Classic is my fav, the DLR era sound all the time!!
The others too harsh me trebly
The Standard sounds like the sweet spot for me. Perfect amount of gain!
I would love to have had the stock Frankie’s Wolfgang pickup added to this comparison video.
The Plus just has more of everything, ❤❤❤ I think it's time to upgrade my B&W striped series
the red just pops and that roasted maple neck looks so nice.
Naahhh!!! I own that guitar... and the roasted maple is the worst thing in the mexican Frankenstrat (and the Floyd/D-tuna too). I'm serching a safe way to get rid of that brown shade!
Someonethere in Mexico don't know/understand what is the "EVH Brown Sound"! 😁
@@Guttalaserthe wood on the neck has nothing to do with the sound that’s coming out of your amp…
@@locrian5818 ouch... ok... and... who said that? you write faster than you read!
First of all GREAT informative DEMO! To my ears the "CLASSIC" version sounds and response is the best.
It's the Franky plus all the way! Biting harmonics out the ass. The 5150 III amps are killer as well! Blows my Marshall away. What a tone monster! If you want Les Paul tone, purchase a Les Paul. EVH gear isn't for church socials. These pickups sound exactly like Eddie wanted them to. Badass! Screaming power on demand.
EVH RIP 1955-2020 🤘 ❤ @jeffowens5150
Loving the sound of the plus!
You should compare them with the Wolfgang pickups becaue that's what actually comes with this guitar.
It's the standard, check the specs
@@Octopus502 It's not standard. Wolfgang is standard. Frankenstein is a different pickup, similar specs but not exact.
Should have been added the wolfgang pickup to hear the differences.
I haven’t been a high output pickup guy the past 5 years as i started preferring the clarity of lower output pickups but the plus has something I liked more in this comparison. The Suhr Aldrich is another example which I recently installed in one of my guitars and it sounds awesome!
I have the Aldrich bridge model in my '87 Kramer. It's AMAZING.
@@johnnywomack548Fantastic! Have you tried the split and parallel wiring modes with it yet? Really sounds great in all of them. The split has very little volume drop and parallel wiring adds a bit of clarity but doesn’t really loose much gain.
Incredible sound !!! Fantastic !!! Thanks EVH !!!
The Standard suits VH1 and the Plus is closer to EVH’s VH2 tone imo. Both are great.
I have the classic in one guitar and the standard in a several guitars, have not got a plus yet. I have a bunch of wolfgang pickups too…. LOVE EM!!!!
That brought back some memories!
Classic and the standard are my favs, but all sound fantastic!
I have to go with the classic.
🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽
the Plus has definitively more definition, very refined tone
Very good trem picking bud. 👍🏻
Classic it is for me🤘🏼
Let's give it up to the demo player!
I would like hear a comparison with a bridge Wolfgang pup as found in my EVH Wolfgang standard guitar. It's by far my fav pup through my yamaha thr x3 modeling amp. Yes, I'm a bedroom player!
I think, Standard has got THAT (easily recognizable) character, Plus sounds full and rich, while Classic, hopefully, should be the most versatile for those, who want a clean sounding humbucker.
I must add, that naming is spot on.
Pickup plus sounds the best for me !!
I love how he can't play the actual riffs for copyright or whatever, but we all know what he's playing. That takes talent!
My fav is the Plus one.
I am using a
Vampire Pick Up
for my guitar.
The Franky Plus really jumps out. Normally I like the 13-14k range on a pickup..A2 or A5. Id have to pick the Plus in this case.
Yeah i like it more than the first EVH Frankenstein released years ago. that one is about `13.7K
5:15 Sounds like Fleetwood Mac's Rhiannon
I recently got a Frankie and it comes stock with the wolfgang. How does that compare to these?
Specs wise the wg is similar to the standard. Same magnets, similar dcr, slightly less output on the WG but that's not a bad thing if you like the clarity of lower output/less gain pickups and letting your amp do the work.
Personally I like the WG humbuckers so much that they bumped the seymour duncan JB to second place on my list of all-time favorite pickups.
🎸🔥🔥🔥🔥
Are these 2k too
Classic sounds best. The other two sound the same. Clearer than the Classic but I still like the Classic better.
I agree, too much hiss and harsh noise on the other two
I’m favoring the Plus
The Classic F-O-R-E-V-E-R!!! To me... too much output and compression in the hi-output others... and less dynamics too!
And the volume (opss... TONE!) roll-off is better too in the Classic ... while in the others you must almost shot all the way down the puppyes to get the super-clean that became almost dead.
At 14.4k with an Alnico ll puts you in Duncan Custom Custom territory... 17.3k w/Alnico ll would be close to the Duncan RTM.
Ed's sound went through changes and so should his pickups. Frankenstein is one sound. No shame in releasing a 5150 (kramer era) and Wolfgang pickup. I like them all for different reasons but my favorite is the mid-range DLR Era stuff. It's sweeter... bluesier sounding.
Todo muy lindo.
Una de las mejores demostraciones que ya vi, mostrando la dinámica de cada uno, con diferentes técnicas (tocando a lo Van Halen).
Felicitaciones a este señor que supo mostrar el producto.
I never care to read the spec😮 didn't know Eddie love anilco 2 so much... So basically this the same realm as slash pickup, right?
Isnt the real deal just an old antique gibson paf 57'?
To my ears, and imho, the Classic captures the original essence. The other two just seem to run too hot. The Classic requires you to make your fingers 'work' a bit to get the magic out of the pickup. Think: that warm, just-about-to-melt-the-tubes-tone juuuust backed off a tad on "Where Have All The Good Times Gone". But, to each his own, as they say.
Love that tone
I wonder how much Eddie had or if he had any input on these pickups.
He died almost 4 years ago and this is a new product, so probably none. Maybe Wolfgang had input though, which is still valid.
I like the classic, but if I was looking for a something a little hotter, I think either of the other two would be fine
The plus better for cleaner tones, it would probably pair best with albums such as 5150🤙 However, nothing can beat the original brown sound🎸🔥🤣
Standard 💯
The Actual Frankenstein had very low output. Ed was playing through a cranked amp for the tone.
If EVH is gonna go roasted, why not put in a mini-toggle, or a push pull or push push and actually make the neck pickup functional? I don’t recall Eddie ever having a roasted Frank neck…
Ok here's what I don't get - why go through all the trouble to make a pickup that replicates Ed's classic tone and then not even make it the standard spec for the replica of his classic guitar?
It's just more gain difference.
There are pickups as good if not better for less money. 219.99 WTF!
Standard all the way.
+
Sound the same to me
So the same
II did not like the tone of the rig in this video. Idunno, if it was me I'd test them with a 59' Marshall with the appropriate speaker and mic combination. Can't please everyone I guess. I would consider the Pete Thorn pickup test video to be way better when were talking about what most EVH tone chasers are looking for in a rig sound for testing.
Yeah these all sound too modern "Metal" for old VH tones. I want to hear these through a Suhr SL68 or the new friend,an PLEX,
It’s almost like the pickups barely matter
To be fair this is closer to the tone Eddie was using for 30+ years up until his death, and the EVH5150III is their product that they are also trying to sell. It'd not make sense for EVH/Fender to use a Marshall to market their pickups.
@@EOHRyan Yeah you are right. Eddies end tone was nothing like his 78 or 79 tones.
His tastes changed and he opted for more gain in the latter years.
100%… Too much saturation…not Eddie’s sound at all.
I don’t think everyone understands. When they say standard they mean the standard pickup that comes in the standard Frankenstein model. It’s not a separate model. They have Classic and Plus then Standard which is what comes in the guitar stock. The plus is far too hot for Eddies sound. The older he got the less distorted his guitar was. These pickups are far more distorted than what Eddie used on his rig for sure. These pickups sound more heavy heavy metal than classic Eddie tones. The standard sounds best to me.
They don’t put a Frankenstein pickup in these guitars. They use the Wolfgang pickup.
And by “standard” they mean the Standard Frankenstein pickup that has been Out for years
Sorry, they are too closers, need to listen it alot😂
What is the one pickup on the New spécial wolfgang stripped b/w? I m waiting for it since 9w😅
Honestly, cannot hear a difference from one or the other. Agree with the comment that overall I don't like the guitar tone choice for the video.
I'd opt for the classic since I've always been in favor of a lower output pickup, get your gain from your amp not your guitar
You can't hear the difference, because there isn't one. Pickups and "tone wood" are the two biggest scams in the guitar industry. Anybody saying they can hear the difference only hear it because they want to. It's just like those videos you watch playing the same audio over and over again, but you're given a list of sentences to read and with each new sentence what you're reading is what you hear... Same phenomenon.
WOW...what a difference between pickups!! I'm totally kidding, I heard absolutely NO difference through my Samsung S22's speaker...Im guessing I probably wouldnt hear a difference live either.
I got news for ya!, they are all overpriced. I bought a Frankenstein pickup in the fall and it’s honestly just ok. Not worth the asking price
🔥🔥🔥🔥
There’s no big difference.
@johnnybeane sent me!
Thank you so much Michael! 🎸
