    Filled my Casio F91W with oil to make it water proof. People call it hydro mod and in theory it works and there are people on the internet who proved it. bit.ly/2UmSt1I
    I have no need for a watch that can survive on the bottom of the ocean... But if it can look cool... Then I want one.
    It can look great. Mineral oil used to fill watches can be tinted in any color you can imagine. You need oil based dyes to do it, food coloring will not work. I chose blue to match the face and I cannot be happier with the result.

      Lots of reasons not to. Cooking oils can be more reactive thus cause corrosion or they can be conductive mineral oil is particularly reactive with abs and pvc both of which this watch contains quite a bit of it will make it brittle and break down the plastics.

    • @sped6954
      @sped6954 3 роки тому

      Not only that, but have you ever smelled cooking oil after it turns? I don't how to describe it, but it is one of the foul stenches around. I also don't know how long it takes, but it's definitely inside the two year mark.

    So here is what they don't tell you about doing this. Firstly, you'll lose the beep..the alarm becomes barely audible after this. Second your buttons are gonna get mushy and sticky and sometimes even dribble a tiny amount of oil on your finger when you press the buttons (the oil on your fingers gets transferred to your clothes)
    all this so you can go deep diving with your casio f91 that you will never do.

      The mineral oil can actually , over time, fray the rubber gaskets that seal the watch. There is special oil called silicon oil with 50% viscosity, called Fluorinert by brand name, which is certified to work with all electronics and used by corporations and the military for their advanced electrical products, from fighter planes to data servers. Also it is used for industrial applications like leak testing.

    funny but but but casio which is the cheapest is actually a good watch with one exception, a watch in which the battery lasts for 10 years, which is almost impossible to kill, has a strap that is unlikely to survive more than 1 year. Yes, it just breaks where there is a hole. buying a new strap in new york together with the installation usually costs more than buying a new watch it turns out despite all the advertising and the fact that the watch has been working for 10 years, the real life is determined by the strap. it's time for casio to do something about it

      @Lewis Friend if you make a watch that can work freely for 15 years, which can be frozen or boiled, which a Russian tank can drive through and they will still work, then I think it would be realistic to make a strap that would also withstand all this
