You know that you really cant afford something when they dont even tell the Price in an LTT video
I assumed it was 1000 dollars
"If you have to ask, you can't afford it"
Just like a lot of their laptop showcase/reviews. If they don't mention a price, expect $2k+.
It's listed at $999 on the Jackery website
Especially considering all this is is a car battery and a 1000w inverter in a fancy case.
We have used the ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxOTeIs0vv4_9B5hsmnLsk9r930uDQLu_Y for probably 30 hours with our camper and it’s been great! The noise level is really only noticeable when running the AC and other appliances like the microwave, hair dryer, or coffee pot. It’s not huge like other ones and it has wheels so even at 90lbs, I can move it!
“Designed by a former Apple engineer”
This is going to be expensive.
Yeah, 1000 USD for a lithium car battery in a case...
@@BilldalSWE There are no lithium car batteries. Cars use lead acid, which is an inherently terrible battery technology for technological uses like this. There are some LiFePo4 batteries for RVs, but they range from 500-1000 USD.
I'm not saying this is reasonably priced, but it's a far shot from a car battery.
@@hunterm9 They were almost certainly referring to the lithium batteries used to power electric cars, not the traditional battery in normal cars for starting the engine etc.
As in a tear-down of a lower capacity version, that person found it to be very similar to those found in electric cars:
ua-cam.com/video/gRhPooSPprY/v-deo.html
The price doesn't actually seem that bad though, and seems fairly similar to other brands.
The 2000W pure sine wave convertor adds a not insignificant cost vs a bare battery.
@@hunterm9 While not common there are 12V LiFePo4 sold as starter batteries. Just google them. Higher power output, lower weight, keeps the charge longer when the car is in storae etc so they are gaining in popularity. Sure, they are much more common as battery banks in boats and RVs because of the price but my point is this is likely an of the shelf product packed in a case for a 100% price increase. Some people might still think it's worth it but it's hardly a revolutionary product like Linus seem to have been payed to say...
@@hunterm9 there are 12v lithium motorcycle and car batteries which many people use. Please educate yourself before commenting.

lol my 650W one can run for about 30-45 minutes, but my pc isn't that power hungry (i5 10400 and RTX 2070S) so I guess it makes sense
@@defeqel6537 wdym, why is that like worthy, it's not like y'all have any power cuts in the first world countries anyway
Impressive energy density in that package. I've used SLA batteries about that size and you only get about 72Wh on them (and they're probably a lot heavier too). 1000Wh in that same package, with 2000W peak/1000W continuous current is INSANE (typically, the downside to using LiPo, or similar, batteries is that the current you can pull from them is substantially lower than less energy-dense alternatives).
I like it, I would love if it had a pass through feature as a battery backup so you can keep it plugged in as power conditioner and backup for your desktop during the week and take it with you on the weekend for camping or tailgating. Great product.

Maybe this was filmed earlier and released later?
I mean it's LTT. A $60k server is not the most insane server they have done. Though for that matter this isn't the most insane battery they have unboxed either. That honor goes to the UPS in their server room, which is as big as a grown man. Or 1.5 Linuses.

I have a jackery Jump starter. I would say its been more than 2 years since Ive had it and until recently it has just started to give out, but it has gone thru a lot of abuse. I use it at work "auto auction" where I get a LOT of cars that come in with dead batteries and it has done a great job at starting most of them. I bought that 1000W back in May for hurricane season here in Puerto Rico, back in September we lost our power and plugged the fridge for almost 8 hours and it worked perfectly. I'm using 3rd party solar panels with Anderson Cables and they work perfect.
Do yall have America's sockets
@@joshentertainment2 Yes.
What are you solar panels out of curiousity ?
@@Klapeful I use some third party panels that I bought on Amazon back in 2017 and with the anderson cables adapters I can plug in the Jackery to them and charge it if necessary. Maybe in a near future I'd buy the Jackery panels which are lighter and very portable.
@@drake8168 Got it, thanks !
Would really love to see you cover the smaller products as well for general viability.
Would love to see an “energy efficient” desktop build to try and get the max gaming time out of the battery and compare it to a “gaming laptop”
You basically just saw that exact same thing. These Jackery amps have solar arrays you can hook up that can basically completely offset the amount of power he was just using. I live the 'digital nomad' life out of a Mercedes Sprinter, and this Jackery plus 4 solar panels keeps my entire 'grid' up. I let it charge while I'm just sitting around or splitting wood for fire or whatever, and I leave the panels plugged in while gaming. I game on an Omen 30L and two 31 inch AOC curved monitors and with my 4 solar panels it charges faster than it consumes. Best part about this set up is that I can even charge it while I'm driving because it came with a 12v cigarette charger. So long story short, with 4 solar panels and having it charge while I drive I use this to power a gaming set up as well as a full 'van life' set up for essentially free.
@@BartonHNewell Hi, first of all excuse m'y english.
I have few questions about how do u use your setup and your "way of vanlife"
I have a pc gamer(less powerful) in my van too but get some issues with battery.
For now i have 350w of Solar and 220ah gel battery.
I hesitate between increase my solar park, or the power station option like this one.

How many hours can you play on without sun ?
Converting from dc to “pure sin-wave ac” then back to dc for the pc and laptop
Wat
Well of course.
You wouldn't want to disassemble your pc to plug in the required 12 volt headers would you?
With the next gen of motherboards might actually get UPS that you plug directly into the case supplying all of the 12 volt you could wish for.
Given laptops often are 18 or 24, they would not be compatible. Unless you have one of the babies with usb type c charging.
Compatability is better than efficiency in a lot of cases. 🤷♂️
I don't think any of the devices tested would have had a problem with cheaper square wave inverter
@@glenmcgillivray4707 Use a buck-boost converter to get the exact voltages.

Pretty cool power unit. Can be really good for those getaway that just requires a little power here and there
I just want to know how long you can power the Live Love Liao light with this.
When my obsessions with van life and technology finally combine
Looking at van battery banks and the know how involved to build one always scared me away. I wonder how long this could run a space heater?
@@jus10beare Just depends on how power hungry your space heater is. But on the explorer 1000 in this video I think 2-4 days continually. But that depends on if you can run it on 12v or if you have to convert it through AC.
Lol! I also was not expecting this out of Linus media group, I mostly see these on vanlife and prepping channels.
"Quadraphonic sound, a water bed and now a strobe light. Gentlemen, say hello to the Second Base Mobile."

YEEEEEES
Oh man this would be so cool for location filmmaking, especially with the solar power aspect. Generators work but they're loud and dirty
I mean, for linus or any other small film making operation this is great. For full budget films, those genny's could run cities (which is basically what they do).
Especially if each battery inside gets its own solar cell itll charge in like 30 minutes and when your done all batteries will stack up again
The solar panels are useless. Not nearly enough power.
That looks similar in size to an equivalent wattage generated. Seems like an extremely versatile tool, however if there is one addition that can make it a life saver, 12v alligator clip port will be super handy to jump start the vehicle.
I have the 1000 and a 500 and use them often with at my storage space as there is no AC power there - I run servers, PCs, Switches/routers/firewalls for hours at a time (I usually get a solid 6 hours on the 1000 alone). Jackery is excellent! Glad to see you guys do a "review" of it!
I work security and have a portable gaming system with a built in monitor. What generator would be good for using to power my 19 inch monitor and my ps4. I'm looking to get atleast 5 hours of gaming time out of it. Is it even possible?

The "On Battery" settings for Windows desktops makes sense now.
It's more useful for a UPS, where you usually have a data hookup between the battery and the desktop that lets it know if it's on battery or mains, and what the remaining runtime is. That way the computer can go into a power-saving mode to extend your runtime, and automatically hibernate when the battery gets low.
@@guspaz Yep! That's how my UPS works with my desktop. The UPS connects to my desktop via USB, and Windows sees it as a battery just like it would if I were running on a laptop. Furthermore I can get stats in HWiNFO64 like power draw, battery %, battery life remaining, etc.
i have it for my ups on the lan party when some idiot flipped the power off
2:23 "You can power anything you want" "120V". Not in Europe, we've got 230V. Correct me If I'm mistaken or something :V
Look at the plugs.
I assume they have a EU version since its just an overgrown power bank with an integrated inverter, and jacking it up to 240 isn't particularly difficult. Linus probably only showcased the 120V version since he has no 240V devices
Pretty sure nearly all of Europe has such little power outages, nobody would think about getting something like this.
North America uses 120volts for a typical wall plug. Europe uses 230-240volts for their wall plugs. I wish 208/230/240 was typical due to amp draw. Note that most homes in the US do have 208/230 volts single phase at their breaker panels which is used for clothes dryers, air conditioner, or other high Amp appliances. I think Canada and Mexico do to. Canada however uses 50hrz whereas US is 60hrz.
Their website is only shipping to Canada, USA and Japan. Looks like the rest of the would just has to try something else out.
I've been thinking about getting one of these for some time because I live in an apartment where we can't have a generator. One or two of these would be really handy in a power outage for running a fan or electric blanket without all the noise of a fuel-burning generator. One of these batteries could run an LED lamp for SEVERAL hours, too.
I’ve had an old Goal Zero version of one of these for several years.

I have 100% considered one of these for camping in my Van. Solar set up to help charge it could be sweeeet. Just to run a small fridge or electric blanket for warmth in winter...
Thanks for being entirely candid on how long the batteries last at various work-loads. *slaps head*. Perhaps a follow up video? I did get a good chuckle from this upload, so thanks.
Its maximum input charge from solar seems to be 200w. (2 x 100w solar panels) I'd like to see that increased to 400w minimum, using 4 of their solar panels or even 600w using 2 x 300w solar panels (standard roof panels). That would give it a 2 to 3 hour recharge and make it a truly viable alternative to a generator when camping for more than 1 day.
I’ve been looking into buying the 250w version for camping. Nice review!
I had this thought too, very useful. Reminds me of my apc battery backup but this one is better. ALso its by apple which increases the cost :(
The only real con I hate about rechargeable batteries, if they are damaged through shipping or quality control issue and you are unaware of any damage, they can explode and basically bleed out a torch like fire out of whatever hole, which scares me about backup batteries lol, as they can burn down your home. This applies to any battery powered device rechargeable anyway, just as your phone.
@@koilamaoh4238 That's what LIPO safes are for. I'd recommend them if you have any of those. If large rechargeable batteries were unsafe, they probably would be much more heavily regulated. Also, all that only applies to lithium batteries, Lead-Acid batteries are pretty safe, but can't hold as much power.
Jason from Byte my bits used this in July or a very similar model in July. He was in love with it and was learning new things about it as he was reviewing it
When he said “will I bring a light” I was hoping he’d bring like a Redhead or a Joker or something. A 120D II isnt exactly as “stress test” as I was hoping but I guess we are moving to more and more LED fixtures on set so it makes sense. You could use this as a flashlight that never runs out of juice ^^

Ran some doom eternal earlier and saw a peak draw of 260w. makes me thing the 600w psu i have in it might be enough for a 3080...if i can get my hands on one!
7:01 .Am I the only one who just stopped listening instantly and watched whatever flew across the screen out of focus?
Unfortunately not
Haha me too! I thought it was smoke from the power station 😂
ghost orb
I did the exact same thing lol
I need a 20 kW version for my home lol
This is awesome a little bit for every type of users
Would love to have one of these for fridge. Do they work in-line?
I feel like if I had this I’d probably only use it to charge my phone
