As being a past semi-pro/pro endurance athlete (cyclist), having a background in the medical field, and doing manual labor almost every day...even while still being in "great shape" I can really start to sense changes in the body...they are subtle. Subtle, or not, while being as a whole, the changes are absolutely relentless! THIS is pretty scary especially after seeing this episode! I will venture to say that this probably one you absolute best Dr. Sten Ekberg! Mosly because this presentation can hit home to most anyone who actually takes the time to listen. Realize that THIS is critical information that can probably change every aspect of your life...not many get to experience what it feels like to be at the very top your game. Simply put, it is a feeling this is out of this world. I have a feeling that for many if they take all this to heart...the differences felt between "now vs. later" would also be a feeling "out of this world." Thank you Dr. Ekberg for truly opening my eyes.

Most doctors don’t know (or don’t want to) test for HOMA-IR because they need a reason to prescribe diabetes medications. There’s too much money to lose if suddenly our populations became health conscious and cut out sugar. So now there’s a decent financial ecosystem from childhood cereals to old age medications that keep certain companies very profitable. 😢

I have an interesting related story to tell ..
My UK NHS dentist took me off his list because I hadn't been in for two years (I brush well, inc gums). Back of queue? No, they don't even have a waiting list.
It was a bad time of life for me to sort this kind of thing out so I thought I would just go without a dentist, but as I have a sensitive tooth, and i wanted to be sure of no cavities, I completely stopped taking any kind of sugar except where it's unavoidable. I even avoided sweet cereals. I've been for years like that now, and the results are absolutely amazing. I had every single one of those symptoms in some small way, sometimes in a large way ... especially unstable energy. All gone. And I have not had a proper cold or 'flu in years (I'm 63 and walked off Covid easily too)

It doesn't make sense that consuming more than thrice the recommended amount is healthy, and at the same time be bad for you.
Is the old saying wrong, or are there other factors that come into play?

I discovered that you are based about 77 miles southeast of me. I want to find a doctor amenable to keto and carnivore in my rural mountain area. Will be searching for a new one before next summer. The only one I had who encouraged a low carb/keto way of eating passed away suddenly and I was left floundering yet again. I only go to the doc once each year to retest my thyroid to see if my Synthroid is still correct because I'm never sick. My current provider, a PN, became angry when I challenged her suggestion to eat "heart healthy" because my total cholesterol was just over 200, meaning again, ignorance about cholesterol (I'm an almost 67 yr old woman. My trig were only 55, HDL 60). I eat mostly carnivore. Ignorance is rampant in the medical community about sugar and everything else to do with diet. Generally, I can't even broach the subject with any doctor. Appreciate your channel. ~Cynthia

The most processed foods I eat are red lentil pasta (one ingredient, red lentils) and canned fish (in water or olive oil).
Although I had lost a lot of weight, I decided to stop drinking alcohol about a year ago. I almost immediately lost 2" off my waist. That was a bit of a problem because I had just bought several pairs of jeans (on sale) having lost 2" at the beginning of my diet change.

What he is saying about ppl having trouble tasting all the flavors of savory food like Steak, Fish & Vegetables, etc IF they eat too much sugar - that's just not true. My father LOVED sugar. He put too much in his cereal, he loved sweets and candy. He lived to be 92 and never had any physical problems attributed to sugar intake. I tend to take after my father, too. I don't eat as much sugar as he did (I don't think) but I do love sweets. I eat a lot of sugar overall. But my tastebuds haven't suffered one bit. I can taste and thorougly enjoy all those savory foods - and I can savor them too. So that claim is not accurate for everyone. Sugar provides empty calories - no nutrition whatsoever - but it doesn't cause diabetes. And sugar alone does not cause obesity either. That comes from eating too many pastries, butter, ice cream, cake, etc. Too much sugar might be harmful to some ppl, but not everyone. jmho

Key indicators of excessive sugar consumption include unexplained fatigue and energy crashes, particularly after meals. Constant hunger and intense sugar cravings signal blood sugar imbalances. Skin problems, especially acne breakouts, can occur due to hormonal disruptions from high sugar intake. Other warning signs include frequent headaches, increased thirst, and digestive discomfort.
Long-term symptoms may include weight gain, mood swings, and difficulty concentrating. More serious indicators include blurred vision, slow-healing wounds, and frequent infections4. If experiencing these symptoms, reducing sugar intake is crucial.

I noticed this many years ago when the US- made chocolates replaced the UK-made equivalents in the country in which I grew up - US chocolates were SO SWEET!! No chocolate taste - just sweet! The reason its easier and more realistic to avoid alcohol than it is added sugar is because added sugar is in everything. It feels unfair to compare the two because alcohol is often bought as its own product e.g bottle of wine whereas sugar is just another ingredient that can be added to any food/product
If I want quit alcohol I will say "okay, i will no longer buy that bottle of wine or gin" the sugar equivalent would be to say "okay I will no longer buy those sweets" but what about the sugar in my ketchup or in my low fat yogurt or my cereal for brekafast?
It is much harder to cut out sugar than alcohol or drugs in my opinion

I learned early in life that sugar is toxic on so many levels, so it's imperative to stop being lazy and become a label reader. Thanks Doc. Another important thing I understand about sugar is that Cancer cells love to eat it. If you have cancer and eat sugar it will get worse.

Thanks for the video Dr Ekberg! This couldn't have come at a better time because I'm leaving for vacation, and certain to choose some non-keto foods. This will strengthen my resolve to be wary when making choices to eat. Hope you have a happy Friday!

It's wonderful to learn something truthful about the world we live in. Chemistry is fascinating. Thank you so much, Dr. Ekberg, for explaining the difference between "glucose" and "sucrose"! I really need to completely eliminate sugar; I've eliminated everything except for one specific treat. Sugar is completely Addictive. I'm 78 and again have acne; painful itchy raised bumps that drive me crazy and it's all because of Sugar! Thank you for all of your enlightening lectures. Knowledge is power.

you should do a debate with paul saladino about natural sugar in fruit and honey, he shows a lot of studies that support fruit and honey being healthy, would be interesting to see you two discuss it

It is healthy but it is non an all you can eat because it is still sugar. Limited. Plus, all fruits are not created equal. Dattes are not equal to blueberries for instance. The first ones are over sweet (high-school glycemic index) unlike berries.

I didn't realise sugar was so bad for you. Sweet stuff is an easy bribe by parents for their children but they don,t realise what a slippery slope that bribe can lead to. My wife and i gave up snacks between meals and that simple action can really make a difference.

When I was a child, whenever I went to the dentist they would always give children sweets, I wonder why they used to do that??? I have been asking myself this question as well - why do we brush our teeth with toothpaste when it is full of sugar, sugar rots teeth, doesn't it!

I bought a container of cottage cheese the other day. My GOOD brand was out of stock, so I bought Breakstone. It tasted like there’s sugar or something sweet in it. Can’t eat it, so I had to get rid of it. There’s SO MUCH SUGAR in our foods. Since I started Keto in 2018, my sense of taste has become so heightened. I have a cheat food now and then, but for the most part steer away from processed food.

Your videos inspire me daily to stay away from sugar and refined carbs. Thank you! I have recently, and for the first time, had my C-reactive protein tested and it’s nearly in the danger zone. Having watched your videos faithfully for years, my guess is that you think the “safe range” is too generous, and I expect you would consider my number scary. Would you please consider producing a video that explains what C-reactive protein is, and how we can reverse a scary result naturally?

You mean flagged as "danger zone" even after being on a low carb diet for 3 months I was in that zone just had another tested 1 month after the test (4 months low carb) referred to from a Rheumatologist it's improved. I have cervical spine issues.
