  • Many homeowners want to know how to prevent crabgrass in the lawn and today I will show you how to apply a crabgrass pre-emergent in both a granular and liquid form. With this granular prodiamine application I will also show you how to calibrate your fertilizer spreader. Finally, I have updates on the project lawns as well!

New chick learning all of this as my husband has Young Onset Alzheimer’s and he took care of this stuff. Nobody told me it involved math! Lol! We have a very odd shaped big back yard and small front yard so hopefully after this video, I will “get it right”. I had hired a lawn guy last year and watched him put a few products down with a spreader.I saw my husband had one and asked someone how to apply which products to our lawn and when. Since lawn guy I tried wasn’t really honest, I felt I’d be wasting my money so I am learning to do it myself! Thank you for this video!

Project lawn that is 80,000 sf had my interest. I have a larger lawn that I recently renovated. So many videos on UA-cam are geared towards smaller lawns and some of the methods aren’t practical for large lawns as you mentioned in the video. Keep the updates coming!!

Under Construction is an obstacle that reduces the importance of the lawn. Pushing 90,000 sq.ft. I plan to just mow until August, then nuke the grass that is there. I plan to sow a stand of KBG shortly after as fall grass seems to be less labor and expense battling the weed pressure. On the fence about an irrigation system as 2 acres will be a small fortune. Great Vidya Ryan. Great production and detail. Cheers.

I will have to look into that. Last year I watched your video in weed be gone that I used to spray on my lawn last summer and it worked. It got rid of all the clover and other weeds from my lawn

Buying a spreader and throwing down pre-emergent and fertilizer for the first time ever this week. This video and the project lawn series from last year have been super helpful. Thank you!

I'm watching this a week after I just applied my first step with pre emergent and realizing how many things I did wrong! Thanks!

I think its easier for me to control the N and prodiamine output if i do them separately. Liquid pre em followed by granular fert a week later. And i love the tip about putting extra fert in spreader. Badass bro. Never even thought of that.

Doc did a video like this recently. Basically set the spreader to 1/4 of the max opening and use that as a starting point. Made it really simple as I started weighing everything this year also... like a good lawn geek lol

Ryan I appreciate the vids. The hubby thinks our lawn is looking better every year. I still struggle with spreader rates and how much I put down but I'm getting better. I live in the DC area and have a clay based lawn. Lordy the struggle is real. That clay in the summer is rough on.the lawn. And I have 3/4 zoysia on the front lawn and cool season fescue/bluegrass on my back yard. I literally have a bi-polar yard.

Same brand of fert I get from my local place landscape supply. Decent prices for sure.

Thanks again Ryan, I’m in central Minnesota and followed your videos last year, but couldn’t get rid of the crabgrass. I was hoping you’d put together a video for pre emergent on crabgrass. Soil temp is 45 degrees here, so I’m a few weeks behind you, but will follow your steps!
