      RCR knows the word detent! I knew the word detent growing up because my dad used it. When I got to college, nobody else knew the word detent! It bugged me so much I actually had a brief period where I went around campus asking classmates and sometimes strangers _"do you know the word detent?"_ and NOBODY DID! Blew my dang mind.

    • @vladx2
      @vladx2 3 роки тому +19

      Because the lack of detents, the door motor holds the door in place so it doesn’t fall back closed when you’re parked on a slope. The motor feels when you start pushing the door and lets go. What you need to do is give it a short little push, then wait half a second while the motor feels that and lets go, then you can move it freely. If you push continuously the motor just thinks it’s the wind or gravity and holds the door in place.
      It’s the ‘you’re holding it wrong” of doors.

      On top of that, the X is more than 2 years' salary for most, and for what benefit over the Y? Meme doors? Maybe it's more reasonable in California where cost of living and average pay are crazy high, but everywhere else it just isn't reasonable.

      Tesla is losing that fight and they better give up. Physically Tesla are easy to fix are require far less proprietary physical tools. It's just heinous road blocks in software that cause problems. There is not much we can do about Parts Supply, the entire industry is having problems. But Tesla better allow more open ability to fix your own car and at least pay for the service manuals.

    My big question with Teslas and other new cars with extreme cutting edge tech, is will they make it to the used market and actually be feasible to drive? Not to mention batteries being a concern, (although in ten or fifteen years when a car like this becomes "affordable" I hope we've at least sorta figured that out) but what about the complex computer systems? What happens if a screen or two goes out? Is that gonna be a thousand dollar part? Those door motors can't be cheap to replace, and what if it turns out they are a part that fails like power window regulators from the nineties? What if Tesla decides to stop doing software updates for old models and the car gets all buggy? I had a couple cell phones that have done that in recent memory. Nothing wrong with the phone, just no more software updates so features just stop working.
    Tesla is probably not too worried about this now, but it's a huge concern for renewable energy vehicles. If cars become a throwaway item like cell phones, most of the environmental advantages to driving them will go away, and then what's the point?

I genuinely forget that I have a car at my parents house when I'm able to just walk to everything I'd ever need and take a train or tram to everything else. It's so walkable here that before I went home at christmas last year on winter break from uni that I hadn't set foot in any mode of transport save for my bike since August and honestly hadn't missed on anything (probably because everything was shut).
      The point I think that is being made is that the hot air about EVs being the future that some cling on to is very evidently not true. They're just like normal cars and this video shows that normalisation and rationalisation like no other. They aren't some herald of a world saving future, they're a desperate cling onto the status quo to justify its continuation. Don't get me wrong, rural towns and sparse areas will need vehicles like this, but everyone living in suburban and urban areas should see the OP's post as their future, not some chintzy electric crossover.

    I feel like these things are gonna be a giant mess in 15 years. Just one massive electrical problem. Not as in "all electric cars are bad." But more they are all gimmick and very little quality.

      Although I'm not a fan of Teslas (does disgusting body gaps) you can't really claim this. We're no longer running risks like the Navi in an e38 750iL. The technology has been here for ages.

    • @bindingcurve

      @@THEJPR I think he is referring to the doors and other equipment, not the drive train. But they already are having issues with unbalanced battery packs with a 20K+ replacement cost. When they are 10-15 years old that will total them out.

      Dude that battery pack is dead written off in over 15 years. Just hope a 100kwh battery is not crazy expensive by then. This can improve greatly in 15 years.

      Naw. You have to look at a tesla tear down video to know why you are wrong.
      If anything happens, it would be Tesla inc. Throttling the vehicle's programing to make the owner get rid of the car.

    The problem I have with these cars is that people drive them pretending to be saving the planet. You don’t buy a Tesla to save the planet. It’s like the guy that buys a big truck to daily and claims he needed a truck to do truck stuff. No, you got it because you like it, you think it’s cool, and it makes you happy. Just admit that you drive a Tesla because the falcon doors are cool and it goes fast.

    You can buy a Comma 3 for $2,300 or a Comma 2 for $1,200, running OpenPilot software, and put it in a vehicle equipped with modern driver assist systems (adaptive cruise control/lane keeping assist) and it will give you comparable “self-driving” capabilities to Tesla’s standard Autopilot. The version that they don’t charge an additional $10,000 to activate.
