It’s the ONLY Midsize truck with Amber Turn Lamps in the tail light assembly….this very important to me and I pointed this out to the Ford salesman the other day who was unaware of it and thanked me for the education …
I kind of wished the baby diesels would have taken off. Especially if Ford offered the diesels from the Aussies version. The cost upfront for the diesel options are always the deal breaker for me tho, I could justify a couple grand but it's usually $5-7k.
I'd definitely get the XLT FX4 and the 2.7L if the payload is still decent. You get a lot of bells and whistles. If you don't need the extra towing really.
Better looking by far than the overstyling of the new Tacoma not to mention the ridiculous chin spoiler Toyota threw on there probably because they sacrificed aerodynamics for the boy racer looks.
You are so right regarding the Tacoma over styling, it looks cartoonish! Not to mention the tail gate and rear quarter panel don’t lien up right. Looks like they are from to different vehicles.
It's a clean looking truck, not trying to be too flashy. I prefer the look of the GM trucks, but I think this one here is probably the best value in the class.
I like the front end design a lot more than the outgoing one. I also like that the bigger motor is going to be available. I just wish they offered a true 6-foot bed in the four-door cab configuration. The Ranger has been in an odd place ever since they moved it up to midsized. It's not quite fuel efficient enough to buy it over an F150, but it’s not quite small enough to be considered a compact truck for a city/suburban family. Then again, I live in Texas, where the stock F150 is small in comparison to a lot of trucks around here. Especially when looking at a 10 or 15-year-old F150.
Well of course your truck's going to look new underneath. It's a Chevy they spend most of their time in the garage broke down so it's barely going to see any of the elements.
G'day, our model levels are: XLS (base) XLT (Mid) Sport (Mid +) Wildtrack (Premium) Platinum (Top) Ranger Raptor which is kind of it's own thing. In Australia the Ranger has rear vents at the back of the center console in all models.
@@DusdaddyYes they are. Also the seats in this Lariat look like the ones in our sport model. If you search Ford Australia you will be able to see our variants. I think you'll be surprised what you see. It's like we can't get the RAM 2500 3500 models except the 6 seat version which sucks, but Hay I can't afford $130,000 Aus any way. Our dollar is 65 cents to the US dollar at the moment.
Loved the review - I have a Ford Ranger Wildtrack spec (second top option) here in Australia. Our 4x4 are offered as diesel only so interested to see your engine options. We have a 3L v6 diesel which is 184kw (246hp) and 600nm (442 foot pound) or a bi-turbo 2L 4 cylinder with 154 kw (206hp) 500nm (368 foot pound) both with the 10spd autos. We typically put more emphasis on payload here in Australia. The Ranger has typically has 1000kg payload (2200lb) and tow rating of 3500kg (7700lb). Interestingly mine has HVAC vents for the second row of passengers. The Ute (Truck) costs around $AUD80,000. Ford have released the F150 here with the 3.5 eco boost v6 petrol engine only in 2 trim levels and SWB or LWB options. - pricing is $AUD120-$150,000 so the Ranger is a very popular option here.
Styling is obviously a personal preference but for me, this is the best looking midsize. That one piece rear set is aa major fail in an otherwise well thought out package. A bed closer to 6 than 5 feet would be nice too.
Believe it or not, it isn't turbo lag. That noticeable lag is a side effect of having throttle by wire, and an intrusive traction control system. You can always tell as with turbo lag, the engine still revs, but you haven't built enough manifold pressure, so the torque impulse is rather jarring once it does build boost. In a lot of these modern turbocharged engines, this large torque impulse at very low rpm can cause excessive driveline damage over time, so manufacturers baby it as much as possible. You can observe that even if you give it full pedal input, your tach will barely change, and there is a full-on delay in response to even start accelerating. In ten speed Fords, you can get rid of most of this induced throttle lag by using the sport mode. Also, tow haul mode just makes the transmission up-shift through every gear sequentially, downshift early and more aggressively on declines, and hold gears longer after a decline. It isn't the fastest throttle and shift profile available, nor is it necessary on mostly flat terrain.
Lots of vehicles were parked for long periods after assembly waiting on unavailable parts. Suspect what happened here, they were stored somewhere pretty wet
In some instances, parts are designed to have a sacrificial layer that oxidizes first, while providing protection a mm deep or so. I think it’s called galvanization, zinc on the outside of steel/iron, where zinc is more electronegative. That’s what I’d think is happening here, considering the truck is new and all other areas looks fine.
This is what we need, normal sized trucks with decent payload and towing. You go anywhere outside of United States, Canada and Mexico (to a lesser extent, as they have more options); you'll find plenty of pickups that we don't get in the North American market. You look at the payload for the D'Max, Hilux, Mighty Max, Amarok, etc.. they average about what our 3/4 ton trucks have for payload. You can get these with high efficiency diesel engines and in regular and extended cab versions. I'd take a regular cab Ranger with a small diesel for a third of the price of a regular cab F250.
My 2020 Ranger has HVAC vents under the front seats for the back; perhaps the new generation does too? And my 2020 has no rusted driveshaft or half-shafts, even after almost 50k.
Only miss for me is how this midsize lacks the aluminum that revolutionized the F150 and SuperDuty in terms of weight and longevity in the rust belt. Given how assembly for North America is being done on continent, I think they could even make the alu paneling a North American option first and maybe share it out as a Raptor option worldwide. I get that pricing and profits are sticky issue, but this feels like a miss. Ford shows off their "it already has patina" look on the untreated driveline, a miss across all their pickups, something that should be Rustoleomed away, then a Krown or Woolwax. I think the one reason this will be a different beast worldwide is that they have 3 diesel options, though it doesn't seem like they get anything different from transmission or driveline. As a Canadian, not getting other cab options is weird. Not having 60/40 rear seat is weird. Like many, I will look forward to the 2.7 reviews.
Thanks for pointing out the rust. I remember the Frontier had a ton of rust all over the underside. Have you fellas heard any complaints or problems associated with those due to that? I’m in MI so rust is a problem

I was at first a little put off by the styling, but it's growing on me slowly. The prices of most of these are the real factor to shy away. Trucks have just become too heavily equipped and likewise, too expensive. I almost wish I'd have ordered the FX2 I considered back in '23 when I ordered my Maverick. It was still too expensive, but towing capacity was good.
The 2.7L, at least according to the specs on the US Ford site, does not increase the towing capacity over the 2.3L across the trims. It is the same towing max for both engines. The 2.7L does, however, decrease the max payload.

It’s the ONLY Midsize truck with Amber Turn Lamps in the tail light assembly….this very important to me and I pointed this out to the Ford salesman the other day who was unaware of it and thanked me for the education …
I just bought a 2023 ranger Lariat and I love it
Got a 2020 looking forward to upgrading to the new version soon !
I kind of wished the baby diesels would have taken off. Especially if Ford offered the diesels from the Aussies version. The cost upfront for the diesel options are always the deal breaker for me tho, I could justify a couple grand but it's usually $5-7k.
Fantastic job, really well presented!
Thank you kindly!
Nice video. Much appreciated.
Would like to see you guys do a comparison of the Lariat vs the Canyon At4
I'm still loving the video of the '19 FX4 on the powerline, hope you try this FX4 on it too.
I've been looking at a ranger. The one thing that blew me away was the cab while driving was super quiet.
My 2016 Colorado came with a single piece aluminum drive shaft and it still looks new. The whole underside of my Chevy still looks great.
Well of course your truck's going to look new underneath. It's a Chevy they spend most of their time in the garage broke down so it's barely going to see any of the elements.
Nice review/commentary! Thank you.
Quite the yute mate. My one has over 60ks and she's powerful as can be. Liters per 100 ain't bad either!
4 ft between the wheel wells is a game changer. Try carrying a 4x8 ft sheet of plywood on my 2021 Ranger and you'll see what a pain it is.
The 08 Toyota Tundra I bought new had quite a bit of rust under it as well....from sitting for months.
Make the Ultra-Base version from the UK. Single Cab with a stick. I will buy one.
G'day, our model levels are: XLS (base) XLT (Mid) Sport (Mid +) Wildtrack (Premium) Platinum (Top) Ranger Raptor which is kind of it's own thing. In Australia the Ranger has rear vents at the back of the center console in all models.
Great input. Wonder why that didn't cross over to here? Is the backseat still one piece?
Like I’ve said when taking measurements for ride height take from bottom of rim to guard. It then removes any tyre issues .
Rumor is they may introduce a single & extend cab version too. I’d like a super cab chassis for contractors to put utility service bodies on it.
That underbody rust is concerning. Has Ford addressed this issue? Great video! Very informative.
He didn't say under body it was the driveshaft and axel only.
Ford quality shines through at the beginning 😂😂
This is what we need, normal sized trucks with decent payload and towing. You go anywhere outside of United States, Canada and Mexico (to a lesser extent, as they have more options); you'll find plenty of pickups that we don't get in the North American market. You look at the payload for the D'Max, Hilux, Mighty Max, Amarok, etc.. they average about what our 3/4 ton trucks have for payload. You can get these with high efficiency diesel engines and in regular and extended cab versions. I'd take a regular cab Ranger with a small diesel for a third of the price of a regular cab F250.
@@dennisdoherty1133 can’t really compare payload ratings across countries or continents. Different use cases and subsequently regulatory requirements.
I really wish they would offer 4auto on all models, not just the Raptor.
7:34 Walked away from my computer and checked. NONE of rust in that scene 7:34 is on my U.S. 2023 Ranger, after 15 months.
I have the 2020 Ranger and same thing.
No rust under the truck.
Please measure both front and rear wheelwells to see if any front end rise. Scale weights would really be good to see.
Factory White Letter Tires! 🤯
It has some aluminum, but yeah it would be nice.
Would like to see a 2.7 ranger for towing and off roading with the fox package
Thanks for pointing out the rust. I remember the Frontier had a ton of rust all over the underside. Have you fellas heard any complaints or problems associated with those due to that? I’m in MI so rust is a problem
Where is the front cabin information? Did I miss it or does it simply not exist? Plenty of video of a trailer going down the road but what about the interior? You explain things very well so id love to hear your thoughts on drivers position and switch gear!
That is a beautiful truck!
Did they fix the transmission? My 2022 Ranger Lariat transmission is the reason I won't buy another Ford.
@@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 what was wrong with it?
@@ALMX5DP It shifts terrible when cold and sometimes it bangs hard when downshifting. Glad I bought the extended warranty. Only has 5k miles. My 4th new Ford truck and never had one this eradic. Hopefully it will blow and be fixed one day.
Gonna suck walking because every auto maker on earth has had engines and transmissions fail while new. Just facts
If Ford built a Ranger with a 6.5 foot box it would be a big seller.
@@24cupsandcounting not so sure, especially with F-150 being available with that capability.
Rangers are nice
Looks alot better than the old one. Too bad they are way to much money now
The Ranger is the best mid size truck on the market, period! The 2024 is even better.
I would want a naturally aspirated engine. A supercab with a 6ft bed , a column shifter and a bench or 60 40 front seat.
It'll be very interesting how the 2.7 handles and compares in efficiency.
The 2.7L does, however, decrease the max payload.
which means what exactly...."decrease th emax payload"
Do other countries get a longer bed option and mirrors? I can't see this hauling livestock in those countries with a tiny bed.
Also I believe a 4x8 sheet of plywood will lie flat between the wheel wells
Does it have more interior room than previous models? My parents have the past model and it’s cramped.
Great review as usual and I gotta say I like the look of it... Not a ford guy but not bad ford... not bad..
They are selling here in MN pretty well, i.e very high demand, where some F150 XL’s are discounted for less than a Ranger at some dealers.
In my opinion midsized trucks make better daily drivers.
Will be ordering a '25 when available.
Lariat with the 2.7? Take my money!
I was interested in the 2.7L version, but I couldn't find any near my city.
Great review.
Hey guys, thanks for the great review, as usual!
Do you have any idea when the 2.7 litre engine will be available in Canada?
Also, please let us know if you hear any details on the Tremor version. It recently has been announced for the Australian market. It would make a great alternative to the Raptor.
Thanks again!
At $51 thousand should you bump up to the F150?
@@jnmaher1967 depends if you need an F-150 or not.
This is a Lariat trim. A Lariat F-150 starts at about $70,000. A $19,000 jump is pretty significant.
Really well equipped XLT FX4 is $45,000 and they're starting to discount them. Also, I didn't want an F150.
Should have a cross county chalenge. Have every pickup truck loaded to it's max load capacity pulling a max tow weight trailer. How many would breakdown? How many would not finish?
@@richadent968 none if we’re talking about new low mileage examples.
40 year mech great review down to earth loved it. will have to see if these crap motors can go 300K like my 99 Mazda B4000 4x4 with 4.0 OHV 55re 5 speed auto which is original but valve body was updated by me with all then current aftermarket updates about 130K. regularly tow 19 ft 5,000 pound boat and trailer in the hills of central NH has 8.8 rear end. What rear end does this have? mine has tow package which got the big rear end and better gears. still has original inner and outer tie rod ends, starter and AC compressor.
It still has orig fuel pump in the tank and ya I know, but afraid to change it with current crap of parts that half don't work out of the box.
What ramps are those?
