I have extra money. It's in a high yield money market working for me. It's there when I need it and I don't discuss my money/ finances with any family or friends.
Extra money was a problem for my mom. She was in senior subsidized housing that charged 30% of her net income after deducting medical expenses, for her rent each year. One year, her net income was going to exceed the limit by $9, making her ineligible for her rental rate. So I had her purchase a dental insurance plan, which she needed anyway, and that was deducted from her income so she stayed under the net income limit and kept her rental rate. You must track deductible expenses closely, including transportation to and from medical appts, md copays, rx's, durable medical equipemt, etc., and save all receipts, to make sure your net countable income stays under the limit required to keep your housing and other benefits. It take a lot of planning.
Thanks for sharing this krisb! Glad you were able to do that for your mom. Unfortunately, the medical expenses doesn't help in my situation, so I still have to pay about 2.5 times my rent going forward. Yikes! Appreciate you watching!
There are only 4 things you can do with money: save it, invest it, spend it, and give it away. We need to be aware how the psychology of money works for us, either a scarcity mindset or abundance. Extra $$ is great to me while retired.
You can't do any of those 4 things with money until you receive it from various sources -- earned, inheritance, benefit such as social security, gifts, theft (not advocating stealing, it's just a reality that some choose to obtain money by this method). I am deliberately not including investment income because until you receive some other source of income, you can't make it work for you in the form of investment income.
A little drifty to me. I received my first paycheck in 1966 in HS. I chose to spend it on kid stuff and gas in my Mustang, gas was about 29cents a gallon then. When I went into the Army, I saved over half of my pay in a savings account that Uncle Sam rewarded me by 10% interest. I used that for college in Colorado and buying a new car, a classic I still have. Investment income to me has nothing to do with other sources of money such a pensions, or collecting rent. Buffet said you need multiple sources of income , we now have 7 sources.

So happy for you that the CC debt is getting paid off! Feels like freedom! Money is definitely a tool. One only needs to learn to use the tool in your hand, like tools used to build and repair and maintain a home.

One caution about UA-cam income. As far as the IRS is concerned you are a small business (a sole proprietor). Consequently, unless you are bringing in more than the standard deduction from UA-cam while you won't owe any income tax you will owe Social Security and Medicare tax (FICA) on your UA-cam income. That tax rate is about 15%. So if you earn $10,000 from UA-cam you will owe about $1,500 in FICA tax. Do set aside some of your UA-cam income for that. Also, if your UA-cam income plus half of your social security is over $25,000, some of your social will become taxable. That doesn't mean it will be taxed, but it does raise the possibility if your UA-cam income plus the taxable part of your social security is more than the standard deduction ($16,550 for a single person 65 or older). Do think about that and put money aside accordingly.
Thanks, Todd! Yes I know all this. I had my own business back in the 90s doing transcription, so I am very familiar with FICA. The good news is that as I contribute more each year, I should see some increase in my Social Security at some point.
@@eldergal You will only see an increase in your SS if your UA-cam earnings are in your top 35 years of earnings since SS only uses your top 35 years to compute your benefit.
@@Patricia-413 We are discussing the FICA tax you have to pay on sole proprietor earnings. There is no social security penalty from 67 on, but you still have to pay FICA taxes on earnings from employment.

So many points I can relate to! So many different ways we see and relate to money in our lives, depending upon our life experiences and societal cultural norms. Love that idea of seeing it as a “friend”. Not obsessing over it or valuing it more than people. As the Bible states “LOVE of money is the root of all evil”, not money itself. Getting a large sum of money in the past led me to make some poor impulsive decisions, but I’ve learned the hard way and now I feel if I am lucky enough to come into money again I would do things a lot differently, and as a result have more peace of mind.
Love you and your videos. Thanks for sharing your story. So spot on. lol, I was just thinking of just a few extra hundred dollars in my account and worrying why I have it, is fate telling me something bad is going to happen that I might need it for. Hi Allison. There is much to consider in this video. I am glad you are breaking the chains money problems create. Security in this life is fragile in so many ways. Money is just one of many different human conditions that can change at any moment. Finding a reason to be grateful and content for the important things in life is always a good idea like some of your previous videos have suggested. There are definitely some things that money just can't buy. It is also true that creditors and bill collectors will not accept a sincere thank you for their services in place of a payment. It seems like there are always challenges of some kind in this life to overcome. You have done well for yourself, Allison. Take care always.
Thanks John for your kind comment! I am just happy to have made money more of a friend than an enemy now - it was a long time coming! Appreciate you watching and your support!
Extra money can be a problem for some people. On any gov't assistance people have to report extra money and then those services could disappear. Then you may not have enough to pay for medical care or housing or whatever gov't assistance people get.
@@eldergal It feels like a trap to get stuck in poverty. :-( It would be better if the gov't allowed people in poverty to save enough money to possibly get out of poverty.
Money does equal freedom. I always struggled to have enough and when I had more through my mother leaving me some and a better paying job , I let a man that I married use it all and I had a nervous breakdown and lost the better paying job . So .... That's my history with money . Now Iam old and poor and still in a horrible marriage.
I'm so sorry. Can you leave the horrible marriage? I know not everyone can but have you envisioned that?. I never felt so alone as when I was stuck in a bad marriage. I'm happy (and free) now after divorcing

elder gal, please do a video on your past experience. I would love to know how you worked through that. I don’t have a gambling addiction, I do know someone with a scratch off addiction. Thanks
Imo extra money should be ignored, and just saved. Or spent on an inevitable that youll have to buy eventually, like a car repair, or shampoo, but even that just returns to saving, its just saving later down the line when that purchase wouldve normally come. You save later instead. I think having a specific amount of guilt free money set each month is important, (atleast for those who're not retired,) since then you essentially turn your non fixed cost, into a fixed cost
I don’t worry about having a million dollars, that I can handle if that $$$ suddenly showed up my way!!!👏God knows I needed money to retired to a better life experience! I have been poor and I have been not so poor. I prefer not being poor or worrying about bills and shelter any day! I am now 76 and struggling with finance with much worries of the future! 😢 Not a good way to live!
The reason I am not 100% in agreement with it, is because I've seen too many people buy into it and reap no rewards even though they follow the principles. There is more to attracting money/abundance in particular than just the precepts in the Law of Attraction. In general, though, I believe that what we focus on tends to be in our lives more. So someone who is very negative will tend to attract more negativity. Hope this explains my view more. Thanks for watching!
11/2/4/24....I started saving my 2024 COLA "raise" from my Jan Soc Sec....And I put it in a separate crefit union account.... WHEN Soc Sec 2025 COLA "raise" comes in Jan, I will add that + save both 2024 + 2025 COLA $$ EACH MONTH.... IT DOESN'T TAKE LONG TO GET A "LITTLE NEST EGG 🥚" SAVED...
This is an interesting perspective from a former gambler, which makes me wonder if money was ever really the point. Was it just the price of admission to the game, or was there something deeper at play? After all, isn’t gambling closely tied to addiction?
I agree that mostly gambling is an addiction. But I had problems with money long before the gambling. I just didn't value money, so it was easy to throw it away in one sense. But also, I needed LOTS of money and so gambling was the only way I thought I could get that. Hope this explains it more. Thanks for watching cinnamon-girl!
I view money as a tool too. As I grow older (70 next week), I realize I need to use that tool for the benefit of others too. People are more important than money. I honestly wish our country could view money as a tool to help people. My wish is to see everyone live life to the fullest. It takes an investment in people to accomplish that, nurturing brilliance everywhere. We all will benefit as a society when more people shine. We are challenged with ever increasing population growth worldwide but I believe the only answer is to invest in people.

Thanks for sharing this, Jules! Glad you've learned, even if it was the hard way. Appreciate you watching!
I will take it if you are worried about having it
LOL
I never worried about having money. I love money, but money doesn’t love me.😢
You are amazing for sharing how UA-cam pays out and your advice!!!!
Appreciate that, Bea - thanks for watching!
Love you and your videos. Thanks for sharing your story. So spot on. lol, I was just thinking of just a few extra hundred dollars in my account and worrying why I have it, is fate telling me something bad is going to happen that I might need it for. I should just stick it in my savings and use it for that rainy day. I wish I had some smarts for investing and making it work for me.
Yes, save the extra money! It's never too late to learn smart money habits. Thanks for watching Nicole!
Having a lot of money can draw a lot of the wrong attention to you.
@@monicaperez2843
You have to have a lot of money quietly……….
that is why is important to pretend to be poor and not to tell others you have money
Well, sure! Extra money can buy you many things. But, there's one little thing money can't buy...
I'll buy you a diamond ring, my friend
🎶 If it makes you feel alright
🎼 I'll get you anything, my friend
🎹 If it makes you feel alright
🎶 'Cause I don't care too much for money
🎵 Money can't buy me love

Yes, I find Miss Allison genuine.Phonies are a dime a dozen. There are probably people out there that frown upon her for her van life.Shes educated and independent.
Thanks for your kind support, Rhonda! Appreciate it so much!
Thank you for your thoughts...being comfortable financially is definitely important..more important than living in "luxury"....well said :)
Thanks Michele!
Extra money is not equal to being wealthy.
I got a bunch of cash saved, it helps to not worry about it
You may be so right Daneil! Thanks!
@@eldergal I put alot of it in a cd and I collect rent every month from the interest so I cannot touch the money
You are welcome, Allison. My pleasure always. Take care and stay safe.
I’d rather worry about having money than being poor 😀

Thanks so much Rhonda!

Thanks much Lisa!
Hi EG hope you are well!❤
You too Marie! Thanks!
Extra money can be a problem for some people. On any gov't assistance people have to report extra money and then those services could disappear. Then you may not have enough to pay for medical care or housing or whatever gov't assistance people get.
Yeas, very well said! Government aid is here to keep the poor stay poor! 😢
So true Kris! It is a trade-off. Thanks for your comment!
@@eldergal It feels like a trap to get stuck in poverty. :-( It would be better if the gov't allowed people in poverty to save enough money to possibly get out of poverty.
Great video, as always.
Thanks PT!
Yes thank you, law of attraction. Thank you!
@@Frances-Joy I have no way of making money anymore. I'm retiring , turning 62 in January and It's not going to be a whole lot. I'm kind of stuck for good.
So sorry to read this, Carol, but thanks for sharing it. Take care!
@@carolscarantino2422 You are only 62 and still have a second chance to live another 20 years more!!! Better get the hell out of a terrible marriage now instead of wasting the rest of your life in it! You’ll regret it on your dying bed one day that you didn’t give yourself that last chance to start a new life ( maybe even a new good partner ) !!?! Thanks so much for watching, Kelly!
One would think that after I tell myself no ten thousand times, that it would be easy? Not the
case. It has got better. 😊
I'll watch this when it looks like having extra money is a possibility for me. 😊👍 At this point in my life (I'm 60), I've literally never experienced that.
Hopefully things will improve, Rose! Appreciate you watching!
@eldergal I did end up watching. 🙂 I couldn't resist. Love your no-nonsense videos.

Hi what video talks about your past gambling addiction? I am curious how it started thanks.
@@mariebarnes5947 yes she did talk about her gambling, look up on google
I discuss it on a couple of my money videos. Haven't yet done a dedicated video to gambling. Thanks for asking!
elder gal, please do a video on your past experience.
The nice part about being poor is that you'll know who your true friends are
How true Kurt!
I hear you on that Chantel! Thanks for your comment!
It would be interesting to hear what are your thoughts against 'the law of attraction' (your comment that you do not buy 100 about the principle).
Every dollar has a job There is no such thing as extra money
Unhealthy money beliefs can wreck lives
Absolutely! Thanks!
That's a great idea, Eileen! Thanks for sharing this!

Extra money????
I ain't never heard of that before.
Well said, LSI! Yes, it should be all about helping others in some way with our resources. Appreciate your comment and watching the video!
Matthew 6:24 24. “No one can serve two masters. He will either hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” -Jesus’ words! I choose God!

I don't think this way now! Thanks for your comments, Contessa!
You can loose medical benefits amongst other things. Especially if you get medicade through the state.
