Yeah, I noticed that "few phones in movies" thing a while back. Mostly because I noticed how much of traditional movie plot is two characters simply not being able to communicate found information with each other. Like a WHOLE movie can be about two people trying to contact one another, or all conflict hinges on two characters just missing one another. Mobil technology has kind of killed 50% of the easiest plot devices and writers clearly aren't up to the challenge of coming up with new ideas.
Yeah good riddance. I'm even more annoyed when characters are right next to each other but just don't want to tell each other something and I have to wait 3 hours for them to figure it out.
@@speedracer2please Yeah, exactly! A more subtle thing that gets me is when there's time between scenes and the characters don't exchange info at any point off screen. Like three days can go buy and they never talked about the key facts because the conversation needs a scene of its own.

Fun Fact regarding writers deliberately not adding cell phones...cell phones are famously hard for the prop department and editors to coordinate on. Green screening to make sure the phone screen has what is intended to be there is time consuming, and is even more so when people have different phones. It's easiest if writers omit the the use of phones completely.
Depending on the set, it's often blue screens instead. That's also why you get the floating text bubbles with someone just typing on the phone. You wouldn't think it but a fair amount of compositing goes into screen replacement.
