- This is our Group Reaction & Review to THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG(2009). This movie is set in New Orleans during the 1920s, the film tells the story of a hardworking waitress named Tiana who dreams of opening her own restaurant. After kissing a prince who has been turned into a frog by an evil witch doctor, Tiana becomes a frog herself and must find a way to turn back into a human before it is too late.

Charlotte helps her friend by having her father order food from Tiana’s restaurant.
They are undoubtedly one of the best friendships ever in the Disney universe.
Charlotte is easily the best friend of any Disney movie. She wanted a Prince her whole life, but left her first dance with him to clean Tiana up, she tipped Tiana the money she needed for her restaurant (without need of repayment) because she knew Tiana wouldn’t accept money as a gift so she disguised it as hiring her to cater, she was friends with Tiana despite her skin colour or money which was a huge factor at the time, she refused to marry Navine because she knew Tiana loved him, the list goes on. Also, Charlotte dresses in only pink, so the blue gown she gives Tiana at the party would imply she bought and kept that blue dress specifically for Tia, since Lottie never wears blue

Naveen is actually South Asian. A lot of people think that he's black but there are subtle hints in the movie. His mother is seen wearing a sauri towards the end of the movie.

Charlotte isn't a part of her father's business. She has no power to grant Tiana business opportunities and such especially with the time period. Tiana wouldn't be accepted anyway because doing things with class help or investments would cost you more and could loose alot of respect in her community because she had 'rich friends and shes too good for us'. Loans were WAY TOO EXPENSIVE FOR HER to just purchase the restaurant building.
However, if Charlotte does request something from Tiana she tips BIG and she has a dress suited to Tiana in her wardrobe. They're not the same size, and she probably had it secretly made for her just in case she needed it for the party. After all, it fits her recent measurements. There's little she could've done, but she did respect Tianas choices and supported her dreams over her own. She's humble but enthusiastic and overtly excited. We love to see it. She never even brings up her father's weath to anyone and isn't too bratty. She's just a normal girl who loves poof princess dresses minus the fortune. They would probably also recommend to guests.

Even tho it’s their fault for spoiling and pampering his ass up until he was grown and able, I believe facilier turning him into a frog has humbled him greatly. Especially tiana being the first woman to challenge him, pursue her, and change for the better. Only the right woman would do that
Lottie (Charlotte, the blonde friend) is one of my fav Disney side characters. She's genuinely a good friend, so different from the typical portrayal of what that she could've been. Being spoiled and rich didn't mean she wasn't a good person, which I absolutely LOVED.
Also, as a POC Tiana was always one of my all time fav princesses (Second only to Jasmine)
Also because of the time in this movie if lottie gave the money with out Tina working for let's say the other rich people wouldn't like that
I also love the Tiana-Navine contrast as the star couple. As they’re both POC but one was born in an unfortunate position while the other was born with money and privilege. It sets a neutral tone that is very hard to pull off and they did it right and that’s why I love this movie
Lotte always struck me as a person who truly means well and regards Tiana as her own sister but can't read social cues for shit
Prince Naveen is actually from a fictional country inspired by South Asia. His mother wears a Sari which is a traditionally worn by Indian, Nepalese, and Pakistani women

Charlotte is a real one. Shes my favorite character in this movie. All she wanted her whole life was true love but at the same time she didnt sacrifice her loved ones dream to fullfil her own wish. Shes a very well written character of disney

Lottie’s father is voiced by the same actor who voiced Pacha from Emperor’s New Groove. Also the two stars at the end are a reference to Peter Pan “second star on the right and straight on till morning.”

Guys, Naveen is south asian. (even tho he is from a fictional country) I also find it annoying how people always seem to talk about Charlotte more than anything else in this movie. Like she's a great friend and they decided to make a rich white dude, not racist, like amazing(Her father btw). It's like that's the only thing people focused on.

@@Zamalie It’s probably in direct response to the early judgments of her, like, before Naveen or Tiana get frogged. Early on, it sounds like they’re writing Charlotte off as not being as-good a friend as she “could” be, like _as_ she’s doing things to help her friend out.

Naveen is form a made up country but the people seems to be ethnically similar to real world India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. At the end his mother is seen wearing a saree. It makes Tiana a black woman and Naveen a brown man.

Lottie is a good friend, she knows Tiana wouldn't accept the money unless she a reason, so by making her make beignes she had a reason to give her money and help her out. Tiana is all about hard work so she wouldn't had accepted if lottie gave it to her without reason, and she also had a dress prepared for Tiana in her size, because Tiana is taller and has a different figure than Lottie. so best supporter friend.
Charlotte is a real one
South accents have been influenced by a variety of languages. The Appalachian parts large influence of Irish/Scottish, the boondocks areas you get French, Creole, Native American, Caribbean countries influence, some Spanish-primarily towards Texas and a bit of Florida. The accents even vary from city south to the Deep South and there are islands around the coasts which have their own take on the accents. It is a culture as rich as gumbo and jambalaya and all that is southern unique.
As for Charlotte not giving Tiana money- stereotypically southerners are intensely proud and dont accept charity-often, only during natural disasters or somebody needs a helping hand. There is an episode in Falcon and Winter Soldier were southerners come to help Sam with his boat and that to me showed one of the great beauties of the South. Charlotte has likely wanted to help Tiana but knew the girl wanted to make her own path and as others pointed she tipped her large amounts when dining and her and her father were dining at lower class restaurants willingly and helping her when they could.

Fun Fact : Prince Naveen is not of African decent. He is actually of Creole decent; the prince is from Maldonia which is South Asian decent. I always thought the prince was African-American until I was told different and did some research on it.

Usually for investments back then, it would be more stable to put money into a building Tiana already has. She didn't have that yet so it's a financially wise decision to pu money into the littler things that can help her save up like Charlotte's dress and Tianas catering instead of getting business elsewhere.

Lottie is extremely spoiled and seemly self-centered, but she has a good heart and really cares about Tiana and the less fortunate. Her father did something right in raising her. I'm sure Lottie's kind, appreciative, and generous to their servants too. She really is a sweet and kind girl despite being spoiled.
You guys should react to The Hunchback of Notre Dame, the Disney one of course, I think you guys might enjoy it.
And Lottie is, hands down, the best side character in the movie. She was a spoiled rich girl, but she was not selfish or mean, I like her a lot.
Rich parents who just cut the kids off are not really taking responsibility for their actions as parents. How do you expect a child/ adult to function when they as parents haven’t set boundaries and taught them basic skills to at least get by.
Happened to me. We're not rich but my parents basically did everything for me and then they cut me off once I reach 18 and that's when I realized I don't know how to do anything and was socially stunted.

your mentality is just as ignorant if not more. in a lot of cases many ppl aka those that come from marginalised groups don't have the privilege or ability to get good jobs to actually earn an upper class lifestyle unless they manage to do it unethically or by selling themselves. some of them fall into unfortunate situations that are practically inescapable for them and it's not even their own faults. if you've got tons of money naturally or through hard work then you really don't have much to lose at the end of the day... i promise it won't k!ll you whatsoever to give to those in need whenever you can. obviously you aren't OBLIGATED to give money but it's the decent thing to do when you're practically rolling around in it

I hate how whenever someone mention the princess and the frog or watch it all the comments are about lottie..We have one Black princess that is the main lead and the main character but yet the white goofy girl gets more hyped for being a “great friend” as if there was never a friend like her in Disney like be fr I love lottie but y’all make this movie about her I thought this was a tiktok thing but whenever I see someone react to this movie all the comments are ab her & that’s what also happened here 80% of the comments are about her

It’s because it’s already known how great tiana is, so people didn’t feel the need to state the obvious. Most of the people talking about lottie are usually correcting those who think she’s bad. People are surprised that it’s not the cliche rich character that equals bad.

Let’s stop trying to put real life issues into comments and theories about people’s intentions over an animated movie. They already explained all their intentions when talking about Lottie, you just wanna believe whatever you want to believe. It also shows that you have a naturally pessimistic mindset, since your first thought is negativity instead of wanting to spread positivity by making comments for Tiana. Nobody who talked about Lottie in a positive light, said anything about her being white. The only thing they mentioned was about her being rich and not evil. It also doesn’t help, that you didn’t really help your point- you wanna talk about not wanting Lottie’s name in the comments but you also won’t just dedicate an entire comment to Tiana like you wanted. Save those theories and defense for bigger issues in the real world ACTUALLY involving race, rather than some guesses about comments about a fictional character.
