    Finally I don't feel so OCD about setups. I try to ask people about stuff like this at the skateshop and they look at me like I'm crazy. They never know a single spec other than width. Why can't the kids at the skateboard shop be like these dudes?

      Because they're paid minimum wage and most of them don't skate I could say the same thing about the kids at paintball stores or fields just like skating has professional leagues so does paintball and guns tanks hoppers pads jerseys pants stuff you'd think nothing about its very important to know things about them just like the specs of a board has to be extremely important but they will never be paid enough there's not enough money in either for that lol. And skateboards sell for a few hundred bucks on the high side and these paintball guns can run you a couple gs so even if they cost that much you wouldn't have enough profit to pay them more then minimum wage or a dollar more at most lol

    Hi. The electronic protractor does probably have its own error on the measure of the angle. Mine is 0.2° for example, which is almost inperceptible under the feets in my opinion. Concerning the "fingers of flat" demonstration, the concept make total sense. But the way i measure it is to mark with a sharpie the points where the curves for nose and tail start by using a long ruller on its side. This way you can measure more accurately the displacement of the holes for the trucks. I just got a 8.25 chocolate Chris Roberts twin. And the one i got it is perfectly symmetrical (in the error intervals of my measurment tools) 14' 1/32 inch wheelbase. From the center of the deck 9' 15/16 of flat to tail 1, 9' 15/16 of flat to tail 2. Angle of tail 1: 19.30°. Angle of tail 2: 19.50°. Length of tail 1: 7' 6/16. Length of tail 2: 7' 6/16. Concavity: 0' 5/16. Which is a pretty flat board. I agree with the knife with two blades concept. But for people who wish to wear down the nose and tail at the same rate, i think the idea of a symmetrical board is very interesting. You just theoretically double the lifetime of the deck. Btw i don't skate nollie or sw stance. So that might influence my way of thinking

    I always try to ride the same board and shape. I prefer any brand from Deluxe. I need 8.25 x 32, with a 14.25 wheelbase, and the tail at least 6.75. I measure my boards (I bring a tape measure), I don't trust the sticker, nor the employees word. I'm the dude in shops with two or three boards on the floor, standing on them to see which feels right. The whole point is, I know what works best for me, and I do not want to have to get used to different lengths wheelbases, tail steepness, etc. I want to put a board together and have the familiarity. Trucks and wheels stay they same, too: Thunder 149s and 53mm wheels -- usually Spits -- but Bones are good too, as long as they are skate park formula, since I skate concrete parks a lot.

      I've wondered this too. Almost all sports that once used wood equipment have transitioned to some form of composit. Hockey sticks, tennis rackets, fishing rods, snowboards, skis, etc. Skateboarding is the only sport I can think of that still uses wood. I used to test out kevlar/graphite boards for this company trying to bring a composite one to market, but they just never felt as good. They slid too fast and the pop just didn't feel right. Don't even talk about getting a shiner with it. I do think it's inevitable that composit boards will have a place in the future of skateboard manufacturing though considering ever single other sport has transitioned away from wood.

      Snowboards still have wood in them. I'd say you can't beat a wooden skateboard. Skateboards get thrashed so you don't want expensive materials in them. You need that extra weight when flipping your board down something big.

      So I skated for years between 1999 and 2008. I quit and am now looking at boards again in 2022 and it seems people have gone way wider than before and longer. I remember an 8 seemed big now people ride 9 and a ton ride 8.5. Is it just cause I never saw or do people just use wider boards now?

    • @trevorbaird3827
      @trevorbaird3827 2 роки тому +1

      I have a weird idea I’m going to test out soon. I love twin tails by real, but all the wheelbases are 14.3 to 14.5ish. I bought the twin tail chocolate just now because the wheelbase is 14.0. However it seems to me that the nose and tail pocket’s spacing is pretty standard across the companies. Some like Santa Cruz have steep noses and tails but they’re still pretty much the same distance apart. At Michaels they sell craft foam for costumes and such in 2mm and 4mm thick rolls. I plan to use double sided duct tape on the nose and tail pockets, then some of the foam cut only for the pockets, and finally grip over the whole thing. In theory, this should bring the nose and tail closer together which should help in transition because your foot will catch on blunt tricks sooner and your feet can be slightly closer together in general.

    I haven't skated in years and years. But I can remember getting an Element Bam board(black with pink "bam" graphic) back in the day and being super disappointed. The nose/tail ratio was WAYYY OFF. The nose was wider and longer by a an obvious longshot. I noticed it less then 5 minutes after walking out of the shop and they wouldn't let me trade in. No damage or nothing. I was pissed.

      @Baja Malibu Surf Report How is the analysis of length/proportion of skeletal or muscular structure the same variable as overall weight? That makes absolutely no sense. If one person has longer legs than the other but they weigh the same (and are even the same height), their ideal board requirements are going to be different.
