Santee, having suffered from serious depression for years you have no idea how many of my days your channel made so much better - even if just for a few minutes to regain some energy and fun... Thank you so much for that, and keep on the great work - I love the AZ Ghostriders, man!!! 😍 😍 😍
Felix, that makes me feel just great. Thanks for sharing what the channel means to you.
That rifle looks awesome!
Also, I’m glad no T-rexes were harmed in the making of this video. LOL!
Me too. Boy was he angry. I took three chuck roasts just to calm him down.
Santee did you also scratch behind his ear and a belly rub?
@@alvinsanchez967 Of course. He needed it after that.
Sometimes one shot is all you need.
Hey Santee, what's with the 'odd' hours for uploading? You always seem to be up around 2-5am PT. Natural night owl?
Morning person. I try to get it uploaded by 5am.
I’m honestly really glad red dead exists, because without it I never would’ve gotten into the spirit of the west, and because I did I found this great channel!
yes!!!
I have 2 Shiloh Sharps rifles, a 50-70 and a 45-110 Quigley and absolutely love them. Although, there is a steep learning curve, to acquire the lost knowledge required to make these fine rifles shoot accurately.
Really? A steep learning curve? I didn't know.
@@ArizonaGhostriders Well, not you guys...my comment was aimed at those who were thinking of getting into firing these fine rifles, where cartridges "may not" be readily available, in their specific calibre.
Having said that, please don't send the T-rex to discipline me...again.
@@snoman003 thats why my sharps quigley is in 45-70.. not the 45-120 of the movie.. 45-70 is available all over.. some people claim my rifle isnt a quigley.,.. but it is 34 inchs, silver top on end of stock.. powder tray and so forth.. even says down under edition on it.. but im glad its 45-70.. i can go to any ammo shop and get ammo for it
That's one fine firearm. There is also a famous scene in the fil Valdez is Coming depicting the might of Sharps. One of the most memorable moments in Western film history.
I was going to use a clip from that, but couldn't find a good high def version.
I had the pleasure of waking up at 7am this morning to have a good laugh to start my day. Thank you... Laughter is my drug of choice these days... LOL...
Good! Hope you learned something too.
Bill Dixon has always inspired me to become a better shot with a rifle. And Bill Hickok with cap & ball pistols. I have a nice Sharps in 45/70, and a fair collection of cap & ball pistols. It's something to score impressive shots with this older tech. because a lot of people seem to dismiss them when it comes to accuracy and lethality. Great post guys, thanks for all the work you put into your videos.
I appreciate you watching and commenting. Wish I had a .45-70!
@@ArizonaGhostriders : to be totally honest I acquired a Peabody Martini in .43 Spanish that by written accounts is better than the 45/70. We'll see when the snows gone. I've gotten brass and bullets and have the first 20 ready to go. So side by side test is coming. Hahaha It would be interesting to hear about some of the different rifles and odd calibers in the west.
@@hamm6035 will work on that. Thanks.
ive deff mastered cap and ball revolvers... can easily hit targets 50+ yards out with mine.. but for some reason rifles.. i cant seem to hit targets beyond 50 yards.. even with my 1874 sharps quigley. guess i just suck with rifles
Love the humour guys. Nice little clippet of this most iconic rifle.
Gonna get me one o' them.
Perfect!
I've always had the opinion that some of the sharpshooters back then where probably better than most realize these days. As had a friend who grew up dirt poor put it this way, "I had to learn to shoot. With dad working I had to hunt. Shoot more than 3 bullets and have no meat and I'd have to go cut a switch."
Being hungry can make you learn a skill quick.
Annie Oakley had to kill what she shot at or they wouldn't eat. Plenty of those stories in early America!
I am waiting for this rifle in red dead redemption 2.
Same!
In the first red dead redemption actually we can use the sharps (in the game is called "hunting rifle")
bryan moret right
Its leaked as of now in there game files
@@texanrebel1847 wait really
I have had the pleasure of shooting a Sharps carbine. It was the type that took a paper or cloth cartridge and a percussion cap. I like the Sharps. Josey Wales also carried one with a scope mounted on the top that was the same length of the barrel. You know of the Missouri Boat Ride. Great seeing Ron Cameron again. I am a member of Clan Cameron and wear the Cameron kilt. Another great video.
Awesome comment Eric. I'll tell Ron you are a Cameron!
@@ArizonaGhostriders Cool! I am a member of the Grandfather Mountain Branch of Clan Cameron here in NC. I am descended from the Cameron's on my mother side through the Taylor's that are a Sept of Clan Cameron. Very proud to be a Cameron.
I'm in Cincinnati I thought I saw a guy in a weird hat , hauling ass
WEIRD hat? Now you've done it....I'm sending Rex after you.
Arizona Ghostriders oh sh*t he dead man
I remember learning about that legendary long distance shot in college. Great installment.
The .45-100 could easily hit a target at 1000 yds and was reasonably accurate at 1300 yds. This was a beast of a rifle. This rifle was legendary for reason.
Yep!
Wish we could getting in rdr 2. love this gun in real life and in game
Hell, I wish it was in part one. There was another good western game called Gun that featured it. Great game, well worth looking into. It's no RDR, but it quite clearly influenced it.
Right
Jules McGrules it’s actually in RDR but it’s labeled as the Buffalo Rifle.
@@toectter8886 not only that but the rolling block is a sharps I believe
Rockstar just leaked this rifle to online
Mighty fine. Thanks Santee
Appreciated!
This channel is the most entertaining & informative five minutes at a time on UA-cam. How did it take me so long to find it?!
Not sure...but glad you're here!
Is that what they call a long shot at comedy ? Thanks for another great video
HA! Yes. Although, I feel I really hit the mark.
Used the Sharps as a re-enactor with the 17th PA Vol Cav mine fired paper cartridges
Nice!
What a beautiful rifle.
Yeah, it is.
Awesome video! This reminds me of Jack Hinson, a man of means during the civil war who wanted to stay out of it..until union troops mistook his sons (who were hunting) for bushwhackers and killed them. They cut the heads off and planted them on his front gate..he went and got revenge by sniping union officers and NCOs who made supply runs up and down the river. You can still go to his cave today and look down over that river - how the heck he made those shots, beats me! But the union were pretty scared of this guy and assumes there was a whole guerrilla force in those hills. Rather than a single man. This is some rifle! Exciting times
Great history. Thanks!
Such a legendary rifle! This is the rifle that Bill Dixon used to fire one of the longest range shots in history
As mentioned in the video!
Arizona Ghostriders Yeah and its amazing how he managed to do that with only a blackpoweder weapon. Awesome vid by the way, love that you were early posting your new content :)
@@randombadassstuffs1601 Dixon was an amazing shooter. People tried to replicate the shot a few years ago and it took them 1000 rounds to hit the darn thing 3 times.
@@ArizonaGhostriders LUCK HAD A LOT TO DO WITH IT
@@richpalmer3167 Well, I would say that may be true, but we weren't there, so we don't really know.
Little known fact; only Screen Actors Guild rules prevented this rifle from receiving second billing on "Quigley Down Under," behind Tom Selleck, but ahead of Tom Selleck's mustache.
No kidding? Wow.
Nearly bought one once, but I got over it. Then I see this. Thanks, thanks a lot. ;)
Glad I could help! LOL!
WAIT! Is that why it's called sharpshooting?!!
Well, I looked it up, and apparently not. It goes back to at least 1781 when it was used in a German rifle company "Scharfschütze" and later in the Napoleonic Wars.
Good staff guys ! Well you also have the 50-110 don't tell that to REX.......!🌟🌟👍👍👍🌟🌟
Oh heck no.
Your collection of DVD western movies must be massive. Everytime I see one of your interesting videos. There's always a small clip from a western movie :) Bloody awesome upload my friend. Very interesting as :)
Thank you, Darren. Yeah...I have some movies, alright!
I myself have not yet even seen a Sharps, yet alone a clone.
Great video. As always very enjoyable
Thank you, Rusty.
I love your videos it's about wild west history love history of the west I will always watch your videos
Thanks.
Hey santee how about old western musical instruments?
On the list. Thanks.
Great episode! Great gun! Great editing!
Thanks!
3:39 ohhh so the rifle goes boom boom instead of bing bang! I'm glad he cleared that up.
Now, the 22 rifle goes bing bang. A bb gun goes "pfft"
@@ArizonaGhostriders LMAO 🤣
That last clip was super awesome Santee!! Vert interesting info about the rifle.
Thanks, Martina!
I knew this video would be loaded with Quigley lol "this aint Dodge city.. and you aint Bill Hickock"
Yep
The Sharps rifle was among the more modern firearms traded in Japan, post Commodore Perry. Contrary to what Tom Cruise would have you believe, the Samurai took to modern firearms in exactly the same way they had taken to them in the 16th century, ergo they loved them. If 'The Last Samurai' had had any respect for historical accuracy, it would have shown Samurai fighting the new Imperial army from trenches and in lines, with mostly muzzle-loading rifles. The lucky ones would have had Snider-Enfields... or Sharps rifles!
Cool Japanese history. Thanks.
It is a very cool rifle!!!!!!!! Take your time aiming and you will not go wrong.
I have had good luck with the ones friends have let me shoot. Enough to want to buy one!
Another informative video. Love the edits and keep them coming. Cheers
Thanks.
I have that movie on DVD.
I need to watch it again...👌
I like to watch it ever few years.
Beautiful Beast, love to have one, definitely on the wish list. 👍🏻🤠
Yeah...Jerry almost didn't give it back.
Lol love the bloopers..definitely a noice rifle I think I've seen a few paranormal investigations at the original factory I think it's the one.. isn't it amazing how they have gone from swords to bows to guns etc..1554 yards/meters I think you said the shot was is impressive
Oh I love the rolling block rifle and sharps
Too
Me too!
And me.
I know you keep your videos short and sweet, but I'd love to watch something a little longer, you've really got something good here, too many channels are condescending and not funny or informative, thank you.
Thank you Ernie. The big issue is that I work a full time job and edit in my free time...which there's not a lot of. So, this is what I can do.
Cool nice job guys! 🤠
I always wanted a 1892 Winchester like Chuck Conners in the rifleman. It was my dad's favorite show and now it's one of mine.
Heckuva show. I actually like it better than "Have Gun Will Travel".
Andrew, what does your comment have to do with this great video?
@@ArizonaGhostriders "Have Gun..." tried to be cultured. It was more of an acquired taste, which made Paladin more fun to watch, later in life, after I'd had more life experience and improved my understanding of history. He makes jokes I wouldn't've got, 20 or 30 years ago, before I acquainted myself with Archimedes or Plato. "Have Gun..." has legs, in that sense. It's fun to come back to, many years later, and watch it from an older person's perspective.
All that being said, Chuck Connors workin' an 1892 with one hand is iconic. Tall, strong man with that light "short rifle" is a lot of fun to watch. But I always go back to when the first Henry rifles came into use. Long, heavy rifle. More like the Sharps in that way. And I think they held more rounds.
When I see a Winchester lever action, I think 30-30. But I'm gonna check out what they were using for ammo in the 1892.
Those wild west shows look so damn entertaining 😄
I remember when i was a kid i was at this amusement park who had made a pretty authentic looking old-west town, the show they put on there looks like it don't compare much.. But it still stuck with me and sparked an interest in the old west at an early age.. Keep this stuff up, you guys probably have made impressions on alot of kids with these!
Also really enjoy your vids, found it after playing RDR2 like so many others 😅
Thanks for watching and enjoying!
I love the TRex. You can’t talk about Arizona without bringing up fossils
We got a lot of 'em.
The carbine gained legend status during U.S. Civil War and was popular even post war. Rifle was an iconic sharpshooter arm with both hunters and target shooters. As well, widely used by military sharpshooters.
Yup.
Really cool vid man n sweet gun
Thanks!
Great video Santee
Thanks, man!
Great video Santee, I always learn something new from this channel. However, how did you get all the way to Cincinnati in just a few seconds?
I ride a T-rex....and the dude can run!
I remember watching quigley down under a year ago the day i bought my 44 magnum henry rifle.. Then the next day i decided to check out cabelas again for the heck of it.. and BOOM a 45-70 quigley down under version from cimarron was in the display case.... SOOOOO beautiful... so heavy, 34 inch barrel, was beautiful.. but man 1800$ sure killed my wallet, mine didnt have the veneer sight though. the previous owner but a long 6x malcon classic scope on it. pretty expensive scope.. 400$ or so.. So for 1800$ i think i lucked out . Would be nice if i had a 45-120.. but lets be real.. i dont reload ammo yet, and 45-70 is available everywhere.. So for practicality 45-70 is the way to go. But man what are the odds of watching the movie drinking some beer, and the next day it shows up in the display case and i buy it
I'd go .45-70 too
I love my 1859 Sharps rifle
Cool
Makes a good cigar cutter too
Hey! That was close to me! Well, sort of. Great video Santee!
Could you find my hat, please?
@@ArizonaGhostriders I'll look for it, I might just pick a new one for myself too!
Quigley in Quigley Down under used a 45-110
Heckuva shooter.
I love this gun thanks could you also do a video on the Springfield rifle
Yes!
Imagine what a cowboy who used one could do with a modern day rifle
Those that do hit what they aim at.
Santee have you done a video on the horses in the Wild West?
Not yet
You missed your forrest gump reference with RUN REX RUN !
HA!
Great video as always, Santee. The Sharps was the long range rifle of its day while the equally iconic Winchester was the working rifle.
The Remington and Spencer were also popular.
There's no room in MY house for you to have one, Dad. Don't get any ideas.
Your house? Oh...yes...YOUR house. NO problem, buddy.
@@ArizonaGhostriders I'm no Pinkerton (thank Gawd) but I think I may have stumbled across some sort of domestic malady here.

heh I remember the Sharps carbine being mentioned in True Grit! Never thought I'd see such a well made youtube vid on Sharps' rifles :)
Thank you so much for the compliment.
watch a movie called "Valdez is Coming"__ Burt Lancaster
Love the Sharps! Maybe an eventual video on the Smith Carbine? Pietta makes repros and it is just a neat gun.
Planning on it. Need to find someone who uses one for reenactment.
Arizona Ghostriders awesome!
Hey Santee
Fellow Arizonan here, what about a video on dogs and canine companions in the old west?
Did one! Look up pets in the old west.
:28 That stunt woman, brass ovaries as big as Texas.
That guy she landed on just about got a face full of ovaries.
Will you do a video about the manifest Destiny ? (i don't know if its the right name)
I do mention it in various videos, but will make an episode on it.
My Great Great Grandfather was Christian Sharps…very proud of him.
Nice!
Great video!! 👍👍 I enjoy all of your videos.
The term sharpshooter came from the Sharps rifle because they were so accurate. Would like to see some more videos on colts, winchester, s&w.. etc.. maybe say something about how much they costed back in the day.
Actually, it goes farther back to the Napoleonic era.
Arizona Ghostriders it does go back to even earlier but the term wasn’t very popular until Hiram Berdans sharpshooters in the civil war who used sharps rifles.
@Paul Paulmegan I thought so too. However...not quite true, though. The term was coined before Sharps made the rifle. Yes, Berdan's group used Sharps, but Confederate sharpshooters used Enfield muskets (and were called sharpshooters).
It may have been popularized in America during the Civil War, but history tells us the origin is different.
Not trying to be a know-it-all, but we have to keep it real. Thanks for watching and I will do more videos on other firearms!
Arizona Ghostriders The confederate muskets stood no chance against a sharps rife. The sharps rifle had range that a musket couldn’t touch. The union army had better guns, no doubt about that. Hiram Berdans sharpshooters were early snipers, they even used scopes and were trained to be the best sharpshooters.
@@trapper-paul I bet the Confederates were downright scared of that technology, eh?
Sharps and quigly nothing better
I live about an hour and a half from Forsyth. I should check that competetion out sometime.
Just make sure you are drive up behind them.
@@ArizonaGhostriders of course, wouldn't want to miss a video because there's a .45 cal hole in me.
I was fortunate to shoot a 45/120. I shot it twice. I did not want to shoot it 3 times. It had quite a kick!
Been there, and yes. I like to save it for the end of the shooting session.
Great ending
Thanks. Jerry's idea.
it was made popular by Rancho Deluxe
🤣
Hey Santee, I am type 1 diabetic can you do a video on diabetes in the old west (if they even knew what it was back then) please do it
I will see what I can do on that subject!
One day id like to buy a real one. A 45-120 if possible. I went to a gun show years ago and there was a shiloh sharps for sale. 45-120 with a box of ammo. Not original but it was 2700$. Nice condition. I didnt have any money at the time to buy it. I dont either now but I heard they pay close to 30,000$ at the hospital for a testicle donation.... If anyone is interested.
Before you go and have a...ball...uh, you can buy a Pedersolli repro for cheaper.
@@ArizonaGhostriders I know. I just dont like repros. I know they are well made and all. But i dont own any now and I hopefully never will. The originals are cooler! Even if they break the bank. Il save up.
I met that guy you showed shooting at Quigley made him a bunch of 45-110 brass and came all the way over from Germany. I Loves these rifles got me a couple of Shilohs in a 44-77 and 45-100 and a original borchard in 45-110.
Cool!
Aw, you didn’t mention the paper cartridge and the cap as civil war muskets.
Funny sharps is famous but Remington tolling block was considered a better gun back in the day. It’s hardly mentioned today
I purposefully didn't. Save it for another video.
Arizona Ghostriders looking forward to it
A beautiful rifle, i believe cimarron firearms has them in production.
It would be a nice rifle for any collection.
Dont worry santee.. im 5 ft 7.. i know i know..
Have a wonderful weekend my friend
HA! You too, Brendan. Thanks.
Quite a few companies are now producing these vintage rifles. Pedersoli and Uberti are 2 of the biggest in Europe but be advised getting parts (all metric thread) and warranty work is a real PITA.
Shiloh Sharps in Montana makes an exact replica of the Original Sharps, in many different models and is a fantastic company to deal with.
I have the 45-110 with 34" Barrel and the workmanship, fit and finish is excellent. It is a very well made and surprisingly accurate rifle. Especially considering the use of hand cast lead bullets and black powder.
@BrendanTheGent >>> Try 5'5"...😊
What does the term 'bottle washer' mean? Having looked at the reproduction's prices I feel like the soldier or cavalryman trying to buy it or a Henry on $13 a month. (Richard Boone was actually a direct descendant of Daniel Boone fyi.) It's amazing what engineers designed and produced without any 'thinking machines'. IMHO it made them better as they had to actually test and handle what they were trying to make.
John Moses Browning looked at his hand as he designed the 7 degree angle of the 1911 handgun.
Bottle washer is the poor slob who washes the bottles so they can be reused for alcohol or soda, etc.
Dont worry Santee, I too am vertically challenged. That's why I wear boots! Gotta take every inch in height you can hahaha
LOL! Well, Ronauld is like 6' 7"....so everyone feels short around him.
great video. i love my new sharps so much fun
Quigley Down Under got me interested in this rifle back when.
R.I.P Alan Rickman
Yes, we lost a good one with Mr. Rickman. He was excellent in every movie he made
Amazing.
I had no idea they had rifles so accurate and powerful that long ago!
Glad to hear you learned something!
@@ArizonaGhostriders I thought it would apply more to the ammo than the rifle.
I liked seeing Paladin called out. Quanah Parker would have had him shaking in his boots and soddening his britches.

HAHAH! Thanks and so glad you enjoyed it.
I have three sharps, one speghetti sharps 45-70 and two Shiloh Sharps 45-70's. One is a 30" Hartford model ( almost Quigley minus the patch box) the second is a deluxe Montanna Rough Rider in 34". Both sport heavy barrels and long range vernier sights. I have competed years ago in Florida's State championship black powder cartridge rifle shoots and placed.
Nice!
The range of the sharps rifle with black powder was tremendously exaggerated.
With a muzzle velocity of 1200 fps. it was not a 1000 yard rifle.
I had a ruger no.3 falling block. 45--70.
I was shooting a 500 gr. Bullet at 2100 fps. with modern powder It's range was about 300 yards or slightly better.
I took moose at that range.
But over 300 yards just a change in humidity and you didn't know where the bullet would hit.
Back then i did competitive shooting !
I wouldn't doubt it. The fellas that tried Billy's famous shot again (later on) couldn't achieve it right away. He said himself it was a lucky shot.
Screw your fancy dancy brass cartridge sharps, PAPER CARTRIDGES FOREVER [this is a joke, and very good video]

It was a Sharp's "Big Fifty"
One thing about it was with that big heavy caliber rifle that 45 120 caliber rifle it was used for buffalo hunting because the Buffalo were getting so spooked all those years and people been shooting at them they've been shooting that rifle at a long distance and dropping them and they started getting more popular and that's pretty much what's going on and by the way I wanted to let you know Santee of Arizona Ghost riders I have a new email address because the other one has been hacked so I'm letting you know that so we can stay in touch better if you need some some assistance in some asking some questions you can get a hold of me are at my good friend

What about the spiky Revolver?
What?
Tomahawks, were they used in the old west and was a peace pipe actually smoked to make peace?
It was a ceremonial pipe for sealing a covenant or treaty. Yes.
