    What liquid you use to protect knife surface in hardening process?

      It is in place of using inert gas in the kiln or stainless steel foil wrap. Look for heat treat coatings on the computer

      Steven Gunn have you ever heard of Alec Steele? He is by far a better blacksmith. He forges Damascus steel. This guy just cuts metal. Alec Steele could make this in his sleep.

      In the beginnig I didn't have the tools either. I started with one single file, a hacksaw and a torch. With those 3 things and patience you can make a kinfe :)

      This design was according to the customer's wishes :)

      Minimalist or traditional are well favored Bec they are long favored. I rather see new innovation than re hash of what's always been done for sake of filming a show to be watched. Skeletonized knives are very minimal and I do like those alot

    New knife maker here! I’m going to using a file bevel jig. How do you know what angle to start filing at? What thickness of steel is good to start with? I’m going to be starting with a hunting/skinning knife.

      To start i would take a steel with a thickness of 3 mm.
      Mark two lines indicating the center of the blade so that you know, where to stop filing. Then you start with a steep angle until you reach the first line. By reducing the file angle you can bring the bevel up your blade until you reach your desired bevel height :)

    Why do you paint your knife before heat treat?

      Keeps oxygen from damaging knife while it is heating up. Basically stop the blade from burning even though it doesn't get not enough, long enough to melt

      Get 1075 alloy. Not the top, but very tough and forgiving for new makers plus less expense
