of his element, but he's going to be comparing himself to people who are on an even higher level at it.

I always respected how he stayed true to himself and who he really was as a person. I'm not insinuating that all other skaters weren't true to themselves but Tony was "different"
I was lucky enough to meet Tony at a skeevy dive bar in Detroit a few years back and he and his wife were some of the most lovely people I've ever met. I've been a huge fan since Pro Skater 3 so I was in absolute heaven.
