The Princess And The Frog Movie Description:
The film stars the voices of Anika Noni Rose, Bruno Campos, Michael-Leon Wooley, Jim Cummings, Jennifer Cody, John Goodman, Keith David, Peter Bartlett, Jenifer Lewis, Oprah Winfrey, and Terrence Howard. Set in New Orleans during the 1920s, the film tells the story of a hardworking waitress named Tiana who dreams of opening her own restaurant. After kissing a prince who has been turned into a frog by an evil witch doctor, Tiana becomes a frog herself and must find a way to turn back into a human before it is too late.
The Princess and the Frog began production under the working title The Frog Princess. It marked Disney's brief return to traditional animation, as it was the mainstream animation studio's first traditionally animated film since Home on the Range (2004). Clements and Musker, directors of Disney's highly successful films The Little Mermaid (1989), Aladdin (1992), and Hercules (1997) returned to Disney to direct The Princess and the Frog. The studio returned to a Broadway musical-style format frequently used during the Disney Renaissance, and the film features a score and songs written, composed, and conducted by composer, singer-songwriter, and pianist Randy Newman, well known for his musical involvement in Pixar films such as the Toy Story franchise.
The Princess and the Frog opened in limited release in New York City and Los Angeles on November 25, 2009, and in wide release on December 11, 2009. The film received largely positive reviews from critics and audiences, praising the animation (particularly the revival of the medium), characters, music, and themes, and was also successful at the box office, ranking first place on its opening weekend in North America, and grossing around $271 million worldwide becoming Disney’s most successful traditionally animated film since Lilo & Stitch in 2002, and the animation studio’s most successful film overall since Tarzan in 1999, ten years earlier. It received three Oscar nominations at the 82nd Academy Awards: one for Best Animated Feature and two for Best Original Song. It lost to Up and Crazy Heart, respectively.

I love how Charlotte is spoiled rotten, but she is so kind and generous and a great friend.
Yeah that was kind of refreshing to see.
Same, I was about to say the same thing. She’s a spoiled brat but she’s a good friend, willing to take care of her friend first and also willing to give up her dream of being a princess for her friend. Charlotte is ride or die.
Same, they really made her the perfect balance of self absorbed and kind without making her annoying.
I have such strong feelings about this. Their friendship is one of the strongest in all of Disney. Lottie giving up her dreams immediately as soon as she has a chance to help Tiana. Instantly leaving the party and her guests to help Tiana after she hit the floor- having a dress in Tia’s size (and clearly not princess pink) just waiting for her in the closet, overpaying for her to cater the ball just because you know Tiana wouldn’t accept otherwise… Anyway, like I said, strong feelings about their beautiful friendship. 😅
She is "Speedwagon", incarnated; truely helpful.
I believe Evangeline was an actual firefly and Ray's girlfriend, she became a star when she died. That's why Ray ended up in the sky with her.
Yep I said the same to my hubby the other night when we watched it. :)
Tbh I think we will learn more about it in the movie Wish coming out about the wishing star because Ray’s star is the second star the leads Peter Pan to Neverland so I think Disney already has the history thought out
@@V_4_Versace that will be the movie that connects everything.
@@V_4_Versace That or Evangeline and Ray are the twin sun's of Tatooine. 🤣 I know they aren't.
@@V_4_Versace no neverland is second star to the right and straight on till morning. rays star is on the left so actually evageline is the one leading them to neverland.
calling a parent "Big Daddy" was a pretty common thing in Ye Olde South. My great granny from Tennessee showed us a picture of her father once and she called *him* Big Daddy as well. Everyone did.
I want to bring this back mostly because I think it’s sooo funny 😭 my southern friends always get so mad at me when I ask how they big daddy or they big momma is doing 🤣😂
This reminds me of that scene from Scary Movie 2
@@V_4_Versace I guess it depends on where they're from. Where I'm from we still say stuff like that
It's also a term of endearment. People see you as someone noticeable and important to the community, so they give you a title.
Yeah I called my grandmother and grandfather big daddy and big mama. Born and raised in Tx.
Tiana became a princess, so her "place" became her palace!
Interesting! I was wondering why the name changed from the lil paper she had, thought i was the only one who saw that
omg ive seen this a million times and never noticed
Fun fact: the medal Tiana's father has next to his picture is the Distinguished Service Cross which is the second highest military award that anyone can get while serving in the United States military & he not just won it in WW1 but as a black man around 1917-1918. Man dis something so badass they couldn't deny him.
Heartwarming fact: Jim Cummings the voice of Ray said that he took this movie cuz he's a New Orleans native & Tiana reminded him of his daughters
Earned not won.
That’s a really fun and heartwarming fact
Fun fact about Princess and the Frog: it was the first Disney animated film where all of the voice actors for the characters also did the singing for their characters. In previous films, there was always at least one character who had separate actors doing the speaking and singing roles. It's now pretty much the norm that the voice actors will also do all of their own singing.
And it was officially the last 2D animated Disney movie.
What about the Winnie the Pooh movie from 2011
@@Friendomationsbut Tiana was the last original character
@@DORAisD34D oh
@@DORAisD34DMirabel , Raya , Moana ?
Back to Lion King when they were lying in the grass talking about stars and Timon said “They’re fireflies that got stuck up in that big bluish black thing” also Ray’s star is the second star that leads Peter Pan to Neverland, both the stars are present in the Tinker Bell movies too ❤️
And now there is a movie coming out about the wishing star.
Wait what?! I never connected the dots like that...wow!!!
@@RedRoseSeptember22 y ah the star that many Disney characters wished on is the same star which is the story of the Disney princess film that comes out next year Wish
Shut up I'm not crying you are
So that means Evangeline is the Wishing Star Geppetto Wished upon to make Pinocchio a real boy.
I still cry over Ray and Evangeline's story...and Lotti is one of my favorites. She's absolutely a spoiled mess, but she supports and loves her friend!
I always sob buckets when Ray dies :(
Remember sobbing when Ray died still get me teary eyed cl
same, i couldn’t stand how much he hated on Ray😭😂
I think it's beautiful too how Ray and Evangeline's stars are a reference to the stars that Wendy, the boys and Peter fly towards in Peter Pan on the way to Neverland.
The death of at least one parent is a common trope in Disney films. Walt Disney's Mom died as the result of a gas leak shortly after his parents bought their house.
The fake beauty mark, or Mouches, stems from French fashion during the 18th century (1700's), and were often used to cover smallpox scars. Funny that this is brought up because Louisiana was bought from the French First Republic in 1803.
I thought both of his parents died and he was the one that bought the house- but I could be making things up
@@cleverusername8319 It was just his mother who died and, yes, he purchased the house. He felt tremendous guilt after that.
the medal on her father's picture is the Distinguished Service Cross- it's the second highest honor the military awards, for extreme heroism in combat.
Thanks for sharing this :D
I had no idea. Thank you for sharing that. :')
Thanks for sharing
Yeah, Anika Noni Rose has an amazing singing voice, she was perfect for Tiana.
Lmao imagine Beyoncé voiced as Tiana XD given the fact that she was from the South and she a powerhouse
@@blee1997 Yeah, but Beyoncé's voice is too noticeable and too strong for Tiana, I think.
@@blee1997 Not saying Beyonce would be a bad choice, but I think Anika was better for this role.
Bruh I knew they sang but I didn't remember it to be this amazing. She's easily the best singer as princess Disney's had
Moment he said “you know Disney and daddys” lol that got me big time😂
Everyone mentions Tiana’s dead dad, but no one mentions Charlotte’s mom is dead. Sure you could make excuses for her not being in most of the film, but she would absolutely have been at her daughter’s wedding. 1920’s New Orleans there’s no way she would have even been able to divorce Big Daddy. So this Disney movie actually gives us a dead dad and a dead mom.
Dr. Facillier is in my top 3 Disney villians alongside Scar and Ursula.
All 3 of them were so damn ruthless and deliciously evil 😈😭 and had THE BEST villian songs.
The one superiority the Dr has over Ursula (though she'll always have the advantage of being inspired by the drag queen of the century Divine) is that he doesn't let his customers see the fine print
It helps that Dr. Facillier is voiced by Keith David, who brought some incredible gravitas to the role.
Voiceplay did an incredible cover of "Friends On the Other Side" - it's here on UA-cam if you want to check it out!
What about Jafar and Hades?
Hades is my favorite lol, Ursula is a close second!!!
Lottie (Charlotte, the blonde friend) is one of my fav Disney side characters. She's such a good friend, so different from the typical portrayal of what that she could've been. Being spoiled and rich didn't mean she wasn't a good person, which I absolutely LOVED.
Also, as a POC Tiana was always one of my all time fav princesses (Second only to Jasmine)
Yup,fact that they didn't killed all the humanity in her completely is definitely a fresh take
I love her for the reason to, plus she’s bombastic and funny.
It’s crazy that u said that she sounded like Beyoncé bc the actress that plays Tiana (Anika Noni Rose) played in a movie called Dreamgirls alongside Beyoncé, Jennifer Hudson, and Jamie Foxx 3 years earlier. I highly recommend it. It’s a great movie❤
Yessss, watch Dreamgirls!!
She also played jukebox on power.
Beyonce was actually offered the role of Tiana but she turned it down because she didn't want to be casted for a movie simply because she was "famous" even if she was a good voice actor.
Love the morale and ethics ❤
"Friends on the Other Side" is one of my favorite villain songs, honestly. Plus, I love Keith David.
It is. It's a good karaoke song as well
Every time I call out to my kids to get in the car I ask "are ya ready?"
And they answer back "are ya REEEEEEADY??" LOL 😆 🤣 😂
@@kylaarmstrong-benjamin8066 You got some good ones. :P
He’s so charismatic and fun
Same
Mell: Don't bring a frog around me! I'll kill a frog!
Also Mell 2 minutes later: That guy's making a big deal over some frogs.
🤣🤣🤣
Notre Dame is without a doubt one of the darkest Disney movies ever produced
and the score for it is phenomenal. My two absolute favourite songs being Hellfire and Bells of Notre Dame
Being born and raised in Louisiana I have no trouble understanding Raymond but it’s so funny and interesting to see someone not from Louisiana’s perspective 😂
MAN really , I didn’t think the southern culture would be so confusing for someone else
Agreed I'm watching this and looking at Mell like bro ear drums are malfunctioning lmbo!!
I got family from there, and it was fun going to Baton Rouge in summer 2022, or 2023. Lol
Love how everyone sees Facilier’s death as something creepy
But instead of being shook, Mell laughs 😂
Facillier is creepy in general , when I first saw this I was startled
@@U-Gozoolol
I read somewhere that Disney’s mom had died in a house fire while he and his dad were able to escape. He felt like it was his fault that his mom died. So that’s why in Disney movies there’s only one parent
So refreshing to see a happy black family and a rich spoiled girl thats actually a good friend and not a bad person
I love this movie ^^
Btw, an all white face and some beauty marks were a sign of royalty
Back then in Europe and Asia, a person who's skin was not subjected to sunlight like farmers were, was therefore seen as well-off since they didn't have to work apparently.
The name of Tiana's restaurant isn't a typo. It was "Tiana's Place" at the start of the movie, but at the end when she becomes a princess and finally buys the building she names it "Tiana's Palace", fittingly.
This is in my favorites from Disney. Love the gator and Ray. Probably helps being a trumpet player myself. Disney always makes fun side characters. I also like the idea that being royalty isn't always good, and a person worthy of royalty can come from anywhere.
Belle, Merida, and Tiana are my favorite princesses in the Disney library. This was the last hand animated movie Disney Studios did, and it's gorgeous. I really hope Disney lets their animators release a traditional animation here and there, if just to keep the art alive.
as an animation student who’s very enthusiastic when it comes to 2D animation i agree. there’s nothing better than traditional Disney and i believe they switched to 3D because it’s become pretty popular, and it’s also ‘easier’ and slightly cheaper than 2D. with 3D you create a model and essentially do everything with it, you don’t have to keep redrawing. don’t get me wrong, 3D animation still takes a lot of time and a lot of money but generally it’s easier and often quicker to produce 3D than it is 2D.
I love the constant confusion on his face when ray talks. Like I got family that talks like ray and it so clear to me but his face is hilarious!😂😂
I was full blown sobbing when Raymond died 😂😂😂😂
"Why're you calling your dad Big Daddy?"
It's a New Orleans thing lol
Absolutely great animated the movie! One of the last great 2D classicly animated movies
Heyyy Cody! :)
Mama Odie already knew that the spell would break if Naveen and Tiana married as frogs, then kissed- since that would make her a princess. So she waited til they fell for each other on their own
21:16 his parents straight up threw him into a fire without teaching him anything and without money. Also remember the beginning of the movie he was told he had two options; marry a rich girl or get a job
Ray and Evangeline 's story is so beautiful, yes I teared up when Ray died. I truly enjoyed this movie and I loved how supportive Charlotte was of Tiana's dreams, she offered Tiana the money when her and big daddy were in the restaurant, but Tiana didn't accept her money, she wanted to work for it.just how her father taught her.fyi Tiana was voiced by Anika Noni rose.and yes that is Keith David as doctor facilier, who creepped me out the first time I seen this movie. I have to say this movie was a great adaptation of the frog and the princess story. Great reaction. Miracles and blessings to you and yours ✌️.
I'm from New Orleans, born & raised. Unfortunately yes it is a dangerous place according to nonsensical violence. But this movie was very accurate to food, accents, culture & southern hospitality. Please pray for us to do better for New Orleans.
I love NOLA culture and its history - makes me sad to see its potential being overshadowed by crime. It should be a bigger modern art hub like NYC, LA, and Chicago in my opinion (though those cities are dangerous too.)
@ktlg
Thank u!🙏🏽
I fell in love with New Orleans when it has so much love & potential! But right now it is so much toxic! I love the food & the people, but the crime made me stay inside for my safety, especially for my friends & family members from out of states!
Thank u for ur time for ur comment! 💜🙏🏽
@@tracyleesmith781 I feel that. I hope it gets better 🙏 It should get more credit from music world. I would love to see it grow again as it once was. Rooting for you guys!
@@ktlg1423
Thank u🙏🏽💜💚💛
I think if Tiana had asked Charlotte or big Daddy for the money they would've given it to her gladly because they're good people at heart (rich and Charlotte is really spoiled but still good at heart) but she didn't want to be in debt to them (though if it was a gift there'd be no debt) or to make it look like she needed help, she wanted to get there through her own work and not through what some might see as charity.
Taking money from Charlotte for the party however that didn't count as being in debt or receiving charity because then she'd do work through her cooking and get paid for it.
Ray says "Go to bed, y'all from Shreveport!?" and every person from Ratchet City USA was like "BET!" 😂😂😂 including me
Tatiana is my favorite princess strong, independent, beautiful singer, and hard working. Also love the music in this movie.
*Tiana. 😉
And she teaches little girls you don't need some dick head guy in your life BUT true love is hard and rare to find so if you do there's nothing wrong with taking it and holding on to it
The way I see it, the “Tiana’s Place/Tiana’s Palace” thing was completely intentional - Tiana’s dream is more complete at the end of the movie because she shares it with Naveen now.
when i saw he reacted to tangled i SEARCHED for the princess and the frog video. PATF is my genuine comfort movie it makes me so happy and content- the song- the characters- the character development- THE ANIMATION!!! oh my gosh this movie is wrapped around my finger 😭🤚
Mel’s reaction to everybody coming to eat the gumbo was hilarious to me. People might find it weird to randomly go over to a neighbors house for food, but that’s EXACTLY how it is in the South! You made food? We gon eat it😂 it also brings people together
5:33 bro went off on a tangent on a hypothetical. Lol This is the shit I love about Mello. 🤣💯
"That's like a snack bruh."
Apparently alligators don't digest food like humans do. If they had similar diets, they would become obese extremely quickly.
I did not know that...
Fun fact: beyonce was actually supposed to play tiana, but when they told her she would have to audition and didn't just get the role straight away she turned it down. And thats why i love the woman who actually sings these songs so much. Anika had admittedly very big shoes to fill in the eyes of disney and her singing voice genuinely is so amazing that i kinda think she would have gotten the part anyway tbh.
"They're fireflies. They're fireflies that got stuck up in that big bluish black thing."
I'm 27 years old and am just getting the connection.
I had the same reaction at the start of the credits when I first watched this movie "is that ne-yo????" LOL
Walt Disney started the passed parent troupe because he lost his mother at a very young age, he thought it was important for kids to face stuff like that in a kind, not scary way, and then once he died, they just kept going with the characters losing parents 😂
Very young age? Wasn't he 37?
Charlotte is the best "best friend" character in Disney. She's spoiled rotten, but over and over when she sees Tiana in trouble, she drops what she wants and helps her without question.
Dr. Facilier is one of my favorite Disney villains, which is mostly due to his design and Keith David's voice acting.
“She’s making gumbo, what’s she 6 years old?” Lololol Cute movie 🍿
Ray's passing always brings a tear. Even my 7 year old cried with us the first time we watched this.
As a Louisiana native, this soundtrack is 🔥🔥
So. Apparently there’s a theory that dr faciller is mama oldie’s son, and the snake is his dad he turned into a snake took his fangs and wears them around his neck. 😊 i don’t like frogs either, my cousins kept throwing one on me and I threw it at a wall. Also I did cry when ray died.
that theory makes a load of sense
@@louiseabrams8366 I thought the same as well.
I love this movie ❤️ The part where Ray joins Evangeline in the sky always gets me 🥲 and the part when Tiana names her restaurant palace instead of place is intentional 😊
I laughed too hard at “you sure it wasn’t already chipped” Lol
It's even funnier to hear that he has a favorite tooth.
Marilyn Monroe’s beauty mark was real. She used to cover it with makeup early in her career.
Even though it was a year ago, no the beauty mark wasn't real. She started putting it on during her peak career.
I'd have loved to have seen Laurence explain all of this in court.
Side note, he's a completely different from the prince's servant in the original Grimm's brothers version of 'The Frog Prince' (where rather than a kiss from a princess being what can cure him, the cure is this one particular princess herself and she ends up breaking it by picking him up and throwing him, frog hits the wall, prince hits the floor) who after the prince is transformed wears three iron bars around his heart (either literally or around his chest) which all break when his heart breaks of joy when the prince is freed from his curse.
“Tiana’s mom sounds familiar. I know that voice”. It’s literally Oprah. Made me chuckle 😂😊
The way Mellow keeps coming after Ray😭he’s my favorite leave him alone 🤧
New Orleans Creole I have always felt was one of the most beautiful of the north American subcultures. The history, the food, the music… And they were always ahead of the curve as far as social progress. This movie portrays New Orleans from 1912-1920 when Jim Crow laws were still in full effect. Meanwhile, New Orleans challenged segregation and had mixed-race neighborhoods, bands and social clubs.
This led to one of history’s most influential music genres in the birth of Jazz.
I love how this is like 1920’s or 1930’s New Orleans. I love that time period.
I related to little Tiana so much. I started cooking very very young, and made my first Sunday roast dinner for a family of four, entirely unassisted, when I was eight years old. Now, feeding the people in my life is how I show them I love them.
Mama Odie is legit the best character in the movie. She never ceases to make me laugh. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
That little rant in the beginning about friends begging for help after you make it sounded a little personal Mello 😂😂😂😂
Tiana is played by Anika Noni Rose. She is in Dream girls with Beyonce and Jennifer Hudson. She plays Laurel and she is also in For Colored Girls as well.
I love that Mell’s intro looks like he’s bathing in the glory of an undefeated army
The disrespect to Ray is gone make me cry 😭😭
Your reaction to this movie had me cracking up! I want a friend like Lottie!!
Please please reach to the show Wednesday. It’s about Wednesday Addams. And maybe the 2 live action movies after. 💜 much love for Mellow
Till this day, this is my favorite Disney soundtrack. Down In New Orleans, Almost There, Friends on the Other Side, When We’re Human, Ma Belle Evangeline, DIG A LITTLE DEEPER- there’s not a single song in this movie that makes me wanna skip, I adore them all!
Lottie is one of my favourite animated characters full stop. She's a little ditzy and spoilt, but neither of these hold her back from being such a good friend to Tiana.
And for anyone wondering why Lottie didn't just give Tia the money for the restaurants straight out, Tiana apparently wanted to earn it herself. Being able to cook the beignets for the event was finally a good reason for Lottie to hand the cash over!
Every time he does his intro I do a air drum roll I can’t help it 😭💀
Lmao yooo all the dad jokes in the beginning were fucking killing me 😂😂😂😂
Yay my favorite disney movie! I love Mama Odie and her song lol
Ray and Evangeline gets me every time. I love his song for her and all the fireflies knew how much he loved her.
Dang dude that rant you went on in the beginning about Tiana's two jobs hilarious!!! 😂 Awesome reaction overall man!
This movie got me to try making beignets. So far I’ve had two unsuccessful attempts and just made bite-sized fried dough you’d find at a cheap carnival.
As for favorite Disney princess, had a big crush on Belle as a kid, but also gotta give it to Rapunzel. She’s a fun character and a go-getter.
Tiana has the most realistic initial reaction to the talking frog out of anyone in the world.
I'm a 41 yr old guy and this is one of my favorite Disney movies, thanks for doing the reaction ✌️❤️
Ray was voiced by Jim Cummings, so i am willing to pet voiced your childhood as much as he did mine. He is such a talented voice actor.
Did anyone else think when Ray became a star it looked like the 2 stars from petter pan!?? Second star to the right stright on till morning
I love this movie!!! I even named my car Evangeline 😂
Girl 😂
That’s cute
it was called tiana’s place before because she wasn’t a princess. at the end they changed it to tiana’s palace because she’s a princess now :)
My favorite Disney princess was Cinderella bc of how nice and kind she was and ofc I loved her dress and I always wanted glass slippers lol. And I just admired how pretty she was too me, but I always try to live by her motto, to be kind to people even when they aren’t kind to you bc in the end my kindness will be rewarded just like hers was☺️
That had me dying😂💀I can’t stop laughing🤣lol 23:11
My favorite princesses are Tiana, Pocahontas, Snow White, Mulan and Jasmine. Tiana and Pocahontas are my top two. I went to Disney and met Tiana and prince Navine. That was my highlight of my trip!
Damn I’m jealous! I did meet Merida from brave though, so that was definitely a highlight for me at Disney World. And Daisy Duck hugged me randomly which was nice.
9:00 - a really cool detail during this bit is the wallpaper behind him within his shadow changes to a skull and crossbones
28:24 There's the key being behind the lock, and then there's smashing the door to get the key so you can unlock the door.
New Orleans is so much Fun. My Husband and I went the End of October. We never felt unsafe, had an absolute blast, and can't wait to go back. John Goodman (Lottie's dad) has a house in New Orleans we saw it on one of our tours
I enjoy your reactions particularly because you seem to be having so much fun and getting so much out of it. A lot of these movies don't get the love and respect they deserve so it's really nice to see people spreading the love. You make me laugh a ton too 😁
"I got messed up by the system, bitch. What do you think happened?"

You know what... I did notice that everyone has a song in this movie except for Naveen. Naveen just plays guitar for the band. Not saying it's a bad thing, but I didn't notice it until recently.
I hadn't noticed how Naveen looks at Facilier thr first time they meet. What was that "ouh" face 😂?
One of my favorite movies. My family (both sides) is from Louisiana so I understand Ray perfectly and it reminds me of my family 💚💚
What the Fenner Brothers meant with "a woman of your background" is that in 1920's (the time period this movie is set in) black people weren't treated very well and racisim towards them was prety much common. Even in the Disney shorts of the 1930's had blackface and racial stereo types, such as in Mickey's Mellerdrammer where Mickey puts on blackface to portray one of the characters in Uncle Tom's Cabin, and even in Dumbo in The Song of the Roustabouts, you see the workers that put up the tents (whose are black men), parts of the lyrics goes: "We work all day, we work all night. We never learned to read or write.", When other folks have gone to bed. We slave until we're almost dead", "We don't know when we get our pay. And when we do, we throw our pay away". If that's not racial stereotype of black people, then I don't know what is.
Even though slavery weren't a thing anymore, thanks to Abraham Lincoln during the 19:th century, most black people back then got low income jobs and therefore poor and only could afford to live in small houses at best, usually in those types of neighborhoods shown in this movie. The few lucky ones that did get a good life where big names such as Louis Armstrong, Cab Calloway, Ella Fritzgard, Count Basie and Fats Waller, but still had to be put up with racism until the 1960's when african-american civil rights movements started protesting, leading to a more tolerant society.
