- I have fitted cheap metal gears to the axle and so has Dereck at Holly Hill RC so this is a link to his video
• FMS FCX24 Metal Diff G...
I have also added Treal lower links and they are an issue to fit with the stock shocks.
This video is for 14 years old and older. These Rc vehicles are dangerous as there are fast moving parts and hot parts that can burn.
That's a good looking truck! Those gears should last awhile!! 👍😎👍
I hope they do, the plastic ones can slip so had to be done as they were cheap.
Nice work Malcom I haven't opened mine up yet doesn't look to bad to deal with
They are simple to strip down, just care needed putting screws back.
Thanks for the shout out Mal. Yes it was the front shafts that were tighter on mine. I have a few screws that won't tighten back up too. The plastic is very soft on these and because mine's second hand and has been worked on a few times before some of the screw holes have become worn. I will probably have to get longer screws and nyloc nuts as you suggested because there's enough room to use them for the links on the axle. But I found some that were loose on my portal covers when I put them back on after greasing the gears recently. I was a bit nervous about using glue on the screws so I put a little bit of tissue in the holes. This wasn't enough to make the screws tighten fully but it helped them bite enough to stay in.
That's interesting the fronts again and the shafts were not flat as in the video I filed them a little. I did not file them a lot but it showed the edges were higher. The plastics are soft and I was careful and did as little with the screws as possible trying not to take it a part. If the diffs become an issue just get new ones or look for metal but that can be more problems. I think fitting the Treal link were the biggest pain.
I didn't have any problems with the mounting links, just with the gear metal differential like everyone else I think. I was also discussing with Holly for certain screws that we can't put back in place, for me it was the two screws below the servo, Holly had the good idea to put tissue in the holes, I put Tamiya thread lock. Not sure it's a good idea if later I have to remove these screws. I have the impression that at the level of the screws the plastic is not of good quality on this fms.
The trouble I had with the links was using the stock shocks. Treadlock and plastic not a good thing as it can rot plastic. But the plastic is very soft.
@@BasBoyRC I better understand the problem you had with your links, there is no translation on your video, I had trouble understanding all your explanations. Yes you are right, I think I will disassemble and put screws with a nilstop nut it will surely be better 😊
