That Raven seemed like a night and day difference compared to the 2016 MX review you did.
I can't wait to get my X!! Thanks for the great reviews!
The S and X need wrestling and an update inside and out (rear especially). Dechromed and graphite or black wheels.
Bruh u send EXACTLY like Will Smith
*sound
So every time you slow up you hear that motor. Interesting. 👍
Model Y and 3 have what feels like no shocks at all. My brother just got a Y and he's very disappointed driving in NYC, it's like sitting on a frying pan.
Yes they are both on coil suspension which isn't the most comfortable. X is by far the most comfortable Tesla and takes on NYC no problem with the adaptive suspension and damping.
We have a X100D production date November 2018 with 8,000 miles on the clock, we still have electric headrests the only difference is that the front motor, we took a test drive in February seemed almost the same car but you are right about that front motor it is a bit noisy, still have the matt carbon fiber which i do like a lot , The only thing we are waiting for is the install of HW3 then the car will be up to date .
Do you have the adaptive suspension damping?
@@BlackTesla I do not think so ,it says on the notes auto Air Suspension ,5 different height levels also works with gps. whats the difference ? ,the one we took for a test drive last year in February seemed the same .what dose adaptive suspension damping do ? sounds a new update on your new car.
Man, you should have tagged this an ASMR video, so soothing ;)
Enjoyed the video. I have a 2020 X as well and have noticed issues with the infotainment center. Can’t sign in to UA-cam, software issue that is still unresolved; can’t easily back out of Netflix or other theater app - I have to put the car in gear to get the screen to revert to operational mode. The server doesn’t support Amazon Prime videos. Took it on a 6,000 road trip and the AC system partially failed during the hottest season of the year. Turns out it was overcharged at the factory, so all that was necessary was to discharge it and recharge to specifications. Overall, the BEST CAR we have ever owned!!
Congrats and glad you stuck with it.
I wish they had horizontal screen

Hey, nice review! I am currently starting my search for the right EV and i seem to gravitating to the MX. I just came across your review it is one of the best. Concise and and clear. Good pacing as well and very informative. Hope to make that move on the 2023 or 2024 in the new year. We'll see... Either way, thanks for this so far and looking to see more from you!!
I don’t know where you’re living but this is definitely a great place and a nice playground to test cars. Nice série of 3 posts. Thank you Sir.
Thanks for watching
Thanks! Excellent review. We have a ‘16 90D and have 90,000 grinning miles on it! Looking at a 2021 maybe in Feb...
Congrats you will LOVE the new X...minus the front seat comfort compared to the 16, but then again it might still feel better than 90k miles worth of use 😉.
Are you leasing or did you purchase /loan the car?
@@evilphuk we bought both...
The noise you’re talking about with the permanent magnet motor might be the new noisemaker they added for pedestrians.
Its not. I believe the noisemaker is in reverse only for model 3 and y. The noise im hearing is definitely the motor for HOLD mode. When we turn off HOLD mode it goes away.
Meguiar PlastX - gets rid of any scratches on the black ash and you can’t seem to damage it- use it on my Model S to keep it scratch free!

New to your site: my bust. This is a great review with my turning in my 2016X and purchased a 2020 X yesterday. Your words ring true to the 16. Still a great car but I want to be able to upgrade. I’m going to be a regular visitor; mine coming in end of December. My 16 was an August 16 version. Missed the new hardware by 1.5 months. 4 years of great driving and 52000 miles, I was ready to get a new one, same color Midnight Silver, same wheels. 20 inch. So, I appreciate your honest thoughts and observations. I don’t perceive ever leaving Tesla. My son is on his 2nd S and getting a cyber truck. I have a 2016 Z06/Z07 and it was either a new mid-engine Z06 or this new X. We went for the X. Z06 is still my 2nd car but staying with the 2016. Thanks again, Kenn
Thanks for the comment and congrats on the X. I think thats the way it should be electric car as the daily and weekend sports car.
Unfortunately, the big difference is in price not performances. I have a 2017 that is still a wonderful car by any means, but it worth half the price now. And it's not easy to sell.
Agreed that the price is a big factor and the fact that the newer cars are less expensive new than the older cars when new is hurtful especially when you get more performance and range.
I am planning to buy a used raven Model X(Post June 2019) , I have 2023 MY now but need a 7 seater. what do you think of it overall of your ownership ? does it have heated steering wheel ?
All X's have heated wheels and seats. The problem is going to be the UI/UX of the older X compared to the Y. If possible you're better off getting a newer 2024 X or the new Y coming in Q1 2025
Great review !! Thanks so much for your time !!!
Was watching another video, something you may have missed, the headrest has a feature on the side of the seat to RAISE THE HEADREST......you were dissappointed it didn't have it....
Yes 2020 the new seats do NOT have an adjustable headrest. In the older 2017-2019 seats it had this feature and the button on the side would be a dual function button controlled by the screen to adjust either the headrest or lumbar. 2020 only had lumbar.
I think at low speeds due to regulations their is a speaker to warn people. Try looking for a speaker
Good guess, but it's only audible inside the car and it's since been confirmed that it's the motor sound when hold mode is active. Interestingly the only Tesla's to make noise are the 3/Y in reverse.
Great review and great voice
Enjoyed your video and appreciated your advice! Thanks!
Hello BT do you still have your 2020 Tesla? I'm contemplating on purchasing a used 2020. Have you had any issues with the falcon doors?
Excellent real world video - hitting the highlights of every day driving and model year differences.
Thanks for watching!
Is 2019 identical to 2020? I’m having a hard time finding a source for components and such regarding hardware type MCU and motor type. I believe the 2020 got the designation of long range plus if I’m not mistaken due to the new motor design and battery chemistry.
I really appreciate you going through all these incredible details. Most review sites just skim over pretty important changes.
Thanks for watching. 2019 is slightly different than 2020 with as you said 2020 having a new designation and updated components in regards to suspension and damping as well as a few other small tweaks. If possible get a 2020 X, the later the better.
@@BlackTesla Thank you for the reply. After much back and forth and watching nearly all of your videos, I have decided to order a 2022/23 model X. I also have a model Y arriving next month which will serve as my “gateway drug” into tesla. It was hard to not order the Plaid version, however I simply am not into that kind of performance on a daily driver, and the standard model is more than enough for my needs with merging etc. The seating configuration is the MOST frustrating Decision, however the five seater which folds flat is perfect for my errands and camping needs.
Thanks again for producing these videos! I watch many other channels and you have a very articulate delivery that transcends most ramblings I see from other reviewers who seem to just go through the motions.
Great review!! Your review is funny, like a rap, not like other boring reviews.
I had the 2019 Model X Performance and my head rest could be adjust through the display so is that different for you long range?
Yes it looks like for 2020 they've gotten rid of those seats. Probably how they are able to bring rhe cost down. So no adjustable headrests on the 2020 models.
@@BlackTesla That's to bad, my X totaled three months after picked it up so we decided to wait to replace it. So I'm looking forward to what Elon announces on Tuesday, hoping to hear information on an updated 2021 Plaid Model X. By the way, great videos!
I have a June 2020 MXP and it does not have adjustable headrests. I didn't even know that was a thing. This is my first Tesla. I have to say, the driver's seat is the most comfortable chair I own.
The proximity function of the smart key is cool
great review! couple of quick questions when you have the time... 1- I want to get a 2021 Model X ... when typically can you order the next model year ? Do you have to wait until January? 2 - What tires were you using for the review ... I want to get the larger low profile tires, I think the X looks way better with those, but slightly afraid of bumps, slightly rough terrain. Thanks !
Thanks for watching! Tesla doesn't do traditional model years, instead, the year your car was built is the correlation to the traditional Model Year. The exception here is if there is any inventory left over at the end of the year that may spill over into the following year i.e. buying a car built in 2020 but sold in 2021. So if you want a 2021 Model X simply place a custom order January 2021 and you are likely to get one built in 2021. In this video we had the 20inch Goodyear tires. Sound like you want the 22inch wheels and tires....which look great but due to the weight of the X they wear quicker and become more prone to blowouts depending on where you live. Hope that was helpful.
Hi i bought the 2020 model too . had some issues with the falcon door and front windows but they have fixed it and I'm loving it. Real nice smooth drive with the air suspension. let me know if there are other issues that i should be aware of,
2020 is the best X ever...so far. Nothing notable to look out for except they still haven't fixed the half-shaft issue (shuddering under acceleration) and tire pressure monitors and cold tolerance is lower. So 30 degrees F means tire pressure warnings and less regen. Prior models had a higher tolerance for both.
Nice Channel. Will be watching your videos. Me an my wife just got a Model X an love it. I’m a NJ Clifton guy.

Great review. Very informative and concise! Looks like a great vehicle. Thanks
Thanks for watching
Great review- my first time on your channel and appreciate your approach to highlighting the vehicle. I've been shopping Tesla for a couple weeks now and I think the X is, by far and away, the best current offering.
Thanks for watching and commenting. Yes I can say the X is the most comfortable Tesla to drive. Depending on whats important to you will determine what the best offering is but for utility + comfort I have the X, for utility + performance I have the S. For handling + practicality its the 3, for value for the money its the Y.
I love your channel.. When my ice lease ends in March... buying either a Y or X. The only reason I hesitate on X... is this “front axel shudder” issue I’ve read about. Have you ever experienced this?
Yes we have and its very realy, there is something Tesla hasnt figured out in regards to making a vehicle of that size and weight have instant torque and acceleration without compromising the half-shafts. It's unfortunate that they haven't put more priority on solving this but it SEEMS like S/X has been deprioritized now that 3/Y are out.
That rear end needs replacing, god. It needs a new interior (basically 8 years old) with a HUD installed as an option at least. Needs dechroming and larger black or graphite wheels. Black interior. I'd love this vehicle but it needs a refresh. Seats need ventilation. Mood lighting (colour LED). The lighting is poor. I'm glad you mentioned it.
You in NJ! I saw highland pavilion. Eagle Rock lookout is my spot
I wish I could afford this... Great car, Great Company, #DreamCar
Do you think the increased rattles, body roll, and general driving feel is due to each vehicle's age and mileage? A 75k mile vehicle is going to feel different than one with significantly less mileage
Partially yes but the reason why they implemented the Raven Suspension was to make it better and it is significantly better I cannot emphasize it enough.
Also keep in mind we were the first owners of our 2017 so I am comparing to when that was new as well and its not in the same ballpark.
Ok, thanks for the clarification!!
Do you mind sharing what type of camera you are using? I was thinking in making a poker vlog, thank you in advance 👌🏼

No disrespect but that interior doesn't look like a $100k car interior, looks cheap compared to a 2021 Lincoln SUV. Why keep changing model years if the car itself hasn't had a drastic change?
Does 2020 version have a bigger battery, more powerful motors?
All opinions are welcome as long as they are respectful so thanks for the comment. Yes the new Lincoln SUV is impressive as is the new escalade. What you're paying for with that $100k is the tech (motors, battery, touchscreen, full self-driving). Once Tesla can get the cost of the technical down i suspect they can spend more creature comforts on the interior. The 2020/21 has longer range and more efficient motors so that it can go further and charge faster.

Thank you.. Enjoy your new Model X and be safe!
Just traded in my 2016 model for a 2021 model. Can’t figure out the wireless phone charging. Do you have a video on that? And if there is a setting to have the doors completely close for you as you walk away like the premium upgrade on the 2016 model.
Congrats! The wireless charging is straightforward, you just need to slide your phone in the holster and maybe remove the case if you have one so it fits. Once in the holster wireless charging should start assuming your phone has it enabled automatically. In terms of walk away doors that should be an option under "vehicle" in the menu.
I'm just waiting for a complete restyling (maybe 2021?) then i'm sold!
More like 2022 at this rate
In the future. No redesign 😁
Have they fixed the water problem with the falcon wing doors when you open them?
We've never experienced the issue so hard to tell. We will test next heavy rain we get.
Excellent review, sir. Very objective which is good. I follow the rule that you want to stay away from first production year vehicles which would be the 2016s for the X so your point makes sense. Also like the fact that you bought the 5 seat configuration which I don't see very often.
Thanks. 5 seat makes the most sense for us, max cargo space.
@@BlackTesla Agree.
What part of NJ are you in? I’m in south Jersey near Swedesboro. My 2021 Model X is coming in January 🎉🥳
Northern NJ
Congrats on the new X. Looks great. I'm surprised they didn't chrome delete the outside trim, like the 3 and Y. I see you still have a shiny fingerprint magnet console. They are the worse. I just saw an article where Tesla might be taking away the piano black console. Best thing they could do, IMO. First thing I did with my Y was to cover it. My Y doesn't have the pedestrian speaker, I believe some 3's do. I don't know why they stopped putting them in. I'm glad, keeps me from having to disconnect it. Great review, keep 'em coming.
Thanks, yes we like the look and will wrap it with a clear film that reduces the fingerprints but keeps the look.
This was an excellent review, thank you.
Thanks for watching
How do you hold yourself from sending that thing. I drove my families one the other day and I couldn’t help but speed
You get used to it, and tickets are no fun either 😉
just subscribed, thanks for the review
Thank you
Do you have that but in black? (points at a cybertruck)
Informative video, thanks. Have you had any significant problems with your 2017? Like the common “shudder” front suspension issue?
Yes we had a few issues including the shudder which require the half shafts to be replaced. Also our MCU1 died and needed to be replaced, that was the most significant as the car was unsafe to drive without any display information or HVAC.
Black Tesla: The half shaft issue makes me hesitant about getting a MX, the worrying part is that it seems like a design flaw Tesla doesn’t know how to fix. However, there are so many things I like about the car it feels like it might be worth dealing with some aggravation. Obviously you felt it was worth getting another MX, despite some issues, as do many other MX owners. Thanks for the feedback.
Valid concerns. Some things to consider: half-shaft issue is a flaw so its fully covered under warranty. Based on the new suspension setup they MAY have fixed this with the latest builds. Lastly, they've put some software mitigation in here that automatically lowers the suspension when on high or very high beyond a certain speed. This is for all MX models and is the crux of the half-shaft strain (riding on high+ at high speeds and accelerating hard). I usually just ride low all the time and it's never been an issue since getting it replaced.
Black Tesla Thanks for the insight. Regarding ride height, I’ve read that riding low does mitigate the shudder problem, possibly preventing it entirely, but can lead to premature tire wear unless the car is aligned for the low ride. Have you noticed abnormal tire wear riding low?
Yes this is true, tire wear was accelerated and the wear was uneven. But we decided to accept that over the risk of another half-shaft.
Thinking about getting one of these
Do it you won't regret it
how many miles to a full charge?
Is April 2019 the earliest Raven Model X version...?
I believe so, but if not April is a safe bet if you're looking in the used market.
Can’t afford but fuckin love this car. The only minivan crossover I would love to have and drive it❣️
Thanks for this and other videos you've done. My Queen is a back seat passenger side Queen. We both wish Model X had rear seat control heating and cooling, but I suspect that is unlikely even in the refresh which is likely coming up. So my question is: Which HVAC zone (front driver or front passenger) do the rear seats get? Do both get the driver temp, the front passenger temp, or does the rear seat passenger get whatever the temp is for the same side front seat? Our strong preference would be her controlling her own temp/fan speed because at this point in her life she wants high heat and minutes later cold and minutes later hot, etc.
Thanks for the information, stay healthy and Happy Holidays to you and your Queen.
Thanks for the comment. It depends on the configuration. If you get 5 seat config it's the standard split down the middle left side front and back and right side front and back for climate. If you get 6 or 7 seat there is an additional zone for the rear seats.
is there a battery difference?
One of these days, I will get this car. Great review, thank you!
I hope it will br refreshed totally by then.
Does the X have an integrated pedestrian speaker? Maybe that's the noise you are hearing.
AFAIK it doesn't only the 3 and Y have that. I've since confirmed it was the hold mode that causes that noise.
@@BlackTesla ok ty, good information
Hmmm...i’m still not sure if I should buy the model Y or the model X
If you have kids get the X. If you don't have kids drive both and decide.
Excellent video, thanks!!
I am saving up to buy one....
is this the performance or long range?
Long range
Good review. Nice looking vehicle

Good shit as always
Beautiful car.
Now this look awesome 2:23
Still love my 2017 MX!
It is a great car...until you drive the 2020 😎
No one really uses the headrest lol. I can't recall, or if every vehicle I've ever owned( over 50 personal) did I use it think about the headrest.
Fair point for your use case, but it's hard for any one person to speak for everyone. At the end of the day as an adult, you're the same height you will ever be, and if most cars' headrest height is fit for you, great. But there are many tall people or people with long necks or different shaped heads that need that adjustment.
great video!
This was an excellent informative review, thank you.
Great detailed video...thank you.
I like the video!
Model x looks insane
It looks mundane from the rear.
@@JohnnyZenith They need to do a complete refresh. Tesla runs the same designs for like a decade ..lol
I wish the X had a bigger screen like the other models
Not sure i follow, the X and S both have 17inch touchscreens. While the 3 and Y have 15inch touchscreens.
@@BlackTesla They should totally redo the exterior styling (rear mostly) and interior. Many are wanting a large 17 inch horizontal screen. I think I agree.
im buying this
There’s absolutely no dark “carbon” in this vehicle. It has dark chrome and dark ashwood trim. The carbon trim is reserved for the performance model.
Easy Yeezy, it was a flub I meant to say dark graphite instead of dark carbon. I have the carbon fiber trim in my P100D so very aware of that.
Black Tesla LOL “easy Yeezy”😂 Sheesh P100D? Okay then😳🔥
Defo want this car
I think the 2020 needs adjustable headrests, ventilated seats, seat back pockets, and a fold down armrest in the second row.
So much this ^
Yes! I spend 90% of the time in the back seat being driven to and from work, and still miss my old Prius’s armrest, seatback pockets, and handles over the doors. Of course, on weekends when I drive, I love my Tesla!
Seat back pockets will be nice. Not sure what material they will use for that.
Fold down armrest don’t always make for a very enjoyable middle seat.
I think the six seat configuration has some nice armrests for the second row seats.
joscaca there are good armrests for the outer arms of the left and right passengers in the second row, but none for their inward-facing arms. They could probably use the fake leather they use now to make seat back pockets. The second row also needs A/C and heated seat controls, it’s really annoying for both the driver and the passengers to have to ask someone else to adjust these settings.
@@joscaca I just watched a video with a 6 seat config. Sadly there is no arm rest there either. It may be model specific, but the owner complained of that too
Thank You

@blacktesla I had no idea the difference was this stark. I love how my Raven handles. I've ruined my wife on this car. She hates driving our Audi A4 now.
"Tesla ruins other cars! It feels like this car is going to fall apart around me. All jittery and shaky. Stupid awesome electric fancy car."
I was thinking maybe a used one for her in the future, but it may have to be post Raven now... hmm...
So true... I've driven 2018 and 2020 MX...keep putting off the purchase but the 2020 test drive almost did me in!
I'm trading my dec 2016 for a Y, I like it but just feels to heavy, plus the screen is getting slow.
Which do you prefer to driving being a taller guy? The S or X?
for tall people X all day, and after driving it for a month the 2020/21 X is actually the most comfortable Tesla ever. That said i prefer driving the S because its low and fast but have a much easier time getting in and out of the X.
@@BlackTesla Thanks. Great job on your vids.

What? You are buying a new Model X every year?
What for?
Huh?
Cos he likes them and can afford it!
I wanna see the man behind the camera.....😏😏
🥸
Dude what does my career have to be to afford one of these. All I want is a freaking model s P100d.
Tesla's are going down in price by design as they bring production costs in house so as you earn more money they are becoming less expensive so you are bound to meet in the middle at some point. That said, there are lots of careers that can afford you a Performance Model S, I think the question you can ask yourself is what do you need to do in order to afford one. Invest, Save, change of lifestyle, etc. Its definitely doable and I see lots of new Tesla owners reaping the benefits of foresight having invested early in Tesla the company and cashing out in the recent highs. Hope that was helpful.
@sbmphr you can work as a policy analyst as well! Not just doctors or pilots, :)
@@BlackTesla Great point!
Owing a Tesla is not as expensive as you think. An $80k Tesla is equivalent to a $50k gas car over 10-15 years owing the vehicle. You basically pay the cost upfront for the Tesla.
No longer the latest and greatest Model X :D
It still is, as of this comment the new refresh hasn't been delivered to customers and is slated for end of April/June. So until then...this is still the latest you can buy and take delivery now 😉
Tesla seriously need to put some sleeky designs into their body shape, they are dreadful looking
They have some great designs, I think the front of the X looks great but the side and back could use more aggression.
