Truckers Wicking Tub From Totes, Ep 138
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 гру 2021
- Caring for plants with an extended watering wicking tub made from totes. Make sure for the watering tube that it is located through a hole into the tote where the water is located. This will require drilling into the tote at the top to place the fill tube. The size hole will be determined by the size of the fill tube.
For more information call or text Leon at 580-564=5909. Happy gardening and thanks for watching.
A hole will need to be drilled in the top of the bottom tote to place the fill tube. Previous videos show how this is accomplished. Leon did not mention this in the video. Sorry for overlooking this item.
I was wondering about watering since he's said not to top water in other vids before. Thanks!
You should write a book, so this knowledge won't be lost. I love your video's
Do you have the link for the previous video where he does this
How high up on the bottom tote do I make the overflow hole?
@@robertcornelisse8664 I would help write book.
Mr. Leon, late summer this year I made my first wicking tubs from these same totes. I used your slotted drain pipe technique and am happy to report that the broccoli I grew in them did fantastically. I can't wait till next season, thank you for all you do.
Thank you sir, I like the way you say “ the good lord “
TYVM Leon, Love your videos
Thank you for your innovative ideas! 😊
great idea thank you new to you but sure glad to be here
Thank ya an God bless you too Mr. Leon!
Thanks for your research sir ...
God made you just wonderful!!!
This blew my mind
You have a way with words.
Good morning, Mr Leon. We are all asking. How do we fill it with water, and do we need a drainage hole on the top bucket?
I use the crates. But I use soil to plant. I cut a hole on each side of about 2 - 3 inches up on each side. I place ingredients at say ..bottom of fruit trees. Then I plant in crate and or in buckets that have holes on side ...placed in soil a bit. Works great.
Thanks Leon
Thanks
Thank You!
Good idea but what about the fill tube or overflow hole keep teaching Leon
I notice you didn't make any holes to access the bottom tote.So how do you get the water into.the bottom tote.Probabky an oversight Leon.I'm trying to give you a hard time.Another great idea Leon and once again thanks for all your ideas and tips on your videos.Merry Christmas Leon. You're doing the Lord's work with all your generosity.
Amen sir
Hi Leon! Arms family Homestead recommend you for gardening. I love your experience and information. You now have a new subscriber from Kingston Ontario Canada.
Amen !
Good morning Mr Leon I hope you are healthy this spring. We've been using your gardening method for 2 years and have had wonderful results except for the squirrels eating my strawberries. Lol :-). I have beautiful flower pots that have a single hole at the bottom. I'm wondering if you could make a video on how to use your wicking method with these pots. They cost so much to buy. I don't want to not use them.
👍
Thank you Leon for doing these videos. I would like to make a few of these trucker totes but would like to know where to put the hole in the bottom tote and do you put fertilizer in the water each time you fill it and how much? Thank you.
this video is missing a lot of info why for what how to feel with water the cost must be high not for the poor? Thanks for all you do Leon to teach us to be better gardeners
Put hand on tote. Water is cooler than air. Especially if sitting on ground. A little water if u think it's empty. Any food-grade container will work. Free sometime from big or something restaurant s. 5 gallon bucket will grow a tomato plant if not the largest ones
Thank you for a very informative video. I purchased one exactly like that at Lowes but then I found out that the plastic is made of ( polypropylene) would not last in the sun as the other planters I made over ten years ago using Rubbermaid which is made from a different kind of plastic and I am still using.
Polypropylene can loose 70% of its strength in just six days of Sun light exposure.
From an article from the University of North Carolina :
Because of the chemical structure of polypropylene, it has a high degradation rate when exposed to UV light like the Sun. The light causes the bonds holding the polymer together to break which weakens the plastic. This makes polypropylene unsuitable for uses that require longterm exposure to sunlight.
Thank you very much for this info as I have been thinking about getting some totes. I already have a couple just like the ones that leon is showing here in the video and was going to repurpose them for planters.
I love your videos. Do you have a video to instruct the minerals you are adding and what brands
Their own store sells it - no online
And do we need to just drill a hole on the side of the second tub for drainage. Where do we put the tube to fill it.
Thanks for the wonderful tip 👍
I live in Los Angeles and have been doing the single tub self-watering for 2 years. Works well, but now I see this double-boiler setup and I wonder how high of a water level do you fill the bottom reservoir? I would think six inches maximum.
Any thoughts on this?
Thanks, , , ,
Do y’all add a small hole near top of the bottom tote so you can tell when full?
I can't find yalls store hours posted online. What time are you guys open on Thursdays?
Is there any problem using wicking containers to grow root plants, like potatoes and carrots?
Didn't want to cut the top off a single 5 gallon bucket... Proceeds to cut the bottoms of 3 smaller buckets. 🤷🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️
Sometime 10 small buckets are cheaper than one bigger bucket.
this one seems a little extra lol
Leon, do you take the plastic off of your greenhouses in the summer if you are growing tomatoes in them?
Uncle Leon did you see this question?
+Where do you put the water in?
What kind of potting mix are you using in the reg bag I’ve never seen a bag like that.
We’re to get your feralizer mix in that bag ???
No fill tube or drainage holes in top tote
Is there any way to extend the watering system time of the standard wicking system while on a trip for a week?
Have you figured out a way to extend your watering time? The only way I can think of is to have a external reservoir with a float valve to control the input. It would connect to your wicking tubs. The reservoir and all the wicking tubs would have to be level with each other.
@@donskin9795 My only purpose of extending watering time is when I go on a trip for a week. I wanted to come up with a way to slow drip from the top to feed the plant to conserve what is in the container for 1 or 2 extra days. I realize this might not encourage the plants roots to go deeper and may be harmfull to the root ball . I used a 32 gauge pin needle to make a hole in a gallon jug. This needle is the smallest made . I tried using other types of needles and the water came out too fast. After 48 hours there was still about a quart of fertilizer in the jug. The base of the plant was real moist. The quart left over might be because of the reduced pressure. I covered the base of the jug with potting soil to prevent evaporation and I made a little insulating cover for the gallon jug to control temperature.
Do you use tap water to fill the tank. Do you add nutrients to your water.
I would use tap water. And I doubt fertilizer in water - he would have said so.
What are you filling with water do we drill a hole top side of bottom tote for water fill
Leon what about 2 holes in lid with 2 cans for 2 plants side by side?
Do we put water in the bottom box and how do we do that?
