  • No-makeup makeup is makeup that makes us look effortless and natural. I think it probably originated because we all think we look sick without ANY makeup but we want to still look like we #wokeuplikethis y'know? Well today I'm using new makeup from Typology (new lightweight tubing mascara!!) and the two new shades from Salt New York to create a low key #nomakeupmakeuplook that looks natural AF.

    I have similar undertones and I’d describe that blush color as “the hormonal redness I’m covering with complexion products” or “my skin didn’t like whatever skincare product I just put on it”

      For me it's my "I just ran through the airport/took a walk in weather over 75 degrees/took out a bunch of recycling/literally breathed" flush that is the #1 reason I wear complexion makeup. First few times I watched Kackie, I was lowkey HORRIFIED at her love of blush because I could not imagine actually wanting to look like I've been running around! (I've figured some stuff out, it's fine, I'm fine, we're fine.)

      Yep! It's objectively a very pretty color, but I have mild rosacea and some acne, and as one of the commenters asking how to combat the dreaded "pink face," I completely get what you're describing. I don't want a genuine "natural flush" because my personal natural flush is just so unflattering. Sunburnt looks like a lovely shade in this video, though!

      I had never heard of Typology until Kackie made me buy it! I finally took the plunge and bought the skin tint (picked up the two lightest shades since I wasn't sure, ended up using Shade 2 as a kind of subtle bronzer), and my tret/combo/rosacea skin absolutely loves it. It's gorgeous! I'm so happy that other people love it, too.

    From what I understand, it’s not controversy on what warm and cool is. It’s intentionally trying to give you a foundation with the opposite undertones to “balance” your skin tone towards neutral.
    So Mac describing a foundation as cool is describing the intended user’s undertone, not the foundation’s undertone.

    I've simplified the controversy for myself. Warm/orangey/browny looks good on you = warm. Pinky/purples look good on you = cool. Granted this is based entirely on my own experience as a cool toned lass who has to avoid anything orangey like the plague. I'm sure there are some neutral folks who can do both!

    I'm paler, & more cool-neutral toned than Kackie, w/a touch of olive; & I don't get pink-face, but I get MAJOR orange-face🍊. EVERYTHING skews warmer than I think it will, but not like a soft peach or coral...NO, it's a hot, fluoro pinky-orange, or Kraft Mac 'n Cheese. Mustards turn orange, pinks turn orange, warm nudes ALWAYS turn orange on me🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️.
    It makes my love for warm, sunburn-y, earthy reds & browns, a little, ummm...fraught? But somehow, when I apply &/or wear a harvest red (or brick, or cinnabar, or even a true, juicy orange) w/intentionality, it works. It's the "✨Surprise!🎆 You thought you were applying rosy brown blush, but it's actually "ISAMAYA's S&M copper"-colored on YOU...You're welcome!" shades, that are so frustrating.

    • @becauseimafan
      @becauseimafan Рік тому

      What works for me:
      1. Do first cleanse on dry skin with cleansing balm/oil.
      2. Then rinse it off
      3. Then gently remove tubing mascara (doing the gentle pinching & twisting with just water).
      Most balms & oils work best on dry skin, and at the end if I want I can add some water to my face to massage it into an emulsion, before I just rinse it off with water.
      The balm/oil cleanser won't move/affect the tubing mascara, so adding mascara removal to the end of the rinse step works just fine. And whatever gentle cleanser I use for my second cleanse (I like CeraVe) will be able to pick up any little pieces of mascara from my face I may have missed - and the cleanser won't just smear it around like can happen with other mascaras, cuz again, tubing mascara 😁

    A thing about the Haus Labs: its foundation has the closest thing I've ever seen to a correctly named shade range. I'm a very amateur painter, but I have a decent amount of experience with mixing skin tones, and the makeup industry labels things wrong. Skin is warm toned, objectively. No one's skin is blue or purple or grey enough to truly be a cool tone. Comparatively, however, olive tones are cool (they have the most blue). Yellow and Red undertones are both warm, but individual shades can have more blue or grey in them that makes them "cool" toned. The Haus Labs shades that are called Warm are actually warmer colors than the cool and neutral shades, and vice versa.
    I do, however, object to the entire concept of calling people's skin cool. And I particularly object to red-toned skin being called cool. I have, from a purely color-theory point of view, the warmest skin tone in my family, but according to the makeup industry, I have by far the coolest. This caused me so much trouble in finding blush and eyeshadow shades. I look good in neutral, slightly yellow pinks and warm beiges. For the longest time, though, I thought I could only use blue and purple toned blush and grey and green toned eyeshadow, and couldn't figure out why it didn't look good.

    • @yensid4294
      @yensid4294 Рік тому +1

      Exactly. Everyone is a combo of blue, yellow & red. The main difference is saturation (bright/muted ) & value( light/dark) Whether a color is warm or cool is comparative especially when you get into complex colors mixed from complementaries.

    • @inkasaraswati7625
      @inkasaraswati7625 Рік тому +1

      I agree with you, I always thought the names cool and warm for skintones are misnomers but I'm still confused with the Haus Labs system. I'm not an artist or anything so could you please enlighten me. In the skintone wheel that Kackie showed (15:46), why is golden is classified as cool, and why are some shades on neutral family look downright pink.

    • @lulu-xy7ch
      @lulu-xy7ch Рік тому

      @@inkasaraswati7625 So, I don't completely agree with the way they label their shades. I feel like I didn't express that fully. They do a good job, not a great one, and there's a lot of room for confusion.
      A lot of the neutrals aren't really neutral, and they do seem to lean pink. If you go through the actual shades, "golden" and "yellow" seem to be different things. When they use the word golden, they're referring to yellow/blue shades, with very little pink in them, but they'll use the word "yellow" or "peach" for yellow/red shades with very little blue in them.
      So if you have yellow-dominant skin that's very warm, not at all olive, I think you would need to look for either a "neutral" shade that leans yellow, or a "warm" shade that's not too pink. (120 Light Warm and 175 Light Neutral are examples of this).
