Absolutely right. Id just started re-listening and thinking ive got to see this band again, then sadly he passed. I couldn't believe it. Id been appreciating just how good he was. In fact, all of them. The press always wrote about drugs and chaos which distracted from the fact they had put the work in and were a great bunch of musicians.
It's a good album but seems amateurish compared to Bummed & Pills "N" Thrills & Bellyaches. Yes Please is a good album also but would've been better if Paul Oakenfeld had been involved.
@@brianinglis3805 'Better' is subjective to the listener. Pills Thrills was the album which got me into the band, as previously I had been into dance music (the acid house scene, and early rave era), and it was Paul Oakenfold's dance beats coupled with the jangly guitar which made me want to listen to the Mondays. I liked other similar bands too, during 1989/1990 but it wasn't until that album, that I really fell in love with the madchester vibe.
It is great for telling stories about Manchester, Salford etc. Like Suggs does about N London. Lots of tales to tell. Have you heard Shaun's story about the Indians camping over winter on River Erwell for example?
It's not just the music...it's something in the air of certain times that mixes with the music . This mix then permeates into the people who release it into the air and then the music picks it up again and repeat. Something deffo has gone wrong , we have ventured into a void with technology and social media. People think we're connected but we're not . We're more thirsty than ever before and crave genuine release that has occurred throughout centuries but for some reason it ain't happening . The last great social and culturally inclusive era was the 90s . Then it all died . Time for a resurrection. Peace out .
I was into The Mondays back in the day because they were cool and did the same shit I did, but now listening again they have a unique funky trippy sound. Loads of little textures and melodies going on. In short, they are much better than I realized.
every great band needs that certain ingredient that stands them apart from everyone else, for the mondays. it was bez. he just brings the vibes and gets the people moving with him.
this was always my favourite mondays track especially the "one louder" live version where Paul ryder does this amazing northern soul bassline....great times......
Without the band each individual was destined to become a complete bum. But Happy Mondays raised each individual's level with a 1000 percent! Great tune!
I stop one foot from tapping and the other one starts up tapping - the ultimate psychidelic dance band - like the 60s never stopped - have a good time all the time a double double good time
holy wow bud... how have I not known this band. This is right up my alley. I was just curious who the guy was in the Gorillaz music video for "Dare"... which I have been wondering about for almost 20 years and finally looked it up and found this. wow.
Class tune from a class album.....first heard this @ Factory in the park at Finsbury supporting New Order back in the good old days....R.I.P Paul Ryder......gutted you had that jab brother.....say no to medical tyranny.
When he came out to the lock-up He said I'm looking for something better He made his shock announcement And backed off, backed down, backed off And then he got up off the floor He said I'm wealthy enough, not to do this no more And he made it all known with his hands held up, palm out And she said don't know if i should 'Cause i worry too much about the tests on the blood And at first it was a 'yes', and then a 'no', then a 'yes'. A maggot sleeps on her desk H wears a sleeping bag as his vest And he's getting too too bothered About the spots on his chest, chest, chest Now she's (BLANK)...She laid it on And a few days later she's gone So its back to the womb To get drowned, drowned, drowned, drowned warm (???)

First 2 Mondays album's and early ep's (freaky dancing, 45, hallelujah) were the best. Live at leeds album is good as well. Saw them Glastonbury 99 headlining on the Friday. Might have been 98 tho.....lol. too many things that start with e
this song is brilliant. it comes in three stanza`s , the majority of it is about Martin hannett`s leaving factory records , his reason`s for doing so and his legal wrangles that came with it as he took factory to court in 1983..Shaun had heard bernard from new order discussing it in dry bar..and turned it into this song..

The Mondays first album is an underrated classic.
First album is monster legend total underrated whys that album so not in any topics I agree so underatted

Voice of an angel
The angel of death maybe. . .
Amazing vocalist, no other vocal style wouldve worked.
Yeah right, angel od Acid, Mary J and buzzz... 😁
@@DevonMike73 I agree. Shaun’s voice was perfect for this type of music.

The best Mondays tune hands down. Never ages.
Completeley agree my friend, one of the best pieces of music ever recorded.P.D.W.
They were and now the Biss man
Why can't people make music like this anymore? I love the Mondays
Thats the big question - WHY cant we? what has gone wrong? Because something has definitely gone wrong...there are various theories.

If a modern band made music exactly like this, you'd still complain about it.
they one off originals
Cause factory records is dead...
RIP John Peel, Tony Wilson and Paul Ryder
Probably the most criminally underrated Happy Monday's track
The Mondays were and still are the band that changed the way I walked talked and danced. All the E helped alot though.
Best band to have ever come out of Manchester by a country mile I reacon.
reckon

So many great Manchester bands but this one for me is the greatest.
Glad to hear.
Any music that almost falls apart but just stays on the magic .. these top it for me
One of the best intros for song In my biased opinion
I was into The Mondays back in the day because they were cool and did the same shit I did, but now listening again they have a unique funky trippy sound. Loads of little textures and melodies going on. In short, they are much better than I realized.
Pissed mesel laughing reading Excess All Area's, when John Cale said that "Bez playing a tambourine, sounded like a building collapsing."
That fine line between being a musical icon or ending up selling The Big Issue.
Very funny that
the Bass line that keeps on giving...
Saw them yesterday. Great performance. Definitely still got it.
paul ryder bass r.i.p mondays tunes never gets old
The stories are great, but the music greater. Gaz is such a great drummer. ❤

And the ecstasy. By bummed, it was all soaked in the first wave of the UK ecstasy boom
I'm always amazed how Shaun kept his head focused on success...Bez' down to earth mentality must have helped.
What a lyricist Shaun Ryder is. Massively underrated.
Same applies to the bassist, Paul pumps this track
@@CORRDiesel Now on his way under ground. He did a lot for their sound, the psykadelic that Bez never minded.
"2 snatch lickers both with big arms grew hamaphrodites on a pig farm"
Smacked outta his mind..them were the days.
Great lyrics , baseline, and with a hook to draw you in
Great bass!
Sensational bass

Goodbye Paul...such great bass lines.
No wonder Bez was dancing with love and the magic on the 🎸
