Bad Kane takes Phil. Peeps change. Raymond cites Kane's guidance as a factor in improving his game. You guys thinking he wouldn't re-up with the Wings jinxed him back to the Wings. Thanks from a Wings fan!
@@hockeycardsgongshow I won’t list all of them, because it’s more than 100. I will start with 93-94 only. 1. 1993-94 Fleer Ultra 2. 1993-94 Leaf Hockey 3. 1993-94 Donruss Hockey 4. 1993-94 Pinnacle 5. 1993-94 Topps Stadium Club 6. 1993-94 Parkhurst 7. 1993-94 Topps Premier 8. 1993-94 Upper Deck SP 9. 1993-94 Score 10. 1993-94 Classic
Great episode like usual boys! My only counter is grading cards. I was always in the boat with Phil and Troy….grading is overrated, real collectors don’t care about grading etc (until recently). Unfortunately my family isn’t into cards like I am, my kids want nothing to do with it (which is ok). Grading allows these cards one day to be sold a lot easier by them. They’re not going to sit there and try and figure out the value of raw vs graded. Collecting grading helps it being sold down the road.
I understand the Phil criticism. Do I agree? No. Phil is no BS, seemingly very honest, and dies on the hill he finds himself on. Love hearing his input on things
I have some of Barkov's grail cards up for sale and I've hardly had any offers before or after their Cup win. Florida's market is terrible, same goes for Tampa Bay too. MacKinnon gets lost in McDavids shadow and the fact the NHL has done a brutal job marketing him. He also get's lost in Makar's shadow too (since Makar is pacing to be anywhere from 1 to 3 all time best defensemen). MacKinnon is just at the wrong place in time unfortunately for him. I think if MacKinnon played for the Rangers/Leafs/Habs his hobby love would be vastly different. I like the Exquisite cards too because they harken back to 2003 same goes for the retro 96 PMG's. I see no difference in grading a patch card vs non patch card, makes little sense to me. Every card looks better raw than graded.
Florida has 2 basketball teams 2 NFL Teams 2 baseball teams and 2 hockey teams, thats alot of options for your sports card dollar. Colorado also has 3 sports teams bigger than hockey
I have a 2016/17 McDavid Artifacts patch auto, mint, I take it out of the 1 touch and it is gorgeous. It’s a ruby green number to eight. You can not see the beauty in that card when you have it in one touch. It looks like every other card in a one touch. When I take it out and let the light gleam off it. Wow, now I know why I paid a thousand bucks for it. In short, I agree 100% I have Auston Mathews, Futurewatch Futurewatch patch McDavid cup rookie Matthews cop Rookie, Gretzky rookie, none of them graded. I am a collector I bought the card not the grade.
Personally I think that the hockey card hobby can’t compared to NBA, NFL or MLB. We are just fraction of collectors to those groups and most of us are extremely knowledgeable about their hobby. We only have a handful of legends and only five important vintage rookie cards (Vezina, Howe, Orr, Gretzky, Lemieux). That’s why you rarely see any hype and only slow movement in prices, and that’s why only a few cards become insanely valuable. Bedard and McDavid prices are a deviation to that, mainly because I think lots of non-hockey card collectors heard about those two and started buying his cards.
I made 2.5x my money so far on buying pre-order Bedard boxes, tins and blasters. Not opening them and selling them at their peak is the best way to make money off sports cards...but only when a generational talent is the rookie
Nothing impacts the hobby more than when a player signs with or is traded to Montreal, Toronto or Vancouver (and to a lesser extent Calgary and Winnipeg). My sales skyrocket for any player in this scenario.
Phil is right on i love to feel of of my cards, and every card i get i want raw. If i do buy one that was graded / authenticated i crack it out. Free your cards enjoy the hobby and your cards not the plastic cases. Condition has gotten so out of hand.
re: player cards not increasing with a cup win in the last 2 years ... why would VGK fans invest in Eichel rookie cards in a Buffalo uni ... same for FLA Bob, Tkachuk, Bennet, Reinhart ... all in other unis ... yes Barkov is underrated but should there be a rush for Ekblad cards ... cup wins rarely are going to create new player collectors and most collectors want cards of players in their team's uni .... just one example of why the needle doesn't move not the only
The #1 thing that moves the hobby needle is performance, stats & individual awards. MacKinnons market is doing nothing right now only because it was obvious for months that he would be the MVP, in the past 6 months his stuff is up around 30%. It's not going to magically shoot up 25% the night of the awards.
Another massive factor is playing style, which is why guys like Datsyuk, Bure etc command massive prices. They played the game in a beautiful way, and their collectors regonize that and want to own a piece of it. Bure will out sell "Stanley Cup champion HOFers" like Yzerman, Sakic, Forsberg all day long.
Do you know who Connor Bedard outscored in rookie years? Connor McDavid..... Points in your rookie year is not a good stat to rank. That being said, I do think the Bedards are overvalued but more because of the number of cards/parallels/sets and (probably) because of the high print runs.
Understand your point. McDavid did have a higher PPG avg. than Bedard as he played in only 45 games with the collarbone injury. It's definitely not the end-all-be-all.
Really? How often has it been? We'll try to figure out how to turn it down. It's all UA-cam doing it's thing right now. Thank you for letting us know...we'll fix it
I hope you guys make 7 mill from this episode. Ive gotten an ad every 3 min so far lol
hahahaha....really? $7 is a lot closer than $7M. If it's too bad let us know and we'll see if there's an option to dial it back.
That’s weird I got maybe 1 or 2 at most.
Love seeing some Ottawa content on this show
We're happy you're enjoying!
Great dynamic with the 3 of you
Thank you! Glad you think it works.
Hey Troy, thrift stores in my city are loaded with hockey books dirt cheap, Im sure every city has them in the book area.

There’s sooooo many pre McDavid boxes that are underrated. So many.

oops...yes! Thanks for remiding us!

I got the Jonathan Quick Future Fame card and I think it's AWESOME! Unfortunately I don't PC any of the players in the checklist.

You're right that the top tier in the hobby is a pretty small list :)

I love how Phil just ripped Joshs datsyuk card apart

I wonder if there’s some fatigue in the hobby right now with the whole Bedard chase coming to the forefront?
There could be...not a bad thought!

I believe San Jose's 1st game is against Bedard
That should be fun!

I like adding playstyle as a factor...makes a lot of sense.
The odd Michigan doesn't hurt either....and looks also matter

Was that a drumroll or a motorboat 😅?
