The contracts are bound the their souls so from my understanding Val could essentially erase him from existence or take full control of him (in the studio per their contract) so he doesn’t have a “choice”
Nothing to say he can erase or kill him, just basically control him within the bonds of the contract.
I don't think they can erase without something special, but tearing apart their soul eternally so they can never fully heal.... Ya, that's doable.
@@vinnie666 I mean that's certainly feasible because they will just regen or respawn from what I know and it's not physical damage that's the issues for eternity it's gonna be more the emotional damage over time chipping away their sanity.

@@alejandradasilva1999 I think it's more an empty threat, I think it's more likely he has other overlords trapped somewhere, I'm pretty sure he can tear poor Husker to shreds over and over again though, I guess that would be mentally soul destroying.

Amazon are not the ones responsible for the 8th episode for Season 1. That falls into A24 and EVEN then, the fact that we got Hazbin Hotel at all, especially without any meddling from A24 and them just letting Viv have free rein in her show, should still be appreciated.
Really that was on A24? Odd. But yeah didn't Viv say her original plan was for 20 or 22 episodes? Its frankly a miracle that she and her crew managed to squish it down to 8 and still made it work this well. But I guess compromises have to be made in an industry like Hollywood.
@@drdewott9154 it could’ve either been A24 just wanting to see how well Hazbin does so they only gave her a few episodes OR it was both Viv’s decision and A24. The only reason I said it doesn’t fall on Amazon is because they are only distributing Hazbin, save for some merch and advertising obv but yeah no, they weren’t the ones who helped fund Hazbin.
@@drdewott9154 I can’t really blame A24 for giving Viv 8 episodes, for something as ambitious as Hazbin, it’s pretty reasonable (at least that’s how I see it since I’m sure they wouldn’t have done it deliberately/maliciously)
I mean, she can still get 22 episodes-- it’ll just depend on how well Hazbin keeps doing or until Cherlie’s story is complete

I know that Viv's talked about how Valentino is based in part on her own experiences with a toxic partner, but I can't help but feel like Angel's self-destructive coping cycle and his dynamic with Husk are drawn from the lived experiences of someone on the team.
This episode is both _really_ uplifting and _really_ damn hard to watch, for _me_ at least, because of how _real_ Angel's downward spiral and breakdown feel -- even if the details are different, the feelings of hopelessness and helplessness are so painfully familiar to me that I can't help but resonate with what he's going through. In a way, I guess I'm trying to find my own strength by watching Anthony find _his._
You're not along, many of us feel the same. Angel represents that things can change, you can change, and it can get better.
Val is partially based on a bad ex, but his main character is based on real life pimps
A note: I think Val is represented as a carpet moth, and when Angel is dancing? There's a few times where his spider form becomes more prominent. It looks so much like just another costume that no one would think twice... of course that's just an opinion.
Val is a moth. The licking her was not just trying to use his pharmones on her but moths and butterflies also lick things to identify. Shitty eyes.
Also that is the problem... if Charlie HAD stepped in he would have threatened angel to make her stop (and she would) and then when she was gone probably made things a billion times worse for angel even more than he already planned by disobeying. If he tares his soul up that's it, no more angel. No reforming, insta-unaliving permanently.
Probably my favorite episode. Great character development and two powerful songs.
The thing with Angel not wanting Charlie to confront Valentino is that he was probably scared she was going to get hurt (he begged Val before not to hurt her). Now, we don't know how strong Val is. We've never seen him fight. Charlie isn't much of a fighter, but she's genetically a powerhouse and most likely sinners can't kill her so she would have probably been fine. In fact, if angry enough I could even see her beating Val's ass. However, what I can't see is her killing him even if she had a weapon capable of doing the job. And as long as she doesn't kill him, the contract with Angel will still be in effect. Therefore whatever she does to Val he will later give back to Angel with interest. So even though Angel probably just wanted to (unnecessarily) protect Charlie by sending her away, it was still the right choice.
And, yeah, like other comments already said, this is a soul contract. Dead people are souls, so you've basically sold your entire being to another. It's magically binding to, I assume, whatever the conditions of the deal are. Angel's, at the very least, are to let Val do whatever he wants to him in the studio. In the pilot, we saw Husk (and Nifty) getting summoned by Alastor into the hotel without any choice in the matter. Their contract isn't bound to a specific place and probably includes following orders as well. In general, it seems Alastor's deals are a lot more restrictive. In episode 2 Vox asked Val if Angel quit so I assume Angel doesn't *technically* have to go to work (meaning no magic will pupeteer him to go there), but, if he doesn't, Val will just track him down, drag him there by force and then hurt him so bad he won't even think about trying again.
So Angel stopped Charlie not because of what dickatino would do to her but what she might do to dickatino and how it would affect her after she calmed down as she’s one of the good things/people he has left
Like to add that even if Charlie could kill Valentino, Angel needs to fear retribution from Vox and Velvette because they sure won't be happy when 1/3 of their brand gets killed
Edit: someone pointed out that Husk bindings in Loser baby are more restrictive than Angels loose ones (so yeah, Alastors soul deals are air tight)
@@nekokaitou4027 Very good point. Say what you want about the Vees being arrogant upstarts compared to other overlords, but their alliance is a really smart move. Pick a fight with one and you instantly have the other two on your case (I do wonder if that's what let Vox win his last fight with Alastor. It would make a lot of sense and there are hints in ep2 to support it).
@@nekokaitou4027 Also Charlie couldnt really kill Val because Sinners can only be killed perminantly by Angelic weapons, even if Charlie could destroy Val,and I suspect she is stronger than him, he would eventually regenerate and get revenge on Angel

I love the relantionship between Angel and Husk. The latter was the only one to see Angel for what he really was and tell him what he needed to hear, because it was that what forced Angel to drop the façade. And you know what? The creator has told that their relationship will be developed even more in the future... if it's going to become romantic or stay platonic, it's still unknown. I guess that's all Angel ever needed: a meaningful relationship. Most of Angel's relationships were built over this fake persona he puts on to protect himself, so he really treasures the ones he consider to be his real friends. Charlie was the first person to ever believe he could become better, being why he was so protective of her (even if she actually didn't need his protection) when it came to Valentino. Besides Charlie and Husk (and anyone in the hotel)... I guess there is only one more person in all of Hell he considers his real friend...
It really goes to show, actually believing in someone, showing support, care, and a willingness to accept their ugly side, can be a world of difference to people.
A few things
1. The contracts between overlords and sinners gives the overlords control of their souls
And thst gives the overlords power. Neither charlie nor Lucifer can do anything about the contracts
because a sinner has to sign the contract with an overlord of their own free will
And no one not even lucifer can interfere with free will.
2. Angel stopped charkienfrom attacking Vlad because he was worried about charlie,
Because he knows what Val is like and even if Val can't stand up to Charlie directly
There are many ways he can hurt charlie, either by attacking her cause, or the people she cares about
i wanna say that we don’t know much about how alastor treats husk. you say you have the next episode already up in patreon but slight spoilers for episode 5:
we see al showcasing the power he has over husk in that episode. and that might just be scratching the surface
i saw someone else say that: with valentino, you at least know what you might be getting into. alastor? he’s an enigma, a mystery, and he does what he finds entertaining or fun for him and him alone. you don’t know when he’d next mess you up (and we also see more of how far he’d go to be evil in the next episode too)
i’m not saying val is any less bad or vile for what he does. i’m just saying that al, as charming as he is, is not as innocent or forgiving either
Al definitely represents how dangerous charm and charisma can be. But also that people aren't one dimensional, everyone has depth. He's a fascinating character. Valentino we really only see one side, the abuser. But that may only be just for now, next season we may see more.
Many believe the same in that those with a gold tooth are owned by Valentino, its his enslavement signature. Angel is extremely protective of those he csres about, he has always protected people, even from the pilot. So the first thing he requested was for Valentino not to hurt Charlie. He didn't take into account how powerful she is, he only saw her as someone he cares for and wants to protect. And like others said, a contract means he sold his soul, a magically binding contract, you cant physically break it or just not follow it. This show is definitely into fleshing out all characters. Even ones we haven't gotten fleshed out is supposedly going to be fleshed out in a future season. Next episode is one of my faves with my favorite song ever. Can't wait!
In Helluva Boss, Striker and Crimson both have a golden tooth. I wonder if it means they both worked for Valentino at some point.
The most accepted theories for what happens when you try to go directly against a contract, not through a loophole, are: 1- You simply can't because contracts restrict Free Will. 2- The soul is consumed/broken by the contract, instantaneous death. There is also a version of the second theory involving Roo, but she is a character that has not yet been explored in the series and I don't want to be accused of being a spoiler.

I think in this show, the gold teeth signify mobster activity or gangster lifestyle. husk has one, from back when he was an overlord and gambler.
Sure the contract may not help Angel to get out of this situation, but from what I hear there is a lot of psychology going on behind the action of people suffering of sexual abuse and any other kind of toxic relationship like that.
From many of us, outsider of this situation, it may look simple to resolve (like ''just speak'' or ''just get out of there'' as simplistic example), but from the inside situation, in Angel's head, the amount of emotions, inner thoughts, and inner fighting must be horrible to go through. Just imagining the amount of fear/terror Angel looks like to feel in the Valentino's scene with him gives me goosebumps.*..
My excuses for this sad comment, but I felt like pointing that out since there is not enough representation about those kind of thing for people to know it exist, how bad it can get or that is is not a normal situation for anyone who's trapped in an environment like this. This show have one of the most deep cast of characters writing I've ever seen, and this is what I believe made it so much good, relatable, and addicted to it no pun intended. Helluva boss included.

I think it was canon that the ones who sold their soul, get some features from the one who owns them, colors, details etc. The golden tooth is propably from Val to those he owns.

This is one of the best episodes but also the hardest to watch. Angel is my favorite character. Poison is uncomfortable but that is exactly the point. Its one of my favorites. My only issue, and I know I'm in the minority, is that I couldn't get into Loser Baby. Its not my taste in music and I found it overrated. btw most underrated song imo is Happy Day in Hell.

Funny enough, the cast has joked about 5 and even 8 seasons. So its not like it hasn't crossed their minds, and with no flinching who knows.
Just throwing this out, about the gold tooth. Traffickers will mark their, "property", and that's what I took from all the gold teeth that Valentino's people have

Also remember gold teeth are usually used to replace lost ones. Chances are Angel lost one to abuse, and had to make sure he still looks great while Luna probably lost hers in battle. Of course, being Hell, it could be a literal fashion statement, yet also carry symbolism or be ownership-related-marking even the same. Blitz and Fizz have head tattoos that might be a mark of ownership for the circus they grew up in. Everything is about deals and ownership in Hell, even if it's not constantly on screen. Being a cartoon, and an allegory, two things can be true at the same time. I imagine when Angel started to work with Val, likely Val had to establish his control and broke it for Angel. Maybe he breaks a tooth of all his "clients". Since this is a symbolic cartoon and a dream-like hell let's also remember your teeth represent your words in dreams. Having the gold tooth may be a sign that even the things that character SAYS are on a leash. In the end things like tattoos and teeth end up becoming part of the cultural backdrop of Hell and it shows how much the little details remind us it's a bad place without having it in our faces all the time.

It's sad these new generations require trigger warnings on everything, just goes to show how weak and obedient to tyranny they are.
Apparently some yahoos online harassed Val's voice actor because they hated the character so much. Which is really weird to me, because if anything, the fact that Val is so detestable is a testament to how damn good of a performance his VA gave. Props to him.

In their defense
This is their first watch through, and the music video moves FAST, it's hard to tell exactly what's happening and flickering between Angels hallucination / reality.
They don't have the luxury of watching every scene 5+ times to get all the context, it just appears as a weird face for the vocals
@@Toches Against their defence, One of them literally HAS watched all the episodes before. On top of which, if you need to watch that scene 5+ times to get the context of a guy being raped, there is no hope for you.
They were literally smiling and casually talking while watching Angel self destruct, take drugs, be raped (in multiple ways) and try to "look" positive about it 90% of the time. And this is not even a minute after watching Angel be physically abused by Val.
Even at the start of the episode, they mention about the warning of sexual assault, but it's clearly not taken as seriously as it should have been. Most other channels I watch straight up have a content warning sign / part at the start of the video, and fully mean what they say
@@thomashorne7512 I'm guessing you have a sensitivity to Angel's plight and are more aware of the subtleties surrounding it, trust me, my brother JUST watched it and didn't catch any of the little side things and wasn't really all that aware of his drug-induced hallucination / coping mechanism vs reality.
In the channel's original reaction he was only commenting on the song, nothing about the content being animated.
It's also a difficult subject for someone to have anything meaningful to say about it, other than it sucks.

I have no clue how old you or your brother are, but I don't think that it's too hard to spot SA, especially when it was as blatant as this (plus there was literally a content warning at the start). I'm not bothered that they don't catch subtle gestures like the hallucinations or his coping methods, its more so that they laughed during a scene which most cried or held their breath.
It's just really inappropriate, especially because if we made angel a female character, I can almost guarantee a different type of reaction (such as disgust, shock, anger, sadness etc). Not saying they don't sympathise with Angel or his struggles, just merely that they either weren't paying any attention to the scene because of the song, or that they had blatant disregard towards male rape
@@Toches As an example, look up Morgan Terry or NotSoAverageFangirl and see both of their reactions. Even though they are more deeply invested in the lore and characters than these guys are, the way they handle the scene is what's important
