I started loading for the .45ACP back in 1968. That cartridge has always been loaded well below it's potential. After reading Dean Grennell's article back in 1988 I started experimenting with higher pressure loads. I knew of some work dome by the lads in Canada using cut down 308 brass, they called it the .45-08, which turned into the original .45 SMC. The factors that make the 1911 a reliable defense weapon are also the weak points for high pressure loadings. My early experiments with a relatively unaltered series 70 Colt, using Unique, once fired military brass and a 200 gr. bullet topped out at 1200 fps. There were definite pressure signs. I also did some work with the RCBS 270SAA bullet (290 gr, in my alloy) those were a real handful to shoot. They did produce good accuracy out to 100 yards. I was shooting those through an AMT Hardballer, with a buffer and 24# recoil spring, again using once fired military brass. I got old and did not enjoy the recoil as much, I backed down to a 240 Keith SWC over 6 gr. of Unique, around 900 fps, in my old Colt. That load will shoot through deer like they are made of cardboard, and the SWC makes a good clean hole. I utilize an HG 210 gr bullet at 900 fps as my go to bullet nowadays Agreeing with you-these types of lead bullets will pass thru most animals we will encounter This Kimber has allowed me to go where previous Colts and Springfields could not Chamber support and controlling slide speed has always been the conundrum. My favorite bullet for the .45ACP is the H&G 68, my mold is very old I bought it 40 years ago, average weight from my mold is 197-200 gr. depending on alloy. I use the Lyman manual loading for their similar bullet, 7.5 gr. of unique, just over 900 according to the manual, but 1050 fps ave., according to my chronograph out of my AMT. I recently bought the Lee truncated cone bullet advertised at 230 gr., mine always seem to come out closer to 240 gr. Accuracy is quite good with that bullet. I found an old video put out by Rowland when he started marketing the .460 he also had a Kimber. I really enjoyed the videos, perhaps one about hunting with the .45.
@@johnclark5695 there will be a hunting vid this year My Lee 230 gr TC also casts at about 240 with wheel weights-great bullet My HG 68 is a clone mold manufactured by Arsenal-it is a 5 cavity set up and works great-I mix a little tin to get good sharp edges I load it on a Dill SDB press with 5 gr of Titegroup which Burns very clean All in all my best all around load I recently have been showing ridiculous accuracy in my SW pro series with an Accurate Mold 4 cavity HG 130 clone Tom-the machinist has the best quality I have witnessed to date with his molds They are mirror images of one another
@@stuckcase7775 The sharp edges is what makes the SWC so effective, handgun hunting is mostly about hemorrhage leading to rapid blood loss . My other H&G mold is a 4 cavity the drops a 238-240gr. SWC, I shot at a nice little mule deer buck one morning, I saw a big puff of dust behind the deer and thought I had under shot, the deer ran about 15 yards and went down in a pile, dead when he hit the ground. That 240 SWC punched right through. The load was 6 gr. of Unique.
Im 200 rounds into my load development for my home built 460 Roland. Swenson comp barrel, 24 pound spring and a #4 link on a Rock Island frame. Ive got exactly the same results as you with primers and cases. After initial development running the 200 grain hard cast semi wad cutters up to 1490 fps with 11.9 of Longshot and getting buldged cases i decided to back off. I'm satisfied on using exclusively small primer range pickups with CCI SP primers and 11.1 of Longshot with the same bullets. 1400 fps with over 800 ft/lbs of energy is plenty for me and will add to the life of the frame. Side note DO NOT use nickle cases. Every one i used cracked. Also just like you my cases will be one and done. Another helpful thing i found using these hard casts is I run them through a sizing die with the decapping pin removed on the last stage in my turret press. Im also goung with a Wilson combat mag as the the skide can out run the last couple of rounds in the mag
@@stuckcase7775 I'm now 700 rounds down the pipe and found using small rifle primers with a 10.8 load of Longshot has virtually eliminated all the issues. Average velocity of these is 1360 fps. I also only use SP cases weighing greater than 91 grains and a heavy taper crimp in a carbide die is a must. The heavy spring was shoving the bullets into the case when feeding them. When I hit 1000 I'm going to blue print the gun to check how much wear I've put it through.
Keep them videos coming brother, nothing like a 1911 45 Acp round zipping out a 5 inch barrel like a scud missle! I'm not dropping a penny on a 460 conversion kit now, after seeing this. So many people I spoke too would all say it can't be done with the 45 Acp because of 10 thousand reasons "WELL" proof is in the pudding here, any more learning from ya would be well appreciated, I just started getting into reloading my own ammo for the 45 ACP, I need to make what your firing 💪🇱🇷 I'm in bear country an cougar country and 1400 f.p.s is well needed

Great video on the potential of the 45 ACP. Something thing not mentioned about the pistol used are the other mods made to it that make this possible. Using a flat bottom firing pin stop and a stronger hammer spring are a must. Somewhere around 25 to 28 pounds is ideal. Also a somewhat stronger recoil spring is necessary as well in addition to the compensator. This should be kept below 24 pounds to prevent excessive slide velocity when going back into battery. Too much slide velocity can lead to unreliable feeding and damage to the barrel feet. The beauty of the 1911 is being able to tune the gun to the performance level that suits you and its unequaled trigger. Keep up the great work 👍
All mentioned above have been and are necessary to get it to run I do have a few mags that cause some hiccups but I still run them Agreed with your statement on excessive slide speed and force on returning from battery Set back can cause more serious issues than lack of good chamber support My dealings have lead me to more attention to bullet design and bearing surface to help alleviate this issue. That’s wheelhouse stuff there I have been non comping lately too It can be done-much depends on timing and powder selection Too slow and you get muzzle flash Too fast and you get pierced primers or worse
When you up the pressure on regular ACP brass at around high-end pressures of up to 40,000 PSI even if it's working most 1911's don't have decent chamber support, this is obviously why super brass and 450 SMC with their thicker walls help pressure bulging, consider magnum rated primers, again smaller rifle primers like the 450 SMC use if possible, increased speeds of the slide is sometimes difficult to control with these higher pressures, often out pacing the magazine spring which you'll know, now slide speeds need to be reduced, start with an oversized flat firing pin stop/plate an increased main spring of 26-28 pounds, then a 26-28 pound recoil spring, it's no good shooting a 230 grain round ball down range at over 1400 FPS if it can't recycle reliably, 'YES' a compensator helps further reduce slide speed, which might add a further 1-2 inches on the overall-length of the pistol, 1911's weren't designed to handle these higher pressures, the Colt 1911 ACP was conceived as a 230 grain ACP ball moving at 800-870 FPS and extremely reliable, these higher 'Frankenstein' loads take away the reliability and functionality of this Brown's baby, I have always thought the 45 ACP standard is perfectly adequate in most situations, penetration sectional density can be a little problematic depending, windshields, wet rain coats, barrier penetration, is now been addressed with 45ACP Plus P and better super 45 and 450 SMC's they are the ultimate because they can run almost as reliable as standard 45 ACP pressures with the right springs and firing pin stop/plate, now consider the 'Winchester Magnum 45' with those wonderful 'LAR Grizzly 1911's' on steroids can handle a 230 grain at over 1800 FPS with hand loads and manufactured ammo 1600 FPS now, if LAR Grizzly started up again, then I reckon a lot of peoples peaked interest would be fueled. Unless you buy loaded ammo, 45 Super brass is vaporware at present so it's good to know you can work up equivalent loads with Winchester brass, even if it's once and done. I am modifying a S&W 625 Mountain Gun to hunt with right now and I will have less worry about bulging or primer wipe. Even better. Thank you.

Hey Stuck Case you are on on fire. Sir you do a Dam good job. One thing to mention the 450 Smc brass from Double Tap is special its a small pistol primer pocket so its has an advantage in that we can use a small rifle magnum primer. The 450 Smc brass is as good as the 45 Super brass with the advantage of the small primer pocket. Great video!!!
I bought 1000 Starline 45Super and 8lbs of Enforcer. I loaded 250 185jhp (1500fps). 100 200gr, 100 230gr and 50 255gr hardcast. The 230gr were 1250+fps. 255 were 1100fps. 26 pound spring for all from a Sig 1911
@3.10 it came to 900 fpe. The second load, 215 grains came to around 923 fpe. The 210 load, came at around 930 fpe. Just wanted to add that the 45 Super operates at 28,000 PSI, the 40,000 you mention is 460 Rowland pressures (39,000 PSI).

Wow, no wonder the cases are "one and done". I barely got 1400 out of a supported-chamber .400 Cor-Bon barrel with a 130-gr cast bullet and Green Dot... but the brass is reuseable.
I love getting 45 super cases just because you can get them nickel coated ,they feed a little better, the geometry is a little better than the 460r. I run about 11-12.5 gr cfe pistol on 185gr sierra sports master and get between 13-1500 fps
Ive been shooting a modified 70 series colt. Clark compensated barrel with a fully supported chamber and heavy recoil spring. I use rifle primers on Roland power level loads. I use Alliant Power Pistol on all loads at Super & above. So far 230’s over 1300 fps and 185’s over 1550 fps. Both of these loads exceed 900 ft/lbs. I’ve been fine-tuning and testing with this pistol for about the last 8 years. I feel one key point is having a compensated barrel. It keeps gun locked a little longer to allow chamber pressure to drop before releasing. I chose this set up as it was what The 460 Rowland kits were using. I tried to duplicate as much as possible with out having the chamber reamed to accommodate 460 brass. I’ve been using quick load to estimate chamber pressures and I do usually stay under 35K as I feel the 40K loads in all but 185’s are just a little too hot. I don’t have 800X powder listed in quick load but there is an update that came out in Nov 2021. You really have alot of great content for 45ACP+P / 45 Super on here thanks for posting. I was talking to Veral Smith of LBT molds and he was telling me as well there is no difference in a 45 or 460 pistol and you can take 45 to 460 Rowland levels. I notice a few of your loads you have 800X going....is it because its what you have - or is it a 'go-to' for you with 45 Super? I have CFE Pistol (nothing else has been available) on hand and about a half pound of Herco left. Herco has proven to be excellent with the little testing I've done, but again I'm pretty new to 45 Super loading so still trying to learn. Thanks again for posting!
800x will produce the highest results within the limits of the cartridge-in my experience It is no longer available however I cannot add in about CFE Pistol having never tried it I currently have 3 or 4 pounds of 800x left and use it for Super loads only I also have several pounds of blue dot and Titegroup Start at normal AcP levels with CFE and work your way up examining your brass Key to remember 50 fps in a cartridge is conversational-don’t let it get to you if you max out but accomplished your goal Enjoy the learning experience and carve your own path
You have probably covered it but wouldn't the cci small pistol primers fair better as far as flow. My only concern is punching holes in the primer and gunking up the firing pin.
I am interested in 45 super and you are by far the best resource I have found. Practical application, from what I have seen you are proving the Nay Sayers incorrect. I am curious why 800x? I have it but it is probably the worst metering powder I have every used so I dont use it. I dont have a problem weighing every load but it is terribly inconsistent in a Lee. I want to use Ramshot Silhoutte. Do you have any thoughts on that? Also, I am looking to achieve 10mm performance not get to what you are doing here. Excellent Videos!
Dude this is exactly what I wanted to see what I always felt like could be done with the 45 ACP but the problem is the bullets aren’t designed to go that fast so they tear out to pieces so you could probably take a 460 jacketed bonded bullets and they would take that speed a little better probably but you were the first person I have ever seen that push that 45 ACP closer to what I thought it could do and also gets bigger around in a 10 mm I always thought that if you could get a 45 ACP up to 1350-1400 fps then that would be a way more powerful weapon that I’m not a millimeter could ever think about being
I don't know why, but Underwood and BB load 460R with .451 bullets, 230gn, and of course they don't do great. It's best to handload 45super yourself to any level you want with solid coppers. The .452 XTPs made for 454casull need more velocity than 45super can achieve at any level. Maybe the 240gr XTP might be the best for 45super at about 1300fps. Lehigh's are good, 135gr XDs are good up to 1700fps. 200gr XPs can go up to 1400fps. 255gr hardcast are best kept under 1200fps. Although, I am just talking about a 4.5" barrel.
@@stuckcase7775 I know, but there are some. I load 250gr XTP in 45super. They are .452 8grs of Longshot get me over 1100fps in my 4.5" KKM barrel The data I use was calling for up to 11grs at max load and doing near 1300fps. My G30S cant quite handle that just yet, or ever.
Have you tried any 300 grain jacketed bullets out of the 45 super by any chance? I've got a 460 rowland coming and wanted to try reloading some 300grainers for it but since theres no data out there for it using 300 grains , just looking for apossible starting point. I've got power pistol , AAC-9, AAC-7, BLUE DOT AND BE-86 powders on hand . And speer gold dot 300 grain bullets. Thanks in advance
I have not I have read from other that have My research has concluded that optimum powder space, bullet weight, bullet design for the ACP case-is best to stay around 200-210 gr area Just my two cents A 200gr JHP or TC bullet with a stiff dose of AA9 or AA7 will put smiles on your face Puts meat in the freezer as well On a personal note-I can’t come to grips with the extra brass length on the Rowland. I understand the intent but it has limiting factors in terms of bullet design-placing the ogive past optimum crimp on some-good acp or super brass will get it done Thanks for watching Good luck Be safe
Starline brass in 460R and 45 Super are one the same the difference is the stamped name and the 460 is 1/16" longer. If you load the 45Super to the same specs as the 460R from Rowlands load data you will get the same results. Is that a true statement SC?
Cool video. I'm shooting the 45 super in a glock 21. 800X is the go to powder for me also. You call it IMR 800X which it originally was. Hodgdon makes it now and that's what I have. Are you aware if there is any difference besides the usual variation you might get with different lot numbers? I've also heard that accurate #7 can give good results and it meters better. Have you tried #7? I recently got some rimrock 255 grain hardcast to try. Now that's a big chunk of lead. Love your videos. I've just started getting into 45 super and your info is helpful for my testing. Does your barrel have a fully supported chamber. I heard that some 1911's don't offer enough chamber support for 45 super. Sorry about all of the questions. It's not everyday I run into a fellow 45 super shooter.

@@jeffroberts760 I would at the very least get a 22lb or 24lb recoil spring before trying 45 super. I use aftermarket barrel in my 21 which has much better case support. Not sure how a stock Glock barrel would fare.
Super cool video. I appreciate the info. I really like to 10mm but my first love has always been the 45acp. A lot of the testing you are doing is stuff I've been thinking of for a long time. So I appreciate your efforts and putting it on video. The one question I have and glocktard touched on it briefly is do you think small primer brass would be a bit stronger. I know it's hard all I have is LRP I've been using in 10mm and 45lc. There is a differance, the way it feels to me with imr-blue is some ware between. .4 - 1grain of charge increases using the large rifle primer
Hey I have a pair of ordinance P1445 with the ramp barrel and the casing is fully supported now I have 3 other 1911 which are single stack and there's not rent barrel which means the bottom end of the 45 does ball John me in quite a bit. I would like to know what gun you were using and whether it's fully ramped or not I've been told multiple times you at least have to use a plus P to push them to 45 super loads with a non ramped rear unsupported barrel i'd appreciate it my name is Franklin and I've watched videos they seemed great.

Actually 45 ACP with Fed Nickle Small primer pockets is the same. I use Rem primers 7.5 and 8.4 of PP with 250gr RNFN in G21-KKM. 481” case expansion is max anything over we trash

@@gastondraco5906 the overall length is identical otherwise you wouldn’t be using a 1911 magazine The 45 super brass offered by Starline is identical to 460 Rowland save the 1/16th of an inch in length Sig brass has also allowed me to reach 1000 ft lbs without issue The 460 Rowland is a fantastic cartridge in its purpose It does however have limitations by extending brass past driving bands on many quality bullet designs If you stay with jacketed the issue is lessened I however delve in the world of cast performance I do utilize some jacketed loads-but not for hunting or top tier loads Wide meplats on cast bullets will get it done in 452
A 180-grain 45 calibre going at 1400 feet/second will cause much more damage than a 180-grain 40 calibre going at the same velocity. Foot pounds might be the same, but the bigger bullet diameter will push away more body tissue at a higher velocity and will cause a much bigger entry wound and a lot more trauma and shock to the tissue.

I also only use SP cases weighing greater than 91 grains and a heavy taper crimp in a carbide die is a must. The heavy spring was shoving the bullets into the case when feeding them.
When I hit 1000 I'm going to blue print the gun to check how much wear I've put it through.

Great video on the potential of the 45 ACP. Something thing not mentioned about the pistol used are the other mods made to it that make this possible. Using a flat bottom firing pin stop and a stronger hammer spring are a must. Somewhere around 25 to 28 pounds is ideal. Also a somewhat stronger recoil spring is necessary as well in addition to the compensator. This should be kept below 24 pounds to prevent excessive slide velocity when going back into battery. Too much slide velocity can lead to unreliable feeding and damage to the barrel feet. The beauty of the 1911 is being able to tune the gun to the performance level that suits you and its unequaled trigger. Keep up the great work 👍

Primer flows in to the firing pin hole and the unlocking from the barrel lugs shears the smear
Suggest Small Primer pocket and you will not have the smear or flow back using Small primers I prefer 7.5 Rem in my 45 ACP brass for 45 Super loads
When you up the pressure on regular ACP brass at around high-end pressures of up to 40,000 PSI even if it's working most 1911's don't have decent chamber support, this is obviously why super brass and 450 SMC with their thicker walls help pressure bulging, consider magnum rated primers, again smaller rifle primers like the 450 SMC use if possible, increased speeds of the slide is sometimes difficult to control with these higher pressures, often out pacing the magazine spring which you'll know, now slide speeds need to be reduced, start with an oversized flat firing pin stop/plate an increased main spring of 26-28 pounds, then a 26-28 pound recoil spring, it's no good shooting a 230 grain round ball down range at over 1400 FPS if it can't recycle reliably, 'YES' a compensator helps further reduce slide speed, which might add a further 1-2 inches on the overall-length of the pistol, 1911's weren't designed to handle these higher pressures, the Colt 1911 ACP was conceived as a 230 grain ACP ball moving at 800-870 FPS and extremely reliable, these higher 'Frankenstein' loads take away the reliability and functionality of this Brown's baby, I have always thought the 45 ACP standard is perfectly adequate in most situations, penetration sectional density can be a little problematic depending, windshields, wet rain coats, barrier penetration, is now been addressed with 45ACP Plus P and better super 45 and 450 SMC's they are the ultimate because they can run almost as reliable as standard 45 ACP pressures with the right springs and firing pin stop/plate, now consider the 'Winchester Magnum 45' with those wonderful 'LAR Grizzly 1911's' on steroids can handle a 230 grain at over 1800 FPS with hand loads and manufactured ammo 1600 FPS now, if LAR Grizzly started up again, then I reckon a lot of peoples peaked interest would be fueled.

Unless you buy loaded ammo, 45 Super brass is vaporware at present so it's good to know you can work up equivalent loads with Winchester brass, even if it's once and done. I am modifying a S&W 625 Mountain Gun to hunt with right now and I will have less worry about bulging or primer wipe. Even better. Thank you.
Spicy loads are a great use for SPP brass. Throw an SRP in there and forget about primer issues.

Hey Stuck Case you are on on fire. Sir you do a Dam good job. One thing to mention the 450 Smc brass from Double Tap is special its a small pistol primer pocket so its has an advantage in that we can use a small rifle magnum primer. The 450 Smc brass is as good as the 45 Super brass with the advantage of the small primer pocket. Great video!!!

I bought 1000 Starline 45Super and 8lbs of Enforcer. I loaded 250 185jhp (1500fps). 100 200gr, 100 230gr and 50 255gr hardcast. The 230gr were 1250+fps. 255 were 1100fps.

@3.10 it came to 900 fpe. The second load, 215 grains came to around 923 fpe. The 210 load, came at around 930 fpe. Just wanted to add that the 45 Super operates at 28,000 PSI, the 40,000 you mention is 460 Rowland pressures (39,000 PSI).

Wow, no wonder the cases are "one and done". I barely got 1400 out of a supported-chamber .400 Cor-Bon barrel with a 130-gr cast bullet and Green Dot... but the brass is reuseable.
I love getting 45 super cases just because you can get them nickel coated ,they feed a little better, the geometry is a little better than the 460r. I run about 11-12.5 gr cfe pistol on 185gr sierra sports master and get between 13-1500 fps

Ive been shooting a modified 70 series colt. Clark compensated barrel with a fully supported chamber and heavy recoil spring. I use rifle primers on Roland power level loads. I use Alliant Power Pistol on all loads at Super & above. So far 230’s over 1300 fps and 185’s over 1550 fps. Both of these loads exceed 900 ft/lbs. I’ve been fine-tuning and testing with this pistol for about the last 8 years. I feel one key point is having a compensated barrel. It keeps gun locked a little longer to allow chamber pressure to drop before releasing. I chose this set up as it was what The 460 Rowland kits were using. I tried to duplicate as much as possible with out having the chamber reamed to accommodate 460 brass. I’ve been using quick load to estimate chamber pressures and I do usually stay under 35K as I feel the 40K loads in all but 185’s are just a little too hot. I don’t have 800X powder listed in quick load but there is an update that came out in Nov 2021. So I may have to check it out if it models better than power pistol

I was talking to Veral Smith of LBT molds and he was telling me as well there is no difference in a 45 or 460 pistol and you can take 45 to 460 Rowland levels. I notice a few of your loads you have 800X going....is it because its what you have - or is it a 'go-to' for you with 45 Super? I have CFE Pistol (nothing else has been available) on hand and about a half pound of Herco left. Herco has proven to be excellent with the little testing I've done, but again I'm pretty new to 45 Super loading so still trying to learn. Thanks again for posting!
800x will produce the highest results within the limits of the cartridge-in my experience

Start at normal AcP levels with CFE and work your way up examining your brass

You have probably covered it but wouldn't the cci small pistol primers fair better as far as flow. My only concern is punching holes in the primer and gunking up the firing pin.

I am interested in 45 super and you are by far the best resource I have found. Practical application, from what I have seen you are proving the Nay Sayers incorrect. I am curious why 800x? I have it but it is probably the worst metering powder I have every used so I dont use it. I dont have a problem weighing every load but it is terribly inconsistent in a Lee. I want to use Ramshot Silhoutte. Do you have any thoughts on that? Also, I am looking to achieve 10mm performance not get to what you are doing here. Excellent Videos!
800x is THE powder to beat for apex loads
Dude this is exactly what I wanted to see what I always felt like could be done with the 45 ACP but the problem is the bullets aren’t designed to go that fast so they tear out to pieces so you could probably take a 460 jacketed bonded bullets and they would take that speed a little better probably but you were the first person I have ever seen that push that 45 ACP closer to what I thought it could do and also gets bigger around in a 10 mm I always thought that if you could get a 45 ACP up to 1350-1400 fps then that would be a way more powerful weapon that I’m not a millimeter could ever think about being
I don't know why, but Underwood and BB load 460R with .451 bullets, 230gn, and of course they don't do great. It's best to handload 45super yourself to any level you want with solid coppers. The .452 XTPs made for 454casull need more velocity than 45super can achieve at any level. Maybe the 240gr XTP might be the best for 45super at about 1300fps. Lehigh's are good, 135gr XDs are good up to 1700fps. 200gr XPs can go up to 1400fps. 255gr hardcast are best kept under 1200fps.
Although, I am just talking about a 4.5" barrel.

Have you tried any 300 grain jacketed bullets out of the 45 super by any chance? I've got a 460 rowland coming and wanted to try reloading some 300grainers for it but since theres no data out there for it using 300 grains , just looking for apossible starting point. I've got power pistol , AAC-9, AAC-7, BLUE DOT AND BE-86 powders on hand . And speer gold dot 300 grain bullets. Thanks in advance

A 200gr JHP or TC bullet with a stiff dose of AA9 or AA7 will put smiles on your face

On a personal note-I can’t come to grips with the extra brass length on the Rowland. I understand the intent but it has limiting factors in terms of bullet design-placing the ogive past optimum crimp on some-good acp or super brass will get it done

Starline brass in 460R and 45 Super are one the same the difference is the stamped name and the 460 is 1/16" longer. If you load the 45Super to the same specs as the 460R from Rowlands load data you will get the same results.

Cool video. I'm shooting the 45 super in a glock 21. 800X is the go to powder for me also. You call it IMR 800X which it originally was. Hodgdon makes it now and that's what I have. Are you aware if there is any difference besides the usual variation you might get with different lot numbers? I've also heard that accurate #7 can give good results and it meters better. Have you tried #7? I recently got some rimrock 255 grain hardcast to try. Now that's a big chunk of lead. Love your videos. I've just started getting into 45 super and your info is helpful for my testing. Does your barrel have a fully supported chamber. I heard that some 1911's don't offer enough chamber support for 45 super. Sorry about all of the questions. It's not everyday I run into a fellow 45 super shooter.

@@jeffroberts760 I would at the very least get a 22lb or 24lb recoil spring before trying 45 super. I use aftermarket barrel in my 21 which has much better case support. Not sure how a stock Glock barrel would fare.

I know it's hard all I have is LRP I've been using in 10mm and 45lc. There is a differance, the way it feels to me with imr-blue is some ware between. .4 - 1grain of charge increases using the large rifle primer

Hey I have a pair of ordinance P1445 with the ramp barrel and the casing is fully supported now I have 3 other 1911 which are single stack and there's not rent barrel which means the bottom end of the 45 does ball John me in quite a bit. I would like to know what gun you were using and whether it's fully ramped or not I've been told multiple times you at least have to use a plus P to push them to 45 super loads with a non ramped rear unsupported barrel i'd appreciate it my name is Franklin and I've watched videos they seemed great.

It does however have limitations by extending brass past driving bands on many quality bullet designs
If you stay with jacketed the issue is lessened

I do utilize some jacketed loads-but not for hunting or top tier loads
Wide meplats on cast bullets will get it done in 452
A 180-grain 45 calibre going at 1400 feet/second will cause much more damage than a 180-grain 40 calibre going at the same velocity. Foot pounds might be the same, but the bigger bullet diameter will push away more body tissue at a higher velocity and will cause a much bigger entry wound and a lot more trauma and shock to the tissue.
