      NoParking Yeah, but, like Dan Green said, fat can unnecessarily move you up a weight class.

    • @weztsidazzz
      @weztsidazzz 10 років тому +19

      Fatties are always superheavyweight. Unfortunately they get heaps of attention coz they move the biggest weights. Im much more impressed by a guy lifting over 3 times his bodyweight than an embarrassing fat slob who looks like hes having a heart attack.
      It almost seems like cheating too in the bench press when a big fatty wins coz he doesnt have to move the bar as far with those big man boobs covering his muscle.
      Remember there are 11 weight divisions and only one of them is SHW

  • @KDSRJonathan
    @KDSRJonathan 10 років тому +8

    Why in this day and age are corporations allowed to take any advantage it can to get better but when an athlete does it he's "cheating"?
    Dan has great leverages to squat and pull sumo, he also wears knee wraps and a belt, guess what, so can his competitors should they wish.
    You'll never hear him compare himself to an IPF lifter or say he's better so why is everyone acting like he does?
    Appreciate the god damn strength.

    Surprised there's so many inexperienced people talking about his arch and if his deadlift sumo is legal lololol

    • @kotallysavage6496
      @kotallysavage6496 8 років тому +11

      Jacob Velazquez maybe they are experienced and just don't agree with them. Sumo is easier and if you want me to prove this I will but if you already know that's fine. As for arch it's obvious they should use some arch but I just don't like when people like that little Russian girl bend until they're lying on top of their head and move the bar like 2 inches.

    • @Anabolic_Nerd
      @Anabolic_Nerd 8 років тому +3

      Kotally Savage I said if it's legal, since Id imagine people who know about dangreen know that sumo is legal, but saying it's easier is extremely general, there are many people who pull well above their sumo with conventional, as well as the top deadlifters in the world lifting conventional only one person has pulled 1000+ sumo

    • @kotallysavage6496
      @kotallysavage6496 7 років тому +2

      ApeStrengthPowerlifting the reason conventional will always be the world record is because people big enough to weigh enough to deadlift over 1000lbs+ don't have the mobility and their belly is in the way. At lighter weights sumo will always be easier, you think light weight class powerlifters lift more weight sumo and the biggest weight classes where people are really fat lift more conventional is just a coincidence? Imagine Eddie hall try sumo deadlift, it's just not going to happen.
      So sumo is easier when you aren't fat and conventional is easier when fat.

    • @misterairsoft101
      @misterairsoft101 7 років тому +10

      Sumo is only easier depending on Biomechanics. It is not an easier lift in the sense most people think it is (ie. less ROM). There is no room for error on sumo. If you do not have your form locked in precisely, you will not make the lift. Not to mention, sumo is safer and truly the correct way for humans to lift a heavy weight off of the ground, based off of anatomy and biomechanics.

    • @kotallysavage6496
      @kotallysavage6496 7 років тому +2

      misterairsoft101 sumo is easier, did you not read what I said? I showed evidence for it being easier.
      Leverages decide whether sumo or conventional are easier yes but for the vast majority of people sumo will be easier and sumo is easier when you don't weigh much. If you don't believe me regardless of your leverages get fat on a major bulk, you'll find sumo more difficult and your conventional will go up a lot more. Name lifters who had a fat stomach who deadlifted sumo with lots of weight? Majority conventional. Name powerlifters who pull sumo who aren't fat? Basically all of them. You think this is just a coincidence?

  • @TheJimMcD3SB

    A belt, some kind of wrist protection and some kind of knee protection (either sleeves or wraps depending) are allow for raw in every federation. Bench shirts, briefs and squat suits are never raw.

  • @TheJimMcD3SB
    @TheJimMcD3SB  11 років тому

    That's not what we were discussing. His point was that the old squat suits like the one Ed is wearing in that video added so little that lifts performed in them should be considered "raw." That's not correct. You are correct that Ed benched and deadlifted raw in a yellow singlet. But from a competitive standpoint, if you use equipment for one of the three lifts (squat, bench or deadlift) your whole total is considered equipped.

      Bilbo Faggins It's a sumo deadlift. Made for people with different leverages because guess what... not everyone's anatomy is the same.
      I can pull better conventional than I can sumo. Some people it's the other way around. You're also using different muscles for the sumo pull as opposed to the conventional.

  • @josiahlee1982
    @josiahlee1982 11 років тому

    I am pretty sure there are different divisions. ie suit, raw/t shirt. Even then it depends on who is sponsoring the event. Some allow only a safety belt and nothing more. Some allow you to wear a bench suit. Same goes with the knee wraps and straps. I think the belt is the only thing that is legal no matter what. I could be wrong though.

    • @marcrobinson9305
      @marcrobinson9305 8 років тому +1

      John Kraven Well...Moron....Usually when they're "cut up" like he is, there's more of the "bodybuilding" work involved.
      And when that occurs , the power tends to wain a bit.
      Case and point, we all remember Tom Platz and his freakish legs , but he was in a squat competition with a powerlifter by the name of Fred Hatfield. While Hatfield destroyed Platz in the 1RM department, Platz destroyed Hatfield in the number of reps of over 500 lbs.
      Bodybuilders are about reps where as powerlifters are about weight.
      DUH!!!...Of COURSE steroids are used,...BUT Green isn't the barrel built behemoth that most powerlifters are. And THAT was the point......

      ***** not to be rude sir but you miss read his comment. He wasn't talking about total weight added up he was using a slang word popular to Californians. We put the word totally into our sentences like the word dude..

  • @code-dredd

    As impressive as it is, I thought he'd be trying to lift 2,160 lbs in a single attempt, not as an aggregated "total" of all combined attempts or anything like that. How is this really measured?

    • @TheJimMcD3SB
      @TheJimMcD3SB  8 років тому +65

      "Total" is in the title of the video. That would be a good reason NOT to suspect it would be a single lift. It refers to the best of three lifts each in the squat, bench, and deadlift. Nobody has ever lifted over a ton in a single lift. Think about it.

    • @code-dredd
      @code-dredd 8 років тому +1

      +Jim McDonald I think you've missed the point of what I meant, and the keyword here is "aggregated". Lifting, say a total of 100 lbs in a *single* attempt, is not the same as lifting an *aggregated* total of 100 lbs spread across multiple lifts (e.g. 1st lift = 50 lbs, 2nd lift = 50 lbs).

    • @TheJimMcD3SB
      @TheJimMcD3SB  8 років тому +36

      That's not what it is. It's best squat + best bench + best deadlift. That's a total in powerlifting. The actual weight lifted is actually much more because only the best is counted.

    • @code-dredd
      @code-dredd 8 років тому +4

      +Jim McDonald Ok, I see how it is now. Thanks. At first I thought it'd be a single attempt. When you've seen people lift 1,000+ lbs in a single attempt (strongman competition, IIRC), I thought someone had found a way to lift much more. In any case, I wasn't aware that it's a "best of" series of lifts that are then combined for a single total.

      Actuslly yes it is. Look it up.
      RAW refers to not using any "gear" such as squat suits, bench shirts, briefs, etc.
      There are different degrees/subsections of RAW. But wraps and a belt still do fall under the raw category. There's raw with wraps, raw without, etc.

    • @Fed372
      @Fed372 8 років тому

      Raw is raw. Raw is no using anything that give the lifter an advantage. Wraps deff are not for protection as much as they are a spring out if the hole.

    • @Mylada

    • @femi9879
      @femi9879 8 років тому

      Jake H. Well reading comments like this fucktard's is very hard to do. If his federation declares it as raw, then it's fucking raw. Anyone's opinion on the matter doesn't mean shit.
      Also, belt, knee sleeves and shoes do not give you an advantage that means anything. It just improves what you can already do. Belt keeps your core tight and protects your back (which is very important if you want to live a healthy life), using knee sleeves results in less pain and swelling during and after lifting (nearly every athlete in every sport uses these) and finally, olympic lifting shoes don't give you an advantage, it only caters to help those with bad ankle dorseflexion when squatting.. top, top level powerlifters don't really use olympic lifting shoes.

    Belts just helps you contract your abs harder, it's still your muscles that work. Wraps are purely for safety. RAW means no squat suit, bench shirt or deadlift suit.
