I think that this is a suicide attempt. He keeps « a tiny piece » of someone he loves on him, to die with it. He cut the rope to hang himself. In an instant it’s all over, he’s done. But finally he’s still awake in the morning, he didn’t commit suicide. He will maybe tomorrow in another city. Eyes dilate and he’s losing his way and he cannot end his sentence.
To me this song sounds suicidal.
