- With the help of DNA technology, Glen McCurley was sentenced to life in prison after investigators tested a stain located on a piece of clothing belonging to 17-year-old Carla Walker, who was kidnapped and killed in 1974.

So horrible he was able to grow old and live his life a free man, walking out and about having taken the life of an innocent woman. Finally justice is served!
He lived a mile away. Most perps, live nearby. Education and teach stranger danger. But the family probably knew him
Typical male behaviour
It is horrific and sad. He lived his life, but the end will not be pretty. Also- for those who never get caught- I have to believe in divine justice...
But he is served years in the prison until the end of his life at this old age, which is a dream of so many older people who live solo in Japan.
@@Momo-qo7is I would not be object to the death penalty - even with someone in a wheel chair...call me callous- but he took a life on purpose in a horrific way...so his life should be forfeit.
They need to run Glen McCurley's DNA in connection to other cases in areas where he has lived. These guys usually do these things more than once.
I was thinking the same thing. I’m sure he has.
I agree, McCurley died in prison on July 15th of this year. So unfortunately his punishment was too short.
I’ve seen a couple of true crime videos on him. He most definitely killed many women throughout the 70’s and 80’s. It is known by police.
They cross reference. So if the sample from her clothing matches samples from another victim that will show up. They are comparing to known samples as well as unknown.
Especially when they getaway for so long 😢
The criminal had a nerve to live near the victims for 45yrs after he offed there daughter? How cruel and sick. Its so unfair he still gets to live. Rest easy sweet girl, you didn't deserve this
Yep dang shame. He probably murdered another girl too missing a year before Carla and left in similar locations. He described Carla as wearing different clothes to what investigators told him as if he was describing another girl

In the 70s we were told to not disobey adult, she probably was told to be sweet??
Fight back kids ! Yell bite kick and scream!!
We don't teach stranger danger anymore!
One mile?? From their house, they knew it was him. But law couldn't prove it!
Yes, she was 17, just a little girl. Why are they labeling her as a woman? She was a child, a teenager, not a legal adult.
She was a beautiful young woman not a little girl.
The perp was a suspect right after the killing, but was removed from the list after passing a polygraph. Polygraphs are very unreliable.
@@supportvawa2213though she was a child, she was not a little girl. She was a young woman/lady. They probably refer to her as a woman because she was a post pubescent girl, which in that sense makes her woman.
I'm sure there are alot of people scared to death waiting for that knock at the door because they thought back in the day they got away with killing someone that no one knew about.
I never thought of that. That’s very true.
Only if they gave up their DNA otherwise they will never be caught.
@rickhammond2473 OK well then I guess not then. I would think why would you if you know you've done something like that. That has to be true stupidity.
@@rickhammond2473, Not true. If anyone in their family did DNA test through 23AndMe or Ancestry DNA, they will be able to make the connection between the culprit and their family member. They caught one murderer because his first cousin had done a 23AndMe test. The DNA analysts were able to say, "There is a 99.99% probability that this DNA test-taker is first cousins with the murderer." Helped investigators narrow down the suspect list to a couple people.

Great news for black & brown people
I wonder how many other crimes he committed during his 50 years of being free.
There's a long article about this case on texasmonthly website, posted a year ago. It says that when he was arrested, he was also considered a person of interest in at least three other cases. The article lists twelve deaths that have similarities to Carla Walker's, but idk whether the police suspect him of all of them.
@@akinpaws thanks for the info
Yep, they’re pretty sure he was the killer behind a string of murders in the same area throughout the 70’s and 80’s
Carla can't be his only victim.
@@xennialasmrI wonder why he stopped from the 90s on!?
I don’t remember this case, but there’s another cold case from 1974 in Texas. Eighteen year old Cheryl Calloway was brutally stabbed with an ice pick 47 times. This happened on January 30, 1974 in the parking lot of a shopping mall in Arlington, Texas. I hope one day this will be solved. It’s possible the killer is already deceased, but for her family I still hope it is solved.
😱😳😭😢
That is horrific! Stabbed 47 times with an ice pick sounds like a crime of rage (I refuse to use the phrase 'passion'). It may have been someone that she knew and perhaps rejected. Or it could also have been just some random monster.
@@mysticalmargaret6105 I’m so with you Margaret and thoroughly: agree it’s a horror tale. That person acted as a monster, and was either generally insane, or had a vendetta. Either way it’s beyond comprehension. I also don’t like the word passion for these heinous crimes; yes, simple red blinded rage.
I think we need to solve these cases if we can even if the killer AND all family and friends of the victim are deceased. It’s just better to establish truth for public record
It may help you to know that the word passion has evolved over time to have 2 quite different meanings.
She looked so sweet and innocent. Evil is real. It sucks. So sad.
I'm so glad she's finally getting justice. 💛 May she continue to rest in peace. 🕊💫
I remember listening to a podcast about this months ago and I was so sad this wasn’t solved at the end. Carla and her bf were in the backseat of his car I believe. The bowling alley parking lot was kind of a “lovers lane” back in the day if you catch my drift. The door swung open and a gun was in the boyfriends face. He didn’t see the perpetrator. And I know the guilt he felt for the rest of his life. Rodney heard her screaming to go get her dad. He drove right up to her dads door basically parked in the front lawn after she was taken. I hope Rodney and Carla’s family can finally find some peace.
Ah yes, you’re reminding me that I’ve heard of this case, too. Sweet satisfaction seeing it solved.

I remember hearing this case! I felt so bad for the BF....dirty Oldman he has become.
When they found her she was still wearing her prom dress so sad
What a pretty girl she was, condolences to the family who never got to share that life with her!
It’s good to know that justice is finally served, but a real bummer that this monster got to live 50+ years off his life as a free man. Bittersweet.
No ...law enforcement was weak back then ...and they weak now
More bitter than sweet if you ask me
Because DNA didn’t exist
I keep hearing old cold cases are getting solved with new DNA techniques and familiar DNA is a huge advancement and has been the breakthrough that people have waited for.
My deepest condolences to Jim Walker and the rest of Carla's family! I'm glad Othram's technology solved who murdered her and that he was brought to justice! May Carla's law see nationwide support and may many more families be able to see justice done for their loved ones!
So sad that her parents never got justice, while they were still around. Just to see their daughter's perpetrator go down for this....😢
She was so beautiful. She made a major impact on her brother ❤ I'm so glad her case got solved.
The closure it will bring to so many heartbroken people is incredible! This is absolutely amazing! 👏👏👏

Some evil people love destroying other's beauty....
To some, beauty represents an ugliness to be destroyed.

This is an absolutely incredible use of science! Wow! Wonderful news; Peace may come to all who wait.

She was beautiful.
It's wonderful it's groups of people that will do work in solving these cases. That has to be one of the greatest achievements.
It's wonderful that the family finally got some closure. This science should be use to help prisoners that are wrongly accused of crimes, too. Getting down to the truth about who committed the crime is most important.
I'm working on the 1983 Cindy Bringhurst cold case from Pocatello, Idaho.
The "Ted Bundy" copycat serial killer who murdered young girls in South Eastern Idaho from the late 1970s to possibly the late 1980s.
The culprit is named Dennis Felsman, his brother Terry Felsman was the Pocatello police captain who investigated Cindy Bringhurst's disappearance in the Summer of 1983. Terry Felsman was also the person would find Cindy Bringhurst's body in the days following her kidnapping.
I'm very close to solving the case.
God Bless you. I know you will be successful. God wanted these unsolved cases to be solved. DNA is proof.
I wish you all best! Godspeed to your efforts, what a tremendous relief and peace this will bring to her family.
My brother was murdered at a homecoming game after party in 1978, funny all the witnesses and no suspects named. We are told the potential suspect became a cop in the same city it happened in so I’m sure first thing he did was get rid of evidence
Those of us who have been doing genealogy research is the reason this is becoming big. We all knew when from the beginning when companies started testing. We were the first that begin using this as part of our research. Law Enforcement learned had to be taught from those using this technology to find people. It was a game changer. We also knew that it would eventually become a tool widely used in solving cold cases, or foundlings (babies abandoned at birth).
And it will become standard. Some of y'all should be on pins and needles because you might be the next to get that knock at your door. And you all will be surprised who the real criminals are. These folks have families, jobs, even thought highly of, but are criminals living regular lives next door to you. Oh, and class isn't a factor, nor education. In fact, many have both in their background.
So true.
This is amazing for all the families who have suffered for decades.
So cool! I studied DNA in it's infancy.... Love to see it advance... Just gets better and better! ❤ RIP Princess
This is why I want to go into the forensic field I want to help families get answers for their lost loved ones 😔

And my condolences to Jim Walker!

A beautiful young woman with her entire life in front of her. RIP Carla.❤
I’m so happy this family received justice. I hope this helps additional families receive justice.
What happens in this life is one thing, what happens in the next life is a whole different story.
I think this way too. Cases like this remind me of the movie 'The Lovely Bones'. Everyone hates how it ended. But cases like this show that some people really walk away for long stretches of time. But im a firm believer in that we judge ourselves in the next life when we do harm here. He certainly will and that's the only justice that matters.
Horrendous crime. I would not surprised if her killer had other victims.
I would love to do this. I love genetics, I love history, love doing reseach, love building family trees and I am obsessed with crime shows. Genetic genealogy is also a great way to help people find their biological parents.
Ppl always say it’s messed up that these ppl get to live a full life … But really that’s way worse than going straight to jail in my opinion… reason being, these murderers have to live every single day wondering if today is gonna be the day they get caught & THAT IS STRESSFUL! Looking over your shoulder, watching everything you do so you dont slip up and get caught, the weight of knowing one day everybody will know what you did. It’s like the old saying goes no one can torture you more than your own mind… The longer they stay out the longer their mind plays tricks on them and that is torture!
Hopefully Carla can rest in peace knowing her murderer is identified now, and will pay with his life, in return for hers.
I hope all these disgusting men are freaking out, knowing more and more of these cases are being solved and their days are numbered
I am just so glad that the family has gotten justice and closure from this case that has been out for 5 decades and that this monster is locked up for life🙏

This makes me wonder about the Black Dahlia case. Will we ever know FOR SURE who killed her? (Supposedly a doctor.)
People don't realize that when you get your DNA run for ancestry that you are put in the system. This is fine if you don't have anything to hide. But, you may have a relative, close or otherwise, who will be in the system from a crime. This is awesome.
That sorry sob! I was 11 years old when this happened. Ill never forget always being afraid because of it. She was as pretty as an angel. Im thankful to God for the Walker family to get to finally have justice! Rest in peace dear Carla

I remember this case. The original police dropped the ball. They had the magazine from the Ruger pistol left by the perpetrator. While tracking down those guns in the area, he just lied and said he misplaced the gun and the investigator never pressed the issue. Glen McCurley should have been caught then and there and other girls would have been saved.

I agree.
Saw this case on the revival of Forensic Files, called Forensic Files II. The episode was "Last Dance". What a sad case. But I am glad that DNA caught up to the monster that committed the crime, albeit decades later, and unfair in that the perp got to live his life for close to 50 years. Prayers to Carla's brother.
So thankful that she has received justice. May Carla Rest In Eternal Heaven. God Bless. 🙏🏼
Deepest Condolences to family prayers RIP Angel she was beautiful
Is this the case where they actually used a polygraph test on the killer but it said he "passed"? The girl looks familiar but I'm not sure
Edit: I looked into it and yes it was this case. They apparently tracked him down a month after she was found by his guns magazine that had been left at the crime. Saddest part is, there were numerous murders of young women for years after, all strangled and their bodies found in similar areas. However, he never confessed to those murders but it is believed he committed them. If the cops didn't rely on the polygraph and arrested him then, who knows how many others would be alive. May they rest in peace.
I hope more cold cases are solved with continuing advancements in DNA technology.

The act specifies that at least $5M of the allocated $20M goes to forensic DNA analysis.
The rest can be used for "staffing, training, travel, equipment, or other related overhead expenses."
When someone is tugging on your heart strings, they are often tugging on your purse strings too.
For comparison, a non-profit is considered highly efficient if it reverses that ratio and spends 75% on direct programming and 25% on overhead.
Kinda feel like quoting Kurt Russell in "Tombstone" for all the Cold Case killers..." You tell em I'm comin' and Hell's Comin' with me!" - DNA doesn't lie!
You are not alone. It's not obviously just to solve crimes there's a lot of really cool stuff that you can learn from your DNA. As I'm sure you're more than aware.
What would be really cool is when DNA evidence connects current police officers with crimes before, during, and after their careers in law enforcement. I LOVE to see when Police go to Prison. : )
