Pop Higher Ollies With Science - Spencer Nuzzi & Paul Schmitt
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 лют 2016
- Spencer Nuzzi meets up with Professor Paul Schmitt to learn how science can help him get more pop and ollie higher. With a better understanding of the physics, you can learn how to pick out the right board or customize your current skateboard. These changes can help you ollie higher or like in our next episode, have better control.

If EA Skate 4 ever comes out they should have Professor Schmitt in it.
hell yea
Well buddy, I got news for you that you'll love. They say it's supposed to come out in August
+Jacob Gonzalez Sure buddy. Who said this? I want a link.
sure thing my dude, i'll just phish out a link for you, no charge pal. beta testers gotta stick together
LOWBACON and they should make it so realistic that you can practice tricks until you pand them.
This has to be the first Spencer Nuzzi video where he's not entirely blazed af
Did you hear the end of the video tho lol “so we can get high together” 😂
STEEZ! 😂😂😂😂😂😂👌
Hes wearing sunglasses. How could we know? XD
He probably took off the risers once the video was over 😂
I have a major tip for anyone still struggling.
I used to not be able to get my back wheel off the ground at all and it was mainly all because I didn't pop hard enough (due to me being scared to pop hard for some reason and that could of gone alot easier if I was already comfortable on my board) and I also did the foot drag motion somewhat but I only dragged it up a little or bearly at all. I also had the timing all wrong because I kind of took it like steps (pop, drag, land) but really its just supposed to be all at one motion. I finally got my ollies off the ground after getting educated about them and really understanding the proper way to do them. It wasn't just that but it took me a lot of practice and I mean alot like 3 hours a day straight. PRACTICE IS VERY IMPORTANT TRUST ME IT PAYS OFF AND I LEARNED THAT. but annyways here is a list of things you should know for your ollies:
1. Bend your knees and use them as a spring when you jump
2. Actually jump while doing the motion
4. Think of the pop as a flick of your foot
5. Think of dragging first, because the pop is really quick and it will happen if you know how to do this correctly. (This works for me when I think about it because it helps me always get the timing right but it doesn't work for everybody)
6. When all 4 wheels are in the air push down the foot that you dragged down to the ground, while lifting the other foot that you popped.
7. Alot of vids or ppl dont mention this but the drag foot placement before you ollie is super important. If you are a bit taller put the foot you drag with closer to the foot you pop with. If you are shorter like me put the foot you drag with further away from the foot you pop with. (BUT MAKE SURE THAT YOUR FOOT YOU USE TO DRAG IS STILL CLOSE TO THE MIDDLE)
8. Land each foot on the bolts
9. If this still doesn't work go back to the simple motions of pop, drag, and land and keep on doing them over and over.
The best advice I can give to you is to practice you will get it eventually and be consistent like do it everyday even if you just try 10 a day you will see some improvement in a week.
If you have any questions feel free to reply!! Have a good day/night
YALL CAN DO THIS I BELEIVE IN YOU🤗
I think people try to learn tricks too fast. By this i mean without getting the feel of different parts of the trick.
Eg. Ollies, first try to just pop the tail _slightly_ without the front foot doing anything but just trying to keep the board leveled. Dont try to pop hard, just get used to it where and when the tail hits the ground. This will help you TREMENDOUSLY later on as this teaches you the timing.
After this, do it by rolling slowly.
When you are comfortable rolling, landing and getting the feel of the balance of your body and movement, start learning the front foot drag.
Place your front foot on the bolts. Tilt your foot slightly, heel towards your back foot. Pop and do small foot drag. Repeat. As you get used to it, take your front foot little bit back from the bolts. Find your sweetspot.
Congratulations, now you are already adding up multiple steps to achieve one trick.
I repeat, control your use of force. If you use too much force to pop, you will be too much out of your comfort and control zone. Just get the hang of it by taking baby steps.
Take your time, analyze what you are doing and not doing, what went right or wrong when you succeeded or failed.
If you are too scared to do what you are trying to do, fall back to learning the previous step or do something that might help you in some other way. (In this case, just go rolling around, try to revert etc.) Everything you do on your skateboard, helps you later on in way or another.
I love Spenser Nuzzi! Seems super chill
i agree.. swabe lang..
High*
+Gauge Engeron he smokes weed btw
+Icey WHEELS I know lol it doesn't really matter to me if he does or not. seems like cool guy
Yeah we went to high school together, he's been killing it then too
I can't believe this video didn't end in a branded riser pad ad.
+thegnarcs We thought it would be cool to show some physics behind skating and bring up some lesser known ideas. But yeah...it would be funny if this starts a riser pad trend hahah...I doubt it.
+RIDE Channel I don't get the hate riser pads get. I use rubber raiser pads and they make the landings a bit softer.
+RIDE Channel Whats the name of the song at the end? Thanks you
Do shock pads make harder wheels kill less speed?
so 10inch riser pads will give me like 15 feet of air?
your team isn't even that big
exactly
Your tail would’ve even touch
@@drewm3996 r/woooosh
Precisely
This worked for me, as soon as I tried risers the board felt more comfortable underneath me, ollies felt more level. It’s just what I needed. As soon as I found this I ordered some
More episodes with Professor this was super fun.
That was very fun !
We want more videos like this one`
+Club-Michel You are going to get your wish. In a few weeks we have a related episode where the Prof and Nuzzi show how to tweak your board for better control and possibly better/more flips. Let us know if there are some other ideas you'd like to see these guys touch on.
+RIDE Channel Griptape and if grippier grip is better, low vs high trucks, dual durometer wheels, shoe goo vs hot glue (which helps shoes last longer), pointy vs square noses, regular vs hollow trucks (weight and durability) and aluminum vs titanium on trucks.
+RIDE Channel it looks like there is more than one riser or is it just one
+dylan zdon We just used one on each truck. I'm sure you could stack two if your bolts are long enough but at some point it's going to feel really crappy for board control.
+RIDE Channel how big were the risers
Come on ride! Isn't it obvious? Videos with Nuzzi are so much more popular!
Spencer is the sole reason why I subscribed to this channel.
Just watched the nine club video of Paul, then it sent me here. Paul is awesome, I live in Florida and I remember when he started making Schmit Stix. He’s a legend to me. He has done a lot for skateboarding.
Good on Ride for actually teaching kids some simple physics with this video. When I was growing up skating I never considered the actual science behind it. It wasn't until I went to university and took some basic classes in physics that I actually understood how foot placement and a setup itself can impact the tricks you learn and how you skate.
"We can get high together." Favorite part.
*Luan runs in and ollies over the professor's head with no risers and low trucks
+Devon Agard Luan's got magic
+Devon Agard I'm guessing if he put riser pads, he would just fly.
+Lil Bruce wayne "Is it a bird, is it a plane?" nah, Schmitt put risers on luan's board
+Devon Agard luan setup 7.8 deck,139 indy high(indy trucks are the highest truck on the market, you dont need pads),52 mm wheels, thats the reason for the high pop, like brandon westgate 7.6 deck 129 trucks(really light)
+Lil Bruce wayne that´s it
3:09
JESUS LOL that editing holy shit
>turns out this is an advertising campaign for risers
Did he even mention a specific brand of riser pads?
+mgiannamore it was a joke idiot...
+Sillycibin Oh... Funny.
thats how my modern "popsicle stick" board has been setup for years. 1/4" rubber risers and my vintage street bones. rides like my boards from the 80s, but half the weight and the nimbleness of a modern deck. great video!
“I know my board is in good hands” professor: smacks bolts out 😂
Professor Schmitt is such a cool guy. I've met him in person, and he's awesome!
haahaaaaa
VLSkate hey i know you 😂😊
Damn I found this comment 3 years late, guess the channel realy grew 😂
MORE PLEASE RIDE, these are fantastic
I started lifting weights and training legs (squats, deadlifts, leg extensions, leg curls) and it increased my ollie by 30%
Simply more explosive leg power.
great ollies to begin with.
yeah that always helps.
Cool concept for a show... And Spencer! I dunno what it is about that guy but he's got some good charisma (probably has a +5 to rolls). Hope to see more of this.
Excellent ! More videos with Spencer Nuzzi and Professor Paul Schmitt, please !
Thumbs up for team Nuzzi!
Ward Mosili yeah........
+Ward Mosili Theyre making it
+Dylan Reddekopp neat
am i the only one that came for Schmitt? 👀 dudes a legend and he shreds
On my way to the skate shop right now
I swear even his ollie got so much style! So snappy
Back then, when I still used to street-skate, I used to use 56mm wheels with three 1/8" risers without even knowing the physics behind it. I used to have the highest ollie in my skate gang... but that was like 15 years ago. Now I still use thick risers but on my longboard instead of a popsicle deck (and for wheel clearance rather than for ollie height).
Nah just smoke some weed and you'll get them higher 🔥🌿
+AttackDogK9 that makes me worse lol
AttackDogK9 mmd
I was going to add a like but im gonna leave it on 420 likes
Haha weed bro ahha
Smoking weed makes you lose testosterone; as a result, your muscles will weaken.
been rockin 54mm and 1/8" shock pads for 20 years
I love this guy, and the video is so sick, just loved it
I just recently ollied 7 boards on flat with standard hu thunders but i also happened to buy riser pads for the first time in about 6 years today before i watched this video. Gonna have to try this out
That first few shots were at my high school lol
Finnally another Nuzzi video my life is complete :D
I believe it. when I first started skating as I kid I said screw everyone and used risers and could always Ollie like a beast.
just started skating again at 25 yrs old without risers and my Ollie's seem weak even though I got them down alright. tempted to grab some 1/4 risers. 1/2 seems crazy
Damn! These videos keep getting better.
If you increase how strong your calf muscle is it should give u more pop because Force x Distance = Power. worked for me anyway.
His actual Ollie technique is amazing
Watch Paul Schmitt on an episode of The Nine Club!!! He puts the logic into skateboarding and does amazing things!
For this purpose, I used to ride risers with my low trucks, back when I was low/loose trucks all day - every day.
He's the bill nye of skateboarding
Newtus minder you damn serious?
Don't tell Westgate about this or he might end up in the moon.
Cheryl Emvula yea
Haha no kidding he rocks them venture Lows do the science on that
Finaly more videos with Spencer
skateboarding with physics. I am in love.
this is some bill nye shit right here
Now give Luan Olivera some risers
+SponsoredSkateboarderFrom TheSanFransiscoBayArea
He has to contact Air traffic security in order to make sure sky's clear
+SponsoredSkateboarderFrom TheSanFransiscoBayArea so he can finally fly
+SponsoredSkateboarderFrom TheSanFransiscoBayArea how bout Brandon westgate getting some risers
Men your name is hillarious
Hi my name is arron kyro I'm a professional skateboarder from the San Francisco Bay area
I'm jealous of how smooth that parking lot looks. I'll just be here with rain and snow weathered streets pushing through muck 😂
Idk if it’s been mentioned, but dragging you front foot up the grip tape must help pull the board up. A steeper angle at the moment the tail pops just makes sense.
pads sales increased 50% in one day
you know its all in the legs
Imagine paul as your physics teacher. That would be cool!
I have been wanting nuzzi for some time now!
Nuzzi is Ride
I think spencer Nuzzi should be shown alot more on this channel
paul schmitt is a ruler! make more videos with him please!
man, I've been tellin' people this EXACT same thing for over 20 yrs. now & no one would listen. youngsters would see my risers & bigger wheels & laugh & once again, I try to tell 'em but no one wants to hear me. everybody says that risers aren't "cool". I don't know why risers aren't considered "cool" but, FUKK COOL! THE DAMN THINGS WORK!!! I tried ollie a board with small wheels & no risers & could barely get up a curb. I know what i'm talkin' about cause I've been skatin' since 1986.
Still never gonna use riser pads lol
+bill paterson What's wrong with them?
+bill paterson But if you used them you'd find out they're awesome for absorbing some of the shock of landing.
+Daniel Dough probably your hardware wasnt long enought
Hahaha yeah same
How do you explain Luan Pop???????????????????
+Zefyron Bourne
He's brazilian, I don't think they know physics in brazil.
that some god shit
Who knows how high he pops with the risers
+Zefyron Bourne Acai berries...
Brazilian soccer skills.
I use 54mm with 1/4 riser pads on indy highs and love it. if i took them off my manuals would feel way different.
awesome video!! boutta go cop some riser pads hahaha
risers will trend after this! Just wait
Flustered Kid risers are still no no
I feel like Spencer Nuzzi has the best videos besides Tony Hawk
Spencer is the reason i subscribe to this channel
NEW SPENCER NUZZI VIDEO LETS GOOO!
i dont think risers or height matters too much, i think its how hard and fast you can smack the tail. watch a batb video with luan oliveira, when the opponent without pops, it will sound like a regular pop echo, when luan pops, it sounds a lot harder and louder. thats the definition of pop!
well no shit... but when you combine that force with more wind up time, it'll make even more force and make a higher pop.
Schmitt was saying in another video that Luan has long legs, which helps.
05:16 hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha nice video! hahaha
yo i love this channel
Where's the 2nd episode!? Professor Schmitt is amazing. Do more Professor episodes.
wouldnt it be even better to only have rear risers sure it would feel wierd but it would give you some more wind up
that would feel like bombing a hill on flat concrete
dom5201 ya still needa ride the board man 😂😂😂
...you've never heard of riser pads? That's all I've ever known. I don't understand.
Great video
props to spencer for getting used to the risers too. Took me about a week to get used to mine and they were only 1/8
It's like a skinny, skateboarding Shades (Luke Cage)
This shit is faker than the Huvrboard!
+Deniel Cramer actually it's just physics, nothing less, nothing more: anpther example of it is that an 8" board will flip easier than a 9" because it's skinnier. The same is for the angle of the tail to the ground, the more the angle is wide the more energy will be released when you pop and it will be easier to clear high obstacles. Why do you think in the early 90s, with superlow setups, every trick was done so low and grounded? because skaters were skating with low trucks and 40mm wheels a lot and it was harder to do popped tricks. Of course it wasn't the only reason why people skated that way in the 90s, but it was a big part of it. Then, as the setups got a little bigger, things came back to normality, it was just a natural change due to the mechanics and physics of a bigger setup.
+Nick Benza I appreciate people like you so much.
Hahahahaha 🐸☕
+Deniel Cramer Shutttttt it Deniel. They should call you "Denial"
damn denial
4:02 LMAO i thaught he was gonna make it it made me spit my drink
More Vids with Spencer PLEASEE
DONT BUY NIKE !!!!!!!!!!!!!! SUPPORT SKATEBOARDING COMPANIES ITS A GIMIC
Water you talking about
+Baked Exe Gaming Productions they supply super high quality products, and have done more for the skate community than a lot of the "brands that care"
If they were truly such evil monsters their skate roster wouldn't be stacked with such legends
but they have been in it since 2002
they havent done shit for the community, Nike only steps in when things get populair, makes it mainstream cash en when it dies nike doesnt give a fuck.
+nickinthecave if you think Nike hasn't done anything for the skateboard community than you truly are "nick in the cave"
Spencer Nuzzi in the house!
I've used riser pads when I had two different truck heights to make them even
That edit is super funny :D
The return of nuzzi!
I was dying when you slow mo'd P Schmitt's laugh when he busted out those riser pads T___T
That was so awesome
Now this just puts into perspective how insane Spencer Bartons 8 boards on flat is
Spencer Nuzzi is the man!
i cracked when professor paul mentioned putting a quarter inch risers on the board!
The professor is the best!
that video was so f****ing awsome
the old Cruz missile concave of the early nineties late eighties produced a HUGE ollie on ramps, for example the Tom Knox cop beater board
I’m a video editor and this is really well done 😂👍🏼🔥
Spencer seems like such a cool guy
yes new vid!
MOAR!!!
I'VE BEEN TELLING EVERY FUCKING ONE THAT THIS WORKS AND IT GIVES YOU BETTER POP FINALLY YOU GUYS GOT IT
More nuzzi!!!
lets be honest... everyone is subbed to RIDE because of Spencer Nuzzi
