    My Oklahoma farmer grandparents grew up during the Great Depression. They taught us a lot about not being wasteful. Watching you warms my heart and brings back memories. Putting your self-watering container concepts together with what I learned from them has helped me get back to my roots at a time when these lessons have become very important. Thank you, sir.

    Making the pipe go through the overflow is good idea. Last year I almost drowned a tomato plant 10 ft tall . It's leaves started turning yellow. The 30 gal tote sides were bulging and I figured out the soil had plugged up the overflow. I clean it out and water gushes out. Needless to say I didn't water for almost a month, slowly the leaves turned green again and the tomato began to flower and grow again. 🥴 Now I just need to figure out how to install one this year since they're already done

    So happy to see the laundry basket. Have a bunch of laundry baskets from a storage system I used in my last home. When I was moving, used them to pack things in. Didn't have any weed barrier so I lined the baskets with cardboard from moving boxes to plant in last year. Didn't know about your water reservoir idea but did know about hugekultur so I put rotten wood in the bottom to help hold water. Worked great. This year I'm building some with bottle water reservoirs based on your concept. 💚

    Thank you Mr. Leon!! So happy to see you again!! I found your channel a long time ago when Daniel Arms recommended it and I’ve been waiting patiently for your postings! I would love to watch you plant seeds in these containers and show how well your veggies grow in them. I’m absolutely fascinated by them. I’m wondering if there is a way instead of having a water overflow if you could have the water run up into another pipe and then divert that pipe back into the into take pipe? If then you could save water and any nutrients that may be leached out from watering and have it recirculate back in to the plant? It would perhaps mean a bit more pipes and attaching them together which I’m sure duct tape may work? Just an idea and then these tubes could be grown indoors or on a patio without the worry of water leaking out of them? I look forward to more of your educational videos and I’d love to see your garden as it grows and anything else you would like to share. God bless and thank you for sharing all your knowledge!!🥰❤️🙏🏻🇨🇦

    I watch a lot of gardening youtube and to learn different types of gardening techniques. The ones I watch are a youtuber channel . Gardening made easy with Robbie and Gary. They are from Southern California, and they do a few different things. One is gardening in plastic totes/ containers. Larry Hall - Larry or Eyvonne Hall channel(rip), who does rain gutter grow system, kiddies pool grow system and bottle grow system.
    I started watching you, Mr. Leon because I had to get rid of my big garden due to health reasons. When I am able to go back to gardening, growing pepper and tomatoes. I guess you and the other youtube channel I mentioned above. Have got me back to gardening the easy way. I have yet to make a self-watering tube you make. I say in my Texas heat that I'm all about grow smart, not harder. That what I'm trying to do and hopefully I can make a self-watering tube in next year or so. Thanks you for all you do.

    Does the soil stop up the holes on the containers at the bottom?
    If so, would adding a layer of petite or vermiculite over the containers or tubing before adding the soil work or would it be an unnecessary expense?
    Also can you show a tube that has the side tube going through that you talk about?
    Concerning your soil-do you dump it and replace it each year or leave it in your tubs and just add your fertilizer mix each year and mix the soil around? Can I leave my soil in the tubs and just add fertilizer every year? I have a auger type thing that attached to my drill and that's how I stir my soil each year and occasionally, I'll take a scoop of old soil out and add a scoop of compost in with some perlite or vermiculite and slow release fertilizer. Im getting older and I really don't want to dump or dig and haul more than I have to every year.
    I have a 100 plus mineral tubs and several 5 gal bucket as well as grow bags that I'm growing from for the past few years. I've poked several holes in the buckets for drainage I'm considering dumping soil and plugging those holes and doing your method so that I do not need to water as often or feed as often. I battle end rot and my soil not holding water. On hot days I have to water every day or the plants shrivel and fall over but watering that much depletes my fertilizer fast and I can't seem to catch up. I just want to make sure if I convert my tubs over that I do it right.

    • @helenbradley3123
      @helenbradley3123 Рік тому +1

      Chassidy you don't need to replace your soul each year. You can loosen it up in spring I just add new fertilizer. Perlite or vermiculite would be an unnecessary expense. If you just add little pipe through your jug/pipe/container it will help. I leave my tubs outside , put new compost or soil each year on top. Dig down put his fertilizer suggestion then cover back up.
