After announcing themselves to the world on their very first official gig at Surrey University on October 15th, 1968, members of Led Zeppelin received an offer they couldn't even dream of - a year's worth of touring the US. The offer came after the Jeff Beck Group pulled out at the last minute, and an opening act was needed for a string of headliners including Iron Butterfly, Vanilla Fudge, and Country Joe & The Fish - all more than respectable bands at the time. However, the headliners realized what they were dealing with even after the first few dates. Led Zeppelin would whip the audience into such a frenzy that nothing the other bands did could really live up to the opening experience. Eventually, Iron Butterfly & Co. simply stopped showing up on their own gigs, and Led Zeppelin became an unofficial main act for the remainder of the tour.

19:46 sitting here loving this song and the end part here so much ❤... But I'm lying here with my eyes closed... And burst into laughter😂 when the song is over because I have a totally realistic 1970s flashback as though I was transported back... Great album. Whole Lotta Love...i remember hearing it on the radio, that middle part freaked me out. I was too young to understand. Born in '64 but had 4 older brothers and even my country music loving brother rocked to Zep. When i was about 10 or 11 my cousin n I rode with another brother from Santa Rosa to Bakersfield, Ca...over 300 miles. We listened to Zep most of the way. Still, i knew some of their songs but not titles, n they were not my favorite....Summer of 1980. Just 2 years before graduating high school....Zep was becoming more familiar. In Thru the Out Door came out. Back in 1977 i was only 12 n unable to go to concerts yet. All my brothers saw Led Zeppelin in LA on their '77 tour. I finally have my own room n stereo after Freshman year. One Summer day i place the Song Remains the Same on my turntable. That live double album remained on the stereo for a month. And now i understand just how great they are. And finally, i will see them in concert... But i never did. Bonzo died September 25, 1980. Led Zeppelin was no more. Gone but forever remembered and forever #1 for me. And it is because there will never be 4 gods in one band like that again. On a side note the day Bonzo died remained a very sad day for me...for 13 years. Then, as if from above, my daughter was born. So now i rejoice in being a fan, and a father, and Zep will be with me forever
Turned 64 this summer, so in the 60s I listened to A.M Radio. When I was 10 in 1970 I heard a Led Zeppelin album for the first time from my friends big brother. Instantly fell in Love with the creation of Rock Music and L.Z being like the God.Tuned into F.M. and never looked back. I would have sold my Soul to have been able to trip out at one of their Live concerts
I have seen them five times a couple of which I remember. I remember at one I said to my friend I can’t believe they didn’t play Whole Lotta Love. He said they did.
I'm a 70 yr old woman & I wore this album out playing it so much. My father couldn't take it any more & smashed it in pieces. To this day I can hear in my head the complete album. Ty
Before listening to this I was 65 …and Im now gloriously floating back back back …yes..instant time travel..genius of LZ…what more can I say guys?.. THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES..just solid gold genius
I'm 70 yr old Vietnam Veteran and I remember me and fellow Sailors listening to this album and all other Led Zeppelin songs and we felt like we were back home. I miss those good old days but I can still and will listen to them as long as I am alive. No one could replicate this music. Thanks and God Bless you and Led Zeppelin.
I'm 66. Those were awesome days for music. A break away from Frank Sinatra and 50s style. Do you remember 'lemon song' being banned and rather than cut a new album they just changed the album cover so it had a new name? Wish I could remember the title.
I remember my dad telling stories about Vietnam. He was in the Navy and served on submarines. I asked him a question towards the end of his life. "What did you do?" He just said. "If I did my job, you and your mom would not be here." That shit haunts me 30+ years later. My dad died in 1990.
Listening to this album takes me back to the 70’s as a teenager I listened to this album over and over…really takes me back…smoking pot thinking my parents didn’t know…lol…good times
I was 16 when this album came out, right on the heels of their first. I remember listening with huge, old fashioned can-style headphones. It blew my mind. I've loved Zeppelin ever since...but I love Zepplin I and II the most.
Ah girl I know what you mean! Same for me. My brother, one year older than me, he was 17, bought this album and I was mesmerized!!! You just couldn't believe your ears and it influenced my whole day, really! My brother died the same year by a carcrash. This music throws me always back into his room, the time he still lived, was my verybest brother.... he still is actually.... Yep, he still is!!!
This is the first Led Zeppelin album I ever heard. I am SO LUCKY that this was my first exposure to what has become my favorite band. OUTSTANDING ALBUM!
La humanidad puede salvarse. Tenemos alguna.esperanza. Phisycal grafitty. No dejes de comprartelo brutal. Bueno como todos. 4 imprescindible. Ahhh y el 1
In the late 70's very early 80's I had all my favorite pump up Zepplin song recorded on one cassette tape that I would blast through my little Sony walkman ear phones before every basketball game I was in.
To all of the younger people who's reviews I've read, you are here for a reason. All of us classic rockers will be gone one day. Someone needs to take our place, hopefully with the same extreme passion and love of the gift we were given!!!!! Please❤❤

I was just 9 when my older brother was jammin on Led Zeppelin. It came through the walls and I fell in love with them early. My favorites were listening to Paige's solo and it was the first time I ever loved a drum solo was John Bonham's! I love them all!
As a teenager when Zeppelin 1 came out I was instantly a huge fan when this dropped I was blown away I never missed a Concert until Bonzo was gone sadly Zeppelin was done Thank You Mr Page I was 1 of the lucky one's who witnessed the Best Live Rock+Roll Band Ever when there on.
Hey! I am 37, my Dad gifted me his original Led Zep II vinyl when I was maybe 22 or so. I appreciated it then, but since he passed its become tradition to listen as often and jam as much as possible! Love you Dad xx
Woke up the Monday after Thanksgiving, at 4:00 am, hearing this LP in my head. Went to the kitchen, got a cold Dr.Pepper, fired up the laptop. and here I am. I just turner 71, Sounds just as good as it did back in 1970. A part of my life. Thanks everyone.
I was around 5 years old when my lifelong love of music began. My mother had an enormous record collection, hundreds if not thousands. They ranged from music from the 50s all the way up to the late 70s early 80s. I would come home from school and sit down and put my mother's enormous headphones on and listen to a different record from beginning to end while looking at the album artwork and reading every word on the sleeve. I was introduced to the greatest music that has ever been made from the 60s and 70s. This was one that I definitely listen to More than once. What a great album from one of the greatest bands.
I love how if your wearing headphones the guitar slide in the chorus of Whole Lotta Love slides from the left ear to the right. It’s really awesome how innovative Led Zeppelin’s production was for its time.
I always use headphones and this feeling is fantastic. Not just the guitar, Plant's voice also seems to go around in your head. The drums also sound amazing. By the way I found some isolated drums track of this song, it's fabulous!
Abrazo grande
My favorite Zeppelin album. I remember the first time I heard this album. I was born in 1985, I was actually born on the same day that they reunited and played Live Aid in 1985. I wasn't around when they were still together. I remember when I was a young kid my dad showed me some of the song remains the same movie concert and my reaction was "Why does their singer look like a girl?" Haha. I didn't even pay attention to their music. And then when I was 17 I was driving my dad's car around and there was nothing on the radio, so I looked at the cassette tapes he had in the car and I put in Led Zeppelin 2. The first song was Whole Lotta Love. It blew my mind. That part after the freakout break in the middle of the song where the drums come thundering in and then Jimmy plays that badass guitar solo. That might be my favorite part of any rock song I've ever heard. The guitar is so sharp it's almost ear piercing. Led Zeppelin has been my favorite band since that moment. And this album holds a very special place in my heart. I've bought all of their albums and every live album I could find. This album is a perfect combination of their raw power and them really finding and perfecting their sound and style. Robert Plant's vocals are so powerful and raw, I love their earlier work when his voice was at full strength before the vocal issues that drained the power in his voice in 1973. I am now a Zeppelin historian. I just soak up information about the history of the group and how they evolved. I've got two Zeppelin tattoos. I've seen Robert Plant live in 2006 with the strange sensation. They will forever be in a class of their own and I will be listening to their music for the rest of my life.
Thanks for posting your story. I’m 56 and it hit me the me the same way around time you were born. Glad to hear when someone else young today gets it…. Because whole lotta love is the best heavy rock song ever created
When the 1st track playing, BAAM. Jimmy's crunchy tone and Jonesy's thick bassline doubling Jimmy's iconic riff, sends shivers to my whole body. The album that changed rock and roll, also the blueprint of hard rock and modern rock. The mighty Led Zeppelin🖤
'With your purple umbrella and your 50 cent hat' - that segue into 'Living Loving Maid' gets me every time. I agree with other commenters - this is LZ's best album.
Even when I heard them for the first time in 1970 I couldn't fathom how they could sound so different and powerful. They were truly overwhelming in their presentation and talent. We will never see their like again. They just set the bar at a height that is unbelievable. My generation and the ones that followed seem to agree....

i’m 17 years old and Led Zeppelin has been my favourite band for years. i seriously believe their music will never get old. if this album got released in 2024, it would blow taylor swift out of the water.
Vintage Zeppelin. A true masterpiece. Not a single weak song. As time went on, they got more complex and explored other musical avenues, but Zeppelin II was the band captured in its raw essence. This was the foundational stone of what would become a whole genre in itself and even spawned other sub-genres. What makes the sound of this album different than later Zep albums is that Page recorded it in its entirety on a Telecaster, whereas later he switched to a Les Paul. The first Zeppelin song I heard was on an open reel tape machine. The album hadn't been released in Argentina by early 1970. So a friend who had come from the US brought a tape with him with material from Zeppelin II, Free, Savoy Brown and other blues bands. The first song I listened to was Heartbreaker. I remember sitting there not being able to close my jaw. I was 15. Over half a century later, I still can't close it.
Hell, it's not even the best Zeppelin album... That honor goes to Physical Graffiti, hands down, and it ain't even close. It currently sits at #2 on my "Greatest Albums of All-Time" list... But Physical Graffiti is an absolutely perfect record(s) in every sense of the word. The packaging, artwork and obviously, musical content is above top-notch. If you've never heard "The Rover", then I feel sorry for you son, I got 99 problems, and Zep ain't one... But seriously, listen to that album. It will change your world forever... What is "The Best Album of All-time"??? Wouldn't you like to know??? 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Что мне действительно нравится в Led Zeppelin, так это уникальность каждого участника, это как паззл, который, если собрать его, можно получить идеальную картинку "What I really like about Led Zeppelin is the uniqueness of each member, it's like a puzzle that, if put together, you can get the perfect picture." Yes my friend, I agree, they are perfect! Glory to Ukraine!
Just one of the masterpieces of the best rock band ever... Think of Led Zeppelin III and on and on and on... They were not four individuals, but a single unit in perfect symbiosis with each other. And Bonzo's loss incalculable 🎶💙
Zwierzęca siła Bonzo, cichy Jones, król tempa i rytmiki, orgastyczny głos Roberta i geniusz Jimiego. Musiałbym być Byronem, żeby dobrać odpowiednie słowa. Piszę to, For touse agaut to rock( we saluter,)
I remember opening the album and looking at it just after smoking a joint. The great thing was not knowing what to expect at all! ...................and when you put the needle on the first track....................................my life change for ever..........I was 14............that was 50 years ago
First the immigrant song, I heard it on the radio in Los Angeles and ran to the record store, on a 45. THEN- LZ 2 The perfect time to be a kid. Nobody lying to you about yer gender or telling you to hate America. Just a shmorgesbord of killer bands
Song after song after song brings me to a place in time that I remember so fondly, each song bringing me to different places and people. Their music is forever woven in the tapestry of my life!
Ah, yes... intergenerational musical cross-pollination! We had a similar dynamic in our house as my brother and I were growing up. Our parents took a liking to a lot of our music, and we took a liking to a lot of theirs! They instilled a love of music in us that abides to this day. Our parents had fairly broad-ranging tastes, and my first exposure to heavy rock came from our dad. Mom also particularly liked "Stairway To Heaven." To this day, I listen to a broad range of musical styles, as does my brother. My musical tastes range from Sinatra to Slayer, with plenty of stops in between! My brother and I are both Zeppelin fans; my first album of theirs was THIS one, and his was the "untitled" fourth album. I now have all their original albums on both vinyl and CD. One of my most cherished albums in my collection is my first pressing of this very album: the "Robert Ludwig Hot Mix." Yeah, I'm hooked!
mom i dont want to cloud your day but the chillies were partly responsible for the burning down of merch vendors plus , plus at Woodstock 99. just when the criminals were getting going and torching picnic tables ,the pepper heads came out and played Fire by JIMI H,. they soon moved to the merch booths and tractor trailers , i lost all respect for the peppers bad stage call . try this band for a spin Tedeschi Trucks Band led by allman offspring /drummer , guitarist derek trucks, they play a soulful Rock with susan tedeschi leading on vocals . cool stuff . rock on .
First heard Whole Lotta Love on a transistor radio the summer of 1970 while camping with my Dad and brothers. I was 11 years old. I couldn’t believe the magic and power I was hearing. I cranked it up despite Pops yelling to “turn that crap down!” That was my introduction to the Mighty Zep.

Great production that we don't hear much in new music these days.
I always use headphones and this feeling is fantastic. Not just the guitar, Plant's voice also seems to go around in your head. The drums also sound amazing. By the way I found some isolated drums track of this song, it's fabulous!
Why that is, is due to Jimmy Page being a session musician. He used this experience to help him in the studio.

Me too !! Wow
1985 seems so recent

I was 15. Over half a century later, I still can't close it.
i still say heartbreaker is one of their top fives (i also really love trampled under foot because i LOVE fast cars lol)

Kudos To You For Giving Zeppelin To The World In This Way. For All The Ages.
Such a monumental work in music history - one flawless, banger track after another
Song after song after song brings me to a place in time that I remember so fondly, each song bringing me to different places and people. Their music is forever woven in the tapestry of my life!
Quit touching all my stuff!!!

The first chord after the solo in Heartbreaker is just like being struck by lightning right IN the heart. Gets me every time.
Never thought of it that way but Sign me up!
My very first album I purchased in high school. Set me on a course for harder, heavier, faster. Metalhead forever!
DONNY OSMOND IS CUTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Probably one of THE greatest follow up Albums of all time!!!!
I think of it as a two disk set. I mean they were both released in the same year I think.
Ramble on is such a beauty. It always brings tears to my eyes.
Now this right here is real rock and roll - brought to you by The Mighty Led Zeppelin!!
Led Zep 2, especially What is. Was my 7th grade summer, Timeless music
What I love is that my son born mid 70s was listening to Led Zep as he grew up!
And introduced me to GnR, Red hot Chillies, etc🥰
Ah, yes... intergenerational musical cross-pollination!
If the sun refused to shine
I would still be loving you
Mountains crumble to the sea
There would still be you & me
