    Impressive effort, Juan! 🛩✨ Mastering steep turns is no small feat, and your determination is admirable. It's not uncommon to have a little trouble with one direction - those sight picture differences can really throw you off! Remember, each challenge is an opportunity for growth. Keeping the horizon as your guide is a game-changer - it helps establish that consistent reference point. Kudos for sharing your learning journey.

    I hate steep turns. The very first time I did them, I nailed them, and every time after that I struggled with them lol I think my problem is also looking in on my instruments too much instead of just trusting my sight picture.

      I was taught in the US to trim during steep turns. However as an instructor here in the UK, we don't trim, we just give plenty of back pressure and hold the required pitch attitude. Our view is that steep turns are usually a short lived maneuver, taking evasive action etc. Adding trim just adds to the work load and creating more things to remember. If you leave the trim alone then you'll still be in trim once you have returned back to straight and level flight.

    A tip for steep turns, modify your turn/bank angle to help you maintain altitude. It doesn't take much to stop a decent or ascent. I have never had an instructor call me out for it because I never bank past 45, nor do i leave more than a few degrees less.

    I'm having the same issues, as well as my heading slightly going off during power on stalls (I think it's lack of right rudder, but I put lots in :C )
    My brain cant handle fixing backpressure as well as bank angle at the same time, I'd like to trim it up for me.

  • @PaulGarthAviation
    @PaulGarthAviation 5 років тому

    4:00 - When doing a 45 degree steep turn to the left, are you staring out the left window at the horizon only? Lew says, "Not enough back pressure", but I'm thinking it's also relying too much on instruments and maybe a touch of back trim to assist the back pressure.
    LOL! I just watched the rest of the video -- "I'm looking at the horizon, I'm looking back in...."

    At 7:05 Lew's trimmed out in a steep turn with his hands off of the yoke. Why doesn't he need to have opposite aileron input to counter over-banking tendency? (I'm assuming he doesn't have roll trim?)

    • @LewDixAviation
      @LewDixAviation  3 роки тому

      I use very small amounts of rudder to counteract it.. This was an over exaggeration to show that trim is your best friend, but in the reality you wouldn’t be turning steeply with your hands in the air 😂
