2024 Ford Ranger Sales Are A JOKE - What Failure Looks Like

- 2024 Ford Ranger sales figures are out for the first 2/4 of this year and they are absolutely abysmal. I am not surprised because of the mismanagement at Ford and the way that they have gone about handling what was supposed to be the best midsize truck in the segment. They have driven it so far into the ground that I don’t believe that there’s any turning back. They should hit the reset button and take a different approach to this. The Ford Maverick is a massive success and they need to take a play out of that book and give the Ford Ranger a more efficient power chain, and improve the interior quality. Most people don’t tow thing and don’t really need 4wheel drive. They care about efficiency and having a back seat for their kids. The Toyota Tacoma sales are also way down, but Nissan Frontier and Chevy Colorado are skyrocketing. Ford Ranger has an opportunity to win here but the CEO and shareholders don’t care.
The Ranger is in no way underpowered. You need to lay down the crack pipe.
The guy obviously hasn't driven one.
Talking out of his ASS!
You are right. This guy is clueless. The 2.3 with the 10 speed is a great combination. He obviously hasn't driven one being stuck in a 20 year old world.
Prices too high. I make $100k a year and can’t afford a decent spec Ranger or any truck. Crazy these are even selling given the average and median American household incomes.
People have priorities messed up and always will. Cars, and trucks are a social status symbol. Been a diesel mechanic since 18. Depreciating assets are just that. I buy what I need and keep it up to a level that works for me. My employer lets me use whatever I want on the weekends as far as bigger trucks.
I get it! It's hard to ask a bank to loan you 80K or 90K, and they mention a house, and you have to say, no I'm gonna buy a truck! They get that GTH outta here look on their face!
Chances are you're house poor. Bought to high in your range for your home.
Ditto
Yes, car prices are high and that’s everywhere, now any automobile is expensive
You can"t have first and second quarter sales if you are not shipping the trucks out , do some research. People were waiting for 4 months after their trucks were listed as built. It's not a sale until it's delivered to the customer!
I sat in one at a local car show. Looked at all the midsize that were there that day. I have to say it was probably the one that felt the roomiest in the driver seat. Mostly because the center console was low and maybe narrower to allow my right leg to tilt out a bit. But I find the Ranger to be a little ugly, or just not as pleasing to MY eye. The prices of all of them, all vehicles, are just out of reality. Add to that today's economy, the real economy, not the one the dems are saying, things are just nuts. And the interest rates are rediculous.
The US economy is the envy of the world. What planet are you living on? I like how the only thing that is "real" is what you think. Not facts. Ask Russia and China which economy they wish they had. If you can't afford a truck then don't buy it. Or work harder. The whining is unreal. Maybe you can get your woobie and cry yourself to sleep.
The ranger is 2" - 3" wider this time. Could be the reason it felt roomier. I sat in a Colorado and it felt like a sardine can.
@drn13355 I apologize for tripping your trigger. My income goes up with the cost of living. The way the cost of living used to be figured. Not the costs now. I work full time. Picked up a part time gig. Then another part time gig. I now work close to 60 hours a week. I'm referring to what I, I said I, see as the real economy. The one that affects me. The one where my insurance has increased, taxes have increased, utilities have and still are increasing, where food has gone up substantially, everything I touch or need. Clothing, my work boots, gasoline, the list goes on. So maybe the word "economy" was not the correct word to use. I've managed to save a little, but have been dipping into that lately. A little. So for me, must just be me, things are changing, although not rough, but as conservative as I am, I can't be alone in this situation. And nobody will ever convince me that vehicle prices are not rediculous. Add to that the interest rates.
Have you ever driven one of these or do you just walk around parking lots and look in windows to make videos? I have a 2024 Ranger XLT. Previously owned a 2022 Ranger XLT. The "plain Jane" is pretty well optioned actually. Underpowered? No way, and they don't "rev high into the rev range and burn more fuel." I've watched a lot of dumb reviews and this one gets that title as well. If people want good reviews they should check out something like TFL.
yep thats almost the exact same thing i said. this dude is a clown

I own a 2020 Lariat 50k trouble free miles, it tows, and goes...FAST...
Just have had miserable luck with Ford dealership customer service in the whole east coast!
A 47k Ranger? I want some of whatever they are smoking. Not worth more than about 25k in that trim.
I paid $38k out the door with the XL 4x4, running boards and " Ultimate " tow package.
18k pounds of payload, put down the crack pipe my guy
Typo
Bed's too small, has a turbo, overpriced, and not anything worth the money they are asking. You can get a Frontier for that money
Yeah... Turbo is the issue. I'd take a 2.4 NA over a turbo. Still gets the job done.
2.3 turbo is great but the new rangers are ugly. I got mine for 29k now the new rangers are 36k which is too much money.
@@off-roadingexplained8417 used to tow 5000 all day in my 85 F150....something like 150HP. Today, most 4 cylinders make more power and with today's transmissions, torque is no problem
Correct and the frontier is a far superior truck. No comparison.
Feel like you could say the same about the new Tacoma. Difference being trlhe Tacoma has...or had a better reputation. It brutally out sold all it competitors. Remains to be seen if it can hold its place.
Personally, I want a key only ignition. The auto start key fob are expensive to program, and easier to steal . Not anything I want
It’s fairly annoying once you’ve lived without keys. I don’t mind it in my $2,500 Ranger but i wouldn’t want one in my 24 Camaro
nah keep them keys
Sign me up for a key only.
I’ve lived with push to start and keyless entry for years and I’d absolutely go back to a key for the ignition.
yea, key only. yuppie
I disagree with you. I just drove 5 trucks Friday and Sat. Canyon/Colorado..frontier..Tacoma..Ranger. I went to buy one of the Japanese trucks but was shocked at how tinny and loud they were. Frontiers mechanical steering just sucked especially around the parking lot and had the smallest interior room of the 5. The back seat was terrible. The Toyota was the biggest let down...LOUD and LOUDER at 75mph. All plastic everywhere and was the most expensive at 47k. The GMs were both great and I thought the GMC Canyon was the best looking in the segment but at 46k it was out. The Colorado I almost bought at 40500.00 but again the room inside felt shorter due to the glass being less and the seating position high. I loved the truck but it had way less content than the Ranger. I then drove the Ranger. 39800 sticker xlt with Tech and Sport appearance and tow packages, spray bedliner and power seats on both fronts plus a few other stuff that I cant recall. It drove the nicest partly due to 17's, best seats by far, largest rear seat and legroom and I wasn't sitting low on the floor and the power was way more than adequate. 0-60 in under 7 seconds is fast enough. Had 7500 tow rating and 1690 payload which was more than the others except The Colorado could tow 7600. I got a lil more than 2k off sticker which was 500 under invoice. 39,200-2000. for 37,200.00 best value. This truck was not for me but for one of my long term 25-year employees. I could have bought a base truck at 35k or even the Frontier w all the rebates and discounts at 36k but wanted to get him the best truck for the money. Just picked it up yesterday. I also will be getting a 2025 with the 2.7 when available.
The Ranger didnt hit showrooms until the 2nd quarter of 2024!... The 2.3 makes great hp and torque for its size... it's priced right into its segment...this whole video is lies and BS...clickbait.
Even if it's only been on sale since Q2, 15K is what it should've sold on that quarter alone.
It is not competitively priced to the GM twins nor the Frontier and the Tacoma is more expensive but people will still buy it because it has a long history of reliability (despite this truck not delivering).
2.3 is a piece of crap...the 2.7 V-6 is better and gets same gas mileage.
@chadhaire1711 I've driven every truck in this segment. The 2.3 makes great power. It's faster than the Tacoma and the Frontier and I'd say on par with GM's 2.7
@@DJR5280 no its not quicker and the gas mileage is no better, and sure wont last as long..I drive more trucks than you. And that 10 speed is crap.
@@chadhaire1711 Truth hurts man. Facts don't care about your feelings. There's a channel that has drag raced all the trucks mentioned and the 2.3 is the quickest
I prefer my 22 ranger. extended cab. xl 4x4. for $34k. I like the 2.3 turbo if you are drive it granny I get 28mpg
They don't wonder why they sold 15,000. They don't produce nor do they push these. They want you to buy 65 to 85,000 F-150 in my opinion and yes it's definitely overpriced 😏👎
Yet they have sold 80,000 of the smaller Mavericks already this year.
@@scupkingtrue. People are looking for affordable vehicles and the Maverick is delivering.
Ranger shares production floor with the Bronco and Ford would rather build and sell the more expensive product.
The Ranger is the quickest midsize pickup, has the most towing capacity @ 7500 lbs and also a good sized interior. The Ranger has been the most popular pickup in Australia, has been sold there and in other countries for over a decade and owners reviews on them are very positive.
Also, the keyed ignition means it's a lot harder to steal for your average lowlife gangbanger vs. the lazy Nascar-style push button ignition with an active FOB transmitter on other cars / trucks. No batteries to go bad in the "FOB" either that will prevent the truck from starting. It's old school, just the way it should be. Ever since the stupid push button ignition was introduced, car theft has skyrocketed!
People who criticize these don't know why many of these basic features are actually a good thing in the long run. The new Ranger is SIMPLE, built like a truck from the early 2000's and that's a big plus in 2024, where everything else is an iPad on wheels with 10,000 extra failure points. The only downside of the new Ranger is the price.
It's a massively overweight, bulbous, tiny bed trucklet
This isn't Australia
Things are bigger here.
Over *4 decades.
Nothing says old school like a small 4 cyl expensive urbo
@@lockandloadlikehell That's why I bought a SuperCab. Too bad almost everyone is dumping Scabs for Screws. I don't need to haul people. There were test 2024 scabs seen in the wild, but they didn't put them into production. Maybe they will bring it out later, but I doubt it.
@@lockandloadlikehell These aren't your dads old 4cyl turbos and the drivetrain is far superior.
I agree, great truck! I don't think this guy knows his a@@ from a hole in the ground.
@@cgriffith0187 he cries and bitches about a lot of small things
If you add the V6 option to the XLT, you are easily looking at well over 50K. The Maverick is just plainly an ugly truck. I have a '98 Ranger with V6 and will drive it until the wheels fall off. The old Rangers are probably the best vehicle Ford ever built.
Honest question.
Whats the appeal of push button start?
You still have a key fob to deal with so it winds up in the console while a keyed ignition gives you a spot to “hang” the key as it were.
I have a 2023 maverick XLT that has a keyed ignition and I don’t feel “under keyed” at all.
My wife’s car had push button start and I don’t see how it’s a benefit.
Maybe I’m just missing the point.
I love push to start
Definitely holding on to our ZERO option 2011 XL Ranger with manual everything including the transmission. In 112k miles it's been mechanically bulletproof.
@@roaddawg831 same here
Don’t complain about the Ranger being a world truck. The trouble is they won’t sell us the truck that pretty much the rest of the world gets. We get what Fordvdecided to give us
We need the Diesel and a 6spd manual option. That's it
Ford needs to knock 10% off MSRP and bring the SuperCab back.
I don't recall where I read the SuperCab represented about 20% of total sales, which in my experience with new product introductions is a no brainer. You won't convince all your customers to take the more expensive Crew Cab instead, specially fleet customers like Napa or Government offices that favored the Super Cab
Have u driven the 2.3T ? It has plenty of power.
its a gas guzzler pig and unreliable
I paid $35k for my 24 Ranger (4x4) a month ago. It's not a heavy duty truck, but it's been good so far. You just have to be super aggressive with negotiations at the dealership.
Please, was it an STX or XLT with zero options ?? And in what state was the purchase ??
Why the Rangers aren't selling.
Proceeds to make video in front of SOLD Ranger HAHA :D
Yep. Lol green sticker means special ordered by someone so it’s already sold.
I agree with the price point being too high, not sure if it’s necessarily underpowered. Maverick is a better value for 99% of the people who just need a truck to haul household
items a few times a year. The only way to combat these crazy prices is people need to stop paying them but I doubt it will happen
Ford was coerced into making electric trucks and lost a buttload. Now Harley has gone WOKE. They cant give the electric motorcycles away.
270hp is underpowered?
*awkward 84hp laugh
My 2001 Silverado 1500 4.8 had 270 hp
Too much computer crap to suit me. They need to go back to when they made REAL trucks, not these computerised, over priced junk mobiles.
lol, found the boomer luddite living in the 70s.
The 2012 to 2001 are the best trucks!!
Probably so!@@Zach-sg5uu
If this generation of the 2.3 is anything like the previous generation Ranger, your claims about it being underpowered are incorrect. I had a 21 and that truck had plenty of power. I even won a few stop light races with it against guys in JPM cars. I got 29 mpg in it on trip from Chicago to Columbus Ohio. The only thing wrong with it was it was too small. I ended going back to half tons. As far as sales go they really didn't get rolling on these till Q2. I know this because I was checking for them every week since January. If they are selling slow its because they were really late to the party, and the Tacoma started showing up right about the same time. And also because you can spend about 4 grand more and get an f150 with a coyote. Same as 2011.
The 2.7L is offered as an option on the build/price page. But you can only get it in the 4x4 XLT/Lariat trims, and it's a $2200 option. Crazy high price for that option. I owned a 2020 Ranger for 2 years. It didn't give me any problems, but the 2.3L just didn't have the grunt I wanted. When I saw Ford would offer the 2.7L I had visions of buying one, but then I found I could only get it with the 4x4 drivetrain. I live in the south, and don't need/never needed a 4x4.
I want a key. I sit in my truck sometimes and need the accy ignition option.
What's wrong with keys?
I don't like push button. Too many screw ups.
You can still have accessory mode with a push button
My last three vehicles were push buttons. Absolutely no issues
@@markwilliams6378 My last 20 were keys and no issues. Push button is something that didn't need to happen.
@@TheBandit7613 That’s a stupid comment. Push buttons are here to stay. Get over it, or buy old cars to drive.
I like the Ranger Raptor but dealers are marking up over $10,000 out here in California.
Unless you have a UA-cam channel with a million subs then you get it for the sticker price !!!!!
If you just put led bulbs in halogen housings you don’t get the same lighting effect of a truck that comes with led lights from the factory. The reflectors are made differently for led vs halogen.
@@Commentleaver-c6x ehhh I’ve done it and there’s minimal difference for thousands less than upper trims.
I caught this also. In my experience, this is absolutely not true. If expensive, well designed and built led housings are now not important, I’d like to see a video on that.
@@revnation_auto and everyone hates you for it.
It’s not underpowered at all. It’s the quickest out of all midsize trucks with that base engine.
These are ugly trucks, specially the maverick
You can't sell what you don't build. Look at the manufacturing numbers before you say these trucks aren't selling. I own a 2020. It's a great truck, it is plenty powerful, and the towing capacity and performance is mind blowing. One can argue that this truck is lacking some features (it is), the tech is outdated (it is) but that is missing the big picture, that this truck is not "new", it's been in production in the rest of the world since the Ranger was discontinued in the US.
Correction, it was redesigned for 2024, but the first model year for this truck in the US was 2019-2023.
I paid $43k for my 2024 ranger xlt a month ago and I really like it. Traded my 2022 gmc elevation in.
Maybe the recent recall history of Ford is scaring buyers away.
Actually, in the Ranger’s case, it’s because ford has taken ages to deliver them to dealers. Nothing recall related here.
The reason you see recalls on the Ford products is because Ford recalls themselves, rather than safety administrations or whoever forces recalls on vehicles. Toyota, GM, stellantus, all avoid and try to coverup needed recalls to avoid spending money to fix something that isn't working properly. Yep people do not know that Ford recalls themselves.
Those sales numbers are low, I agree.
The advanced tow package is $895, standard tow package is $495
Looks like the “$2000 tow package” you refer to is the Advanced Tow+Technology package which I agree is too much; but the $895 advanced tow package has a lot of cool features (brake controller, backup assist)
Have you driven one?? I have a 21 with the 2.3 and it has plenty of power. 1st week i got it i put 1800ish pounds of manure in the bed and it didn't even notice it was there, I can pass on interstates with plenty of power left over, it will do over a 100 easy. Also you can get a tune on it from ford that bumps it up to like 305hp and 340 ft tq... did you do any research? Before this gen of new trucks (taco, colorado) the 5th gen ranger had the highest towing rating... what are you talking about under powered my guy?? sounds more like you mad you dont have one
Everybody knows Nissan Sucks. Everybody!! We know..
You would not think so, but if you place that camera flat on the glass, INTERIOR IS SO CLEAR! Unbelievable
I own the 2024, I have plenty of power, it’s pretty quick actually. Hauled 5000 lbs and pulls like a dream. I have an xlt and paid 39k
The 2.3l ecoboost is NOT underpowered in the Ranger. Ford is actually looking pretty good right now. They're the innovators everyone else is copying. Toyota has failed at putting out a competitor to both the F150 (Tundras with bad engines and rear differentials), and the Ranger (New Tacomas with bad transmissions).
Best selling car in Australia. Love mine.
Same here in the Philippines. I like my Ranger wildtrak 4x2 2024. It's a 2L turbo diesel, better and cheaper than Toyota Hilux, Nissan Navara, Mitsubishi Triton or Isuzu Dmax.
This guy is clueless
No 4A, no rear seat vents, no ventilated seats and priced the same as GM twins that has those extra features, and a more powerful engine to boot!
I think a lot of people are waiting on that v6 option like you were talking about. Hopefully we can start seeing some reviews on those soon. That is what I would want if I could afford one.
I will tell you, Ford is the only one I wouldnt mind paying extra for paint because I have always found that Fords paint is quite good.
They do have solid paint but $995 up charge, come on… also $3,700 for 4x4. That’s $4,700 for decent paint and 4 wheel drive. They already start $3k higher than the Colorado & Frontier. The math doesn’t work for what you’re getting.
@@gchrisb1 Both Rangers shown had paint color charged on the stickers. but yeah, just buy a white one or other solid color and avoid the upcharge.
For 47k I would just get the F150 with the V6.
The new Ranger is only slightly smaller than my 96 Ford F-150. I really like the looks; a Ranger Raptor might be in my future if I could buy it at the right price.
The STX in shadow black is what I ordered. Pretty pleased overall. 4x4, spray in bed liner and the basic tow package. Right at $37k. After market hard bed cover and some weather tech floor lines to make it even easier to clean. It’s a sub 40k truck. Love the fuel mileage, I drive pretty conservatively averaging over 26mph with just over 9000 miles on it so far. While I would like the 2.7 V6 I’ll be happy with the 2.3 and not stress it too much by expecting more that I should. Sure the Mavericks price appeal is attractive’ however I would miss the higher stature of the Ranger.
My sole complaint’ is self inflicted. I should have got the $90 keyless entry for the drivers door. Tinted windows would also be nice. That’ll be for the next truck (chuckle and kick the tire).
Honestly I would like a key ignition. A lot more reliable than key fobs. They have a chip inside the key which I think is better anyways . We know that key fob signals can be read and people can steal your car.
There are still no rangers at my local dealership, so no, they are not all shipped out yet. Some states still haven't got any.
Most of the shortcomings of the Ranger can be traced back to CAFE standards. Couple that with the success of the Maverick, the Santa Cruz, and the Ridgeline, you’ll start seeing more unibody trucks and a disappearance of body on frame trucks.
I occasionally tow a loaded 4K trailer locally, so I am looking at the Ridgeline. It's roomier in both front and back, it's a comfortable daily driver, the interior is much nicer than the Ranger, it has that compartment below the bed, and it has NO TURBO, meaning no turbo issues. The Ranger's 2.3 L would be high strung to tow with, the engine would be constantly revving, and the MPG would be negated. No thank you.
Bull___!!!
@@jnorb8633 Do you see another way they cam get production costs down, increase gas mileage, AND make trucks more affordable…under current CAFE standards? Do you remember in the late 90s when people started buying SUVs more & more? For a while they made body on frame, traditional SUVs, but then, somebody made a Crossover. Don’t know who the first was, maybe it was the Honda Pilot, maybe Jeep Cherokee, but unibody crept into the SUV market and it’s starting to creep into the truck market. Make friends with it, or pick out the old truck you’ll drive until you die.
I havent seen but one or two santa cruz's. I dont think anyone is buying those, they are ugly and small, might as well go ridgeline if you want an suv with a bed
Ford reliability is the big problem. Consumers know.
Price is competitive to the other Mid-Size Trucks that are currently available. Towing is 7500 lbs. The 2.3 does a great job. HP is right in line with what is available for the Mid-Size trucks. You also slammed the Maverick and every other truck review you've done. This dude is just going for clicks on UA-cam and really doesn't know what the hell he's talking about! His site/channel should be removed. I wouldn't ask you for advice on anything auto related. It's really sad UA-cam permits this kind of trash!!
👍👍
No, you pretty much nailed it--particularly in price. In Arizona, it's possible to find F150s that cost less than a new Ranger!
My impression is thar Ford, starting around 2008-9, made a conscious decision to abandon the midsized truck segment to Toyota and go all in on full-size pickups. The only reason they brought back the Ranger was to have some platform for the international market, and to placate die-hard Ranger fans. Their response has been passive-aggressive pricing and powertrain options. Thanks, I'll keep my 2007 FX4 with the V6.
I don’t understand why Ford felt the need to change the global Ranger for the US market.
The US variant looses ~600# in payload.
The Ranger has best in class payload and width between the wheel wells (48”).
I bought a 2024 4runner TRD Off Road Premium. Has the upgraded Toyota intake and exhaust. Will run for 250K miles at least. 6 cylinder, I get about 18 mpg in combined city/hwy. No fancy anything. Everything you need for family and camping. Nothing you don't. Very high resale value. Hard to find. Yes everything is outdated in a good way. Basically the same vehicle since 2010. All the bugs have been worked out. Made in Japan in the same factory as the Lexus GX460. No frills, reliable, quality.
I would buy a low mileage one before new off the lot anyway.
@@martinnorbeck4657 funny thing is: I bought mine from Tuscaloosa Toyota in Alabama. I got a better deal with the new one than what they were asking for similar 4runners used. Literally, there was almost no difference. My Toyota dealer at the time in Jackson, MS had NO 4runner TRD models new and only one TRD Pro that was used and they wanted more than the original sticker for it even though it had 15000 miles. So, new was the way to go when I bought mine. Even private sellers ask crazy prices for used Toyota 4runners and Tacomas.
The 24 will be the last year they’ll be known as reliable.
Way too much money for a car that old
I just bought the Ranger raptor and holy cow what a truck
Same mine is being built in a couple weeks
The 2.3 is definitely not underpowered. Also, I have gotten 26mpg on the highway with my 2024 4x4.
it's the wrong vehicle. If it had a longer bed (and/or 2 door) and a naturally aspirated 3-4L engine, or a hybrid/phev (or even electric) people would buy it.
I am holding out until repo-Geddon is running full bore. The Four banger with a turbo will wear out quick. So many Options for buyers now that a new one off the lot is not even worth considering. They can give that 47,000 dollar one away before I buy one.
It’s happening already.
I'd go with the Frontier
The Ranger was not even available in the first 3 months for sell in 2024 because it was delayed by a strike at the plant. The V6 models will be built in August late in the year. The Tacomo is even more pricey than the Ranger. It is by no means underpowered it is faster than all the other midsize trucks watch TFL fastlane trucks they did a drag test on all of them. If you had driven one you would know its not underpower. Ranger tows 7500 pounds compare to the Maverick's 4000 pounds thats allot of difference. Also Motor Trend choose it as the Best Midsize truck over the Chevy and Toyota midsize trucks too.
They were delayed mainly because of the many quality issues. Thousands of them were sitting in storage lots and couldn't be shipped to dealers because of this.
You couldnt be more wrong about fuel mileage and them being inefficient. I have xlt with fx4 package and towing so forth. It consistently gets 23 mpg highway and tows better by far than others in its class. Its been proven on TFL as well.
Perhaps the worse review I’ve seen from a UA-camr. But that’s to be expected from one with so little information on the subject of his video. I have the Ranger and the engine at the low end is more powerful than most of its competitors. The complaint he makes is a “non” complaint, it’s a feature of turbo engines that when you hit the accelerator hard, you burn twice as much gas, but you get the power you need. I get 25 and change in the city, 27 on the highway. The 6 cylinder 2.7 is now out and it has spec’s well in excess of the 4 cylinder turbo-like 400 ft lbs torque. It’s being sold only in the mid level and high level trim. Even with that engine, I’ve not seen a list price over $45K, and there’s not much left to add to the vehicle at that point. More extra’s like tonneau covers might get you to $50k. Simply go to Ford and build your own.
You don’t like the price, go to Toyota and see what they’re getting. Yes, the damn things are too high a price for most people. Got it-you don’t like that you can’t afford it. Want a smaller Ford truck, look at the maverick. In any event, that’s the market after giving the assembly workers a 25% raise and a cumulative inflation rate since Biden of at least 20%-and I’m not knocking the workers, they need to eat too.
Right on!
Back when I was a kid the Chevy S-10 and the 'Silverado' aka the GMT-400 Series C-10/K-10 half tons had a few thousand difference in prices. Enough to justify the smaller truck. But by the time I was old enough to drive and start dreaming about Trucks, the gap had closed significantly. Early 2000's the cost difference between the larger truck and compact truck wasn't worth the loss of capability, and the smaller trucks weren't 'THAT' much more fuel efficient. Seems like history is repeating itself all over again.
100% correct
I love my new Ranger, the 2.3 is surprisingly quick with loads of torque. I went to this after my F250 with a V10. Don’t get me wrong I loved the F250 but it’s big and not too many places can you park a Beast like that. So for me the Ranger became a better fit. I look forward to driving it every chance I get.
I’m happy you’re loving the truck. I also love my old Ranger.
Ford made the Maverick, with inflation people are looking for more affordable options
Actually, people are looking for trucks on the lot.
I agree with all his points on price. I do not agree with his thoughts on power train. I have a 2019 with same 2.3 and 10 speed. It is a fantastic combo, putting torque down low and the 10 speed, once "dialed in" lets the motor stay in a good rpm range. I commute 60 miles a day, have towed my trailer, used it for rough forest service roads...all it was designed to do and it excels. Still, these are over priced, but so are all cars now. I got mine with major discounts which dealers just don't offer anymore. Do I wish we could get a small truck like previous Ranger, or a true SUV like the old Jeep Cherokee..Yes!!!
The Maverick is true replacement for the 2011 and older Ranger. The "new" Ranger is simply too expensive for what you get.
HELL YEA,I AGREE WITH YOU SON. I HAVE A 2022 FORD RANGER LARIAT FX4. I HAD TO PAY FOR THE BEDLINER $300.00 but, the LARIAT CAME WITH LEATHER SEATS, HEATED SEATS AND LED HEADLIGHTS. I THINK THE COLORADO is the BANG FOR THE BUCK BECAUSE THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE VERSIONS ARE FULL TIME ACROSS THE BOARD and COLORADO START OUT LESS (IN COST.) THE RANGER is a GOOD TRUCK BUT TOO MUCH MONEY (DEPENDING HOW IT'S SPECED OUT.)
47k ? Ford stop being a clown I’ll take a ridgeline same price more features
This guy doesn't have a clue, smh
My 24 Canyon has the 2.7 high output with 310 horsepower and 430 torque. Leather heated cooled seats moon roof only option it doesn’t have is the Bose system. MSRP $52k got it for $50k. It is just a nicer truck than the competition for the price.
Too bad you have too turn on the headlights through the infotainment system...dumb design... Roofs getting dented from car washes... Battery draining issues
@@lerrin well in my Jeeps I had headlights set to auto and never needed to change that and the button in the GMC is weird but I’ve never needed to touch it. I have the moon roof so the denting roof is not for my model and the battery issue stemmed from a software update which did not affect my truck. It’s fine you don’t like it frankly I don’t like the trucks of today I want the simplicity from 20 years ago but heavy technology vehicles are what’s available.
My truck has been flawless and comfortable with better than expected gas mileage. I’m not a fanboy of any brand so if I didn’t like or trust it I would say so.
I'm glad you're happy with your Canyon...I was looking at the Colorado for awhile but the headlight switch in the infotainment was a turn off... This guy bashing the new Ranger with inaccurate information...enjoy your new trk
Get this: when selected, the 165 CID V-6 EcoBoost means you will have a 4x4 added. I want a 4x2 with a V-6 EcoBoost for lane changing while towing Interstate Highways. I reside in Augusta, Georgia, where it rarely snows. I don't drive on unimproved roads, yet Ford is forcibly adding a 4x4 drive train. Here's the kicker, Chevrolet's website selected from their commercial vehicle section. I can build a Silverado 1500 SCab, 2wd, LWB, 323 CID V-8, and a tow package, including "ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL." This is a WT entry 1/2 ton truck, $42,985.00 US before taxes. Let that sink in for a moment. Additionally, the maximum towing capability is 11,200 pounds.
Not true on the key. I can start the truck with my phone and as long as the fob is in the truck it will drive. The Tacoma is about $5k more and honestly ugly to me. You want to spend 15 minutes cleaning that dumb logo on the passenger dash?
my local dealer is all about the F-150. The couple of Rangers they have they have are loaded and have an ADM sticker on top of a $51,000 MSRP
That’s stupid and gross
My 2003 Ranger was built at Twin Cities Assembly....decided to rebuild it this year instead of buying new...the value just isn't there in new vehicles....I want a simple, base truck.
Same here. I’ve replaced most of the suspension and a couple of other things but it’s a great truck snd worth putting in a little work to keep.
Sadly the only way to get a v6 is the tremor option. Which sucks! You should be able to configure a truck the way you want it! Especially when doing a custom order.
I go the XLT -Sport, with a 2.0 turbo Diesel (from South Africa) and i love that thing.
The price point is terrible, so is the twin turbo crap & the bed is too small then there should be other cab options. But it’s still better than the junky & outdated Tacoma!
Saying 2.3l that makes 310 ft lbs of torque and 270 (underrated actually makes roughly 300 hp) is underpowered showed you don’t know what you’re talking about and you’ve clearly never driven the truck. My 2022 out hauls and out runs my 2020 1/2 ton dodge all day. And has better towing ability than some f150s. With a little tuning I’ve outran several v8 cars too.
You’ve hit on the salient point. The guy posting this video knows nothing about the Ranger and perhaps modern trucks in general. Not a fan boy, but do own a Ranger and have looked around for a while about upgrading it. The price is competitive with the market at that level. Yes, the damn vehicle is expensive, but Ford is not the only one.
I have a 2020 and wouldn't call the 2.3 underpowered, especially compared to the competition. It gets the job done and I see 25 mpg. I think the main reason the new ones aren't selling is the price and high interest rates. Sometimes I wonder if some at Ford don't really care about Ranger sales as the F150 is the crown jewel and they want it to stay the best seller. Chevy might be in the same boat and probably won't offer many incentives. I have driven the Colorado and like it. Same for the Frontier, but the interior needs to be updated and hear it will for 2025.
They aren't selling cause they don't build them. You can't sell what you don't build.
No split folding rear seat. Overpriced.
I too like the pre 2011 version but that’s the same size as the Maverick. Ranger is almost mid sized so it’s not directly comparable. Why won’t they make it in a single cab with a decent length bed? Ranger sales are down because the Maverick cannibalized the market. Also they are expensive because people go for all that electronic nonsense. Obsessing over a keyed ignition is what is wrong with buyers today. What’s so bad about having to turn a key or glance out the window before you change lanes?
Not sure why Ford even bothers with the Ranger, when Maverick is clearly the vehicle more buyers want.
If you want a 4x4 that isn't as huge as an F-150 then Ranger is perfect. I have a supercab and IMO it's the perfect size, with a decent sized bed.
Your legacy Ranger and this Ranger are family in name only. This new Ranger is extremely capable truck and my no means underpowered.
you said if youre just driving around town like the vast majority of truck buyers youre better off buying a maverick. i would have liked to seen the sticker on the maverick since thats what im looking for -- a base maverick. i know your video is about the ranger but since you mentioned the maverick is the better buy regarding fuel mileage you should have shown its sticker too.
I like the ranger personally.
I feel their price is plenty competitive with the direct competitors. I'm not sure what you're comparing it to.... but the Colorado, Tacoma, Canyon, and Frontier all seem to be similarly priced for similar options. I guess the Frontier being the best value because it automatically comes with a V6, non turbo. Frontier and Tacoma also offers different cab configurations... which I think Ford(and Chevy) really missed the boat on. That's a huge value for trucks buyers. Maybe they don't need regular cab for mid-size segment, but at least give that extended/access cab option.(it already exists in other countires so the R&D costs don't factor.)
The 2.7 has been impossible to find at dealers, but I was able to find one locally.... but it's priced almost 10,000 above a similarly priced 2.3L so I didn't bite. End of the model year is here, and I'm hoping they have some deep sales soon when all the 2025 models are revealed.
Imagine if they gave us 3.5 twin turbo V6 with a 5 speed stick shift!!!
All of today’s pick up trucks sold in this country are grossly overpriced. I’m just going to drive my old Tacoma until the wheels fall off.
These trucks are all over the world Quite a few roaming around my neck of the woods
From 2010 to 2020, F-150 prices increased 30%. From 2010 to 2024, F-150 prices rose 80%!!!!! Yet, Toyota's Camry has only increased by only 20% from 2010 to 2024 and overall auto prices have only increased by 30% since 2010. Crazy stuff.
i Used to sell fords around the 2004 time frame, back then you could get a base F150 for under 20k, and with all of the rebates and incentives, you could get one for around 16k.
@@nn-dj2nu Thanks for that!! And, looking at my post, I screw up by typing 2010 instead of 2020!!!
@@danlowe8684 yeah get this, I would buy the base model that had sat on the dealer lot for a year, and back then they would heavily discount a year old new car to move inventory. So I was able to buy my 2003 mustang for 16k and my 2004 focus for 9k, those were the good ole days 🙂
Ok cool, now do one for each truck manufacturer , it won’t be much different
how many Tacs have been sold? Whats their price??
Imagine how many they would sell at a lower price point without all the electronic crap. I have two cars, out of the three I own, that have roll up windows!
Tacoma's were always working bargains , then they went ham on 4wd lifted off road tonka toys... 45-65k. Not that long ago you could get a crew cab Tacoma 4 cylinder for about $25k.
That's insane for $47,000. You can purchase an F150 with V6, and more options.
I’m getting almost the same MPG with my Silverado. Come on Ford. Make it make sense to downgrade when the prices are way to high
Guys are getting like 26 to 28 mpgs with this truck I've been hearing. Also downgrading to this truck makes more sense to people that live in large cities, so that makes sense to them to be able to get through traffic easier and to park easier. And alot of people only need to do so much towing and hauling.
The main reason is price, low reliability due to turbo, & low low low city mpg. Need to ditch that high rev turbo power for reliability and low end torque.
Actually it’s because ford has taken forever to deliver new rangers to dealers. It’s harder to buy one when not many are available yet.
@@brianmola711 that and the horrid ride quality/suspension, disgusting mpg aside from all highway, & pathetic pricing. They might be able to fix some of that mpg problem with a recalibration of the TPS sensitivity. Seems like they set it up to feel peppy and powerful by giving a lot of throttle with a light foot. I think the truck has potential but they messed up some really important aspects of it. The suspension rides like a 3/4 ton but is still so soft it can't handle a lot of rough roads. The one I'm driving now has between 12,000 & 13,000 miles and has holes completely through the rear suspension bump stops. Also, if you go up a real steep hill you have to press the tow haul button at the bottom so it'll down shift enough to have power to go up it as the throttle can't hardly get it to down shift without it. This gives it the perception it has no power even though it really has plenty, if not more than needed, power. Why is Ford so hard up with this ecoboost crap? They need to concentrate on reliability a little more to be honest. They need to realize that not every person in the world wants to sacrifice reliability and maintenance cost for a little power. Turbos have always been known weak points for cars & are expensive to fix. I seriously doubt any of these new rangers can keep up with the reliability of the old 4.0. I realize the mpg increase but we can't deny that would come with direct injection of a naturally aspired engine as well. My Camry with it's little 2.5L 4 cyl direct injection NA engine is getting over 40 mpg average & 200 hp or so which is plenty of power for a small pickup. Bet it would get just as good mpg as the ranger engine in a small truck, be more reliable, & just as fuel efficient I'm sure if not better.
You really are clueless as to what a turbo does for an engine, your “high rev turbo power” comment is priceless
