Great no nonsense guide, really appreciate the tips you are passing on from learning from your mistakes. I'd be interested to know whether you always use sand/cement render, or sometimes use lime render. And for when and why. I think I have a small very exposed ground floor bay window area rendered in a sand/cement render on an old house with lime mortar. And looking down the terrace there are movement cracks on most around the weak points on the window. I'm not sure whether I should just plug these gaps. Or remove the render and replace like for like or use a more flexible render? Any thoughts appreciated.
Great informative video this mate 👌🏻 I've been internal plastering 10 years but only done a handful of render jobs, lack of confidence really. Good to see you go into so much detail 👍🏻 look forward to the next one.
My home is far from the sea, but I still have issues with galvanised beads corroding. As a DIY'er working on my own home, I don't need to think about productivity. Not having the proper tools, I used the paper lid from a takeaway to form a radius on one corner, which came out very neat. I can recommend kebab lids that go over foil containers, just don't let your customers see it!
Fantastic video, very very helpful. A question for you… I have a block work extension that I am about to render. When positioning the bell-cast just above the DPC, how close to the DPC do you go, so that you do not get any water/moisture problems
Thanks for the message. Personally I put where the angle of the bell cast starts on the DPC line or just above it. Generally damp coming up the render is when the render is sitting on the floor, as such surface water from the rain etc causes it to creep up the wall. It’s not usually moisture from the brick work bellow the bell Cast. As such you could put it bellow the DPC and it would likely be fine. We just generally run it on the DPC line as good practice. That’s all. Hope that helps.
Very good video dude! Am trying out some beading for my first time on an internal job, big walls, going to experiment a bit, this help make it simple for me again.
Hi Alex, amazing tutorial mate!!. To render over pebble dash render with eco rend products, what size beads would you recommend? And how thick base coat and final coat should be ? Finally would you say prime the current pebbledash render before putting base coat on? Thank you so nuch in advance. Andrew
This is an excellent video matey and very thorough too. Thank you so much for sharing. One thing though, how would you bead up between two houses (eg: semi detached property)? Would you simply use a stop bead vertically between the two houses?
Couple of pointers that we believe give a far better positioning of bell-cast. We always fix or wedge something like a 4x2 underneath the bead this is the only true way to get a bead straight and in a uniform plain nothing hits the eye more than an in out wonky bead you will not get this by sticking or mechanically fixing without the use of a support. Iam very surprised that you are not forming some of the externals freehand but I do get that you are achieving separate panels. Beads these days are the only way to get a cost effective job with a degree of strength However nothing beats the ability to achieve perfect quoins I guess we’re old fashioned keep up the good work 👍
Thanks for the comment John. We do sometimes use timber. Not so much on such small lengths. If it’s a perimeter bell cast all the way round we would. Regards forming the edge. It’s a lot more money, makes it hard to be competitive unfortunately. Haven’t been asked to do those for ages. Does look great though.
Nice vdieo mate, I'm using NHL lime what do you think about using pink grip for me beads with NHL lime I got feeling it's not a good idea. What do you think?
Great videos, Alex. Lots of useful advice. I have to render an aircrete block wall that butts onto a brick wall with an internal corner where the two walls meet. What internal corner expansion beads would you recommend? Not many bead manufacturers seem to make them in UK. Cheers.
Brilliant video tutorial thanks -- great tips! Would you use PINKGRIP on cement render board like (Aquapanel Exterior) with 6mm plastic beads for a base coat and decorative finish?
Great video mate! Im a bricky can do small rendering jobs, ive got a curved bay to do with a bell cast bead. Would you snip individual beads around it or curve and snip it bud? Thank you
Depending on the curve plastic beads have a certain amount of flex anyway. Do you might be able to bend it without cutting out the back. But either way is wouldn’t use lots of little bits. Difficult to get it looking any good.
The mitre fix lasts ages. Prob most of a season TBH. usually we loose them before they run out. Regards the pink grip, definitely don’t by singles. On a whole house you go through so much. On the video where we talk about the power float we went through 2 boxes. 🤦♂️
Fair enough man. I’ve tried lots of different ideas for beading. Will definitely try this one. I have done it once but I left men on job so didn’t see how easily it went on etc. Screw and plug takes forever though!! Thanks again
@@AlexMorleyPlastering that’s the dream! Saves the hassle aswell not risking cracks to any old brickwork/beds. Will definitely get trying it next week on roughcasting work
@@AlexMorleyPlastering have u ever used tec7 for sticking beads it's brilliant for external jobs and waterproof just wandering how it would be on beads
Great video. If you use a stop end bead is it best to put silicone down the edge to stop water getting behind it, or leave it open to let damp escape. Thanks.
What a great vid, just beaded my first job by mainly following the advice. Worked well especially the mitre glue who would have thought? Keep up these informative vids for inspirational ideas. Seen the perfect mix vid waiting for the scratch coat ?? Keep it up👍

That is a lot of messing around mate ,go on line and get yourself a professional lathing hammer ,some 3/8 or 1/2 stub nails, a speed square and a torpedo level for those small windows, caulking is for painters not plasterers👍

GREAT MAN YOURSELF ALEX ! A really profescnoal video production and so informative . Big Thanks Alex .
Great video Alex. Loads of tips. Thanks.

Pink grip is the best stuff for sticking on beads internal or external 💪🏻

Great video.
What are those holes with a blue paint around them?
Great video new To your channel, just a question have you ever rendered over pebbledash if so what to look out for and prep work thank you
Brilliant video Alex … I’m impressed the way the renderer does not have to be dictated by the spirit level and the job still looks right 😊

Two snips... or a start up a grinder. Why on earth would you do that? sounds slow as do you really carry around a grinder lmao

do I have to remove the old beading that has gone rusty before I replace with plastic 😮
Yes you would. And you can use stainless steel beads instead of plastic but plastic are cheaper. Odd it doesn't suggest stainless on here.
Red plug and a aluminium clout nail works for me.

8 and 7 mm

Home owner did it. Nothing to do with us. I believe it was some kind of injection product as there was a lot of holes. So to stop water Ingress.

It’s very dependent on the job. But in this case it was about £5k. Labour and materials. This didn’t include scaffold or hacking off.
We use pink grip brilliant stuff
When you know, you know. ☺️
Would you still use pink grip if you were putting the scratch coat on the same day ?
Yea give it 15-30mins to go hard should
Use OB1 tube adhesive
