      Indeed! Instead of the "A" Train, it looks like Duke and the boys took a ride on the Yellow Submarine!

    When I was a teenager in the 60s I used to play some Beatles songs for my parents and even they liked them. Just goes to show you that the Beatles had enduring songwriting skills that transcended generations. What an honor to have your songs reinterpreted by the great Duke Ellington!

    When I was a young we lived on the farm. We didn't have alot, but one thing my dad always made sure we had, was a record player. On a Sunday, my 2 older brothers and my older sister,, and my parents would be all be together listening to records on the good old record player. I can remember listening to some of these Beatles songs. So many great memories of that Wonderful Family Tradition when my oldest brother, and my dad were still alive. I would love to be running around that living room, B-bobbin' to the music, with my brothers, my sister, while my parents laughed with delight!
    So many Good songs, with so many Beauiful memories tied to them all!
    If someone evers builds a time machine... I hope I get a "Ticket To Ride." I would just Love to hear my father laugh, while I dance with my brother again. ~💚🐞💙~
    Happy Sunday... thank you for sharing! 💖

    An epic inter-generational crossover if there ever was one! I am glad Duke seemingly appreciated the Beatles for the musical geniuses that they were. As the adage goes, it takes one to know one!

      I was thinking the same thing but it was the late 60's. I remember that I had some ruffles on a few of my shirts within the next years. I don't think we will see men dress so conspicuously anytime soon. It was a very interesting period.

    I adore the Duke! Even in this elevator kinda arrangement. It most probably wasn't his own arrangement, as he played many arrangements by others for collaboration records. The album with Frank Sinatra also wasn't arranged by him. I understand the sentiment that this is boring, but you gotta love the Duke, he still gives his all. The band probably also did it for visibility and probably had to make money, as big band music was getting out of fashion.
    And for the lace cuffs, truly late 60s. Very kitschy. Even if it isn't their greatest, they did their absolute best, and it was performed live, which is not something you can say of many on the top these days.

    I researched that this was a special “Beatles Book” episode and hence they had a lot of Beatles musical numbers which perhaps included repeating their previous performances of 1964-65. They did everything Beatles that they could but have the Beatles on themselves.
    When this aired there was still a few weeks before it would be announced that the beatles were breaking up.
    Why Ed didn’t have the Beatles back after 1965 is good question? You’d think that it wouldn’t of been difficult to make a deal to get them on the show and they were long over due for an appearance as well.
    Plus from late 1968 and onward the ratings for the show were not good so you’d think would Ed try to get them on the show for another big ratings winner that perhaps might of saved the show by propping up the show’s regular ratings again.

    • @eargasm1072
      @eargasm1072 2 роки тому +3

      They stopped making any live or TV appearances by '66 brother (aside from John & Paul making one appearance on the Tonight Show in '68?) ...they would send Ed their latest video clips to air, including "Paperback Writer" & "Hello Goodbye" etc

    • @niceguy5015
      @niceguy5015 2 роки тому +2

      Aha! That explains it! Thank you for that but of information.
      I think it’s possible that if Ed had contacted them and told them the dire situation that they might of been nice enough to make an appearance and sing a few songs to help out. But Ed didn’t think of that so we’ll never know.
      The Beatles did an appearance on a British show where they did a brief orchestration and then sang Hey Jude while being surrounded by the audience which included a young at heart old man being goofy. It’s on UA-cam so they were willing to do that for some reason but now I know why they stopped doing shows in general.
      I thought they only had stopped doing concerts. Thanks again

      Ellington was far from a middle of the road artist . If you compare him with the Beatles he was a far greater innovator .
