I still cannot believe Arin "Egoraptor" Hanson, Former Artist and Animator, thinks that "Bright color" means the amount of white in the color, when 90% of people would use the phrase for a saturated color. Besides, white isn't even really a color.
@@ryancarrell3186 Because as a former artist and animator he's absolutely right. Open any photo editing software like Photoshop and increasing the brightness value of a color adds more white to it. Also whether or not white is a color is open to interpretation/context. You are right though in that most people use brightness and saturation as synonyms.
I mean, Arin's right about the Grinch's color. At least, he's right about the Grinch not necessarily being white in the original drawings. To my understanding, The Grinch was first made green in the animated show after a decision was made by Dr. Seuss and Chuck Jones, but that still doesn't mean he was white in the original book. He was an undecided and unimportant color since the drawings were all basically black and white.

If I remember correctly from an interview I watched a while back, they only choose to turn him green for the TV special because the studio insisted on the animators utilizing as much of the technicolor pallet as possible to promote the sale of color tv sets. Green also wasn't the first color they tried for the Grinch. Chuck Jones claimed that Dr. Seuss couldn't decide on what color to make the Grinch and tried a few different colors before eventually choosing that shade of green for the Grinch based on the color of a car Chuck Jones was renting. Dr. Seuss wanted viewers to get the same feeling of revulsion when they saw the Grinch as he experienced when he saw Chuck's green car. In the book the Grinch is supposed to look just like the rest of the Whos in Who-ville. His dislike of the holiday is what isolates him from the rest of the town, not that he looked different.
Another solid Arin rant to add to the collection. Gonna go with Arin on this one, but I don't think it was a question of "what color is the Grinch," because Seuss probably didn't care. He only added details when they were needed. They're called the Whos of Whoville for a reason.
