  • A quick video I just threw together of the new exhaust system on my Ford Edge.
    Here's a video I threw together of the sound hard acceleration in a tunnel: • 2011 Ford Edge MAGNAFL...
    Intake: K&N 77-2583KS
    Exhaust: Magnaflow 16871

    That is not mesh in the tips. Those are resonator tips. They are a double wall tip with the inner wall being perforated. They are designed to resonate at certain frequencies to effectively amplify the sound.

    Did you have to apply a tune for the K&N? It all sounds great.

    • @johnanderson2182
      @johnanderson2182  5 років тому +8

      Sorry for the delay - no I didn't need to tune it for either the intake or exhaust. it is a good idea to disconnect the battery when doing either of those, as it triggers a relearn the PCM which does all the adjustment you really need for the new gear.

    Cool set up! What kind of performance did this add to the Edge and did you ever get a custom tune? I hear the tune really wakes it up on these motors!

    • @johnanderson2182

      I never did get a tune but probably should have. Throttle response seemed a lot quicker but it might be subjective since I enjoyed the sound so much haha.
      Incidentally I just sold the car last week, but it ran great for years after these mods.

      Gerry Leduc nope, no codes at all. It is a good idea to disconnect the battery during the install so the PCM does a relearn after, but there were no codes and it didn't need a tune.

      Nice! Tuning is next on my list whenever I can afford it. I just installed the Magnaflow #16871 catback kit. Installation was easy. Also I had done the K&N CAI kit a while back, which definitely contributes to the sound. That same kit is compatible with your 2013 if you're interested.

    Inside with drones on speed- / highway between cruising?

    • @johnanderson2182
      @johnanderson2182  2 роки тому

      It's not bad at all honestly, unless you go past 85 mph or so. You hear it nicely when accelerating but it calms right down at cruising speeds.

  • @HancockTheMP
    @HancockTheMP 7 років тому +1

    I just picked up a 2011 Edge the other day and I'm thinking this needs to be my first mod. How is the drone at highway speeds?

    • @johnanderson2182
      @johnanderson2182  7 років тому

      Mine's perfectly fine until about 120 kph (75 mph). Between 120-130 the K&N intake starts resonating and is a little annoying, but with some music going I barely notice (and you can still talk over it just fine). If you do the exhaust only you should be fine though!

    • @HancockTheMP
      @HancockTheMP 7 років тому

      Awesome! Coming from a GTI with a 3" turbo back that was dead quiet with the cruise set, yet loud enough to not be overbearing when you stepped on it, I definitely want the same from my Edge. It's good to know that it doesn't get too obnoxious because it sounds great from your video.

      Just to be clear, you said in another comment this was MF Part # 16871 correct? Their website doesn't show this as being compatible for the 2011 models with the 3.5L. Did you have to do any custom fabricating to make this fit?

    • @johnanderson2182
      @johnanderson2182  7 років тому +1

      Yep, 16871 is what I ordered. I just dug up the invoice (from a place called TDot Performance in Canada) and confirmed. I'm not sure why Magnaflow doesn't show it working for 2011 now - the 2011 year was definitely listed at the time (and I did a ton of research into it because theirs was the only kit at the time that worked with both FWD and AWD Edges). Mine is a 2011 Limited AWD 3.5L, and I remember that the Flowmaster kit only worked with FWD's because of the rear sway bar placement on the AWD's. The only issue I ran into was that the end connecting to the original pipe on the cat was pretty tight, but I used a cheap pipe expander bit (which I got for like $20 locally) to widen it a bit, then everything went on fine. I'm sure it would have worked without that tool but it made it a lot easier. Otherwise, I didn't have to do anything custom.
      Anyways, I'd give Magnaflow a call and confirm with them. My understanding is that there are virtually no changes between the 2011-2014 model years that should affect exhaust fitment, but hopefully they can clear it up!

    • @johnanderson2182
      @johnanderson2182  3 роки тому +1

      Honestly I can't say for sure since I didn't dyno it or anything. I want to say there's a tiny bit more power, but it could be all in my head since I love the sound so much.

    • @noahkidd4674
      @noahkidd4674 2 роки тому +1

      The cold air intake alone claims like 10 or 15 horsepower increase, theoretically this should put that car up to about 300 horses

    • @johnanderson2182
      @johnanderson2182  2 роки тому

      @@noahkidd4674 True. I'm always a bit skeptical of those claims, but who knows. I wish I had a buddy with a dyno locally.
      Based on the number of slightly sporty cars (think 80's/90's mustangs, that sort of thing, not real performance cars) that I've outrun, I'm sure I've gained a few HP though.

    sounds good and subtle. adding a muffler to it?

    • @johnanderson2182
      @johnanderson2182  7 років тому +1

      Yeah I love how it doesn't sound like much till you really open it up. The Magnaflow kit does have both a resonator and muffler on it already, and I think I'll leave it as is. It's at the just the right volume level for most driving situations (it's only on the highway around like 75-80 mph that it gets a bit annoyingly loud).

    • @jonathansosa1781
      @jonathansosa1781 7 років тому

      John Anderson that's unfortunate because I was looking to get this and most free ways and highways is 75mph to 80mph. sounds great with the intake also. I have the same k&n with some hr Springs and 265 super sport tires. the exhaust is probably the last thing I do to this car. it's just so heavy

    • @johnanderson2182
      @johnanderson2182  7 років тому

      Gotcha. Around where I live in Canada the speed limits usually 110 kph (70 mph) so unless I'm speeding it's fine. Cool call on the springs - I might need to look into that as well. Are they super expensive? Otherwise I'm mostly done with mods too, except maybe some tuning when I can afford to.

    • @jonathansosa1781
      @jonathansosa1781 7 років тому +1

      John Anderson the springs I got lowered the car well. just had a vision for it. once I got the new tires, the fitment was perfect. I got mine for 240.
